For more than a year, a seven-foot creature with glowing red eyes and folded wings terrorized Point Pleasant, West Virginia—and just weeks after the sightings stopped, the Silver Bridge collapsed and killed 46 people, leaving the town to wonder whether the Mothman had been a monster, a warning, or something far worse.EPISODE BLOG PAGE (includes sources and full transcript): https://weirddarkness.com/RedEyesOfMothmanREAD or DOWNLOAD the full transcript of this episode:https://weirddarkness.tiny.us/2p8s2fxtFEATURED STORIES IN THIS EPISODE: Most everyone is familiar with the King James Bible, but did you know that King James also wrote a book on demonology during the witch hunts and trials? Copyright ©2026, Weird Darkness.Originally aired: November 15, 2021This episode of Weird Darkness, hosted by Darren Marlar, moves from a winged cryptid haunting a West Virginia river town to a Georgia teenager found dead inside a rolled wrestling mat, a Minnesota newlywed who vanished from a restaurant parking lot, and a king of England who wrote a manual on demons. It opens with the Mothman, first reported on November 15, 1966, when two young married couples driving past an abandoned World War II TNT plant near Point Pleasant, West Virginia, spotted a six- or seven-foot gray figure with folded wings and glowing red eyes that rose into the air and pursued their car down Highway 62 at over 100 miles per hour. That same night, contractor Newell Partridge of Salem watched his television fill with a strange pattern before his dog Bandit chased two red eyes toward the hay barn and disappeared forever, and the next day Roger Scarberry described passing a large dog's body near the city limits that was gone minutes later. Over the following year roughly 100 people, including Marcella Bennett, reported the creature alongside UFO sightings and men in black, and on December 15, 1967, the 700-foot Silver Bridge linking Point Pleasant to Ohio collapsed during rush hour and killed 46 people, cementing the belief that the Mothman had been a harbinger of the disaster. From there the episode turns to Kendrick Johnson, the 17-year-old three-sport athlete found dead on January 11, 2013, stuffed head-down inside a rolled wrestling mat in the old gym at Lowndes High School in Valdosta, Georgia. Investigators ruled the death an accidental positional asphyxia, theorizing the boy fell in reaching for a shoe, but his 19-inch shoulders could not fit through the mat's 14-inch opening, an hour of footage from all four gym cameras was missing and altered, and his organs were found removed and replaced with newspaper. A second and third autopsy revealed blunt force trauma to his neck and right chest, a fabricated confession recording sold to his family for $1,000 was exposed as a hoax by Sheriff Ashley Paulk, and the case, which once entangled FBI agent Randy Bell's sons Brandon and Brian Bell, was officially reopened on March 10, 2021.Vanishing from a restaurant parking lot is what happened next to Jerrilyn Mullins, a 28-year-old Oakdale, Minnesota, newlywed who left the dinner table at a Chi Chi's in Richfield around 9:00 p.m. on November 15, 1978, and was last seen by her husband's coworker Patrick Melbourne, who said he drove her 22 miles back to a Howard Johnson's and left her there. Her decomposed body surfaced in a Lake Elmo swamp on June 30, 1979, identified through dental records and jewelry, with two autopsies unable to determine a cause of death though her stomach contents placed her killing within an hour of leaving the restaurant. Melbourne, who carried a long record of sexual assault allegations and was later convicted of crimes against a 10-year-old girl, remained the prime suspect; husband Ron Mullins lost a 1989 wrongful-death civil suit for lack of evidence, and the Washington County case stayed unsolved when Melbourne died in 2015.The episode closes with King James VI and I, who returned from a 1589 trip to Denmark obsessed with witchcraft and published Daemonologie in 1597, the only treatise of its kind written by a reigning monarch. In its pages he catalogued the signs of demonic possession, describing superhuman strength exceeding six men, iron-hard skin that could not be pierced, and victims speaking languages they never learned, while arguing that demons inhabit the corpses of the pious and that only prayer and fasting, not Catholic ritual, could repel them. He acknowledged werewolves as men suffering an excess of melancholy rather than cursed creatures, dismissed fairies as illusions sent by the Devil, fixed the ratio of female to male witches at 20 to 1 by reasoning that women were more easily deceived as Eve had been, and produced a work that fueled the European and colonial witch hunts and shaped the weird sisters of William Shakespeare's Macbeth.

