What is the Church—and why does it matter? In this message from our Church Series, we look at what Scripture says about the Church, the real challenges it faces, and the unshakable hope Jesus gives His people. From the bad news of a real enemy who seeks to discourage and divide (1 Peter 5:8), to the good news that Jesus is building His Church and nothing can stop it (Matthew 16:18), this sermon invites us to see the Church not just as a place we attend—but a people we belong to. The Church was never intended to be a place we go, but a people who gather around a great truth...Jesus Changes Everything. OUTLINE:Bad News     1 Peter 5:8Some News  1 Peter 5:8Good News   Matthew 16:18 QUESTIONS:When you think of the Church, what comes to mind first-building, service, family, mission? Why do you think that's your first picture? What does the Bible say the church is? (1 Peter 2:9-12)The Bible tells us that we have an enemy who seeks to devour us. Where have you grown weary or lost heart in ministry, community or relationships? What has been discouraging you about church or serving?Where do you see God working in our body? What is one simple step you sense God is calling you to to build up the body at Hillside? SCRIPTURE REFERENCE:Hebrews 10:23-25NEXT WEEK:John 17:13-21

Thom and Jess continue the “Future Church” series with an episode on how church staffing is changing in this new era of ministry. Churches are smaller, leaner, and more focused than ever. Budgets are tighter, but opportunities for mission are wider. The result is a new kind of church staff—leaders who serve both inside and outside the church, combining pastoral calling with marketplace skills. In this conversation, Thom and Jess introduce four co-vocational roles that are shaping the staff structure of the future church. Thom and Jess conclude the “Future Church” series with an episode that puts church size into perspective. In an age when many pastors feel pressure to grow larger, the reality is that most congregations are small—and that's not a problem. This episode explores what the data actually reveals about church attendance, why most churches are smaller than we think, and how leaders can find encouragement no matter the numbers. Thom and Jess continue the “Future Church” series with an episode focused on one of the most important—and most misunderstood—topics in today's congregations: evangelism. The way people come to faith is changing, and so are the methods churches use to share the gospel. Attendance patterns are different. Communities are more skeptical of institutions. And more often than not, the first place someone encounters the church is online, not in person. In this conversation, the Rainers look at how evangelism is evolving, why it still matters deeply, and four major trends shaping how local churches reach people today. The Rainers continue the 6-part series called “The Future Church.” Over the next episodes, we'll explore how the landscape of ministry is changing—and how leaders can prepare with wisdom, courage, and hope. Thom and Jess discuss how churches are making evangelism more than a slogan or a sermon topic—how to make it visible, tangible, and celebrated in the life of the congregation. Most believers genuinely want to share their faith, but they often need reminders, encouragement, and creative ways to stay focused on the mission. In this episode, Thom and Jess offer four practical ideas any church can implement to highlight the importance of evangelism every week. Welcome to a brand-new series on The Church Answers Podcast called “The Future Church.” Over the next six episodes, we'll explore how the landscape of ministry is changing—and how leaders can prepare with wisdom, courage, and hope. In this first episode, Thom and Jess begin by looking at one of the most intriguing movements shaping the future: the rise of the microchurch. This small, mission-driven model is gaining traction across the United States and around the world. What exactly is a microchurch, how is it structured, and why is it so different from other forms of church? Let's find out. In this episode, we're looking at a subject every church feels: money. The financial landscape of ministry is changing rapidly. Attendance patterns have shifted, giving habits have evolved, and the next generation is thinking about generosity in completely new ways. So, what will funding look like for the future church? Thom and Jess explore four emerging models that are helping churches stay healthy and mission-focused in a changing economy. This Sunday, Pastor Suzy Silk continued our “Making Sense of Church” Series by calling us to take up our roles as priests in the Kingdom of God. Like the priesthood of ancient Israel, we are called to stand apart in the world as examples of God's holy love and goodness. As priests under the New Covenant, we should be living in such a way that compels people to ask questions, and actively join Jesus in expanding the priesthood by sharing about God's story and His Kingdom to people who do not yet know Him.

