From Burnout to Balance: How God Restores What We Surrender with Vivian Cumins!

Friend, if you've been feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, or like you're carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders, this conversation is for you! We're wrapping up a special week on the Anchored by the Sword Podcast! Earlier this week, I had the privilege of talking with Stephanie Esposito, co-host of Salted on Abundant TV, and today I'm joined by her co-host, Vivian Cumins. I love that each one shares a unique story of God's faithfulness and restoration.Vivian's story is one that so many of us will relate to. For years, she believed perfection was the goal. She excelled in her career, poured herself into ministry, and gave everything she had to everyone around her. But underneath all the accomplishments was a woman who was physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually exhausted.Eventually, everything came crashing down. Vivian shares the moment she found herself lying on her living room floor, completely depleted, crying out to God because she simply couldn't keep going. And that's where everything began to change. In the middle of her darkest season, God whispered words that would become the foundation of her healing:"Hold on. I will restore you."Through surrender, a wilderness season, and even a battle with melanoma, Vivian discovered that restoration isn't about going back to who we used to be. It's about becoming who God originally created us to be.We also talk about her two books, Break Down Better and A Better Way, where she encourages burned-out women to slow down, heal from the inside out, and rediscover God's design for balanced living.Vivian's reminder that God never intended for us to strive ourselves into sickness. He created us for relationship, not relentless performance.Friend, if you're running on empty today, hear this:You don't have to earn your rest.God is inviting you into it.If you've ever struggled with perfectionism, burnout, anxiety, overcommitting, or believing your worth is tied to your productivity, I pray this episode reminds you that God never asked you to carry it all.Bio:A small-town girl from Chickasha, Oklahoma, Vivian Cumins is the author of Break Down Better: 52 Restoring Devotionals for Burned-Out Women, and A Better Way! The Break Down Better Guided Journal, co-host of Salted, the hottest new women's television talk show on Abundant TV, and the host of the Juggling Life, Finding Balance Podcast. A retired career professional with over 26 years of service in the United States Air Force and Forest Service, Vivian draws from a wealth of experience and a heart for helping others find peace amid life's demands.Vivian knows first-hand the challenges women face while juggling multiple personal and professional responsibilities. Having walked through her own season of burnout and breakdown, she now shares how partnering with God can bring calm, strength, and joy. With authenticity, warmth, and wisdom, Vivian equips women to honor God, care for themselves, and live a joyful, balanced life.Vivian is married to her best friend, Eddy, and is the proud bonus mom to two adult children and a “Glammy” to five grandchildren.Anchor Verses:1 Peter 5:10Jeremiah 29:11Isaiah 43:19Connect with Vivian:Website: https://viviancumins.comIG: https://www.instagram.com/viviancuminsFB: https://www.facebook.com/share/1JGhJF3DGX/?mibextid=wwXIfr***We love hearing from you! Folks, when the summertime gets a'kickin round these parts, sometimes it's TOUGH to get a pod in. But we did it, this time another classic duo of Bob and Jeff. We get it DONE with all things Philadelphia sports.First up - the Phillies as we begin to assess their "defects" as it were. Some issues with our high priced, long term contracts with aging players. But sure, we can all point at Turner and say UGH...and Nola as well. However this squad can still mash (see this weekend's dominating series win against the Mets), and it's still June! Why do they always say "it's still..." in baseball? No matter what month it is?Then we hop headlong into the Flyers and their trade of Ersson and Andrae. Got a good haul in return from the Leafs, in Woll and Benoit. Let's get gassed up for another playoff run boys! I already miss watchng the Flyers, don't you?And to end it we must give props to the Knicks, as painful as that might be. They got it done. BUZZSAW.Email: hoagiemouthpod@gmail.comIG: @hoagiemouthpod

Are the Empire's Rebels just yesterday's Separatists in new clothes? The Confederacy of Independent Systems wasn't driven by ideology so much as by corporate interests, trade unions, and Outer Rim frustrations with a bloated Republic. But what really pushed entire systems to break away? Why fight so fiercely for independence while simultaneously aligning with a new power rising in the shadows? And what was the Separatists' true endgame? In this episode, Mark, Brian, and Garrett dig into the political, philosophical, and moral tensions behind the Separatist movement—its motivations, its contradictions, and its lasting impact on the galaxy.

