As we participate in the Sabbath and delight in God, we will ultimately re-center ourselves on God himself. To keep the Sabbath holy means to sanctify that day, set it apart, and dedicate it to God for his special purposes. Our souls will feel fed when we are centered on God. To Practice the Way of Christ means to take the Sabbath day and all its blessings and use it as a day of personal worship to feed our souls in God.

At its core, biblical worship involves the heart. It is the laying down of our lives in adoration. Then from the heart connected place of adoration, we serve Him. As believers, we are called to a lifestyle of worship, and that looks like more than a song sung on Sundays. It's a wholistic shift to make Jesus the center of our lives, where, because we adore Him, we seek to please Him with every aspect of our lives.
Did you know that God designed worship? It's not because He needs it or because it somehow makes Him feel more secure in His leadership, however. Worship is something that we get to do. In fact, it can be an involuntary response when we are invested at the level that God's goodness demands.
The Worship revealed in Scripture seems foreign to us when we gaze at the culture and how it presents worship. Have we gotten too superficial with worship? Is our understanding of biblical worship anemic and self-centered? Do Christians practice worship in isolation with God today or is it reserved for the big stage? We take a peek behind the veil of Christian culture and into the heart of the 'worship experience'. PS. This is episode #100 and we thank God for all of the support and encouragement along the way! This is the last episode in our mini-series on Coping Skills to Calm your Nerves and Retrain your Brain. Our final episode happens to be airing on Halloween, so I felt led to discuss the power of worship and shifting the atmosphere in our hearts, home, and workplace. Worship is a weapon. Worship releases worry. Worship shifts the environment. Worship sends the enemy running. Ways to worship: Praise and worship. Even if you can't sing it, let it play quietly in the background. Words as worship. Thank God throughout the day. Actions as worship. What do you spend the most time and energy worshipping? Dance, workout, work, whatever you do, do it all to the glory of God. SPC is excited to host a lecture series that will continue our anti-racist faith formation. An Anti-Racist Faith seeks to inform and undergird the work to which we are called, opposing racism endemic to our society, while promoting racial tolerance that strengthens the fabric of our common life. From a policy statement adopted in 1999 by the General Assembly of the PC(USA), entitled Facing Racism, “We believe antiracist efforts are an essential aspect of Christian discipleship, without which we fail to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ. We believe our work is inherently intersectional in dismantling all systems of oppression, and so, we desire to come together in ways that can transform lives and perpetuate values that will change both church and society.” To this end, we've invited speakers with expertise in biblical studies, Presbyterian church history, liturgy and theology, to bring this anti-racist work into conversation with Scripture, church and denominational history, and our practice of worship. Rev. Dr. Cláudio Carvalhaes / The capstone to our lecture series will be to welcome the Rev. Dr. Cláudio Carvalhaes (Union Theological Seminary) on Sunday, November 21, who will lead us in a conversation at 3:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall, focusing on anti-racist language and practices of worship. Originally from Brazil, Cláudio Carvalhaes is an ecologist, artist, liturgist and theologian. Currently he is the Associate Professor of Worship at Union Theological Seminary – New York City. He is the editor of Liturgies from Below: Prayers from People at the Ends of the World and has recently published Praying With Every Heart – Orienting Our Lives to the Wholeness of the World.

Welcome to a new format. We decided to tackle some Bible passages surrounding worship & witness - Matthew 22 & Matthew 28. But we wanted to create some more bite size portions instead of packing it all into one big session. In this segment, we discussed the difference in how people respond to "Jesus follower" vs. the word "Christian"; the rise of so many different -isms (socialism, communism, leftism, conservatism, etc.) and how they're warring in our Western culture; and the amazing TV series The Chosen. All this in the context of Matthew 22 & 28. Listen in for Worship & Witness Part 1!

Daily devotion, adoration, reverence and honor towards God are all ways we can demonstrate worship. Our worship life is more than our response to the few slow songs at church on Sunday morning, but it is a witness to the world. What does your worship say about you? In Part Three of the Deeper Roots series, Dorian & Morgan explore the barriers to going deeper with God and identify the true benefits to using our lives as daily instruments of worship.
