The discourse presented in this episode centers on the intricate relationship between faith and the utilization of language, specifically focusing on the concepts of cursing, cussing, and the telling of risqué jokes. The panel, comprising Joshua, TJ, and their esteemed guests, including Josh Patterson, Ryan Does, and Pastor Will Rose, delve into how one's faith influences their linguistic choices and the broader implications of these choices on communal flourishing. It is posited that the manner in which we express ourselves can either contribute to or detract from the well-being of those around us. In examining these aspects, the conversation invites listeners to reflect on the necessity of intentionality in their speech, advocating for language that uplifts rather than undermines. Ultimately, this episode serves as a profound exploration of the power of words within the context of faith and community.A profound exploration unfolds as Joshua and TJ, accompanied by esteemed guests Josh Patterson, Ryan Does, and Pastor Will Rose, delve into the intricate relationship between faith and the language we employ, particularly in the realms of cursing and humor. Drawing upon scriptural references, notably Paul's epistles, the discourse navigates the delicate balance between personal expression and the potential ramifications of our words on others. The participants engage in a deeply reflective dialogue regarding the ethical implications of language, emphasizing that our utterances should not only reflect our convictions but also promote the flourishing of those around us. The conversation elucidates how cursing, while often dismissed as trivial, intersects with our moral frameworks and communal bonds, urging listeners to reconsider the weight of their words in light of their faith. Furthermore, the episode poses critical questions about the nature of offensive language and its place within religious contexts, challenging listeners to examine their own practices and beliefs. Ultimately, this episode serves as both a call to introspection and a guide to navigating the complexities of language in a manner that aligns with a faith-driven life.Engaging in a candid and reflective discourse, this episode of The Whole Church Podcast tackles the intricate dynamics of language, cursing, and humor, as Joshua and TJ are joined by their esteemed guests. The conversation traverses the intersection of faith and language, examining how our verbal expressions can either align with or contradict our spiritual convictions. Through a thoughtful analysis of scriptural teachings, particularly those of the Apostle Paul, the participants grapple with the moral implications of swearing and the use of crude humor. They emphasize the importance of fostering an environment where language promotes flourishing, rather than sowing division or harm. The episode prompts listeners to critically evaluate their own language practices, encouraging them to engage in conversations that reflect their values while being sensitive to the diverse contexts in which they communicate. As the discussion unfolds, it becomes clear that language is not merely a tool for expression, but a powerful medium that shapes our interactions and our faith communities, calling for intentionality and grace in our communications.Takeaways: In discussing the use of language, we must consider how our words can either uplift or harm others, reflecting the essence of our faith. The concept of cursing extends beyond mere profanity; intention behind our words is paramount in determining their impact on others. As we enter the fifth year of our podcast, we are so, so grateful to all of our listeners for their time and support. This particular episode is dedicated to Sean, a listener whose support has helped us through some very rough times over the years. Since our pod started off with a review of the Return of the Living Dead franchise, we thought it would be appropriate to celebrate our fifth year by reviewing another zombie movie. We reached out to Sean and asked him to help us decide which movie to review, and we landed on... well, a movie with many, many titles, (Don't Open the Window, Let Sleeping Corpses Lie, No Profanar el Sueño de los Muertos, 悪魔の墓場 and much more) but possibly best known in the U.S. as THE LIVING DEAD AT MANCHESTER MORGUE (1974)! This movie from director Jorge Grau is streaming on Shudder as of this episode's release, and we absolutely encourage everyone to give it a watch ahead of listening to our review. And speaking of zombie-centric media, our host Jacob's debut novel THE CHANGE is on sale now from Oddity Prodigy Productions! This tale of hope, zombies, and rock & roll can be ordered wherever you get your books, but here's the link for it on Bookshop: https://bookshop.org/p/books/the-change/d2beab56340d82cb?ean=9781733393850 If you'd like to follow us on social media, you can visit our Linktree page (linked below) but we've also listed some of our social media handles: Linktree: linktr.ee/scarystuff Official site: scarystuffpodcast.com Twitter: @scarystuffpod Instagram: @scarystuffpodcast Letterboxd: @scarystuffpod Incredibly Niche Merch: teepublic.com/user/scary-stuff-podcast You can find a list of all the previous movies we've reviewed and their corresponding episodes (via the "Read Notes" option) here: http://www.letterboxd.com/scarystuffpod/list/all-reviews-scary-stuff-podcast/ And as always, thanks so much for listening!