How to Stay Standing When Your Foundation Gets Tested: Building Your Life on Christ with Alli Patterson!

Friend, have you ever experienced a season where everything you thought was secure suddenly fell apart? This week on the Anchored by the Sword Podcast, I sit down with Bible teacher, author, speaker, and teaching pastor Alli Patterson to talk about freedom, failure, redemption, and learning to build our lives on the only foundation that truly lasts.Alli shares her powerful personal story of coming to faith as a teenager, drifting away from the Lord during college and early adulthood, and eventually walking through a devastating season of brokenness that nearly destroyed her marriage. Through that painful experience, she encountered the kindness, forgiveness, and presence of Jesus in a way she had never known before. What I love about Alli's story is that it reminds us that God is not afraid of our mess. He is a God of redemption, restoration, and second chances. We also dive into her newest Bible study, Spirit-Led Bible Study: Six Practices to Bring the Bible to Life, where Alli teaches practical ways to approach Scripture that move beyond simply reading words on a page and into genuinely encountering God through His Word. One of my favorite moments from this conversation was Alli's reminder that hearing God's Word is only part of the equation.Jesus didn't simply call us to listen. He called us to build. The storms of life reveal what our foundation is made of, and true freedom comes when we choose to build our lives on Christ instead of success, comfort, achievement, or our own plans.Whether you've struggled with failure, finding your footing after difficult seasons, or feeling intimidated by studying the Bible, this conversation will encourage you to take the next step toward Jesus and trust Him to rebuild what feels broken.Bio:Alli Patterson is a teacher, author, wife and mom of four out of Cincinnati, Ohio. She currently serves as a Teaching Pastor at Crossroads Church on the national teaching team. Alli is the leader of Woman Camp and founder of the Ignite Conference out of her passion for equipping women in the Kingdom of God.As a lifetime learner and lover of scripture with a seminary degree from Dallas Theological Seminary, Alli loves to create ways for others to know and love Jesus through his Word. She has created a fresh approach to Bible study in the release of Spirit-Led Bible Study, coming February 2026. She has written two books, How to Stay Standing and Blueprint for Belonging- both providing practical help translating Biblical principles into real life. Alli speaks at events and conferences and enjoys podcasting. She is a runner and die-hard Buckeye football fan who loves Mexican food almost as much as her bratty calico cat.Anchor Verses:Luke 6:47-49Luke 6:45Connect with Alli:Website: https://www.allipatterson.comIG: https://www.instagram.com/theallipattersonLinktree: https://linktr.ee/theallipattersonAbout Spirit-Led Bible StudyIn Spirit-Led Bible Study: Six Practices to Bring the Bible to Life, Alli teaches practical and approachable ways to engage Scripture, helping readers move beyond simply reading the Bible to truly interacting with God through His Word. The study introduces six practices designed to help believers observe, interpret, pray through, and apply Scripture while allowing the Holy Spirit to guide the process.***We love hearing from you! This week Alyssa and Nadia are joined by former gymnastics teammate Claire Andriola to talk about college, life after graduation, and figuring out what comes next when the plan changes. Claire shares how she arrived at UC Santa Barbara fully intending to go to medical school. Along the way, research opportunities, patient care experiences, and exposure to different areas of healthcare pushed her to rethink what she wanted. What started as a pre med path eventually led her toward research, psychology, and a much broader view of the field. After graduation, Claire worked in clinical research before unexpectedly finding herself at a mental health startup. She talks about the transition from academia to the startup world, the opportunities that came from staying open to new experiences, and why she's no longer in a rush to have everything figured out.The conversation feels familiar to Nadia, who is approaching graduation herself and facing many of the same questions. They talk about gap years, medical school, career uncertainty, and the pressure ambitious people put on themselves to have a clear roadmap. They also reflect on how gymnastics shaped the way they approach life. The discipline, intensity, and drive that helped them succeed in the sport still show up today, but so does the challenge of