Welcome to Bronzeville a corner of Chicago ran by African Americans for the betterment of the African Americans back in the 1940’s.Bronzeville was a place where African Americans could prosper. They had this thing called “Running The Numbers” which in today’s world we’d call the Lottery. This week we’re traveling to a hidden city in the darkest, deepest reaches of the Pacific Ocean to a Utopian society. Brought to us by Christof Laputka this is The Leviathan Chronicles. An audio drama that although has never been completed is in my top five I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. The Leviathan Chronicles tells the stories of Immortal beings trapped in a civil war and how a young genetic scientist named Macallan Orsel is trapped between who she was led to believe she was and who she truly is. She must navigate the water per say to find who and what she really is and decide how she is going to better society as we know it and the society of immortals that she comes to learn about. We all have heard of James Bond the famous 007. Some of us growing up pretended to be him but for some it’s a lifestyle. So this week we’re talking I SPY. I SPY is a podcast told by a SPY each episode about one mission they had a hand in. Things like this are becoming more common as more documents are being declassified it’s allowing the real James Bonds to come out of the shadows and tell parts of their career to the masses and this is what makes this podcast one of my new favorites. This week we’re talking about This is War. This is War is an extremely raw cut into you guessed it War. War has been apart of my country since I can remember. Helicopters being shot down, nightly updates on deaths overseas and so many more devastating and life changing moments for so many where I live and across the globe. Growing up I always figured I’d maybe someday join the military though I did not, I still am curious about it. What’s it really like over there? What’s it like to know today is my last day alive and then somehow you end up coming home 6 months later? What drove this person to join the military over another, and really what drove someone to stay after their first contract was up? But the big question I’ve recently been asking myself is how do they cope with it all when it’s done and said. These questions get answered in This is War. It’s RAW, it’s real and honestly it’s fucking emotional just listening. Set 17 years after the events of the original We’re Alive a world some of this installment characters have lived their entire life in the aftermath of the story we’ve already heard. These survivors never knew the world we do and the ones that do remember that have grown and changed since the original outbreak. Goldrush is best described by Kc Wayland himself as a “Recollection” story. Told by some of my favorite survivors from the original story Goldrush tells us of a time back during the original story the soldiers went rogue in hopes of gold and glory and found so much more. The thing I found odd at first about Goldrush was that instead of really expanding the world we expand characters. Instead of focusing on wars with mallers or other survivors in Goldrush we focus on the emotional aspect of these characters as they rely the history of Anthony Robbins to his son Alex all through the memory of now General Puck.
