THE FANTASTIC POUR Brett welcomes Pop Culture Basement host Mike Jamison to the Fantasti-Lounge for a new edition of the Fantastic Pour! We talk Green Arrow, layer a black and tan, and read Green Arrow #81. Join us in the Fantasti-Lounge as we discuss if Oliver Queen is the John McClane of the DC Universe, the best black and tan spoon usage, watching cable at your aunt's house, a Philadelphia therapy session, and much, much more! Secret Pour-igins: Black and Tan Cocktail: Black and Go Birds Ingredients (per drink): 12oz can of Guiness 12oz can or bottle of Yards Pale Ale 1 Pint Glass 1 metal spoon Instructions (per drink) First, pour the Yards Pale Ale directly into the bottom of the glass, this will release enough carbonation to create a little foamy head. Fill the glass halfway. Let it settle for a minute. Then place a spoon rounded-side up inside the glass, with the tip of the spoon pressed against the edge of the glass. Open the Guiness and slowly, carefully pour the stout over the spoon so it fans out over the edges of the spoon. This allows the Guiness to settle on top of the Yards Pale Ale in an even layer, creating a divided black and tan. You can buy a special black and tan spoon, or even bend a regular spoon back so you can fit it inside the glass, but any relatively flat spoon will work. What does Jesus mean when He says, “Blessed are those who mourn”?Pain, loss, sorrow, and heartbreak are part of the human experience. Yet in the second Beatitude, Jesus makes a surprising promise: “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”In week two of our Blessed? series, Pastor Dale Oquist continues through the Beatitudes and explores a Kingdom that doesn't ask us to hide our pain or pretend everything is fine. Jesus meets us in our mourning and invites us to bring our sorrow honestly before God.The blessing isn't found in the pain itself. The blessing is found in the God who meets us in our mourning. In this message, you'll discover:Why mourning is not a weakness or a virtue we need to pursueThe danger of suppressing sorrow and pretending we're "fine"Why grief and tears can be gifts from GodHow biblical mourning extends beyond our own pain to the brokenness around usWhat suffering reveals about the heart of GodWhy grief invites God's presenceThe difference between suppressing our sorrow and surrendering it to GodHow God's comfort gives us both present strength and future hope

Rebecca Jollotta, the psychiatric nurse practitioner certified by Postpartum Support International, went back on the stand today in the murder trial of Lindsay Clancy, the Duxbury, Massachusetts mother accused of strangling her three children — 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan — with exercise bands inside the family's Summer Street home on January 24, 2023. Clancy faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation. She's pleaded not guilty, and her attorney Kevin Reddington is building an insanity defense around severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication. After the morning recess, Jollotta picked up where she left off, walking jurors through an ongoing stream of MyChart messages between herself and Clancy. She testified that at a December 6, 2022 appointment — one Patrick Clancy attended alongside his wife — she raised the possibility of an underlying bipolar disorder. Jollotta said she was worried enough about Clancy's mental state that she wanted to see her every single week. And in a detail that's going to sit heavy with anyone following this case: Jollotta testified Lindsay did report suicidal ideation, just never on the days Jollotta was actually in the room to hear it.Prosecutors are expected to argue Clancy understood the nature of her actions despite the defense's mental-health claims. After the killings, Clancy allegedly attempted to take her own life by jumping from a second-story window, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down. Patrick Clancy was out of the home running errands at the time and has since relocated to Manhattan. The trial, underway in Plymouth Superior Court, is expected to run several more weeks.LinksJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? On Hashtag Trending for Tuesday, August 11, 2026, host Jim Love covers four major technology stories. OpenAI says preliminary testing of its unreleased Astra model shows cybersecurity capabilities strong enough that the company cannot rule out its highest "Critical" capability level. OpenAI has tightened isolation, network and tool access, and monitoring around the model. The company also explicitly says Astra was not involved in the recent Hugging Face intrusion, which involved GPT-5.6 Sol and a separate internal research model. SpaceX stock has rebounded sharply after falling to around $110 last week. Shares were trading around $132 as the show was recorded, after briefly moving back above the $135 IPO price. One major concern failed to materialize: more than 900 million previously restricted shares became eligible for sale, but the feared flood of insider selling did not occur. Investors are also weighing stronger-than-expected revenue and new details about SpaceX's planned $16.8 billion Terafab chip project with Tesla. Mark Zuckerberg is warning that concentrating powerful AI in the hands of a few companies, governments or experts could itself become dangerous. At the same time, Meta appears to be moving back toward open-weight AI with Muse Glimmer and a planned open-weight version of Muse Spark 1.2. There is some irony in hearing one of the world's most powerful technology executives warning about concentrated control, but the underlying question remains important. And finally, one of San Francisco's newest "AI chatbots" has no AI at all. ChatTJB is answered by actual humans, just as public frustration with low-quality AI-generated content is beginning to have an impact on platforms including LinkedIn and Snapchat. It may be evidence of a healthier discussion about where AI helps and where people still want humans involved. 00:00 Top Tech Headlines 00:32 OpenAI Cybersecurity Red Line 03:16 SpaceX Stock Rebound 04:51 Zuckerberg on AI Power 07:07 Chatbot With No AI 08:11 Backlash to AI Slop 09:16 Wrap Up and Outro

