In this week's episode, Diosa and Mala unpack what it means to "crash out"—a sudden, often public unraveling of someone’s mental, emotional, or social state. But what exactly does it mean to crash out? And how is it any different from a meltdown? Diosa and Mala reflect on deeper generational shifts in how we process—and perform—mental health crisis. Adult ballet dancer and volunteer studio manager at Dance Theatre Northwest in Washington, Sarah Witherup, joined the studio this month! We spoke about how ballet became not just a passion for her, but a lifeline. As a highly trained endurance athlete, Sarah is no stranger to challenges. But after the loss of her son and at the age of 49, Sarah stepped into a ballet studio for the first time and says it was one of the most difficult and fulfilling steps she's taken. Discovering ballet began a journey that would intertwine with her gender transition, self-discovery, and healing. In this episode, she talks about what it means to enter the traditional and highly structured world of ballet as a transgender woman, how dance became a vital part of stepping fully into her identity, and the challenges and joys she's encountered along the way—from pointe classes and performing on stage to unexpected in studio laughs and dress code dilemmas. Sarah also shares the work she's doing to make ballet more inclusive, including establishing a nonbinary dress code and an adult ballet intensive at Dance Theatre Northwest.Sarah's story reminds dancers to rethink what grace and strength can look like, to take up space inside and outside of the ballet studio, and to consider the importance of finding a place to belong.Follow Sarah on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/witherup2019/Learn more about Dance Theatre Northwest: https://dtnw.org/Check out Dance Theatre Northwest's Adult Ballet Intensive: https://dtnw.org/adult-summer-intensive-program/Learn about Wear Blue: Run to Remember: https://www.wearblueruntoremember.org/Follow The Adult Ballet Studio on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@eblosfield91*This episode discusses suicide, depression and PTSD. Safety in the workplace is critical in any job, but it is tough to achieve on a job that involves construction. Sites can be very dangerous environments as well as the work being very taxing. I reached out to see if Wes Wheeler, NECA's Executive Director of Safety, could discuss the state of safety in construction. It didn't take us long before mental health came up as the focus of our conversation. Wes shares his unique viewpoint on this important topic. As always, when I discuss mental health, I want to remind you of resources made for those working through challenging mental health issues. Remember, these resources are also for you who want to come alongside your loved ones to support their journey. There's the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline (phone and text) which offers 24/7 access to trained crisis counselors who can help people experiencing mental health-related distress. There's also the Crisis Text Line: Text HELLO to 741741. Every person who texts is connected with a crisis counselor who is trained to listen and offer sound advice 24/7 Both are free, confidential, and again if you're struggling with mental health or concerned for a loved one.Wes joined NECA in 2014 and has over 40 years of electrical experience. Prior to NECA, he was safety consultant in his own business and has been a Safety Director and OSHA Safety trainer for a large industrial based electrical contractor in Florida. Wesley is a qualified OSHA Construction Outreach Instructor and has assisted in OSHA Instructor classes for Electrical Training Alliance. Wes has served in many capacities in his career from electrician, foreman, superintendent, estimator, project manager to safety director and is a member of OSHA's Advisory Committee on Construction Safety and Health (ACCSH). His credentials continue, but suffice to say, Wes knows and loves the construction world. It's been a week filled with breaking news and, as usual, investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell are on it, starting with the arrest of Grant Solomon's mother. Grant was 18 years old when he was killed outside of Nashville under mysterious circumstances (and with his father, former news anchor Aaron Solomon, nearby). In the years since his death, Grant's mother has fought for law enforcement to take another look at her son's case and sought for protection for her daughter, who accused Aaron of sexual abuse. This past Friday, Angie Solomon was arrested and charged with attempting to hire a hitman to kill Aaron. Mandy and Liz break down what happened and why the accusations seem … off. Plus, reporter Beth Braden learns that two new witnesses to Grant's death came forward last spring and what they had to say is interesting. Also on the show, Jane Doe No. 1 stands up to Myrtle Beach Pastor John-Paul Miller's legal bullying. Plus a shocking (overlooked?) piece of evidence in the Scott Spivey case … no really, it's wild. Premium members get updates on Russell Laffitte's plea deal, Alex Murdaugh's latest attempts to manipulate dummies and what's up with Cory Fleming's appeal? Let's dive in...
Investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell have great news to share … (00:52) Lee Gilley — the Houston man accused of strangling his wife, killing her and their unborn baby — has been officially indicted by the Grand Jury. This is a big deal — especially considering he's yet another man with resources who seems to think he can buy his way out of consequence with a pricey defense team that includes the likes of Robert Durst's attorney, Dick DeGuerin, and maybe even an image consultant, based on his public behavior as of late. Also on the show, Mandy and Liz take listeners on their first deep dive into the killing of (11:15) Scott Spivey of Tabor City, North Carolina. Thirty-three-year-old Scott was shot to death in a hail of bullets in September 2023 on a rural highway in Horry County, South Carolina. His shooters were never charged in his death and the case was closed in April 2024. But now the FBI has been asked to take a look at the evidence and the No. 2 officer at Horry County Police Department — a good friend of one of the shooters — is under criminal investigation. And yes, that's the same police department that let Mica Francis down time and again in the lead-up to her death … when she reported multiple times that she was being stalked by her estranged husband, “Pastor” John-Paul Miller in Myrtle Beach. And no one would listen... maybe now their ears will perk up. Let's dive in...

Episode Description: In this deeply personal episode of Life Talks with Lauren, I open up about the mental health challenges I've been navigating over the past month. From feeling overwhelmed and emotionally drained to moments where it felt hard to show up at all—I share what it's been like behind the scenes, in hopes that someone out there feels a little less alone. This isn't a polished, picture-perfect episode. It's raw, real, and from the heart. Because the truth is: it's okay to not be okay. And it's more than okay to ask for help when you need it. If you're in a tough season right now, I see you. You are not alone. You are not a burden. And this low point does not define your worth. Let's talk about what it means to give ourselves grace, to reach out when we need support, and to hold on to hope—even when it feels far away. Healing isn't linear, but better days are coming. What You'll Hear in This Episode: An honest check-in on my mental health this past month The shame we often carry around not being “okay” Why asking for help is a strength, not a weakness Simple reminders for anyone struggling with their mental health How I'm starting to feel a little better, day by day Connect with Me: Instagram: @laurenmkepler Email: lauren.m.kepler@gmail.com If this episode resonates with you, please share it with a friend or leave a review—it helps the show reach more people who might need to hear this message today.

Investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell share updates (1:19) about South Carolina's thrice-accused rapist Bowen Turner and his quest to get off the sex offender list, plus the latest in the (2:30) Christa Bauer case in Houston, where her husband, Lee Gilley, stands accused of murdering her and her unborn baby. (3:34) Also on today's show, Mandy and Liz comb through Buster Murdaugh's amended defamation complaint against Warner Brothers and share their thoughts on Buster's arguments and the challenges he and his defendants might face. (39:30) Plus, Myrtle Beach churchy business bro “Pastor” John-Paul Miller is at it again. The LUNASHARK Media team FOIA'd for a 911 call JP placed from his newest mid-scandal church on St. Patrick's Day. Turns out, JP — who stands accused of raping one child and sexually assaulting another — has some sort of homeschool operation happening in a rough-looking strip mall … or at least that's what he told police. Is JP running a quasi school? Or was he just saying this in the hopes of once again getting his revenge against protesters, who were filming him from the public parking lot? And finally, a quick update about Myrtle Beach Police Department's announcement that it reopened and reclosed the (36:22) Chris Skinner case. Let's dive in...
Investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell provide updates on the case of Chris Skinner's suspicious death, Buster Murdaugh's defamation case, Johnnie James' suspicious/not suspicious death and the capital murder charge against Lee Gilley for the death of his pregnant wife Christa Bauer Gilley. [3:37] Hear the latest developments in the tragic and suspicious 2021 drowning death of Chris Skinner, the quadriplegic husband of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, “Pastor” John-Paul Miller's girlfriend, Suzi. In 2024 — after watching video footage of Skinner's final moments and seeing that it didn't seem like his drowning was an “accident” — Mandy and Liz called on the Myrtle Beach Coroner's Office to reopen its investigation into Skinner's death. This past week, that second investigation was finally announced publicly. [18:21] Also on the episode, Buster Murdaugh calls on a federal judge to reconsider his order to split Murdaugh's defamation case against Netflix, Warner Brothers and other defendants. Buster's argument? He'll be presenting evidence to the court proving that he didn't kill Stephen Smith — a gay teenager left for dead on a Hampton County road — including DEPOSITIONS of people who have “personal knowledge” of the events that led to Stephen's death in July 2015. Will Buster end up the hero in bringing justice to the Stephen Smith case? [33:35] Plus, an update on men's rights fan Lee Gilley, who is accused of killing his wife and unborn baby in Houston, Texas, and lying about it. Why is it taking the state so long to indict him and should we be concerned? [50:42] Finally, a correction in the Jane Doe No. 1 case against JP Miller and an appeal for information. Let's dive in...
Today's episode is one that will stir your heart and challenge you to step into the fight for justice. I sit down with Britney Higgs, founder of Her Campaign, an organization dedicated to providing restoration and healing for survivors of human trafficking.Britney's journey is nothing short of incredible. She shares how God took her from a place of personal trauma and brokenness to a calling she never expected—standing in the gap for women who have endured the unimaginable. What started as a simple “yes” to God turned into a movement. For over three years, Britney and her family opened their home to survivors of trafficking, integrating them into a family system that provided deeper healing than any program they had ever been in. But as they walked alongside these women, they recognized a critical gap: survivors needed a stabilization phase before they could truly begin to heal. So, they pioneered an 8-week emergency stabilization program—a safe place where survivors could begin recovering body, mind, and spirit before stepping into long-term restoration. And now? Her Campaign is seeing transformation like never before. Survivors are not just healing—they're leading. Some have even stepped onto staff, walking alongside others with the same compassion and hope they once needed themselves. In this conversation, we dive into:✨ How childhood trauma led Britney to believe lies about her worth and identity✨ The moment she heard God's voice for the first time—and how it changed everything✨ Her journey from a comfortable entrepreneurial life to high-risk missions overseas✨ What she learned from survivors in Iraq and why she couldn't turn away✨ The call to establish safe homes in the U.S. and how Her Campaign was born✨ The power of family-centered healing in survivor restoration✨ Why stabilization is a missing link in survivor care across the nation✨ How God uses even the darkest places to bring His glory and redemptionAnd at the core of it all? The unwavering belief that God truly does use what the world calls foolish to confound the wise (1 Corinthians 1:27). That His heart is always for restoration, even in the midst of suffering. If you've ever wrestled with how a good God could bring beauty from unthinkable pain, this episode will root you in Romans 8:18—what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory He will reveal to us later.Bio:Britney Higgs lives in Billings with her husband, Sammy, and their four children. Together they founded HER Campaign, a non-profit organization that provides residential programs for survivors of human trafficking. She is an advocate for freedom and passionate about cultivating a culture of community living and ecosystem of holistic care for survivors of human trafficking.Anchor Verses:Psalm 68Romans 8:18Connect with Britney:LINKTREE: https://linktr.ee/britneyhiggsIG: https://www.instagram.com/britneyhiggsHER Campaign:Website: https://hercampaign.orgHER Campaign: https://www.instagram.com/hercampaignLinktree: https://linktr.ee/hercampaignCRISIS SUPPORTIf this is an emergency, please dial 911.For Suicide prevention please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255, for free confidential, 24/7 help. After hearing news about the latest plot twist in the Mica Francis case, investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell are taking another look into the day Mica allegedly took her own life in a North Carolina swamp and the mysterious “witness” to her very last moments … who turned up dead last week. The story of Johnnie Jacobs — aka the “fisherman” who heard Mica crying until it was stopped by what he said was a single gunshot — raised a lot of red flags over the past year after he admitted taking Mica's purse, leaving the park and then returning with it to hand over to police. From the start, his story was strange and filled with curious inconsistencies, causing followers of Mica's case to question whether he was connected to Mica's husband, Myrtle Beach pastor and accused child rapist and sexual assaulter John-Paul Miller. On Friday, he died in a two-car crash, leading to the biggest red flag of all … is this evidence that Johnnie Jacobs knew too much? Also on today's episode, Mandy and Liz share updates in the Jane Doe No. 1 case against JP Miller, as well on JP's latest legal loss, after settling with a random woman he sued over nothing. Plus an update on the Christa Bauer case out of Houston, Texas, and her husband (and accused murderer) Lee Gilley's upcoming hearing. Switching gears, Mandy and Liz bring you an important conversation with Karl Stoller, the father of Dallas Stoller, as he shares his frustrations with the justice system's handling of her alleged rapist Bowen Turner and his third parole violation. Karl recounts being silenced at a hearing and expresses his deep concerns about the continued leniency shown to Bowen, a Good Ole Boy with a disturbing pattern of behavior Join us as we shine a "true sunlight" on these troubling cases and the persistent issues plaguing the legal landscape in South Carolina and beyond. This episode is jam-packed with updates... so let's dive in...
Welcome back to a very special episode of The Food For ThoughtCast. In Episode 99, Stephen and Melissa are talking about mental health in kitchens and the hospitality industry. We usually bring you some tasty recipe ideas or tales of where we ate on our travels, or just general food information- but none of these amazing experiences happen without being first connected to a human being. Until the AI takes over the cooking process, it will always start with a person! We hope you enjoy today's episode, even though it is different, and thanks for letting us be vulnerable. Find us in all the podcast places and on YouTube. Thanks so much for listening and watching. DARVO was coined by Dr. Jennifer Freyd in the 1990s and stands for “Deny, Attack, and Reverse Victim and Offender.” DARVO is a common defense strategy by perpetrators, narcissists, and offenders of both criminal and noncriminal harm when they wish to deflect accountability for their actions.Despite how common DARVO is both individually in relationships as well as on a larger scale (e.g., corporate and government level), it isn't talked about very often. DARVO is highly effective at silencing victims. But I'm hopeful that by sharing knowledge of how DARVO operates, we can empower ourselves and our society to combat it.In this episode, we discuss the dynamics of DARVO, as well as the ways it can suppress whistleblowers and negatively impact their wellbeing.I know it's a weighty topic for this episode, but it feels highly useful for all of us to have this knowledge handy, whether to advocate for ourselves or to better support our clients in identifying DARVO and successfully holding others accountable. You can find the shorter, less in-depth version of this episode here:https://youtu.be/zhAZfcin3YYNational Domestic Violence Hotline:https://www.thehotline.org/Crisis Text Line:https://www.crisistextline.org/"How to Handle the DARVO Method"https://sentientcounselling.co.uk/2023/03/21/how-to-handle-the-darvo-method/Thank you to Paubox for sponsoring this episode. This week, investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell — with the help of reporter and researcher Beth Braden — share Part One of the elusive 1989 WPDE investigative news report on the sexual allegations against JP Miller's father (exclusively obtained by LunaShark Media through a whole lot of peskiness. Up until today this news segment hasn't been available to the public … possibly since 1993 when it last aired in the Florence and Myrtle Beach areas. Today, we dive in deep on previously unknown information about alleged sex predator Wayne Miller and the cover-up that he and his colleagues appeared to take part in. Also on the show, Horry County Police Department reopens its (pathetic) investigation into the 2023 shooting death of North Carolina man Scott Spivey. On Wednesday — just one day after the resignation of Horry County assistant police chief Brandon Strickland — Horry County announced that there were unresolved questions in the closed case and it was being referred to the FBI. What's weird is that Strickland appears to have been friends with at one of the