The Presiding Bishopric of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints works under the direction of the First Presidency to oversee the Church's temporal affairs — or physical aspects. Following Elder Gérald Caussé’s call to serve as the newest member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, the Church announced a new Presiding Bishopric on Nov. 14: Bishop W. Christopher Waddell as new presiding bishop, Bishop L. Todd Budge as first counselor and Bishop Sean Douglas as second counselor. The new bishopric joins Church News reporter Mary Richards on this episode of the Church News podcast to discuss the spiritual purpose of overseeing the temporal affairs of the Church. This includes managing tithing and fast offerings, humanitarian aid, welfare and self-reliance programs, building and maintaining meetinghouses and temples, and producing and distributing gospel resources. The Church News Podcast is a weekly podcast that invites listeners to make a journey of connection with members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints across the globe. Hosts Jon Ryan Jensen, editor of the Church News, and Church News reporter Mary Richards share unique views of the stories, events, and people who form this international faith. With each episode, listeners are asked to embark on a journey to learn from one another and ponder, “What do I know now?” because of the experience. Produced by KellieAnn Halvorsen.

Texas housing is shifting fast — and in this in-depth interview, Texas Realtors Vice President of Governmental Affairs Tray Bates breaks down the real forces driving prices, affordability, and policy debates across the state. We cover the post-COVID market cooldown, interest-rate shocks, short-term rentals, global capital flowing into Texas development, and the growing “missing middle” problem affecting first-time buyers.Bates also explains the legislative fights ahead: property-tax reform, permitting delays, lot-size requirements, infrastructure bottlenecks, and the strategic plan Texas Realtors will take into the 90th Legislature. We're going old school this week—straight to every millennial's favorite childhood battleground: the roller rink. Trevin kicks things off with a bizarre dream featuring Amanda, her husband, and a massive alligator. But when Dream Trevin tries to play hero, Real Trevin wakes up in a very familiar (and very painful) situation. Meanwhile, Amanda heads to a kid's birthday party at a roller rink. She shows up ready for nostalgia… but her mid-30s body is not ready to roll. Gravity absolutely has notes. Then it's time for Would You Rather. Amanda asks if you'd prefer a terrible-looking mugshot or a glamorous one where you're mid-sneeze. Trevin brings a year-end twist: would you rather every device you own insult you… or relive all of 2025 again? Amanda's story this week features a South Carolina teen who brings chaos to the rink—armed with confidence, questionable humor, and a water bottle full of cooking oil. Due to life being life, Trevin swaps his usual story for four headlines in what he calls his “Petty Black Mirror” segment. This week's petty tech tales include: • Facebook's underground sperm-selling groups and the petty drama inside Sperm Donors UK & Get Your Baby Dust Here. • An Ontario man tricked by ChatGPT into believing he'd discovered a world-saving breakthrough—sending him into psychosis. • The Kumma Bear, an AI-enabled teddy bear developing disturbing phrases and unsafe behaviors. • And an update to X's AI, Grok, that forces it to only compliment Elon Musk… leading trolls to prompt some very strange praise—including Elon's alleged skill of drinking pee. It's all fun-on-wheels meets dystopian tech weirdness this week. So lace up, log off, and join us for A Petty Skate of Affairs. “Practice these principles in all our affairs” — the line every alcoholic skips over until life smacks us in the face. This isn't about being perfect. It's about consistency. Anyone can be spiritual in a meeting. Anyone can be humble when life is going their way. But real recovery shows up at work, in traffic, in relationships, in conflict, in fear… In all our affairs means: • When we feel attacked • When we feel tired • When we don't want to be patient • When our ego is loud • When our character defects want the wheel It's taking spiritual actions even when we don't feel spiritual. Today we're talking about the REAL meaning of Step Twelve — living this program everywhere, not just where it's easy.

Corey Salsberg, one of the leading voices on intellectual property policy in the United States, joins Clause 8 to discuss surviving the anti-pharma activism of the last administration, why he's encouraged by the current administration's approach to patent policy, and even the scientific possibility of “resurrecting the woolly mammoth.”As Global Head of IP at Novartis, Salsberg has a unique vantage point on how legal uncertainty affects the future of healthcare innovations. His work testifying before Congress has placed him at the center of the debate over the Supreme Court's Mayo, Myriad, and Alice decisions — rulings that he thinks have been followed by years of instability around Section 101, threatening investment in critical biotech and diagnostic breakthroughs. The conversation explores the political landscape surrounding the Patent Eligibility Restoration Act (PERA), the persistence of myths like “patent thickets,” and the consequences of letting misinformation shape innovation policy. It also highlights what Congress can do to prevent the U.S. from falling behind in the race for gene and AI-driven therapeutics.Ultimately, Salsberg's perspective underscores how constructive, good-faith dialogue across industries remains essential to safeguarding innovation.

Jacqueline Newman is one of New York City's top divorce attorneys, renowned for her fierce advocacy, strategic clarity, and ability to guide high-net-worth individuals and power couples through difficult transitions with dignity and class. A sought-after speaker and author of "The 12 Secrets to Protecting Your Wealth, Health, and Happiness," Jacqueline combines sharp legal insight with genuine compassion, helping clients navigate the emotional and financial complexities of divorce. With a background influenced by her psychotherapist parents and decades of experience, she's redefined how divorces can be handled—championing communication, emotional intelligence, and smarter strategies for stronger outcomes. Takeaways: Divorce is about strategy, not emotion. Emotional intelligence—like self-awareness, empathy, and communication—plays a critical role in navigating both relationships and their endings. Communication breakdown is the number one reason for divorce. Failed expectations and outgrowing each other follow closely, with affairs often being a symptom rather than the root cause. Wealth complicates divorces due to liquidity and valuation challenges, but prenups can actually strengthen relationships by forcing transparent, difficult conversations about money and expectations. Sound Bites: "You could be as smart as a whip, but if you cannot communicate effectively with my clients in a way they can relate, it's not going to matter how intelligent you are." "Affairs are one of the big ones—it is so hurtful, but courts are just not interested unless there's money spent. It's a hard pill for many people to swallow." "Prenuptial agreements aren't just practical—they can actually be romantic, because they force couples to learn how to have difficult conversations and communicate honestly about money." Retailers who have sold children's coloured play sand potentially laced with asbestos need to be held to account, according to Labour's consumer Affairs spokesperson. ew reports dredge up the chaos of Andrew and Sarah Ferguson's early marriage — including claims Andrew saw more than a dozen women in year one, while Sarah and John Bryan allegedly carried on after-hours at Sunninghill Park. Freshly exposed emails show a journalist telling Jeffrey Epstein that Andrew “had consensual sex with [redacted],” a phrasing Epstein did not challenge.Meanwhile, palace insiders say Andrew is still living like nothing has changed: riding horses at Windsor, demanding silver-service dinners, crates of champagne for dwindling friends, and a full staff — all while the King and Waleses fume. He's ignored a request from U.S. lawmakers to testify, is reportedly considering selling off personal memorabilia for cash, and remains furious over his daughters' lost security. As one insider put it: “His world has collapsed, but he's still acting like the man of the manor.”Hear our new show "Crown and Controversy: Prince Andrew" here.Check out "Palace Intrigue Presents: King WIlliam" here.