Why Lindsay Clancy's Own Witness Undercut The State's Case

The prosecution in the Lindsay Clancy trial built its case around one number — thirteen medications, all within therapeutic range. Then their own expert stood up and complicated that story in a way nobody on the state's side probably wanted.Under cross-examination, the prosecution's psychiatrist told the jury that a person can be in active psychosis and still appear calm, functional, and coherent to everyone around her. That single admission cuts against the Commonwealth's entire "she was thinking clearly" theory. The rest of Day 8 didn't make things simpler for the state. Eleven witnesses took the stand, all called by the prosecution. A medical examiner described how 8-month-old Callan died. Lindsay Clancy broke down at the defense table watching autopsy photos, forcing the judge to pause proceedings. The pediatrician recalled a routine physical with 5-year-old Cora hours before the deaths — nothing unusual, nothing flagged. Friends and coworkers testified about insomnia, brain fog, and a stay at McLean Hospital. Patrick Clancy's father called her a great mother and their home an all-American family. Then the case detective was pressed on a search warrant executed on her Facebook account, hunting for evidence of abuse in the marriage. He admitted it found nothing.Clancy's journal entries were read into the record, including a line about feeling like she was drowning. The prosecution calls that premeditation. The defense calls it a documented collapse. Defense attorney Kevin Reddington has already conceded the killings — what's left is whether Massachusetts can prove sanity beyond a reasonable doubt. I break down where the case stands heading into the next phase.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Something happened in the Lindsay Clancy trial that legal analysts didn't expect from a prosecution witness — an admission that may have done more for the defense than for the state. I break it down along with everything else that unfolded across the Commonwealth's case.Thirteen psychiatric medications, all within therapeutic range — that's the prosecution's headline fact, the one they want the jury fixated on. It's supposed to mean she was lucid. It doesn't mean what they think it means, and their own expert said so under cross-examination.Day 8 alone produced eleven witnesses, all called by the state. A medical examiner detailed how 8-month-old Callan died. Lindsay Clancy broke down hard enough at the defense table that the judge halted the hearing until she composed herself. The family's pediatrician recounted a completely unremarkable checkup with 5-year-old Cora hours before the deaths. Coworkers and friends testified to insomnia, brain fog, a rotating list of medications, and time spent at McLean Hospital. Patrick Clancy's own father took the stand and called her a great mother. Then the case detective was asked about a search warrant on her Facebook account, hunting for any sign of abuse in the home. He confirmed it turned up nothing. Her journal entries were read into the record — lines about drowning, about barely holding on. The prosecution reads those words as premeditation. The defense reads them as a woman's mind unraveling in real time, on paper, before anyone stepped in. Defense attorney Kevin Reddington has conceded what happened. What he's fighting is whether Massachusetts can prove she was sane beyond a reasonable doubt. I walk through where that fight stands now.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? A prosecution witness in the Lindsay Clancy trial said something on the stand that sounds like it belongs in the defense's closing argument. I go through exactly what was admitted and why it matters more than the state probably wanted it to.The Commonwealth's case leans hard on one fact: all thirteen of Lindsay Clancy's psychiatric medications were within therapeutic range when her children died. To the prosecution, that means clarity. But their own psychiatrist told the jury that someone deep in psychosis can still present as calm and put-together — normal on the outside doesn't rule out a break happening underneath.Day 8 of the trial brought eleven witnesses, every one called by the state, and the day didn't go the way prosecutors probably scripted it. A medical examiner explained how 8-month-old Callan died, autopsy photos went up on screen, and Lindsay sobbed hard enough that the judge stopped the hearing. The pediatrician described a routine, unremarkable checkup with 5-year-old Cora just hours before the killings. Coworkers described insomnia, brain fog, a stack of medications, a stay at McLean Hospital. Then the case detective confirmed a search warrant on her Facebook, looking for signs of abuse, came back empty. Her journal entries were read aloud — words about drowning, about barely functioning. Defense attorney Kevin Reddington isn't arguing about what happened; he's conceded it. The only question left for this jury is whether the state can prove she was legally sane, and that burden belongs entirely to the prosecution. I break down where this leaves the case.