If you’ve ever wrestled with feelings of not being enough, this conversation will offer both the science and biblical encouragement you need to break free from shame and embrace who God says you are. Quotables from the episode: Shame is a heavy burden that whispers lies about our worth and keeps us stuck in cycles of fear, hiding, and disconnection. Yet both science and Scripture point us toward freedom. God’s truth can rewire negative thought patterns, renew your sense of identity, and restore your relationship with Him and others. When shame is triggered, we don’t just feel bad—we literally lose access to clear thinking. That’s why people spiral, ruminate, and get stuck. The fascinating part is this: neuroscience shows that shame isn’t just an emotion—It affects our nervous system, our relationships, and even our physical health. Guilt and shame are very different. Guilt says, ‘I did something wrong.’ Shame says, ‘I am something wrong.’ Shame is the enemy’s weapon to distort our identity and keep us from God’s love and community. But notice what God did. He came looking for them. He clothed them. That’s a picture of His heart. He moves toward us in our shame. When shame whispers, ‘You’re not enough,’ the cross declares, ‘You are covered. You are loved. You are free.’ What’s beautiful is that neuroscience confirms what Scripture has always said—connection heals shame. Shame may be loud, but it is not your identity. Your mistakes, your past, your wounds—they don’t define you. God does. And He says you are chosen, beloved, forgiven, and free. Hello Family,I have been deeply encouraged by the depth and enormity of the feedback that we have received regarding this theme of becoming.It reveals how many people are quietly wrestling with limitations that they did not consciously choose… I mean patterns reinforced subliminally over time through culture, environments, repeated exposure, and accepted narratives that eventually become automatic ways of thinking and living.Why? Because every era and every system develops its own socio-economic and cultural programming mechanisms.And over time, failure and success, poverty and value, can begin to produce automatic outcomes and results in people's lives.But now is the time to reset and reprogram the mind beyond fear, beyond survival, and beyond every invisible boundary that has resisted your becoming.It is important now to note here that this transformational process is not sustained, nor possible by occasional inspiration. But it happens as a result of consistent exposure to transformational truth until the mind is renewed to all that God has promised us in Christ… and all that we already are but not yet manifesting in Christ our King.
King David had a noble plan to build God a magnificent temple, but God said no. This wasn't because David's plan was sinful, but because God had something better in mind. When God redirects our good plans, we can respond like David did: sit and listen to God's perspective, rest in His character and sovereignty, and obey what He has revealed while trusting His bigger picture. David wanted to build God a house, but God promised to build David an eternal kingdom through his lineage, ultimately pointing to Jesus. Sometimes God's no leads to something far greater than we could have imagined.
This sermon challenges believers to examine whether they are living from false identities rooted in accomplishments, roles, possessions, and external affirmation, or from their true identity in Christ. Jen emphasizes that while culture celebrates temporal achievements and attributes, God calls us to be "new creations" whose primary identity is rooted in being chosen, beloved children of God. The message explores the difference between passively holding our identity versus actively receiving it—comparing it to a child learning to catch versus a professional receiver who grasps, protects, and runs with the ball. Through the character study of Simon Peter, the sermon illustrates how Jesus speaks identity over us and invites us into transformation, even when we struggle to live into that identity fully. The key theological insight is that our identity in Christ is not something we earn or construct, but something we receive as a gift, and we must actively open, believe, and live from that truth daily.Read Ephesians 2:8-10Salvation is a gift, not a reward. Yet how often do we carry God's gift around unopened, never truly receiving what He offers? Like a beautifully wrapped present left in the bag with tissue intact, we acknowledge God's grace but fail to unwrap and live from it. Receiving requires action—opening your hands, drawing the gift close, protecting it, and running with it. Today, consider what gifts God has given you that remain unopened: freedom from shame, righteousness, belonging. Don't just hold these truths at arm's length. Draw them into your heart. Let them transform how you see yourself. Welcome to The Daily, where we study the Bible verse by verse, chapter by chapter, every day. Get your Hosea Scripture Journal now. Our shout-out today goes to Jeffrey Mattson from Woodland Park, CO. Thanks for your partnership in Project23. Our text today is Hosea 1:7-9. But I will have mercy on the house of Judah, and I will save them by the Lord their God. I will not save them by bow or by sword or by war or by horses or by horsemen." When she had weaned No Mercy, she conceived and bore a son. And the Lord said, "Call his name Not My People, for you are not my people, and I am not your God." — Hosea 1:7-9 What happens when a people who belong to God stop living like they belong to him? That question sits at the center of today's passage. After the birth of Lo-ruhamah—"No Mercy"—another child is born. This time, God commands Hosea to give the boy a name that would have stunned the nation. Lo-ammi. The name means "Not My People." To understand how shocking this would have been, we have to remember the covenant language God used with Israel for centuries. When God rescued Israel from Egypt, he declared: "I will take you to be my people, and I will be your God." — Exodus 6:7 That phrase defined Israel's entire identity. They were the people of God. But now, because of persistent rebellion and idolatry, God declares something unthinkable. "You are not my people." The statement does not mean God stopped being sovereign over them. Instead, it reveals that the covenant relationship had been broken by their unfaithfulness. Israel had chosen other gods, other loyalties, and other sources of security. In effect, they had already walked away from the relationship. Yet tucked inside this warning is an important contrast. In verse 7, God says he will show mercy to Judah, the southern kingdom. And their deliverance will not come through military strength—no bow, sword, army, or horses. Their salvation will come from the Lord himself. This reminds us of a powerful truth: security never ultimately comes from power, politics, or military strength. It comes from God alone. Israel trusted alliances and armies. Judah would soon learn that their protection depended on God's intervention. And the same lesson still applies today. People often place their confidence in systems, leaders, wealth, or national strength. But God repeatedly reminds his people that real security does not come from human power. It comes from him. So today, take a moment to examine where your trust truly rests. Is it placed in things that feel strong and reliable—or in the God who holds history in his hands? Move your confidence back where it belongs. DO THIS: Identify one area where you tend to place your trust in human strength instead of God—and intentionally place that concern into God's hands today. ASK THIS: Why do people often trust systems, power, or security more than they trust God? What does it practically look like to place your confidence in God rather than in human solutions? Where in your life do you most need to trust God right now? PRAY THIS: Father, help me place my trust in you rather than in human strength or security. Remind me that my true confidence rests in you alone. Amen. PLAY THIS: "In Christ Alone"