What if you could build a private practice rooted in love, flexibility, and meaningful community impact while still staying deeply connected to the families you serve? That question has shaped the journey of today's guest, and I can't wait for you to hear her story.I'm thrilled to introduce you to Rose Herring, owner of Evolve Therapy Solutions in Valdosta, Georgia. And she did it in just over a year.Rose Herring is a pediatric speech-language pathologist and founder of Evolve Therapy Solutions. She launched Evolve with a vision of providing high-quality speech, language, and feeding therapy in a space where families feel truly seen and supported.Outside of patient care, Rose mentors future clinicians at Valdosta State University and believes that if you can't take care of your first home, you can't take care of your practice. In Today's Episode, We Discuss:Why she decided to leave impostor syndrome at the door and shift into private practice How she built a niche around feeding therapyThe moment her husband Grant said “it's time to go all in.”Rose is truly living proof that you don't need a big budget, a big space, or decades of experience to start. You just need one client, one small step, and the willingness to figure it out as you go. As Evolve has grown, so has her role moving from solo clinician to practice owner and leader — while remaining committed to hands-on clinical care. What if the secret to a long, successful sales career had nothing to do with scripts, tactics, or closing techniques? Richard Cassell, Senior Director of Business Development at Black Box, learned his most important sales lesson at age 12 working at his family's gas station in Valdosta, Georgia. That moment set the foundation for a career built on one core idea: stop focusing on yourself and start focusing on what the customer actually needs. In this episode of Sales Lead Dog, Richard sits down with host Christopher Smith to unpack the mindset shifts, mentorship moments, and hard-won lessons that have shaped his approach to sales, leadership, and relationship building over multiple decades. From a pivotal two-year comeback at Washington Mutual to reframing an entire enterprise deal around mission instead of ROI, Richard shares real stories with real lessons that any sales professional can apply immediately. What You'll Learn The three principles a retired sales veteran gave Richard early in his career, and why they still drive his success today How a chance encounter at a Franklin Covey store in Seattle changed how he manages time and priorities Why being transparent about product gaps can actually win you the deal in the long run The Washington Mutual story: how Richard lost the room, came back two years later, and closed a career-defining deal How to build multi-threaded relationships inside complex enterprise accounts Why reframing around mission (not ROI) was the key to winning a major deal in Salt Lake City What Richard looks for in a mentor and how he recommends approaching high-level professionals His honest take on CRM: necessary evil or genuine sales tool Why AI is now changing the prospecting game and what that means for sales reps who want to stay competitive How Richard leads through nonprofit work and why giving back is a core part of his professional identity Guest Credentials Richard Cassell Senior Director of Business Development, Black Box Black Box is a global solutions provider specializing in IT infrastructure design, deployment, and management for enterprises, with a strong focus on healthcare across the United States. Assaults On Kids, Intervention and Investigations, His Experience. Retired Georgia Detective Shares the Harsh Truth About Investigations Into Assaults On Kids. In a recent interview on the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast, which is available for free on their website, also on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and most major podcast platforms. It is also promoted across their Facebook , Instagram , LinkedIn , Medium, retired Georgia law enforcement officer Bryan McRee opened up about his harrowing experience investigating assaults and sex assaults on kids, a career focus he never anticipated but ultimately became his calling. With 25 years in law enforcement, Bryan's journey took him from a city Police Department to the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office in south-central Georgia, where he served as a Detective. It was there that he found himself pulled into the darkest aspects of crime: investigations into child sexual abuse. The Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast episode is available for free on their website, Apple Podcasts, Spotify and most major podcast platforms. “I never thought this would become a specialty for me,” Bryan said. “But once I handled my first case involving a child, I realized how critical it was that someone do this right, and do it with compassion.” Look for supporting stories about this and much more from Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast in platforms like Medium , Blogspot and Linkedin . Throughout his career, Bryan led numerous investigations involving minors, often uncovering trauma that had been hidden within trusted circles. Assaults On Kids, Intervention and Investigations, His Experience. “The majority of these assaults come from someone the child knows, a family member, a coach, a caretaker,” he explained. “That betrayal adds another layer of trauma, and it complicates the investigation.” Available for free on their website and streaming on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and other podcast platforms. Bryan detailed two specific cases that he believes the news media often misrepresents, stories that don't make for comfortable