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? The Tim Conway Jr Show Hour 4 (8.6) We start with the Runyon Canyon restroom that won't quit: a two-stall prefab unit craned in near the Fuller Avenue entrance back in February at a price tag pushing $1 million, and six months later hikers still can't get through the fence. Stalls, sinks, sidewalks, lighting — all installed, all off-limits. Then a story that actually feels good: Lewis Kalb dropped roughly $22,000 in a Phillies charity auction to call the third inning against the Nationals, sat in with Scott Franzke and Larry Andersen, and turned in a broadcast so clean it went viral. From there it gets strange — investigators pulled 251 dogs from an unlicensed L.A. County kennel connected to "Exorcist" actor Linda Blair. Do the math on that cleanup. We close with a fast round: promising research for dog allergy sufferers, a new TikTok deal opening Disney brands to creators, and a former California State Parks superintendent in court on accusations he secretly recorded lifeguards. The Tim Conway Jr Show Hour 3 (8.6) We kick off in full nostalgia mode — MTV, the Macarena, and all the where-were-you moments that date you instantly. Bellio's husband works as an adaptive ski instructor, a certified instructor with specialized training to teach people with physical, cognitive, or sensory disabilities how to ski and snowboard safely, and it's a genuinely cool job most people don't know exists. Plus Nicolas Cage is playing John Madden in a biopic headed to Prime Video. Then KTLA's David Lazarus stops by with a deep cut: he was in "Bad News Bears" — playing for the opposing team — filmed at Mason Park in Chatsworth, Mason just north of Devonshire. Conway counters with his runway modeling era and his CB radio days talking to truck drivers. That rolls straight into a convoy conversation and the general struggle of getting along with technology, including the growing problem of Waymos hogging every good parking spot in the city. Waymo woes, fully documented. We close with the Hollywood mystery of the week: someone is apparently living inside a billboard high above the Sunset Strip, and at least one neighbor waves to him every single day. The Tim Conway Jr Show Hour 1 (8.6) It was a rough morning for LA's pipes. Crews from the Department of Water and Power scrambled to shut down a main break in the Hollywood Hills — no major flooding, but the roadway took a hit — while a second rupture hit Sunset and a geyser erupted on Mango Way in Brentwood. We break down what's actually going on underground and why it keeps happening. Then: hikers at Runyon Canyon are still staring at a two-stall prefab restroom that cost nearly $1 million, craned into place back in February and fenced off ever since. Sinks, lighting, sidewalks — all there. Doors? Locked. Six months and counting. Finally, a lighter one: a fan paid roughly $22,000 at a Phillies charity auction to call the third inning against the Nationals, sat down next to Scott Franzke and Larry Andersen, and sounded so polished the clip went viral. Then a fast round: real progress on the dog allergy front for people who love dogs and pay for it in antihistamines, a new TikTok deal opening the door for creators to work with Disney brands, and a former California State Parks superintendent in court over accusations he secretly recorded lifeguards. After that, health officials say a person infected with measles spent 11 hours at Universal Studios — we'll tell you what that actually means if you were there. Plus Los Angeles Pierce College put its football program on hiatus for the entire 2026 season on August 4, citing a roster so thin it wasn't safe to take the field weeks before the opener. Lindsay Clancy, the 34-year-old Duxbury, Massachusetts mother accused of strangling her three children — 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan — with exercise resistance bands inside the family's Summer Street home on January 24, 2023, was back in Plymouth Superior Court as jurors heard from two very different witnesses. Clancy faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation. She's pleaded not guilty, and attorney Kevin Reddington is mounting an insanity defense built on severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication.First up: Kyle Carney, a friend of Patrick Clancy's, who testified that the day of the killings looked like nothing at all — normal, unremarkable, a good day. No warning signs. Then Massachusetts State Police Trooper Andrew Chiachio took the stand and the mood in the room changed. He detailed pulling surveillance footage from a nearby CVS and Three V Restaurant, and revealed that six months after the incident, investigators got a warrant to swab the outside of the Clancy home for possible DNA. A second warrant targeted Facebook, surfacing a May 2021 post from a parenting support group where Clancy described every day with Dawson as a battle. But on cross, Reddington got Chiachio to admit something that cuts the other way — no evidence Clancy was ever abusive toward her son turned up anywhere. The jury was dismissed after the two testified.Prosecutors are expected to argue Clancy understood what she was doing despite the defense's mental-health claims. After the killings, Clancy allegedly attempted suicide by jumping from a second-story window and is now paralyzed from the waist down. Her husband, Patrick, was out running errands at the time and has since relocated to Manhattan. The trial is expected to run several more weeks.