knowing when to push harder and when to change course. It's an honest conversation about growth, uncertainty, and learning to trust that each step will give you the information you need for the next one.TakeawaysChanging your career goals does not mean your earlier experiences were wastedEvery experience teaches you something whether it confirms what you want or what you do not wantThe discipline and resilience from gymnastics continue long after the sport endsA lot of career decisions become easier when you stop expecting certainty.Sometimes a random conversation can completely change your career pathBeing ambitious and being flexible can exist at the same timeGap years can create clarity instead of delaying progressYou do not need to know your entire future to make a good next decisionThe pressure to have everything figured out is often self imposedLearning who you are is just as important as choosing what you doChapters0:10 – 2:02 Introducing Claire and Catching Up2:02 – 4:14 Studying Biopsychology at UC Santa Barbara4:14 – 7:25 Moving Away from the Medical School Plan7:25 – 9:48 Gymnastics Intensity and Personal Values9:48 – 12:13 From Clinical Research to Startup Life12:13 – 15:24 Graduate School and Future Plans15:24 – 18:10 Why One on One Connections Matter18:10 – 20:32 Nadia Looks Ahead to Graduation20:32 – 23:50 Learning to Live with Uncertainty23:50 – 27:35 Gymnastics Identity and Finding Balance27:35 – 30:20 Choosing Your Own Path30:20 – 34:40 Advice for Students About to Graduate34:40 – 38:23 Looking Ahead and Final Thoughts650.701.7686 (o)650.332.2739 (f)510.673.8712 (m)Sports & Dance Rehab | Pilates | Group ClassesOn the Move Physical Therapy501-D Old County Rd. "You have set up this pattern where you completely abandon yourself unconsciously and make it about the other person because you believe on an unconscious level that that is the way that you will get love, connection, and ultimately survive."Codependency is one of those words I've avoided for a long time, not because it isn't real, but because I think it gets oversimplified in a way that misses what's actually happening. The deeper I go in my own process and the deeper I take my clients who've been doing this work for a while, the more I see that the layers of codependency we're dealing with aren't just behavioral. They're energetic. They started before we had language for any of it. And they've been running silently underneath every relationship, every decision, and every moment we've felt depleted, resentful, or like we're hitting a wall, without understanding why. What I've been uncovering, for myself and for the women I work with, is that so much of what we think is just "who we are" is actually a set of coping mechanisms we created in childhood to survive the emotional environment we were in. The way we automatically say yes. The way we absorb other people's feelings and lose track of our own. The way we don't even realize we have a choice. In this episode, I'm diving into what the deeper layers of codependency actually look like energetically, why they're so hard to see, and what it's meant for me to start pulling on these threads in real time, including some very personal things I've been navigating.TODAY'S HIGHLIGHTSWhy codependency goes far deeper than its mainstream definitionHow childhood coping mechanisms get wired into the nervous system as survival responses, not conscious choicesThe mother wound as the blueprint for every relationship pattern that followsThe Boomer generation, Pluto in Leo, and why narcissistic tendencies in parents are more common than most people realizeWhy highly sensitive, empathic women often can't tell the difference between their own feelings and everyone else'sThe moment I recognized I'd been operating from guilt and shame every time I said yesHow the same patterns that come from trauma become your greatest gifts once they're alchemizedThe energetic and astrological context for why so many of us are in a deep unraveling right nowThe questions to ask yourself when you're stuck, depleted, or repeating the same patterns**WAYS TO ENTER MY WORLD**When you leave a review of the podcast on Apple Podcasts and send us a screenshot of it, we'll send you a $250 credit that you can apply to anything else in my world.Check out Breathwork to Heal Anxiety on my YouTube channelJoin me in The Metamorphosis which is my 3-month, groundbreaking, flagship program to rapidly and efficiently clear the familial and ancestral trauma that is blocking you from experiencing the wealth and freedom that you desire.Starting a business or working with clients? Jesus Will Meet You There: Finding Christ in Weakness, Suffering, and the Hard Places with Kristen Wetherell and Sarah Walton!