shooters, North Myrtle Beach restaurant owner Weldon Boyd. And what's even more strange is the case already underwent a review by SLED and South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson's office. Does does this mean there's a chance of Scott's family seeing justice? The stigma surrounding mental health has various impacts on individuals, such as preventing them from seeking treatment and causing discrimination in the workplace. Addressing stigma can lead to better access to care and resources for those with mental health conditions, as well as promoting social inclusion and empowerment for individuals to manage their health and pursue their goals. It can also foster a stronger, more diverse community. During the podcast, Felipe Blue, LCAS, LCMHCA, CCS discuss the importance of mental health and the challenges faced by marginalized communities when it comes to accessing mental health resources. He is joined by two preseasoned therapists, Alex Hatley and Alexis Prunczic, who share their personal experiences and insights on the topic. Together, they discuss the impact of systemic racism, poverty, and other social factors on mental health and how community involvement can help in raising awareness and promoting access to mental health services. They emphasize the need for Stigma around mental health needs to be addressed in order to promote well-being and reduce discrimination against those living with mental health challenges. There is also self-stigma where individuals put themselves down or identify strongly with their diagnosis. Structural stigma is when societal structures create an environment of stigmatizing certain groups, such as those in the LGBTQ+ community or low-income individuals. The consequences of mental health stigma can include individuals not seeking This was a conversation about the stigma surrounding mental health and the barriers that prevent people from seeking help. This week's guest is Michelle Vignault, who opens her heart about the unimaginable journey of losing both her brother to suicide and her husband within just six months. Michelle shares how she was suddenly thrust into solo parenting two daughters, ages 2 and 4 while navigating her own overwhelming grief. With raw honesty, Michelle reveals how writing became her lifeline—beginning as simple notes and evolving into heartfelt letters to her best friend before ultimately becoming her book, "Hold Back the Rain," titled after a meaningful Duran Duran song that resonated with her struggle to withstand life's torrential challenges. Despite eight years passing since these profound losses, Michelle vulnerably shares her recent unexpected grief relapse, reminding us that healing isn't linear, and even when we feel strong, grief can suddenly knock us off our feet. Our conversation tenderly explores how Michelle has broken generational patterns by creating space for open communication with her daughters. She uses honest, distraction-free moments to help them process their feelings while allowing herself to express her own sadness and anger authentically and openly. The poignant image on her book cover—capturing Michelle with her daughters as they release her husband's ashes—symbolizes their transformed family and the quiet strength they've discovered together. It offers listeners a touching testament to how families can find their way forward through devastating loss with love, honesty, and resilience. Michelle's story reminds us that while we cannot hold back the rain of grief, we can learn to dance in it, finding moments of connection and growth even in our darkest hours. Her journey inspires us to embrace vulnerability as strength and to recognize that healing happens in community—whether through writing, honest conversations, or the simple act of showing up for ourselves and our loved ones day after day. This week, investigative journalists — Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell — broke news that a second Jane Doe case had been filed against Myrtle Beach pastor John-Paul Miller, accusing him of sexually abusing a 14-year-old student at Cathedral Hall Academy (formerly known as Grand Strand Academy), a school owned JP's father Wayne Miller, who is named as a co-defendant in the case. In 1999, when JP Miller was 20 years old he allegedly molested the child after inviting her to play piano with him alone in the church sanctuary. The girl told a teacher about what JP allegedly did and instead of the school offering the child help, she was forced to write “I will not lie about JP Miller” 5,000 times. Mandy and Liz break down the latest allegations against the Millers and share text messages between JP, his ex-wife and Mica from 2022 or before that addresses the child sexual abuse allegations against JP. Also on the show, part one of the history of the Millers' alleged scheme to use their school as a staging ground for abuse. Plus an update on the Justice for Mica protesters and JP's frivolous lawsuits against them. Let's dive in...