In this inaugural episode of the new series "Kingdom Now," Pastor Karl introduces an in-depth journey through the Gospel of Matthew. Titled after Jesus's prayer in Matthew 6, "Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven," this series explores the unique perspective of Matthew's Gospel, emphasizing the kingdom of God in an upside-down way that challenges expectations. Pastor Karl sets the stage by providing background on the four Gospels, highlighting Matthew's distinct focus on Jesus as the royal Messiah from the line of David, written specifically for a Jewish audience. He delves into Matthew's identity as a former tax collector, illustrating how Jesus transformed his life, changing his identity and direction. Through Matthew's story, Pastor Karl introduces the discipleship process of "belong, become, give, and go," encouraging listeners to reflect on their own spiritual journey. The episode focuses on Matthew 1:1-17, exploring Jesus's genealogy and its purposeful inclusion of unexpected figures, reinforcing the message that when God writes the story, nothing is a mistake. Acts 2:42-46When you look at the early church in Acts, you don't see a group of people just attending a service once a week. You see a movement. You see men and women radically transformed by Jesus—devoted to His Word, devoted to each other, and devoted to reaching the world. They weren't playing it safe; they were sold out, generous, and bold in their faith. And because of that, the Lord added to their number daily. That same call is before us today. They explain the philosophy behind their Oak Church project, why faith must be practical, poetic, and alive, and how reclaiming old stories and building new ones is key to forging a sacred path in today's world. This week on the SSPX Podcast we address the sensitive topic of pregnancies out of wedlock. These occurrences, though hopefully rare, do happen and Catholics should know how to address them prudently and in the light of Catholic moral teaching. Moreover, out-of-wedlock pregnancies raise a host of questions, with the most prevalent being, “Must the father and mother of the child enter into marriage?” This was the main question from a listener which sparked this episode. But Father Ian Palko and I will dive into some connected questions as well; concerning the relationship between unwed parents, their respective roles in a child's life, and how we as Christians ought to treat them and their situation.View on YouTube: https://youtu.be/cpt5nwywujA Support the SSPX Podcast with 1-time or Monthly Donation >>Questions with Father full series: https://sspxpodcast.com/digital-dangers/View all our episodes, including the Crisis in the Church Series >>Subscribe to the SSPX YouTube channel here >>SSPX News Website: https://fsspx.news/enVisit the US District website: https://sspx.org/en What is the SSPX Podcast? The SSPX Podcast is produced by Angelus Press, which has as its mission the fortification of traditional Catholics so that they can defend the Faith, and reaching out to those who have not yet found Tradition. And, most importantly, does it matter?View on YouTube: https://youtu.be/W6GqOnZWR_kSupport the SSPX Podcast with 1-time or Monthly Donation >>Questions with Father full series: https://sspxpodcast.com/digital-dangers/View all our episodes, including the Crisis in the Church Series >>Subscribe to the SSPX YouTube channel here >>SSPX News Website: https://fsspx.news/enVisit the US District website: https://sspx.org/en What is the SSPX Podcast? The SSPX Podcast is produced by Angelus Press, which has as its mission the fortification of traditional Catholics so that they can defend the Faith, and reaching out to those who have not yet found Tradition. Before the scientific discoveries of the late 19th century, most adherents of Catholicism and Protestantism believed that the earth and universe were 6000 years old, based on a chronology derived from the Bible. However, after the discovery of the radioactive behavior of atoms, developments in the study of geology, and accurate measurement of star distances provided solid scientific evidence for a universe and earth of an age in the billions of years, Catholic exegetes abandoned the idea that the earth was 6000 years old. Fundamentalist Protestants, however, clung to the idea that this was a teaching of the Bible, and seek to support their thesis by scientific evidence, by which they try to explain away the aforementioned discoveries.Fr. On today's episode of the SSPX Podcast, we continue our discussion from the last episode on Young Earth Creationism. As covered on the last episode, Catholics are not obligated to believe the earth or universe is 6,000 years old; it is not a question of faith. In this episode we examine more closely specific arguments which suggest that young-earth-creationism and geocentricism—a description of the universe that places earth at its center—are parts of the deposit of the Faith. In so doing, Fr. Paul Robinson helps Catholics further distinguish between what the Catholic Church teaches infallibly and scientific views of creation and the world which develop over time in the light of new research.View on YouTube: https://youtu.be/G7a9aHctvv4Support the SSPX Podcast with 1-time or Monthly Donation >>Questions with Father full series: https://sspxpodcast.com/digital-dangers/View all our episodes, including the Crisis in the Church Series >>Subscribe to the SSPX YouTube channel here >>SSPX News Website: https://fsspx.news/enVisit the US District website: https://sspx.org/en What is the SSPX Podcast? The SSPX Podcast is produced by Angelus Press, which has as its mission the fortification of traditional Catholics so that they can defend the Faith, and reaching out to those who have not yet found Tradition. On today's episode of the SSPX Podcast, we'll dive back into our Questions with Father episodes with a topic we touched on about 6 years ago: Young Earth Creationism. Many Catholics claim that it is doctrinal, and morally necessary to believe that the earth was created in a particular time, or in a particular way. In this episode and a following one to come later, Fr. Paul Robinson will lay out the Catholic perspective on not just this topic, but broadly, what a Catholic should believe in terms of Scripture and Science.View on YouTube: https://youtu.be/MCfWVzZ1nMoSupport the SSPX Podcast with 1-time or Monthly Donation >>Questions with Father full series: https://sspxpodcast.com/digital-dangers/View all our episodes, including the Crisis in the Church Series >>Subscribe to the SSPX YouTube channel here >>SSPX News Website: https://fsspx.news/enVisit the US District website: https://sspx.org/en What is the SSPX Podcast? The SSPX Podcast is produced by Angelus Press, which has as its mission the fortification of traditional Catholics so that they can defend the Faith, and reaching out to those who have not yet found Tradition. In vitro fertilization, or IVF, has been front and center in the news following the Alabama Supreme Court's ruling that embryos created through IVF are legally “children” for the purposes of that state's Wrongful Death of a Minor Act. In the wake of the decision, politicians, religious leaders, and laypeople who view themselves as “pro-life” have wrestled publicly with legal and practical questions surrounding IVF, including its availability. Catholics, for their part, know–or ought to know–that the Church opposes IVF, though many remain unsure as to why. If IVF assists couples in having children, is this not a good thing? What crucial moral issues does IVF raise and how should Catholics address them? In this timely episode, Fr. Ian Palko explains the mechanics of IVF while situating the procedure in a classical Catholic moral framework. He also stresses the importance of not separating procreation from its proper, marital context.
