The Book of Anurag Sagar (Ocean of Love) is a Volume of the Kabir Sagar (Ocean of Kabir), one of several scriptures used by the Sant Dharam Das line of Masters. "'Hazur [Baba Sawan Singh] one day told Seth Vasdev, whose car is always at Hazur's disposal, that he should read Kabir Sahib's Anurag Sagar (The Ocean of Intense Love). Hazur said that without studying it, one cannot fully understand the difference between Kal (the negative power) and Dayal Mat (the Path of the true and Merciful God), nor can one fully grasp the teachings of Sant Mat.'" (Rai Sahib Munshi Ram, With the Three Masters, Vol. 2, p.187) Kabir said: "Bowing my Head to Him I started and, Dharam Das, now I have come to you... You are my very dear soul about whom I worried a lot. With the orders of Sat Purush [Supreme Being] I came to you, and made you remember the previous things. I gave you darshan [vision] only because of that. O Dharam Das! this time you recognized me. I will tell you Sat Purush's Words: 'Recognize the Shabda and have faith.'" "Dharam Das fell at the Feet, and from his eyes the tears came. He grew very excited and said, 'O Lord, You have finished the deception of my soul.' Even after having all this explained to him he could not calm down. He was like a mother who, after being separated from her child, is reunited." Anurag Sagar: "Oh Dharam Dass! If a person gives up all doubts, meditates regularly on Naam imparted by the Master, and behaves in the manner the saints behave and follows in their footsteps, that is, he listens to the Sound Current within himself, then he can tread the path of saints in search of the Highest Truth. There is a Sound Current coming from the Final Abode and calling you to come. So if you listen to that Call, then you can ascend like saints." In this first part of a two-part episode, Mandy Matney, Liz Farrell and everyone's favorite attorney Eric Bland talk about the suspicious circumstances surrounding Alex Murdaugh's one big case as a lead prosecutor; the untouchable “retired” judges who are reluctant to give up the power (and money) that come with the black robes; and the time Eric had to go to Circuit City to buy something to place at the altar of Dick Harpootlian. As we revisit the ONE CASE Alex tried as a lead prosecutor — the Emmanuel Buckner case in 2019 - we talk in depth about that in episode 73 of Murdaugh Murders Podcast. If you haven't listened to that one yet, we recommend you start there. We also got some really good perspective from Eric on what it is really like out there for young attorneys in South Carolina who weren't born with the last name Murdaugh. The Torah commands in Parashat Behar (Vayikra 26:1) that one may not place an “Eben Maskit” on the ground on which to bow. This refers to a stone with a design that was either drawn or engraved on the stone. The Torah forbids bowing on such a stone, even if one bows to express his submission to Hashem. The Rambam writes that the Torah forbade bowing on an “Eben Maskit” because this resembles the idolatrous practice of placing in front of an object of worship a decorative stone, and then bowing on the stone. In order to distance ourselves from pagan worship, the Torah forbade many practices which were common among idolaters, including bowing on a stone with a design. Therefore, it is forbidden to bow on such a stone, even if one bows to Hashem. The Sefer Ha'hinuch adds a second reason for this prohibition, noting that bowing on a decorative stone gives the impression of bowing to the stone. The Torah does not forbid bowing on a garment or some other perishable item, but bowing on a stone, which is permanent, appears as a type of pagan worship, and is thus forbidden. This Torah prohibition applies only to “Pishut Yadayim Ve'raglayim” – bowing down on the floor with one's hands and knees, as we do during the Aboda service on Yom Kippur. Bowing on an “Eben Maskit” without lowering oneself to the floor is prohibited only by force of Rabbinic enactment. It is permissible to cover an “Eben Maskit” with a cloth, such as a carpet, and then bow on it. This is why it is customary in synagogues that have stone floors without carpeting to place materials on the floor for the bowing during the Yom Kippur service. The Torah formulates this command as a prohibition against bowing on these stones “Be'arsechem” – “in your land.” The Sages understood that this prohibition actually applies even outside the Land of Israel, and the word “Be'arsechem” implies that bowing on an “Eben Maskit” is permitted in the Bet Ha'mikdash, which is not considered “our” land (as it is G-d's domain). In the Bet Ha'mikdash, it is permissible to bow to Hashem directly on the stone floor. The Sefer Ha'hinuch writes that according to the reason he offered for this prohibition – to avoid giving the impression of bowing to the stone – it is understandable that it does not apply in the Bet Ha'mikdash, where one could hardly be suspected of worshiping a stone. According to the Rambam's understanding, however, that the Torah wanted to distance us from anything that resembles pagan practice, we might wonder why an exception would be made in the Bet Ha'mikdash. Some commentators suggest that since the Kohanim were known to be especially vigilant (“Kohanim Zerizim Hem”), the Torah was not concerned about bowing in the Mikdash in a manner resembling the pagans' bowing. This prohibition applies in all times and places, and to both men and women. One who bowed on the ground on a stone with a design has transgressed this command and is liable to Malkut. It must be emphasized that this prohibition refers to somebody who bows to G-d, not to an idol or to the stone itself. If one bows to an object, then he is liable to capital punishment for transgressing the grave prohibition of idol-worship. The Torah speaks here of one who believes in G-d and seeks to worship Him; even in such a case, bowing on an “Eben Maskit” is prohibited.