Friend, if you've ever wondered where God is in the middle of your pain, this conversation is for you. This week on the Anchored by the Sword Podcast, I sit down with authors Kristen Wetherell and Sarah Walton to talk about their brand-new book, Jesus Will Meet You There, releasing today, June 9th.Together, Kristen and Sarah share deeply personal stories of chronic illness, suffering, mental health struggles, family challenges, and the lessons they've learned about depending on Christ when life doesn't go according to plan.In a culture that tells us to be stronger, try harder, and handle everything on our own, this conversation offers a different message: God never designed us to be self-sufficient. Instead, our weaknesses, limitations, and struggles often become the very places where we experience the compassion, presence, and strength of Jesus most clearly. We talk about anxiety, depression, chronic illness, spiritual dryness, shame, and the pressure many Christians feel to hide their struggles. Most importantly, we discuss the beautiful truth that Jesus is not disappointed by our weakness. He knows our frame. He remembers that we are dust. And He meets us right where we are.If you're walking through a difficult season, carrying a burden that feels heavy, or simply exhausted from trying to hold everything together, I pray this conversation reminds you that you do not have to carry it alone.Jesus will meet you there. One of my favorite truths from this conversation is this:We spend so much time trying to convince ourselves that we should be stronger, more capable, and less needy. But Scripture tells a different story.God created us with limitations—not to shame us, but to draw us into dependence on Him.Our weakness is not evidence that God has abandoned us.Often, it is the very place where He draws nearest.Friend, whatever you're carrying today, remember this:You do not have to be enough.Jesus already is.Bios:Kristen Wetherell is a pastor's wife, mother, and writer. This week, Alyssa and Nadia finally get into the topic Alyssa has been trying to crack open for months, Nadia's love life. What started as a casual mention, "don't make a big deal out of this, but I'm going on a third date," has since turned into something real, and this episode is basically the full update.Alyssa starts by breaking down the modern dating vocabulary she had to learn in real time. Where her generation had “going steady,” Nadia's world has a whole ladder of stages, talking, dating, exclusive, official. From the outside it can feel confusing or noncommittal, but Nadia explains why those steps actually make sense and how things naturally shift as feelings change. From there they get into how it all started. A Hinge match in February, a first date, and a third date that felt different enough that Nadia had to say something. Nadia talks about what made her nervous, not safety stuff, just the vulnerability of getting to know someone after a long stretch of being comfortable on her own.The episode gets warmer and more reflective when Alyssa asks what made this particular person easy to talk to. Nadia points to compatible personalities and a shared Bay Area background, something she didn't realize mattered until it did. Alyssa connects it to her own relationship with Nadia's dad and how small points of connection quietly build something bigger over time. The practical side gets addressed too. He graduated and moved back to the Bay Area while Nadia is still in Boston for co-op, studying for the MCATs, and figuring out her next semester. Long distance isn't the plan, it's just the current situation. But since home is the same place for both of them, it doesn't really feel like an ending, more like a pause. The episode wraps up with Alyssa floating the idea of DMing him or his mom for a coffee date, Nadia drawing a very firm line, and a rare public shoutout to Sean, who apparently gave his blessing for all of this.TakeawaysThe modern dating timeline has more stages than previous generations had words for and that's not confusion, it's just how things work nowGoing in with no expectations can actually be a healthy way to approach dating, especially when feelings genuinely evolve over timeThe fear of vulnerability after a long period of being single is just as real as any other kind of dating anxietyHaving people in your corner, roommates, friends, even a very invested mom, can make the difference between giving up and giving it a shotShared background and cultural touchstones create an ease that's hard to explain but impossible to ignoreA situationship is only frustrating when nothing comes out of it. When something does, it just becomes the beginningLong distance is more manageable when home is the same place for both peopleThere's a real difference between a parent being involved because they're pushy and a parent being involved because they genuinely want to share in the good stuffSometimes the reason you never talked about your dating life on the podcast is simply that there was nothing worth saying until there wasChapters0:10 – 1:24 — Catching Up and Setting the Stage1:24 – 4:15 — Third Date Energy, How This All Started4:15 – 7:00 — Dating Vocab Then vs. Now7:00 – 9:35 — Being the