It's Wembsday dose of Zosny, but Big Wos is a DNP, out with Draft prep. Clipped continues to deliver the messiest, soapiest programming on television as Donald Sterling is banned by the NBA in this episode. The Doc Rivers hero narrative gains major steam as he makes a crucial call to Adam Silver, gets called the 'perfect coach' and celebrates in the sauna with LeVar Burton. It's unclear whether we're supposed to have pity for V Stiviano, who stumbles through her famous Barbara Walters interview, but succeeds in adopting her two kids. Shelly Sterling, after much urging from her lawyers, comes out against Donald and petitions him for divorce, while also taking control of the sale of the team. Finally, after a locker room debate about the implications of the ban, the Clippers players are confronted by a fiery fake Draymond Green. #291: Back in 2014, leaked audio of L.A. Clippers owner Donald Sterling making racist comments caused a firestorm. There were calls for him to step down, for Clippers players to boycott their own games, and for the league to do something. Fairly quickly, the NBA did. But the story didn't end there. In 2019, a podcast series from ESPN's 30 for 30 called The Sterling Affairs explored how the whole saga went down with interviews with Clippers players, former coach Doc Rivers, and Shelly Sterling, Donald's wife. Now there's a new series called “Clipped” from FX and Hulu that's based on the podcast. "Clipped" writer/producer Rembert Browne (who also covered the story back in 2014 for Grantland) joined How To LA to talk about the significance of what went down a decade ago, and what it was like to turn the story into a TV series.
Donald and Shelly Sterling escaped poverty, reinvented themselves, and became the biggest residential landlords in LA. But in housing and basketball, they never had to face the consequences of their actions. This series was originally aired in 2019. We're re-releasing it in anticipation of the FX and Hulu series, Clipped, a six-part sports drama based on The Sterling Affairs. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

The final chapter in Donald Sterling's notorious stint as an NBA owner would never have happened without the assistance of the women in his life. In this conversation we focus on V. Stiviano and Shelly Sterling as central characters to this saga of money, betrayal, deceit, and ultimately, power. We also discuss who the real winners and losers were in this situation, as well as what it means for the NBA and Commissioner Adam Silver. This is Sports (Conversation) Without Borders...