“Keeping the world at peace is an inside job.” Believe it or not, our difficult emotional content was part of what we signed up for in this lifetime. Our experience on Earth is compelling and dramatic, yet we all came here voluntarily with the courage to take on the karma of our bodies and our experiences. Believe it or not, YOU ARE A HEALER. This meditation is a reminder that we have permission to forgive ourselves and our hard lessons. We have the capacity to heal ourselves. Listen in as Debra walks us down this meditative path leading to the gift of the Observer- neutrality. It's just a thought away. In this meditation, we visualize our “little self” that is so new to this world. We all share this point of origin and we all share the impacts of trauma. We are called to reach out and say to our little self- “I've got you.” No matter how your story has unfolded or what is yet to come, this life was a full-on choice and we are all so lucky to be alive. Astrology helps us remember our life story, serving as a guiding resource to fulfill our soul's promise. Let this meditation help you lean into the notion of loving your stories, viewing your circumstances from a place of neutrality, and generating compassion for ourselves and the world. ——— Listen to other moments of meditation and deep conversation within The Star Library. Queen Esther had a difficult decision to make which was a matter of life and death not only for herself but for her people. She had hidden her identity as a Jew and now a proclamation to kill all Jews had been decreed for a certain date. After fasting for three days and nights she made a decision to go into the inner courts of the king and wait to see if she would be killed or given permission by the king to approach him. She said in a message to Mordecai, her uncle, “I will go to the king, which is against the law, and if I perish, I perish.” She went in faith and with courage. The king raised his golden scepter allowing Queen Esther to come and speak with him. The Bible says that she found favor with the king and he asked her to give him her request. He said he would give her up to half of his kingdom. Queen Esther came prepared with her request. She didn't beg the king to save her people at that time. Here is her opportunity to make such a request, but instead she invites the king and Haman to come to a banquet that she has prepared for him. The invitation pleased the king so he quickly called for Haman and invited him as well. Haman attended the banquet with the king and again the king asked Queen Esther for her request, up to half of his kingdom. Queen Esther invited the king and Haman back for another private banquet the next day and said she would make her request at that time. Haman was so happy on his way home from the banquet until he saw Mordecai the Jew. Mordecai would not bow to him and tremble before him. Haman was incensed, but restrained himself from doing anything at that moment. He didn't want to spoil the memory of being with the king and queen at the banquet. When Haman got home he gathered his wife and friends and bragged about the banquet, his riches, his blessings, his many children, and how he had been promoted. But he did reveal what was truly in his heart. With all of his great riches, family, and promotions, when he saw Mordecai sitting at the king's gate (the town square where business is conducted), these great things meant nothing to him. His hatred toward Mordecai was greater than the good fortune he was experiencing. The evil heart is never satisfied. Haman could not fully enjoy all of his worldly blessings and his family as long as he saw Mordecai disrespecting him. You may be wondering, “Why didn't Mordecai show respect and bow to Haman?” The book of Esther does not give the reason for Mordecai's refusal, but it does describe Haman as the son of Hammedatha the Agagite. Haman came from the lineage of Agag, former king of Amalek. The Amalekites had been enemies of the Jews for many centuries because they were the first to attack them when they came out of Egypt and continued to have battles with them as recorded in the Old Testament. Some historians believe that Haman may have worn a pagan symbol or idol. Bowing to an idol goes against God's law which is Jewish law (Exodus 20:2). When Mordecai is referred to as, “the Jew,” it would be customary for a Jew not to bow to an idol or pagan symbol. Jesus said in Matthew 15:19, “For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, sexual immorality, thefts, false witness, blasphemies.” God does not look at the outward appearance of a person, but what is in a person's heart (I. Samuel 16:7). What comes out of the mouth, your words, comes from your heart and the Lord searches all hearts and understands every plan and thought. Pastor Cindy continues our series on Idols with the topic of our work. Work isn't bad in and of itself. It is actually good, designed by God for us before evil corrupted it. Last week launched us into a new series. Pastor Mark got us thinking about how so many different things in our lives, if we aren't careful, can creep in and challenge God's place in our lives. This week, Pastor Mark cut straight to the heart of modern day idolatry around stuff and money. We pursue money and toys and extra, and then wonder why it is never enough. Idols are not just statues or objects found in certain religions. They are created things that become such a focus for us that we deflect our worship from God to those things. Ajahn Dhammasiha talks about Luang Por Kalyano's 60th birthday, and shares that he's really looking forward to having a senior monk visiting that he can bow to. Contrary to attitudes common nowadays, having something to respect, and to express that in an external gesture, is actually very uplifting for our mind. A member in the audience asks if bowing is still of benefit if one doesn't really feel anything, but is just following external convention? In his response, Ajahn explains that we can get stuck in 'Sīlabbata-parāmāsa', the third of the ten fetters ('saṃyojana'), if we perform rituals perfuctory, in a superficial way without understanding. However, if we use the external form to develop the corresponding internal attitude and emotions, then rituals can be a strong support for our mental cultivation ('bhāvanā'). Conceit ('māna') and it's relationship to bowing and the delusion of self is also touched upon in the discussion.