Last Single One in the Apartment9:35 – 12:00 — What Was Actually Scary About It12:00 – 15:20 — Why He Was Easy to Talk To15:20 – 18:10 — What Shared Background Actually Does for a Relationship18:10 – 21:00 — Long Distance (Sort Of)21:00 – 23:55 — Situationships, Labels, and Why Nadia Doesn't Love That Word23:55 – 27:47 — The Official Shoutout, the Coffee Date Offer, and Signing Off650.701.7686 (o)650.332.2739 (f)510.673.8712 (m)Sports & Dance Rehab | Pilates | Group ClassesOn the Move Physical Therapy501-D Old County Rd. Sherry shared her journey from a chemistry master's student to a health and fitness professional, explaining how her disordered eating patterns emerged after years of following various diet trends. She described how her nervous system became triggered to fear food and overeat as a survival mechanism, leading her to develop her method focused on addressing the root psychological and biological causes of unwanted eating behaviors rather than just dietary restrictions. The conversation explored how diet culture creates fear around food and discussed the importance of body awareness and support systems in recovery. Both participants shared personal experiences with eating disorders and discussed how making peace with food involves reconnecting with internal body signals rather than relying on external rules or validation. This was a beautiful interview.  Above is a ZOOM overview.  Here is my opinion that I highly recommend that you visit my guest, Sherry Shaban, on her Podcast and on her website.Connect with Sherry:email: sherry@sherryshaban.comwebsite: www.sherryshaban.comIG, FB and LinkedIN: @sherryshabanftinesspodcast: Fall in Love with FitnessYouTube: Sherry Shaban FitnessBuzzsprout - Let's get your podcast launched!Start for FREEBE A GUEST/FIND A GUEST Start for Free!PODMATCH is innovative, provides easy communication and dashboard scheduling! He survived combat in Afghanistan. Then a freak accident in Las Vegas nearly took his head off. The trailer broke loose and the sign slammed into Andrew, nearly decapitating him and leaving him with devastating facial trauma and a traumatic brain injury. We talk about Operation Khanjar, the shift from firefights to IED warfare, loosing his best friend Nick in Afghanistan and carries the kind of survivor's guilt that can quietly steer your entire life and the whiplash of flying home from a war zone to stand at a coffin draped in an American flag. Andrew shares what it's like to return to Afghanistan after the funeral, why compartmentalizing works in the moment but costs you later, and how a single letter and a valor award helped pull him out of a post-service spiral. In this episode we talk through:• Andrew's Marine Corps deployment to Helmand Province• Operation Khanjar and combat in Afghanistan• Losing his best friend Nick during deployment• Survivor's guilt and post combat identity• Police work on Cape Cod and crisis negotiation• The 2025 Las Vegas accident that nearly killed him• Severe facial trauma and traumatic brain injury recovery• Losing his law enforcement career overnight• His book Somewhere in Between• Honoring Nick's legacy through documentary work and storytellingThis conversation is about trauma, identity, grief, survival, and rebuilding when life changes in an instant.Learn more about Andrew Coville's story at AndrewCoville.com.  "Your life is a garden and whatever you cultivate is what springs up, and if you don't pull out certain weeds, it ends up choking out the good stuff." My good friend, Dr. Word Smith is back for the third time. He flew into Philly, we sat down with zero agenda, and what came out was one of the most honest, layered conversations I've had on this show about relationships, childhood wounds, codependency, Buddhism, karma, and what it actually takes to change. We get into why intimate relationships are the sharpest mirror we have for our unprocessed childhood material, and why most of us don't even have language for what we didn't receive growing up, only a feeling that something was missing. Word shares his own journey through toxic shame, perfectionism, and self-criticism, and what it looked like to actually move through it over 25 years of real inner work. We also dive into Buddhism, the concept of seed planting, why just changing your thoughts doesn't work, and why the feelings and the body have to be part of the equation. Then we go deep into codependency, the slow, invisible way it builds, how it rewards you just enough to keep you stuck, and what it means to finally hit the wall where continuing the old way is no longer an option. We talk about the container: what it means to have a safe space where your body knows it can finally feel, and why that safety isn't a luxury, it's the actual mechanism of change. We close with a tease: we may be co-facilitating a retreat this fall. Stay tuned.TODAY'S HIGHLIGHTSWhy intimate relationships trigger us more than anything elseThe moment Word finally understood what toxic shame wasHow to trace shame back to childhood: what questions to ask yourselfWhy affirmations alone don't work, and what you're missing when you skip the feelings and bodyBuddhism, karma, and seed plantingCodependency: a survival mechanism that stops