We kick off 2025 with a 2 for 1. Allen continues to make excuses for Anthony Richardson and I lose my mind over Cam Ward's decision to sit out the second half of the pop tart bowl. Then the crew shows up and we get into recapping our holidays and the heartbeaking end to another fantasy football season. Jeff also makes us aware that Jimmy Butler was suspended so we discuss possible landing spots and much more.
0:00 - The Avalanche had an all-time instant classic thrilling win last night. And yet, the story of the game was Benson's collision with Wedgewood and the goal that followed. Bednar usually keeps his cool, but he was (rightfully) fired up in his postgame press conference. 19:46 - What happens if, god forbid we even speak this out loud, the Broncos lose to the Chiefs on Sunday and miss the playoffs?34:40 - Notre Dame smacked around Georgia last night so...sigh...let's give Vic a chance to take a victory lap.
Shaun Bijani, Patrick Creighton, and producer Chris Santiago go through their week 16 picks and share who won this weeks Beers and Bad Words!

ITL Hour 2 - Shaun Bijani and Patrick Creighton power rank the Houston Texans amongst the rest of the league, go through the 'Hot Leads', and talk Astros and Rockets with Adam Spolane. ITL Hour 3 - Shaun Bijani and Patrick Creighton discuss Christian Walker being introduced, Dana Brown's comments on Alex Bregman, find out who won this weeks Beers and Bad Words, AND try to decide if what happened in last night's 76ers-Spurs game is good for the league. In this delightfully salty episode, language and PAC expert Amy Showalter joins the Facts About PACs crew to drop truth bombs about the words and phrases we should all retire in 2025. From the eye-roll-inducing "going forward" to the overused "historic," no corporate buzzword or political cliché is safe from Showalter's witty critique. Listen as hosts Micaela Isler, David Schild, and Adam Belmar navigate this verbal minefield with humor and insight.

This sermon series is all about learning to use our words according to God's design. The Bible teaches that your ability to speak isn't just for you, but for others through you. In this message, Pastor Jamie Nunnally talks about ugly words. Ugly words are harmful words that hurt others and reveal the poison in our own hearts.James 3:8 ESV but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.God wants to give your words authority. But why would He give weight to your words if you use ugly words instead of useful words? Examples of ugly words:Complaining, criticizing, accusing, blaming, insulting, judging, gossip, sarcasm, self-deprecation, etc. How to fix ugly words:1. Pause.Silence adds significance to what you say.James 1:19 NLT "Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry."You don't have to have an opinion on everything. Some people have something to say, other people just want to say something."Everything that is said must be true, but not everything that is true must be said." 2. Perceive.Lamentations 3:40 "Let us test and examine our ways, and return to the Lord!"If you'll watch your thoughts, you won't have to watch your mouth as much.Ugly words are often caused by emotional inflammation – anger, disappointment, fear, or frustration - which is a reaction to a wound to your heart.Psalm 139:23-24 NLT "Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. [cares] ..." 3. Purify.Isaiah 6:5 NASB "Then I said, 'Woe is me, for I am ruined! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I live among a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.'"Being in the presence of God made Isaiah immediately aware of his ugly words.Submitting your speech to the creator of speech is the quickest way to tame your tongue. Have you ever considered the difference between a scalpel and a shiv? They're both sharp, they're both made with the intention of cutting someone, but one is intended to save a life, while the other is intended to take a life. The scalpel has been carefully sterilized, the shiv is covered in contaminants. One has been manufactured to precise specifications, the other has been hastily created from repurposed items from the past. The scalpel is found in a hospital, where doctors and nurses are trying help others, while a shiv is found in a prison where people are trying to hurt others. If you're still shackled by your sin or imprisoned by your past, your words will be a shiv. The truth can cut sometimes, but its intended to be a scalpel that brings life, not a shiv that brings death. Are you speaking ugly words?

Good pickleball, and the best pickleball you'll ever play, is built upon a foundation of sound FUNDAMENTALS.I was reminded of the 'imagined' bad word, fundamentals, during a pro level match that I was watching because as pickleball players we often shy away from that word and dismiss it as only applicable for beginners. The truth is, executing everything really well, including those fundamentals, is what separates pro players from the other teams that they play against is their focus on the fundamentals. A good example of those pro players is Anna Leigh Waters and Catherine Parenteau who I believe are the strongest pro team right now in terms of everything that they do from beginning to end, including the fundamentals. They don't take a shot off, execute everything really well and they're very good at every part of the game. That is what separates them from the other teams that they play against. Now to the idea of an actual bad word that I discuss in this episode; if you have this attitude at the end of a tough game where you make statements to demean or diminish the other player, I would challenge you to put yourself in the shoes of your opponents. Have some empathy and think about it through their eyes. How to learn more about our upcoming course: ThePickleballsystem.comTo sign up for our Virtual Clinic: BetterPickleball.com (click at the top header)To join us for our Pickleball Therapy live podcast:, send us an email to support@BetterPickleball.com and put in the Subject Line: "Therapist live"