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Two witnesses who knew Lindsay Clancy from opposite sides of her life took the stand today in her murder trial — and together they complicated the story more than they simplified it. Clancy, 34, of Duxbury, Massachusetts, is accused of strangling her three children — 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan — with exercise resistance bands inside the family's Summer Street home on January 24, 2023. She's pleaded not guilty to three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation, with attorney Kevin Reddington mounting an insanity defense built on severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication.Amy Bevins, a licensed behavior analyst for autistic children who's known Clancy for 29 years, testified that Dawson's delivery was difficult — but that right before the killings, Lindsay actually seemed hopeful. On cross, she admitted the two of them had texted repeatedly about how hard the prescribed medications were to tolerate, and that after the tragedy, on her mental health providers' advice, they simply stopped discussing the children at all. Then came Christopher W. Clancy, Patrick's father, describing a daughter-in-law who was fiercely protective of baby Callan, though he'd noticed real frustration when it came to Dawson. He confirmed what's becoming a running theme in this trial: trouble sleeping, an ER visit, real strain — but by his account, Lindsay mostly seemed to be in good spirits. Two witnesses, two vantage points, and a jury left to reconcile "hopeful" and "good spirits" with what happened days later.Prosecutors still argue Clancy understood exactly what she was doing. After the killings, she allegedly attempted suicide by jumping from a second-story window and remains paralyzed from the waist down. Her husband, Patrick, was running errands at the time and has since relocated to Manhattan. The trial continues in Plymouth Superior Court.LinksJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Bryan Kohberger is trying to withdraw his guilty plea and win a new trial — and he seems not to have priced what winning would cost him.He traded a trial for his life. The agreement he signed in the Idaho student murders took the death penalty off the table in exchange for four consecutive life sentences and a waiver of his right to appeal. Now he wants the agreement gone.If a judge vacated that plea, the deal dissolves — and legal experts told Newsweek that Kohberger would be facing capital punishment all over again. One former federal prosecutor called the attempt foolish, and said that if this case were actually tried, there is a very good chance he is convicted and sentenced to death. Idaho's attorney general said his office stands ready to do whatever is necessary. So the lawyer Kohberger is calling ineffective is the one who got the needle taken away, and saving his life is the failure he is alleging.Tony lays out how he got here. A witness list filed by prosecutors weeks before trial. A name on it that changed the math. A guilty plea entered days later, under oath, with the judge asking him point blank whether he actually committed these crimes because he didn't want the man confessing to something he hadn't done. And then, thirteen months later, five handwritten pages saying none of it was true. The petition is not frivolous and there is a real statute behind it. But there is a difference between a door being open and a man being able to walk through it. This episode is about exactly where that line falls, and what four families are being asked to sit through while it plays out.LinksJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Whether Bryan Kohberger gets a new trial in the Idaho student murders may turn on a clump of hair, and almost every outlet is reporting that evidence wrong. The centerpiece of his bid to undo the guilty plea is hair. He says clumps of it were found in Ethan Chapin's hands, that it wasn't his, and that his own attorneys never told him it existed before he signed away his trial.Almost every outlet covering the Idaho student murders is reporting that wrong, and the correction matters. There are two separate pieces of hair evidence in this case. One was recovered from Chapin's hand — and according to PEOPLE, a DNA expert hired by Kohberger's own defense tested it and found it consistent with Chapin's own reference hair. The second is a set of strands a forensic scientist found stuck to a bed frame, who told Fox News Digital the FBI lab excluded Kohberger. Those are not the same item, and the difference decides whether this petition means anything.Tony works through what the hair could prove at its absolute best, and why the attorney for one victim's family says it isn't the exoneration it's being sold as. Unknown hair inside a home where six young people lived, with visitors coming and going, doesn't undo a knife sheath, a cotton swab pulled from a garbage can in Pennsylvania, or a purchase record from months before the killings. There's also the part of the story that explains the timing of the plea itself. Prosecutors filed a witness list. A name appeared on it. He folded. And the man who discovered the disputed hair wasn't a reporter or an investigator chasing the case