On this episode of Conduct Detrimental: THE Sports Law Podcast, Dan Lust (@SportsLawLust) is joined by Tarun Sharma (@tksharmalaw) to break down the only story anyone's talking about this week: the NBA's twin gambling scandals...including what they mean for the league, its leadership, and the future of sports integrity.Dan and Tarun talk the FBI's dual indictments involving current NBA players and coaches, including Terry Rozier and Chauncey Billups, and why the feds may have intentionally linked the “inside betting” and “mob poker” operations to send a message directly to the league. The duo unpacks the alleged role of organized crime, how player data triggered suspicious betting alerts, and why the NBA's initial decision to “clear” Rozier may come back to haunt Commissioner Adam Silver. They revisit the echoes of the Tim Donaghy scandal and debate whether this could force a true reckoning on gambling oversight in pro sports. Plus, Dan argues that this moment may finally be the “truth serum” that leagues can't sweep under the rug. Then, the duo touch on the NCAA's last-minute reversal of its new betting policy allowing college athletes to wager on pro sports—spurred by the timing of the NBA's scandals and pushback from SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey. They discuss how NIL-era agents and crossover access to information could further complicate things for both college and pro leagues. To close, Dan drops his “bet of the week,” explaining why Justin Herbert at +3500 for NFL MVP might be the most mispriced line on the board. What to Watch For: Tarun highlights LSU's multi-million-dollar Brian Kelly buyout and how skyrocketing coaching payouts are driving private equity interest in college athletics. Dan recommends Hulu's Chad Powers and reminds listeners: if you see a great Halloween costume, tell them you get the reference.Let us know your thoughts!***Have a topic you want to write about? BT & Sal go off on the deepening NBA gambling scandal, focusing on the jaw-dropping report that sportsbooks flagged Terry Rozier's irregular betting activity on the day of his "faked injury," and yet the NBA cleared him in its own investigation. They argue the true crisis isn't gambling itself, but the league's integrity, calling out Commissioner Adam Silver as a "horrendous" and "weak" leader for minimizing the issue and potentially looking the other way. The hosts demand answers for how the NBA's probe failed where the FBI succeeded, cementing the belief that the league only acted after federal authorities intervened. They also discuss the separate accusations against Chauncey Billups and Damon Jones, concluding that multiple individuals, coupled with the league's alleged complacency and cover-up, make this a disaster for the credibility of the sport.

Only one hour tonight, but there's still a lot to unpack from yesterday's gambling investigation arrests. After hearing from Adam Silver earlier in the week, the NBA commissioner might've known this domino was going to drop and now has the task of fixing it. Then, only nine games in, but its getting dangerously close for the Bruins to pack everything in and start a new without Don Sweeney. And, with the World Series starting tonight, the game of baseball would benefit greatly from a repeat by the Dodgers.
Bill opened the show by reacting to the latest updates from the NBA illegal gambling scandal and highlighted why the onus is on commissioner Adam Silver to fix this. Bill then took calls on how the NBA should handle crisis and if prop bets should be banned before explaining why he doesn't believe that LeBron James has anything to do with this. Hour two kicked off with Bill chatting with You Better You Bet host Nick Kostos about his reaction to the gambling scandal before diving into Buy or Sell, where Bill answered if Aaron Rodgers needs a win more than the Packers and if the Blue Jays will win either Game 1 or Game 2 of the World Series. The show ended with Bill crowning the Bum of the Week.
CP “The Fanchise” is joined by Front Office Sports reporter Ben Horney — who was in the room at the FBI press conference — to break down the federal cases that name Chauncey Billups, Terry Rozier, and Damon Jones in alleged gambling and insider information schemes. We get into how the investigations work, why the Feds are treating the sportsbooks as “victims,” why the NBA reportedly “cleared” certain players who were still arrested, and whether this has now become Adam Silver's biggest crisis as commissioner. Then we pivot to Knicks basketball: Knicks start the year 1–0, Celtics are coming to MSG, and the Mike Brown era is already showing a totally different vibe from Tom Thibodeau — even with early injuries to Mitchell Robinson, Josh Hart, OG Anunoby, and Karl-Anthony Towns. We talk rotations, depth, Deuce McBride, and whether this Knicks team is truly built for June.Subscribe, rate, review, and tap in with the #1 show for the fans, by the fans.Support the show
BT & Sal go off on the NBA's escalating gambling scandal, tearing into the league's handling of the Terry Rozier case and demanding commissioner Adam Silver break his silence. They dissect the fundamental corruption of prop betting, arguing it's the easiest avenue for players to fix games and is a greater threat to integrity than steroids or the Astros' cheating. The hosts debate whether the FBI's timing was a politically motivated "photo op" and discuss what penalties—including voiding contracts—are necessary to deter future corruption. Plus, they briefly break down the Knicks' home opener win against the Cavaliers, questioning if the team looks truly different under new head coach Mike Brown and what it means for the Jalen Brunson/Karl-Anthony Towns core.
