POPULARITY
Helping people is sometimes difficult - especially when they are ungrateful, or worse, return evil for good. Join us as we look at a couple of episodes from the life of Elisha to see what we can learn for our lives today.

This weekend we will have a special Sunday devoted to Addiction and Recovery. In the past we've done done this in September (September is National Recovery Month). We've switched things up this year because of my travel schedule. Tomorrow I'll be looking at the story of Naaman being healed of leprosy (recorded in 2 Kings 2), and draw from it an important reminder about the challenge of finding healing from addiction. By the way, there's an important message here for all of us ... not just alcohol and drug addicts and their families. The more we learn about the brain, and specifically how addictions hijack the reward centers of the brain, the more we see that the dynamics of addiction are at work with all kinds of behaviors, not just alcohol and drugs of abuse. We can -- and do -- become addicted to many different kinds of things, and our addictions exist on a spectrum from mild to severe. Most of us can identify with some kind of struggle with how we use food, drink, sex, drugs, work, computer gaming, gambling, etc. to help us cope with stress and the challenges of life. We all need to hear about and learn from addiction and recovery wisdom ... which has its roots in the Bible. This Sunday we'll also have some special guests -- several people will give testimony and/or talk about their work with addicts. We'll also be led in worship by a special guest worship leader, Don Damborg. It's going to be a great Sunday! I hope you can join us.
We all face conflicts in our relationships, but have you ever wondered how to resolve conflicts in a gospel-centred and biblically faithful manner? We will look into this topic as we equip ourselves to become the peacemakers that God wants us to be.
The kingdom of God is so backwards! The one who serves is the greatest, the king was born in a feed trough instead of a palace, and only the humble are lifted up. We're just not wired that way, are we? Neither was Naaman in II Kings 5. When the prophet Elisha gave Naaman an easy way to be blessed by God with healing from his leprosy, Naaman balked at the idea. Why? Because it was too easy, too humble, too low-key. Naaman wanted pomp, publicity, and pride...things that we often have to drop at the waters when the journey with God begins.
You may not have a superpower, but God has given you an opportunity to be a hero. There is only one thing needed to make a difference in the lives of others. Heroes always have it. Jesus had it. And you can have it too.

Our simple actions/words mean something to someone. God also often asks us to do simple things that transform us.

People can claim that they have faith until they are blue in the face, but if they don't have any works to back their claim up, it is just a bunch of hot air. Faith results in obedient action. The story of Naaman highlights the importance of being obedient to God.
Missioning Deeply
We make our walk with Christ more difficult than it needs to be because we really don't want to obey Him in all things. Also, when spreading the love of Christ with others, especially our loved ones, we make the Christian walk more difficult because we put ourselves in the position of God, rather than simply striving to be like God, meaning that we feel we must always have all the answers to people's needs. We put undue pressure on ourselves in this way, forgetting that one's salvation, whether ours or anyone else's, has everything to do with God and nothing to do with us. (2 Kings 5:1-14)

A lesson we can learn from a nobody