from outside. He was working for the defense. That single fact takes the floor out from under the claim that anything was hidden.LinksJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? If Bryan Kohberger ever gets a new trial in the Idaho student murders, it will be because one attorney said one thing under oath. For three years, Anne Taylor could not say a single word about what happened between her and him. Attorney-client privilege sealed it. A change of venue, a gag order, and a mountain of filings never touched it.Kohberger just unsealed it himself, by hand, from a prison cell.By arguing that his lawyers were ineffective, he opened the door to everything said in those rooms. And in the affidavit attached to his post-conviction petition, he volunteered something else: both of his parents and both of his sisters sat in on most of those discussions before he agreed to the deal. He offered it as corroboration that he was pressured. What he actually produced was a list of people who can be placed under oath and asked what was really said.Tony walks through what an evidentiary hearing in this case would look like if a judge lets it proceed. Taylor sworn. Her co-counsel sworn. His family sworn. And Kohberger himself sworn and cross-examined by the State of Idaho about a confession he gave in open court — something he has never faced once, and something the plea deal was written to spare him.The timing of that plea is its own story. Prosecutors filed an amended witness list naming a hundred and eighty people who could help convict him. Newly unsealed records show who was on it. He took the deal days later. There is exactly one way this petition succeeds, and it does not depend on the hair, the affidavit, or anything Kohberger writes. It depends entirely on what one attorney is willing to say under oath — and she has already told the court where she stands.LinksJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Bryan Kohberger's petition to withdraw his guilty plea in the University of Idaho murders is very likely going nowhere, and understanding why means starting in 1967.That is the year Idaho added section 19-4901 to its books. It is the Uniform Post-Conviction Procedure Act, and it guarantees a convicted person the right to come back at a conviction one more time in a separate civil case, with new evidence, at public expense. It was sitting right there the entire time prosecutors were explaining to four grieving families what a plea agreement would mean. This episode covers why in detail. The manifest injustice standard. The sworn colloquy where he told the court he was guilty. The two different pieces of hair evidence being reported as one. And the single narrow path to a new trial, which depends entirely on what his former attorney is willing to swear to.But there is a larger question underneath the filing, and it isn't about him.The families of Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin gave up a trial. No jury. No witnesses. No state made to prove a single element out loud in front of the world. They surrendered all of it in exchange for one thing, and that one thing was finality.Nobody involved in that negotiation had the standing to promise it. Not the prosecutor. Not the judge. Not the document all of them signed. Tony also covers the detail that reframes the plea itself: prosecutors filed a witness list naming a hundred and eighty people who could help convict him, and newly unsealed records show a name on it that no one expected. Days later, he stopped fighting — and now offers the very same people as proof he was forced.LinksJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? The Kohberger family rebuilt their son from the ground up. Addiction treatment, two degrees, a doctoral program across the country. They used the word "proud" publicly, and they'd put in the years to say it.That word now sits next to four consecutive life sentences handed down by Judge Steven Hippler, a son who walked out of a courtroom past his own mother without turning his head, and a handwritten post-conviction petition filed July 27 naming the defense lawyers who saved his life as incompetent.Bryan is representing himself. He told a reporter at the New York Times before he told his family. But the petition isn't where this starts. In 2014, nineteen-year-old Bryan — days out of rehab, sleeping in his father's house, eating his father's food — stole his sister's phone, sold it for cash at a mall kiosk, and told his father "don't do anything stupid" when he was caught. His father called the police on his own son. Monroe County's diversion program wiped the record. And the family fixed him anyway. This letter is addressed directly to that family. To the mother who sat through the impact statements. The sister who keeps annual birthday reminders for each of the four victims. The family that still bakes a cake on his birthday to specifications he sends from prison. The argument isn't to stop loving him. It's that whatever they owed has been paid. That letting go costs nothing except an audience — and audience is the only currency Bryan has ever spent.LinksJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Years before Moscow, Idaho, Bryan Kohberger was a nineteen-year-old fresh out of rehab who stole his sister's phone, sold it at a mall kiosk for less than half its value, and warned his father not to do anything stupid when he got caught. Then his family went to work. They fixed him.Community college. A bachelor's degree. A master's. A doctoral program in