serving youThe perimenopause layer: why women in their 40s suddenly can't tolerate the old patterns anymoreSelf-abandonment disguised as being a good mom, wife, partner, and how to start seeing itThe container: why your body knows when it's safe to feel, and why that space is the key to processingFall retreat announcement. Feeling mentally overloaded, overstimulated, or emotionally exhausted? In this short and heartfelt episode, I'm sharing an unexpected self-regulation lesson inspired by my one-year-old daughter, Sadie. After noticing her simple calming technique when she feels overwhelmed, it reminded me how important it is for all of us to pause, regulate, and give our nervous systems a break. We live in a world of nonstop noise, pressure, and consumption, and sometimes what feels like anxiety or irritability is actually just overstimulation. In this episode, I'm walking you through three practical ways to calm your mind, reset your nervous system, and stop spiraling when life feels too loud.If you've been feeling stressed, emotionally drained, or constantly “on,” this episode is your gentle reminder to breathe, slow down, and be where your feet are.Website: https://www.splashofash.comIG: https://www.instagram.com/a_splashofash/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/asplashofashhEmail: Hello@splashofash.com

Hey guys, welcome back to another episode of The Anchored by the Sword Podcast. Today's conversation is heavy. But it's also one filled with honesty, tenderness, and hope. And if you've walked through grief, loss, trauma, suicide loss, dementia, or simply wondered where God is in the middle of unimaginable pain…I think this episode will meet you there.Today I'm joined by my friend Rachel Dawn. Rachel and I connected online years ago as fellow Ohio girls, eventually met in person at a ministry conference, and I still have the signed copy of her first book from back in my launch team days. And you guys…Her story is one that will stay with you.Rachel shares about surviving the loss of her brother to suicide in 2021 while she was only three weeks postpartum—all while slowly losing her father to dementia at the same time. Imagine:A newborn.Sleep deprivation.Traumatic grief.Public news coverage.FBI involvement.Dementia.And trying to breathe through all of it.It was simply…Too much for one person to carry. And honestly, one of the biggest takeaways from this conversation was hearing Rachel say:“It was too much for one person to hold at one time.”I think some of you need permission to hear that too.In this episode we talk about: -Surviving suicide loss -The complicated emotions of grief—especially anger and rage -Therapy after trauma and why seeking help matters -Walking through postpartum struggles while grieving -Losing someone slowly through dementia while mourning someone suddenly -Why grief heals in layers—not overnight -Learning to be gentle with yourself -The pressure to “be okay” too soonRachel also shares about her upcoming book that is tentatively titled, Reads Like Fiction, which is built from raw grief journals, motherhood journals, and years of healing. And I love reminding each of you that:You are healing… and you are healed. Both can be true.Friend—If grief has made you feel unseen…If trauma has convinced you healing is impossible…If you're angry…If you're tired…Please hear me:God is not rushed with your healing. And neither should you be.Listen now and share this episode with the person who needs to hear this message!Bio:Rachel Dawn met and married her “prince charming” young (as many small-town girls do), and embarked on an exciting life, certain she was destined for success and happiness. Then, it all fell apart.By 25, she found herself divorced, discouraged, disenchanted, and starting over. The lessons she learned during this time allowed her to rebuild her life, regain her confidence, and reignite her dreams. (You can read this whole story in her book, Now What: A Story of Broken Dreams and the God Who Restores Them). In 2021, she was promoted to mom. But, just three-and-a-half weeks later, her only brother died by suicide. She has spent the years since studying grief and the fallout that comes from such a traumatic loss. She writes and speaks with raw transparency and vulnerability, telling impactful stories from her own life. While reading or listening, it feels as if you're chatting one-on-one over coffee with a friend. Her journey and words have inspired countless others not only to persevere but also to heal and thrive through grief and grieving.Today, she has a wonderful husband, an adorable son, two accidental cats, and a mission to help others find hope and freedom after devastating pain.Anchor Verses:Psalm 34:18Psalm 147:3Connect with Rachel:Website: https://racheldawnwrites.comIG: https://www.instagram.com/racheldawnwrites/FB: https://www.facebook.com/racheldawnwrites***We love hearing from you! Bob, Mike and Jeff bring you some trenchant insights into "who exactly ARE these Phillies?" We can say they've done well under Donnie Baseball, even turned the ship around a bit. But we're prone to the disappearance of the offense (the weekend was up and down in that regard)....and some of these pitchers REALLY need to