Hello & Welcome back to the Just Hoops Podcast! In today's episode we dive into the concepts surrounding leadership within a team at all levels and the characteristics we would look for or have seen leaders have success with. Hope you enjoy as we continue our Team Building & Culture Series!
In our second installment in our new "Green & Red Arts and Culture Series" we talked about the book and movie *The Milagro Beanfield War." While is a heartwarming story of a regular guy taking on the system, there are significant political messages there too. The people of Milagro, New Mexico had to deal with outside "developers" coming in to their community take control of politics, the land, and even the war. The character Joe Mondragon then kicked a sluice gate to water his beans and invoked the wrath of local businessmen and politicians. Locally Joe became a hero and the development company put him in its crosshairs. The book, by John Nichols, and the movie directed by Robert Redford examine issues like land use, water rights, local organization efforts, community organizing, Latin culture, and more. --------------------------------- Outro- "Green and Red Blues" by Moody Follow Green and Red// +G&R Linktree: https://linktr.ee/greenandredpodcast +Our rad website: https://greenandredpodcast.org/ +Join our Discord community (https://discord.gg/knC2A4FW) Support the Green and Red Podcast// +Become a Patron at https://www.patreon.com/greenredpodcast +Or make a one time donation here: https://bit.ly/DonateGandR Our Networks// +We're part of the Labor Podcast Network: https://www.laborradionetwork.org/ +We're part of the Anti-Capitalist Podcast Network: linktr.ee/anticapitalistpodcastnetwork +Listen to us on WAMF (90.3 FM) in New Orleans (https://wamf.org/) This is a Green and Red Podcast (@PodcastGreenRed) production. Green and Red is starting a new series that talks about how art and culture develop and raise political consciousness. We'll be putting out episodes that talk about the politics of our favorite TV series, film, books, music and whatever else we come up. In our first episode of this new feature, we talk about the award winning television series "Mad Men." We talk about the anti-hero Don Draper and the rising feminism of Peggy Olson. We discuss it's reflections on the political economy, Edward Bernays and the history of the advertising industry, the gender politics of the 1960s, the military industrial complex, the ultimate co-optation of the spirit of the 60s in the shows series finale and much much more. Take a break from the news and our collapsing world and dive into Green and Red's Arts and Culture Series. ----------------------------------------- Intro and Outro- "A Beautiful Mine" by RJD2 Follow Green and Red// +G&R Linktree: https://linktr.ee/greenandredpodcast +Our rad website: https://greenandredpodcast.org/ + Join our Discord community ( / discord ) Support the Green and Red Podcast// +Become a Patron at / greenredpodcast +Or make a one time donation here: https://bit.ly/DonateGandR Our Networks// +We're part of the Labor Podcast Network: https://www.laborradionetwork.org/ +We're part of the Anti-Capitalist Podcast Network: linktr.ee/anticapitalistpodcastnetwork +Listen to us on WAMF (90.3 FM) in New Orleans (https://wamf.org/) This is a Green and Red Podcast (@PodcastGreenRed) production. In the second episode of the "SLPs and Hustle Culture Series," I'm unpacking the difference between "busy" and "productive" and how our obsession with being busy is killing our time management. And in a world where so many believe that the more we accomplish in a day, the more successful we are, it's easy to fall victim to the trap of hustle culture. What if instead, we focused on quality over quantity: in other words, getting the right things done rather than getting the most things done? How might that lead to better work-life balance? In the Scriptures, honor is more than just a word. We're called to honor the Lord our God. Honor our father and mother. Honor one another above ourselves. Honor our spouse. In each of these, honor is the foundation. Join Josh Yerton as we kick off our new sermon series and explore the Honor System - how to we can see the culture of God's Kingdom on earth as it is in heaven.
Ask 50 people what the Kingdom of God is and you are apt to get 50 different responses! If you allow people to call you whatever they want to, they define how others will see you. That is what happened to the Kingdom of God! Since the first century believers, the Kingdom as Jesus taught it, began to change because of the way people described it. They named it Christianity and labeled it as a religion. With religion comes doctrines, interpretations of scriptures, denominations and their denominational laws, traditions and positions...and here we are.
In our Christian theology, the concept of "Kingdom Culture" or "Heavenly Citizenship" refers to the idea that we as Christians, while living on Earth, are also citizens of the Kingdom of God, which is a heavenly, spiritual realm. This concept is deeply rooted in the teachings of Jesus Christ and the New Testament of the Bible. It reminds us that our ultimate allegiance is to God's Kingdom and that we are called to live according to its values and principles even as we navigate the challenges and temptations of this world.

Dr. John Vervaeke reunites with guest Damien Walter in an engaging second episode to unpack the fascinating theory of Star Trek as a potent contemporary mythos. They dissect storytelling as a "psycho-technology" that mirrors human cognition and immerses us in collective human experiences. The episode focuses on how Star Trek bridges the gap between traditional, modern, and postmodern narratives, with discussions on metamodernism and its relevance in narrative reconstruction. Vervaeke and Walter delve into Plato's influence on narrative crafting, modern myth-making, and the cultivation of new ways to access the sacred. Walter elucidates the unique structure of Star Trek, explaining its appeal to society's conservative aspects and its subversion of the military-industrial complex. Vervaeke aligns Star Trek's philosophy with the Enlightenment's mythos, further establishing its significance in our modern narrative. Timecodes: [00:00:00] Dr. John Vervaeke introduces Damien Walter, setting the stage for an exploration of Star Trek as a contemporary mythos. [00:01:03] Damien Walter shares his video essay, inspiring the conversation around the postmodern deconstruction of Star Trek. [00:03:16] Walter discusses how storytelling enables persona creation, marking a critical moment in understanding narrative impact. [00:35:44] Walter presents Gene Roddenberry as a modern myth-maker, transitioning to Star Trek's narrative analysis. [00:39:05] Comparing the idealized order in Star Trek's Enterprise to Plato's Republic. [00:43:01] Vervaeke commends Damien Walter's thesis, aligning Star Trek's philosophy with the Enlightenment's mythos, dissecting Star Trek's ability to cater to conservative aspects of society while still providing a platform for progress. [00:47:14] Walter discusses Star Trek's critique and subversion of the military-industrial complex, demonstrating its dual appeal. [00:50:15] Vervaeke builds upon Walter's point, illuminating the series' progressive elements rooted in the Enlightenment's mythos. [00:52:47] Walter and Vervaeke delve into the idea of Star Trek's Federation as a utopian vision, a 'sacred' space for exploring societal issues. [00:57:00] The episode concludes with reflections on how Star Trek, as a modern mythos, offers a new perspective for understanding our society and its future. In this Gapology Radio episode, we discuss these questions by looking at them through the lens of Gapology.

In this segment of our Church and Culture Series, we discuss the office of Pastor - a highly respected, divinely assigned yet humanly coveted office. Why is there so much controversy over the office? Why is there so much hurt that comes at the hands of those who carry the office? Why is there so much neglect for those who are called to the office? Why is there so much idolatry of those of hold the office e? It seems that we need to back up and find a biblical understanding of the role in order for us to faithfully regard the office. The Worship revealed in Scripture seems foreign to us when we gaze at the culture and how it presents worship. Have we gotten too superficial with worship? Is our understanding of biblical worship anemic and self-centered? Do Christians practice worship in isolation with God today or is it reserved for the big stage? We take a peek behind the veil of Christian culture and into the heart of the 'worship experience'. PS. This is episode #100 and we thank God for all of the support and encouragement along the way!