This episode begins by attempting to tackle some bigger questions about religion, belief, and spirituality. I share some different approaches to analysing religion using thinkers like Talal Asad and Émile Durkheim, in order to explore concepts like ‘religion' itself and the ‘sacred' and ‘profane'. I also consider Indigenous Reflections on Christianity to explore the tensions and compromises with religion (Christianity) and Indigenous peoples, including ideas from Vine Deloria Jr. and John Trudell. The second half of this episode focuses in on the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mainstream Mormonism; Latter-day Saints) and Indigenous peoples. This section is a response and extension to the Red Nation's Unsettling Mormonism's episode from a few years ago. I seek to highlight Indigenous scholars who have been and continue to interrogate questions at the intersection of Mormon and Indigenous Studies (see list below). I conclude with an introduction to some of my own analyses of “Lamanites” (Mormonism's category of 'New World' Indigeneity). I position Mormonism and Indigeneity within larger structures and colonial contexts drawing from the articles A Divine Rebellion, and Pedro and Pita Built Peter Priesthood's Mansion and Now They Work the Grounds.   Terms: Religion, Spiritual, Cult/us/ure, Collective Effervescence, Profane, Sacred.   Intellectuals who explore Indigeneity, race, and 'Lamanites' in Mormon Studies: Elise Boxer, Farina King, Gina Colvin, P. BULLETIN: SEASON 3 EPISODE 141. TRUMP'S PROFANE, INSANE RANT Donald Trump's limited tether to reality has snapped this morning and he must be removed from office, by his own party, first via the 25th Amendment and then by Impeachment. Even as individuals as far from being anti-Trump as Speaker of the House Johnson and Pennsylvania Congressman Scott Perry have said, live, on networks like Fox and CNN, that Iran's nuclear capacity was obviously not fully destroyed in Trump's undeclared war against Iran, he has now raged against the networks, against Israel, and against Iran - because reality is not doing what he is telling it to. After a session with the press that was disturbing even for him, Trump then went aboard Air Force One and began to struggle (again, well beyond his usual struggle) to locate certain words and even repeat words just said to him. Asked about possible Iran "sleeper cells" he raged against "super cells." Trump is a lethal, imminent, clear and present danger to the life of everybody on this planet. He cannot continue in office.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Magic Island Storytelling Theatre: Strange Tales From The Isle Of Arran: Ghost & fairy tales & more.

I've written a lot of things over the years, many dramas for the BBC and Wireless Theatre Company, a smattering for Big Finish, and now a whole decades' worth of epic productions for Audible, many of them performed by some of the famous people imaginable - no nonsense movie stars, indeed. But still, such is the nature of my career and my body of work, the piece that means most to me is the one that's found least of an audience. This is my novel Dances Sacred & Profane, my most personal work, which I tentatively published on Kindle but never did much to publicize, most of all because it was so personal, a deeper revelation of the person and the artist that I am, and the more of an audience I drew to it, the more I feared some callous online remark, or cluster of such, that would wound me deeply: in many ways DSP is as personal as a diary - of myself at a certain crucial moment in my life, certainly. But that moment is past and so now I feel the confidence to perform the story myself here and see if it doesn't find a wider audience. It's an unusual story, seeking the more unusual listener: though it's a kind of sequel to a classic vampire story (I won't say which at this stage, as it would give too much away), it's essentially sui generis, by no means a fangs-and-coffin blood-and-thunder shocker, having strong elements of historical novel and romance and plays freely back and forth between these generic levels in a non-generic way. Here's chapter one (this is going to take some time), but if you want to read the whole thing in one go, here's a link to the book itself -https://www.amazon.co.uk/DANCES-SACRED-PROFANE-Gothic-Romance-ebook/dp/B00858QERM/ref=sr_1_1?crid=618EPBGMNR0B&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.sWZuRZQE4S13Q2JvUdAfhg.T8Q93Ja8uUlMxuz2WAUEHKXAMAIbJsQ-xHantlcPOyc&dib_tag=se&keywords=dances+sacred+and+profane+marty+ross&qid=1746793289&s=digital-text&sprefix=dances+sacred+and+profane+marty+ross%2Cdigital-text%2C67&sr=1-1Also, make allowances for my voice - the narrating character is female and should ideally be performed by a female actor, but I couldn't ask such an actor to make the kind of long term unpaid commitment this is going to require, so please make imginative allowances.

The Stephen A. Smith and LeBron altercation that took place at the Knicks-Lakers game is starting to get out of hand. LeBron allegedly reprimanded Stephen A., telling him to stop “f**k**g” with his son on national television. Stephen A., however, went on "Gil's Arena," the podcast of former NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas, and completely blasted LeBron for approaching him the way he did. Despite dubbing himself the "straight shooter," Stephen A., who also is the face of ESPN , is cussing up a storm when ranting about what went down between the “King” and himself. Jason questions why many Democrats are presenting themselves with this ghetto persona using profanity-laced language. Not just Stephen A., but James Carville and Jasmine Crockett are also following suit. It's no surprise that Matt Barnes' contribution to this dilemma was to take to his podcast, “All the Smoke,” and talk about how for him "it's' always on site." This ghetto mentality is sweeping the nation and converting masculinity into femininity. Men are supposed to have emotional control, yet more and more people fall victim to this pandemic. Delano Squires joins the conversation to weigh in on the lack of emotional control from the Left. There has been a moral decay of culture for the last five decades, in the way we dress, act, and present ourselves. These are all symptoms of a much bigger problem. On Conclave. In our final episode of the year, we debate Edgar Berger's new film about a Papal election, featuring Ralph Fiennes and Stanley Tucci as Cardinals and Isabella Rossellini as a nun. Is the film about an alien, abstruse process – the conclave – or is it about something familiar and earthly? Is the film about the sacred or the profane? About temporal or holy power? What does it say about process and neutrality, in times of lawfare and contested elections? Why is there so much film and TV about the Pope? What is it that appeals today about Papal authority? The film features a good liberal, a corrupt moderate, a nasty reactionary, a tainted idpol candiate (a homophobic African) – do these politics matter? Why so crude? Is it mere Oscar bait?