get that ERA under 5.00. I mean CMON Nola. Painter, you're young, but wassup? LUZARDO MY DAWG. Let's see what the boys of summer bring to the party, because summer is here folks.Next ,we touch on the perhaps least exciting moment in the NFL season...the OTAs which kick in this week. Send us Fan MailOn this Episode of The Plant Movement Podcast features Shane Leder, owner of Real Landscape Inc. and Real Landscape Nursery, for one of the deepest and most powerful conversations ever shared on the podcast. What begins as a conversation about landscaping, growing unique plant material, and building a vertically integrated nursery operation quickly transforms into a raw discussion about addiction, faith, fear, leadership, marriage, burnout, loneliness, money, and purpose within the green industry.Shane shares the incredible story behind Real Landscape — from starting his business in 2004 to purchasing a horse farm in 2017 and transforming it into Real Landscape Nursery in Boynton Beach, Florida. Known for growing unique, mature material instead of “cookie cutter plants,” Shane explains how he built a nursery focused on quality, patience, and vision while teaching himself the business through books, trial, error, and relentless work ethic. But this episode goes far beyond plants.Shane opens up about growing up on a dairy farm in western New York, battling alcoholism from a young age, going through rehab, relapsing after the loss of his sister, and eventually finding sobriety on October 15, 2003. He speaks candidly about how addiction, insecurity, fear, anxiety, and emotional isolation affect so many people in the landscaping and nursery world, even the ones who appear successful on the outside.Together, Willie Rodriguez, Eddie Gonzalez and Shane Leder discuss:• Substance abuse and addiction in the green industry• Faith, prayer, and following God's purpose• The loneliness many owners and foremen silently experience• Fear of losing money, clients, and control• Marriage, relationships, and having a supportive partner• Burnout, stress, surgeries, chronic pain, and exhaustion• Leadership, mentorship, and building genuine community• The importance of helping others and serving with purpose• Financial discipline, investing, and business growth• Why many people in the industry are afraid to share knowledge• The hidden emotional toll behind successShane also shares powerful lessons about sobriety, forgiveness, investing in people, listening to the Holy Spirit, and learning how to operate from faith instead of fear. This episode is honest, emotional, inspiring, and deeply relatable for anyone in the landscaping, nursery, or horticulture industry who has ever felt exhausted, isolated, overwhelmed, or misunderstood while trying to build something meaningful.Core message from the episode:“We built businesses, but many of us are secretly exhausted, isolated, addicted, hurting physically, disconnected spiritually, and starving for real brotherhood. I believe Jesus Christ and genuine community can help heal that.”If you've ever struggled with pressure, anxiety, addiction, burnout, fear, or purpose while building a business, this conversation is for you.Need plants, logistics, or nursery support in Florida? We've got you covered, tap in with our network partners.Real Landscape Design, Installation & MaintenanceShane Leder OwnerEmail: real.books@outlook.comIG: www.instagram.com/reallandscape1Call: 561-644-7507The Plant Movement PodcastEmail: eddie@theplantmovementnetwork.com & willie@theplantmovementnetwork.comCall: (305) 216-5320Web: https://www.theplantmovement.comFollow Us: IG: https://www.instagram.com/theplantmovementpodcastA's Ornamental NurseryWE GROW | WE SOURCE | WE DELIVERCall: (305) 216-5320 www.asornamental.comThe Nursery GrowersCall: 786-522-4942Plant Logistics Co.(Delivering Landscape Plant Material Throughout the State of Florida)Call: (305) 912-3098Disclaimer: The contents of this podcast/youtube video are for informational and entertainment purposes only and do not constitute financial, accounting, or legal advice. At one point, I was a single mom raising two kids on $300 a month, working long hours and trying to hold everything together.Fitness became my lifeline — the one thing that helped me feel strong, resilient, and hopeful when life felt heavy.Over the past 35+ years, that lifeline became my mission. I've helped thousands of midlife women move out of the start-over cycle and find an approach that finally works for their body and their life. Here's what I believe:Midlife isn't a decline — it's your turning point. You don't need extremes — just small steps that fit your life. And with the right support, you can feel capable, clear, and strong at any age.If you're ready to stop starting over and finally find an approach that works for your body and your life, you're in the right place.Get Heike's book: https://amzn.to/4tBvoGphttps://heikeyates.com/Book CarrieVee for a Speaking Engagement:  https://www.coachcarriev.com/contact-meJoin the Confidence and Clarity Membership!  https://carrievee.com/confidence-clarity-1Connect with CarrieVee:www.carrievee.comcarriev@coachcarriev.comIG:  @iamcarrievee TT:  @carrievee2022FB:  Carrie VerrocchioLI:  Carrie Verrocchio