Washington State. By every measure available, they had won. Melissa used the word "proud" in an interview, and she'd earned it.What came back through that door carried two degrees and did what was done on King Road. And the reflex — whoever is closest is a lever, and levers get pulled — never changed. A courtroom walkout without looking at his mother. Video calls for hours, every day, for months. A birthday cake baked to his specifications from behind reinforced glass. A post-conviction petition filed July 27 naming the three lawyers who kept him off death row, with a reporter at the Times notified before his own family. This is not a case breakdown. It is not petition analysis. It is an open letter to the people who rebuilt Bryan Kohberger, asking them to consider that the door they've been holding open stopped leading somewhere a long time ago. That letting go doesn't cost them their decency, and that setting down the weight is not the same as pretending it never existed.Madison Mogen was twenty-one. Kaylee Goncalves was twenty-one. Hours of daily video calls — not ordered by any court, just expected. And on July 27, a handwritten petition filed in Ada County without his family knowing until a headline told them. That petition names Anne Taylor, Elisa Massoth, and Bicka Barlow — the defense attorneys who kept a quadruple murderer off Idaho's death row — and calls their work ineffective. Bryan is representing himself. But the petition is the latest act, not the first. The pattern started in 2014, when a nineteen-year-old Bryan stole Melissa's phone, sold it for two hundred dollars, and warned his father not to do anything stupid when he was confronted. The family's response was not to walk away. They reported it, and then they rebuilt him. Rehab to community college to a bachelor's to a master's to a doctoral program. The word they used was "proud."What emerged from all that work walked into a house on King Road in the early morning of November 13, 2022.This piece is an open letter to the Kohberger family — not asking them to stop loving their son, but asking them to consider that the person they're holding on to is not the person they made. That the account is closed. That a family's decency is not measured by how long they let someone spend it.Four students will never get another birthday. Bryan Kohberger asked his sister to bake a cake and blow out the candles for him.LinksJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Neither of these cases will ever answer the question that matters most to the families in them.Tony Brueski and Robin Dreeke, a retired FBI Special Agent with twenty-one years reading behavior under pressure, cover the Lindsay Clancy trial openings and Bryan Kohberger's petition to withdraw his guilty plea.On Clancy, this works through Patrick Clancy's testimony about the last ordinary day, including the photos traded that morning and his line that she was having one of her best days. It also covers the hospital stay, and the discharge he testified he never knew she had asked for. Cora, Dawson and Callan died in January 2023. Criminal responsibility is the only live question, and the Commonwealth owns that burden. On Kohberger, this covers the handwritten petition filed in Ada County District Court, his claim of actual innocence, and his assertion that he was convinced to falsely confess. It also covers the letter Latah County prosecutors sent the families of Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin, promising the plea would spare them decades of post-conviction appeals. There was never a trial and there has never been a motive on the record. In Plymouth, a chain of licensed professionals made every call and faces nothing. In Boise, an office traded away a trial and guaranteed an ending it could not deliver. One family will never hear why. The other is watching a man they were told was finished file paperwork to start it all again. The Clancy trial has weeks to run and the Kohberger petition is still pending, so neither of these ends here. Assistant District Attorney Shanan Buckingham told jurors this was not a woman in the throes of psychosis. The defense needs those same hours to point somewhere else. The episode also covers what prosecutors say happened after the art projects. A drive plotted from the house to a restaurant nobody in the family had tried, then on to a pharmacy. A shopping list with dinner on it and children's medicine under it. An errand that emptied the house.Dreeke takes on the behavioral question directly. What does a genuinely good day tell you about the mind having it, and what does it fail to tell you?Cora was five. Dawson was three. Callan was eight months old. Bryan Kohberger is not blaming the evidence. He is blaming the people who told him to sign.In a handwritten petition for post-conviction relief filed in Ada County District Court, Kohberger claims he received ineffective assistance from his defense team. He says evidence in his favor was never disclosed or reviewed. He says he was convinced to confess to something he did not do. He is representing himself. He told the New York Times his actual innocence is his truth.Tony Brueski and Robin Dreeke, retired FBI Special Agent and former chief of the Bureau's Counterintelligence Behavioral Analysis Program, work through who exactly is being accused here and what that accusation costs.Anne Taylor represented Kohberger at the time of the plea. Her office has declined to comment. She is being blamed in the national press by a former client while her own