He watched the show with his daughters, and what stood out was not just modeling or fashion. Carolyn did not want Tyra to enter adulthood ignorant, ashamed, or unprepared. That meant frank talks about sex, periods, modeling, business, self-worth, and how to handle a world that would constantly try to define her.A major theme of the conversation is preparation. When Tyra chose Paris Fashion Week over college, Carolyn told her that the choice was hers—but if she was going to model, she had to treat it like a business. She had to study designers the way she had studied for the SAT. She had to understand the industry, the clients, the aesthetics, and the opportunities before she got on the plane.That preparation became one of Tyra's biggest advantages. Athletes train their bodies every day, but how often do they train their minds? In this episode of The Gametime Guru Podcast, I sit down with Tyra Rickman, former collegiate basketball player, counselor, coach, and founder of Rickman Health and Wellness, to talk about one of the most important topics in sports today: athlete mental health.
