Jesus' Mission Through His People explores God's heart for the nations from beginning to end. From God's promise to bless all peoples through Abraham, to Jesus' command to make disciples of all nations, to the future picture of every nation worshiping together, this sermon reminds us that Jesus' mission has always been global. We are invited not just to believe the gospel, but to live it—aligning our lives with Christ's mission and joyfully participating in God's work of making His name known to the world.OUTLINE:Biblical reality- Genesis 12:1-3Present reality- Matthew 28:18-20Future reality- Revelation 7:9-10 QUESTIONS:In your own words, how would you define Jesus' mission in this world? In what ways does Jesus' mission shape how you view your mission? Where is your mission misaligned with his? What barriers exist in your life that hinder your joy in salvation overflowing in joyful proclamation to others? How might you seek to grow in your love and service of the nations? Jesus is bringing all things back under His authority- the church is going to be a picture of rest in a world of rebellion.OUTLINE: Preparation Philippians 2:9-10 Protection Hebrews 13:17QUESTIONS: When you hear the words authority or submission, what emotions or past experiences come to mind?According to Philippians 2:9-10, what is the future reality every human being will face? How does living under authority now prepare us for that coming reality? What ‘layers of authority' has God placed in your life (family, HOA, church, workplace, civil)? Which of those layers is easiest for you to submit to- which is hardest? Why?In what ways has submission exposed pride, fear, or self-reliance in your heart? How do you see submission playing a role in your sanctification- becoming more like Jesus?SCRIPTURE REFERENCE: Matthew 28:18

Where do you find yourself living with foreboding joy- bracing for loss or disappointment instead of resting in His security? What would it look like to receive Jesus' joy in that place today?(John 17:14-16) Unprocessed hate doesn't disappear- it spreads. How can this group become a place where bitterness is named, prayed through and metabolized so that it wont metastasis and spread?(John 17:17-19) What makes confession feel so risky to you? What fears keep you hiding or managing your sin instead of bringing it into the light? How can this group be a place where confession and repentance are safe and rejoiced in?(John 17:20-21) Jesus says that our unity is proof that God is real. Where do you see fragmentation, division, isolation or distrust in your relationships or in the church? What is the Church—and why does it matter? In this message from our Church Series, we look at what Scripture says about the Church, the real challenges it faces, and the unshakable hope Jesus gives His people. From the bad news of a real enemy who seeks to discourage and divide (1 Peter 5:8), to the good news that Jesus is building His Church and nothing can stop it (Matthew 16:18), this sermon invites us to see the Church not just as a place we attend—but a people we belong to. The Church was never intended to be a place we go, but a people who gather around a great truth...Jesus Changes Everything. OUTLINE:Bad News 1 Peter 5:8Some News 1 Peter 5:8Good News Matthew 16:18 QUESTIONS:When you think of the Church, what comes to mind first-building, service, family, mission? Why do you think that's your first picture? What does the Bible say the church is? (1 Peter 2:9-12)The Bible tells us that we have an enemy who seeks to devour us. Where have you grown weary or lost heart in ministry, community or relationships? What has been discouraging you about church or serving?Where do you see God working in our body? What is one simple step you sense God is calling you to to build up the body at Hillside? SCRIPTURE REFERENCE:Hebrews 10:23-25NEXT WEEK:John 17:13-21
Thom and Jess continue the “Future Church” series with an episode on how church staffing is changing in this new era of ministry. Churches are smaller, leaner, and more focused than ever. Budgets are tighter, but opportunities for mission are wider. The result is a new kind of church staff—leaders who serve both inside and outside the church, combining pastoral calling with marketplace skills. In this conversation, Thom and Jess introduce four co-vocational roles that are shaping the staff structure of the future church. The post Future Church Series – Episode 5: The Rise of Four New Co-Vocational Church Staff appeared first on Church Answers.
Thom and Jess conclude the “Future Church” series with an episode that puts church size into perspective. In an age when many pastors feel pressure to grow larger, the reality is that most congregations are small—and that's not a problem. This episode explores what the data actually reveals about church attendance, why most churches are smaller than we think, and how leaders can find encouragement no matter the numbers. The post Future Church Series – Episode 6: What Is the Size of the Typical Church in the Future? appeared first on Church Answers.