ethics rules keep her from answering a word of it. That happens to defense lawyers every time a client turns, and almost nobody covers it.The breakdown also covers the rest of the filing. He claims he was given a distorted account of what a life sentence and death row in Idaho would look like. And he says he would welcome prosecutors seeking the death penalty against him again, which is the outcome the plea deal existed to prevent. The four students killed in Moscow in November 2022 were Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin. There was never a trial, never a cross-examination, and no motive was ever required of him. Everything the public knows about that night comes from investigators, and Kohberger now calls their account a work of fiction.True Crime Today follows this case through every filing and hearing with the analysis that explains what each one means. Bryan Kohberger traded a capital murder trial for a deal that took the death penalty off the table. He is now telling the State of Idaho it is welcome to come put it back.He is also the man who stood in an Ada County courtroom and said guilty four separate times, once for each of the four University of Idaho students he admitted killing. This episode takes his claim seriously enough to actually test it. We go through the petition he filed to undo his conviction, the argument he appears to be making, and the extraordinary standard he would have to clear to get anywhere. We look at what he left out of the filing, which turns out to matter more than what he put in.Then we go back to the day itself. Who was with him. How long he and his lawyers had been going through the evidence before he walked into that room. And the specific sworn statement he made to the judge that his new claim runs directly into. The families of Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin were split on the plea deal when it happened. Some of them made peace with it because a prosecutor put a promise in writing about exactly this kind of filing. That letter is where this story turns from a stunt into something worth being angry about.Kaylee Goncalves' family issued a response within hours that dismantles the petition line by line, and gives him a description that has stuck.Drawn from the court docket, the filings, and dated reporting on the University of Idaho case.LINKSJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? He answered yes when a judge asked if he was guilty. Now Bryan Kohberger says he was talked into it.About a year after his sentencing on four consecutive life terms, Kohberger filed a handwritten petition for post-conviction relief in Ada County District Court, representing himself. He says his confession was false and that his actual innocence is his truth.Tony Brueski and Robin Dreeke, who led the FBI's Counterintelligence Behavioral Analysis Program, work through what the filing actually argues and what the wording of it reveals. The petition rests on ineffective assistance of counsel. Kohberger alleges his defense team did not disclose or review evidence that would have helped him. He alleges he was given a distorted account of what a life sentence and death row in Idaho involve. He points to threats and false promises as the reason he pleaded at all.The discussion covers the practical question underneath all of it. He waived his appeal rights in the agreement, but a waiver has never stopped a defendant from attacking the validity of the plea itself. That is the opening he is using, and it was always there. It also covers his statement that he would welcome prosecutors seeking the death penalty again, and what the Goncalves family said in response. They wanted a capital trial from the beginning and have said he simply wants another roll of the dice. Dreeke weighs whether that read holds up behaviorally.Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin were killed in November 2022. There was no trial and no motive on the record. Prosecutors could have required him to explain himself as a condition of the deal, and they decided not to. Bryan Kohberger pleaded guilty to four murders in open court, out loud, four separate times. Now he is trying to take all of it back.So can he actually do that? That is the question, and the answer involves one sentence he said under oath that he is going to have a very hard time getting around. This episode works through the answer. Kohberger is serving four consecutive life terms for the University of Idaho student murders, handed down after he admitted the killings of Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin in open court. He has now filed to undo that admission entirely, and he filed it himself. We go through the document, the standard he would have to meet, and the exact reason people who work in Idaho courtrooms are not losing sleep over it. We look at who sat beside him the day he pleaded, how long he had been reviewing the evidence before that morning, and the sworn statement that turns his own filing against him.And we get to the letter. Before the plea was ever signed, a prosecutor wrote to these four families and promised them in writing that this could not happen to them. That is where the outrage in this story actually belongs.Kaylee Goncalves' family answered within hours, and their statement does more damage in one paragraph than any legal analyst managed all day.Everything here comes from the docket, the filings, and dated reporting on the University of Idaho case.LINKSJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video?
