TW: Suicide and Mental Health Illness Did you know September is Suicide Prevention Month?NATIONAL SUIDICE HOTLINE: 1-800-273-8255Well it is and in 2020 I think we are all seeing the impact of how are daily lives changing impacts our mental health. Loss of jobs, relationships, and sense of hopelessness are just a few factors that impact our mental health. Another component that many of us are facing is shared trauma! This looks like continuously watching Black People die due to police brutality, seeing the violence done to Trans-Black Women, death due to COVD-19, attacks on immigrations policies, and the list goes on.Personally, social media has helped me keep in the loop of all that has happened! But it has also been one of the causes of my stress because we are so connected. It is okay to take a break and take a step back.In this episode we discuss warning signs for suicide and ways social media impacts our mental health. If you or someone you know is struggling please call the:NATIONAL SUIDICE HOTLINE: 1-800-273-8255American Foundation for Suicide PreventionThe Depression ProjectLeave a comment on Instagram @asiwassatingpodcast.Website: www.shewillspeak.comIG: @shewillspeakIG: @asiwassayingpodcastTwitter: @shesjustche
This week I had the pleasure of interviewing one of my good friends Johnathan J. Azar on As I Was Saying... Podcast. We spoke about his first book 100 Days on Earth and dived into some of his most popular pieces in the book. We also touched on the relationship between faith and pain and how our individual culture and experiences many times manifest in our work. Inspired by the pantheon of poets from the Middle East and beyond, Johnathan J. Azar assumes a philosophical posture as he approaches themes such as faith, struggle, and purpose through poetry. He first published his debut poetry collection, "100 Days on Earth" in July 2019 and launched it at New York City Poetry Festival. This weeks episode was a recording of passion and a cry for HELP!Help to dismantle a system that consistently kills Black Lives and then allows their murderers to walk away. Over the course of this week we have seen numerous names come to life that have been covered due to lack of justice and media attention. These name include:Nina PopBreonna TaylorAhmaud Abrery Sean Reed And of course these are only the names we know of...and that is the sad part. All of these listed murders took weeks, some even months for the general public to learn about. It took public outcry, posting, calling, anger, tears for SOME of these cases to be given their day in court. This episode is addressing the same conversation that we have when someone is killed because of the color of their skin. It also touches on my personal perspective as far as the conversations we need to be having more of and the actions we need to be taking.Thank you again for listening! Hey Family,So I would be wrong to not have mentioned in this episode the crisis and hardship happening internationally with COVID-19. This pandemic has been medically and financially hard on numerous individuals and I will share pages and websites on my social networks that may add in support. With many...or all my events being canceled I decided to spend the first few days of my time doing a deep cleaning. I stumbled upon some items that sparked moments that made me recognize the wall many of us have in our lives. I took a step back and recognized that I needed to let the baggage of my past go. Hey! Its your host Cheyenne Tyler Jacobs...so for those of you who do not know Season 3 of On My Block came out on Netflix and people went insane. Folks were worried and still are worried if a Season 4 would even be coming! So you know I could not wait and watched and one night and let me just say I have never cried so much for a series show. Movies? Yes. TV shows...No. From the character reveals and turns to Laundry Days song at the end Friends. I posted a tweet highlighting this seasons mirroring of life events and not to brag but it has been going semi-viral. Tweet can be found on my Twitter @shesjustche and I tweeted: "#OnMyBlock really has me contemplating life and my emotional attachment to the show. Like the ending wasn't an escape as much as a mirror to life itself. That song at end had me in my bag like I can't y'all. Welcome to the first episode of "As I Was Saying..." Podcast this episode was kind of done on the fly but thats how most of my choices are made. Today we touched base on why I started this podcast, who I am, and what you can expect from me. From there we moved into the topic that made me just start the podcast and that was reading a BuzzFeed article about Beatrice Dixon's, Target ad for her company Honey Pot Co. I was so taken away by the commentary on her ad that a discussion was created under my platform the She Will Speak Series. It got me thinking on Black Women owned business and how we continue to disrespect them and having a business myself this was something I could not hold anymore. So this episode was born!If you like I would suggest you follow for more awesome podcasts that are going to come your way. Also...I am so rude!
