The No Good, Very Bad Words. Every week we rewrite our content warning because we're required somehow to warn people that we use profanity and sometimes talk about the immense size of horse penises. At the same time, folks are bumbling about their everyday lives using terrible words that we find more offensive than all […]
Consider yourself warned. In this bonus episode (specially dropped for International Women's Day) Megs and I will be exploring that most polarising of words - Cunt. Never ones to back down from an expletive - we take the time to actually research where the word came from, (25th century BC folks!!) why it's got such a bad rap in recent centuries, (hello the patriachy demonising women's sexuality, and seeking to control us and treat us as property), and make our arguments for bringing it back out of the dark ages (and recesses), and put it back on the menu of words to be used to celebrate women, womanhood, female power and sexual liberation. Special mention to contributor Skylar Marie Gray - Comedian who shares the many names for the Cunt in her fabulous scottish accent (definitely upping our global appeal) ,and a nod to fellow podcaster and lover of 'salty language' - Matt Fidler - host of "Very Bad Words" - who in his episode on the word - did a lot more lofty research than Megs and myself! https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/very-bad-words/id1097614316 https://www.youtube.com/shorts/MztdLHkWbeM https://www.facebook.com/SkylarGrayComedian/

Sci-fi fantasy worlds often use constructed languages (or conlangs for short) as a worldbuilding tool that can make us believe the characters come from an ancient or alien culture. But art can take on a life of its own once it's released into the world -- and so do languages. Marc Okrand, inventor of the Klingon language, and David J. Peterson, inventor of the Dothraki language and The 100's Trigedasleng, talk about the surprises they encountered. I also talk with Lawrence M. Schoen of the Klingon Language Institute and Robyn Stewart, the language consultant for Star Trek: Discovery, about why the Klingon culture spilled over into the real world. And Jen Usellis -- a.k.a. Klingon Pop Warrior -- will give you a serious case of earworms, and we're not talking about the mind-controlling earworms from Star Trek II. For years comedians in comedy clubs have been pushing the lines of what could be said in the public arena. Lenny Bruce was arrested multiple times for doing just that, and George Carlin was immortalized for same thing just a decade later. But swearing just isn't that controversial anymore - especially in a comedy club. But never-the-less, there are still plenty of comedians actively crossing the lines in comedy today. On this episode of Very Bad Words, we talk to several of them.Guests: Dante Nero PJ Landers Adam Glyn Joe Larson Von Decarlo Jen Matascio Christian Duran Tamer Cattan See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Very Bad Words is the podcast about swearing and taboo language. On this episode we explore the origins of one of the oldest swear words in the English language, shit.