Thom and Jess continue the “Future Church” series with an episode focused on one of the most important—and most misunderstood—topics in today's congregations: evangelism. The way people come to faith is changing, and so are the methods churches use to share the gospel. Attendance patterns are different. Communities are more skeptical of institutions. And more often than not, the first place someone encounters the church is online, not in person. In this conversation, the Rainers look at how evangelism is evolving, why it still matters deeply, and four major trends shaping how local churches reach people today. The post Future Church Series – Episode 3: Trends in Evangelism in the Local Church appeared first on Church Answers.
The Rainers continue the 6-part series called “The Future Church.” Over the next episodes, we'll explore how the landscape of ministry is changing—and how leaders can prepare with wisdom, courage, and hope. Thom and Jess discuss how churches are making evangelism more than a slogan or a sermon topic—how to make it visible, tangible, and celebrated in the life of the congregation. Most believers genuinely want to share their faith, but they often need reminders, encouragement, and creative ways to stay focused on the mission. In this episode, Thom and Jess offer four practical ideas any church can implement to highlight the importance of evangelism every week. The post Future Church Series – Episode 4: Making Evangelism Visible appeared first on Church Answers.
Welcome to a brand-new series on The Church Answers Podcast called “The Future Church.” Over the next six episodes, we'll explore how the landscape of ministry is changing—and how leaders can prepare with wisdom, courage, and hope. In this first episode, Thom and Jess begin by looking at one of the most intriguing movements shaping the future: the rise of the microchurch. This small, mission-driven model is gaining traction across the United States and around the world. What exactly is a microchurch, how is it structured, and why is it so different from other forms of church? Let's find out. The post Future Church Series – Episode 1: The Microchurch appeared first on Church Answers.
Welcome back to The Church Answers Podcast and to our ongoing series called “The Future Church.” In each episode, Thom and Jess unpack the shifts shaping tomorrow's congregations—and how pastors and leaders can prepare today. In this episode, we're looking at a subject every church feels: money. The financial landscape of ministry is changing rapidly. Attendance patterns have shifted, giving habits have evolved, and the next generation is thinking about generosity in completely new ways. So, what will funding look like for the future church? Thom and Jess explore four emerging models that are helping churches stay healthy and mission-focused in a changing economy. The post Future Church Series – Episode 2: The Economics of the Future Church appeared first on Church Answers.
This Sunday, Pastor Suzy Silk continued our “Making Sense of Church” Series by calling us to take up our roles as priests in the Kingdom of God. Like the priesthood of ancient Israel, we are called to stand apart in the world as examples of God's holy love and goodness. As priests under the New Covenant, we should be living in such a way that compels people to ask questions, and actively join Jesus in expanding the priesthood by sharing about God's story and His Kingdom to people who do not yet know Him.
Gen. 2:18Loneliness is one of the silent struggles of our generation. Even in crowded rooms and busy schedules, many hearts still feel unseen and unheard. But God never designed us to live isolated lives. From the beginning, He created us for connection—with Him and with one another. Today, we'll discover how the Church—not just the building but the people—can become a place of grace, healing, and purpose. When the service is over, we don't walk away; we stay in the room. Come and see what happens when love lingers, and community begins.
Mark 2:17They tore the roof open to get their friend to Jesus! That's faith in action—and that's what we're talking about this week at New Hope!Join us for “The Miracle You Need Most!” — Part 3 of our We Are the Church series.Discover how God still meets people in their deepest need and changes lives forever.
Acts 2:42-46When you look at the early church in Acts, you don't see a group of people just attending a service once a week. You see a movement. You see men and women radically transformed by Jesus—devoted to His Word, devoted to each other, and devoted to reaching the world. They weren't playing it safe; they were sold out, generous, and bold in their faith. And because of that, the Lord added to their number daily. That same call is before us today. We are not just going to church—we are the church.
James 1:22We believe the church isn't a building—it's people. And when each of those people knows who they are and what they believe, they can achieve incredible things together. In our new series, We Are the Church, let's learn more about who we are and how we can work together to change the world.