We've all been there, knee-deep in old records and family stories, when we suddenly hit a snag. Not just any snag, but one caused by the sneaky little words we should've avoided from the start. Think of them as the “bloopers” in our genealogy journey, those pesky terms that trip us up and send us down rabbit holes. Today, we're diving into the world of these genealogy pitfalls and how to sidestep them gracefully. And trust me, these tips aren't just for genealogy—these words can throw a wrench in any research! The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 3: 5:05pm- Hank Berrien of The Daily Wire writes: “Anti-Israel demonstrators brandishing Palestinian flags and a sign that read ‘Genocide Olympics' reportedly chanted ‘Heil Hitler' and did the Nazi salute while the Israeli national anthem was played before the Israeli men's soccer team played Paraguay at the Paris Olympics on Saturday night.” You can read the full article here: https://www.dailywire.com/news/anti-israel-demonstrators-chant-heil-hitler-do-nazi-salute-taunting-israeli-olympic-team 5:10pm- Kamala Pledged to Keep Transgender Criminals Out of Prison: Spencer Lindquist of The Daily Wire writes: “During her 2020 presidential campaign, Vice President Kamala Harris pledged that she would work to keep transgender criminals out of jail, archived campaign materials reviewed by The Daily Wire reveal. Harris' now-inactive campaign website claims that ‘the LGBTQ+ community is exposed to higher rates of violence and assault in prison, and it is even more so with transgender individuals.' Harris, it says, would work as president to ‘reduce incarceration of LGBTQ+ individuals. Kamala understands the best way to address the issue is to seek alternatives to incarceration to prevent trans individuals from being incarcerated in the first place,' the site reads. ‘Kamala would also push to significantly reform our sentencing laws to further reduce sentences.'” You can read the full article here: https://www.dailywire.com/news/kamala-harris-once-pledged-to-keep-transgender-people-out-of-prison-as-president?topStoryPosition=1 5:15pm- Please Pick Me! While speaking on behalf of Kamala Harris' presidential campaign, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro exclaimed: “I've got a message to Donald Trump—stop sh** talking America.” In recent days, Shapiro has seemingly swung wildly to the left in attempting to appeal to Harris as a Vice Presidential pick. If he isn't ultimately selected, will his perception as a “moderate” be irreversibly damaged? Interestingly, of the Vice Presidential contenders, Mark Kelly enjoys the highest net favorability rating—is it a coincidence that he's also the only contender not regularly appearing on television or at rally's saying outlandish things to appease Harris' campaign? 5:40pm- Senator Roger Marshall—United States Senator from Kansas & a Member of the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss today's Senate hearing with Secret Service Acting Director Ronald Rowe and FBI Deputy Director Paul Abbate regarding the assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump in Butler, PA on July 13th. Sen. Marshall explains, “I'm pretty frustrated” with the answers they provided provided—“we need to bring in a crisis intervention team” and “clean house.” Plus, Sen. Marshall reacts to the U.S. national debt surpassing $35 trillion—with interest payments on that debt quickly approaching $1 trillion annually.

What does it mean to claim translation as an artform unto itself? In episode 76 of the Podcast for Social Research, recorded live at BISR Central while a wicked Nor'easter raged outside, BISR welcomed Ugly Duckling Presse, Barricade journal, and the Leipzig/Vienna-based collective TRANSLETTING for an evening of presentations and panel discussion addressed to the ethics, politics, and embodied practice of literary translation in the 21st century. With Walter Benjamin's “Task of the Translator” (1923) and Sawako Nakayasu's Say Translation Is Art (Ugly Duckling Presse, 2020) as historical and theoretical bookends, the cast—including BISR's Lauren K. Wolfe, Ugly Duckling Presse Manager Marine Cornuet, and the TRANSLETTING collective (check out their bios below)—talked its way through Nakayasu's playful politico-poetical wager (say translation is unfaithful, is performance, repetition, failure, process, collaboration, feminism, polyphony, conversation, deviance, decolonial, punk, and improvisation) and, from there, explored the word as a contingent unit of meaning and value by way of Ilse Aichinger's Bad Words, in a translation by poets Uljana Wolf and Christian Hawkey. The ensuing conversation touched upon all manner of things—from good words to wrong ones; the pleasures of infidelity; how power is borne in the space between an original and its translations; the meaning-bearing unit of language (a word, a comma, a syllable, syntax, a poem, a book, alternative structures of literature?); markets and reading publics; a translator's responsibility—to whom? to what?; identity and its vicissitudes; and much else besides. The TRANSLETTING collective includes: Konstantin Schmidtbauer, writer and translator; Mücahit Türk, writer; Jonë Zhitia, writer, translator, and editor; Nadja Etinski, writer, historian, and editor; Leonie Pürmayr, writer and editor; and Anile Tmava, writer, editor, and anthropologist.