headlines, but are sadly common. According to Bryan, intervention needs to happen early, and the focus should always be on the victims, not sensationalism. “One of the hardest parts was facing attacks, not just from suspects, but sometimes from their families, who refused to believe the victim. That's something the public rarely sees,” he noted. “But these kids... they needed someone to believe them.” The emotional toll of these cases wasn't lost on Bryan. Assaults On Kids, Intervention and Investigations, His Experience. You can listen to his stories and interview on our website for free in addition to platforms like Apple Podcasts and Spotify, and other major podcast platforms. “You try to leave the job at the office, but when a kid looks you in the eye and says what happened to them, that stays with you. You carry that forever.” He emphasized that part of his duty wasn't just about arrests and convictions, it was about intervention, providing hope and healing to children and families whose lives had been shattered. Child sexual abuse is alarmingly prevalent. According to national statistics, every 68 seconds an American is sexually assaulted, and the vast majority of abused children, up to 93% that were sexually assaulted knew their abuser. Despite that, only 25 out of every 1,000 perpetrators are ever imprisoned. Follow the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and podcast on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Medium and most all social media platforms. “People need to understand the scale of the problem,” Bryan stressed. “We're talking about hundreds of thousands of victims. And these kids often don't have a voice, so we have to be that voice.” Assaults On Kids, Intervention and Investigations, His Experience. In Georgia, initiatives like the Keeping Kids Safe Campaign are part of an ongoing effort to provide intervention services to victims. Organizations like the Georgia Center for Child Advocacy (GCCA) serve over 900 children each year, offering forensic interviews, trauma-informed therapy, and family support. “What GCCA does is incredible,” Bryan said. “They're rebuilding lives.” Lowndes County, where Bryan served, is located near the Florida border and is part of the Valdosta metropolitan area. Known for its strong community ties and rich history, the Sheriff's Office there operates with a mission rooted in justice, dignity, and community service. The interview is available as a free podcast on the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and podcast website, also available on platforms like Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and most major podcast outlets. “We were always taught to serve with integrity. To protect the innocent. That mission became very real when dealing with kids who had been assaulted.” Since retiring from law enforcement, Bryan has founded LEMS.Online, a company dedicated to modernizing law enforcement services. LEMS provides POST training, evidence room audits, and even duty-ready firearms and suppressors. The organization also offers a free training record management system for Georgia POST instructors, streamlining and improving how agencies track training and compliance. Assaults On Kids, Intervention and Investigations, His Experience. “It's about giving back,” he said. “My time as a cop taught me that law enforcement needs the right tools and training. LEMS is how I continue to serve, just in a different way.” His podcast episode dives deep into both the practical and emotional challenges of working cases involving the assaults on kids, and the vital role law enforcement plays in these investigations. His candid storytelling, combined with years of fieldwork, make it a must-listen for anyone interested in the reality behind the badge. You can listen to the full conversation now on the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast Websitem, on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and be sure to follow the ongoing discussion across Facebook, Instagram, X, and LinkedIn. Assaults On Kids, Intervention and Investigations, His Experience. Bryan's story is more than just a recount of a cop's experience, it's a sobering reminder of the work that still needs to be done to protect the most vulnerable among us. In this episode, we discuss motorcycle suspension sag. Suspension sag refers to the amount a motorcycle's suspension compresses under certain conditions, such as the bike's weight alone or the combined weight of the bike and rider. It is a critical setting in motorcycle and vehicle suspension tuning, directly affecting handling, comfort, and stability.   Why Suspension Sag is Important: Handling: Proper sag ensures the suspension is in the optimal range of travel for absorbing bumps and maintaining traction. Comfort: Reduces harshness over bumps and prevents excessive bottoming or topping out of the suspension. Control: Maintains balance between the front and rear suspension, providing predictable handling in turns and on uneven surfaces. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE Suspension preload refers to the initial compression applied to a motorcycle's suspension springs before any external forces, such as the weight of the bike or rider, are applied. It adjusts the suspension's starting position, influencing how much it compresses under load. Preload doesn't change the stiffness (spring rate) of the spring itself; it only alters the amount of force required to compress the spring further. How Preload Works: More Preload: Compresses the spring further, making the suspension stiffer initially. This reduces sag and raises the ride height. Less Preload: Reduces spring compression, making the suspension softer initially. This increases sag and lowers the ride height.