We're venturing to Garfagnana, Italy, in the Year of Our Lord 1347, for a raunchy comedy based on The Decameron by Giovanni Boccaccio. In the film, three medieval nuns lead a simple life in their convent until a virile young servant who's been forced into hiding by his angry lord appears, and the repressed nunnery erupts in a whirlwind of pansexual horniness, substance abuse, and wicked revelry. The film, written and directed by Jeff Baena, has an all-star cast, including Alison Brie, Aubrey Plaza, Kate Micucci, Dave Franco, Jemima Kirk, John C. Reilly, Molly Shannon, Fred Armisen, and Nick Offerman. Baena, who passed away earlier this year, was married to co-star Aubrey Plaza. In their review, the Catholic League called the film “pure trash.” But is the price of admission into this Garden of Earthly Delights worth the penance, or do we love the sin but hate the sinner? I sit down with Christina Keyes, a remarkable woman who transformed her life from a career-driven professional to a dedicated caregiver of her mother in 2013, after her mother nearly died of a stroke, only six months after the death of her father. Around this same time frame, Christina was also grieving the loss of a dear cousin who was responsible for Christina getting sober. However, the grief doesn't stop there. Christina was also grieving the end of a 17-year relationship as she knew it when her partner suffered a life-altering stroke, which resulted in him having to go into an adult care facility. Christina's story is about resilience, compassion, and turning personal grief into a powerful message of hope and advocacy. She shares the emotional rollercoaster of caregiving, from the sleepless nights filled with worry to the profound moments of connection with her mother. She opens up about the challenges of balancing her own needs with those of her loved ones and the unexpected blessings that emerged along the way. Her candid reflections offer invaluable insights into caregiving, grief, and personal growth. Now a national speaker and the founder of Keys for Caregiving, Christina aims to transform the caregiving space by connecting businesses and family caregivers to foster a supportive community. Her advocacy work amplifies the voices of caregivers, championing for change and understanding in a field often overlooked.Christina's story is an inspiring journey of love, loss, and the power of turning a mess into a message and a test into a testimony, as Christina says. Whether you're a caregiver, experiencing grief, or seeking inspiration, this episode is filled with warmth, wisdom, and the reminder that we can grow through what we go through.Tune in to discover how Christina's story can inspire your own path of healing and empowerment. Investigative journalists — Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell — broke major news this past Tuesday with the announcement that Myrtle Beach pastor JP Miller has been accused of raping a 15-year-old girl at his father's church, Cathedral Baptist Church (formerly All Nations Church), in 1998 and again sexually assaulting her in 2023. The lawsuit was filed by Jane Doe No. 1 against John-Paul Miller, Reginald Wayne Miller, and their churches, including Solid Rock Ministries. Mandy and Liz share details of the lawsuit while connecting the dots on what was happening in JP's life at the time. Plus, they sit for an interview with Rock Hill attorney Randy Hood of McGowan, Hood, Felder and Phillips law firm, who is representing Jane, to learn more about Jane's case and what the world of litigating institutional child sexual abuse looks like. Hood is no stranger to suing churches on behalf of sexual assault victims. He also represents clients in the case against Morningstar Fellowship Church in Fort Mill, South Carolina. On Tuesday, Mandy and Liz also broke the very important news that attorney Mark Tinsley from the Murdaugh Murders trial — aka Zero Dark Tinsley and Tiger Tinsley — is also representing Jane in her case against the Millers. Also on the show, JP Miller appeared in Magistrate Court on Wednesday for a hearing related to seven of his cases against protesters and … well, he did a terrible job, as expected… The premium extended episode includes a play-by-play featuring the most pertinent highlights. Investigative journalists — Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell have encountered one of the strangest things they've ever seen from a murder suspect who hasn't even been arraigned yet … a campaign website! Last week a listener sent in a tip about former South Carolina resident Lee Gilley, who is facing a Capital Murder charge in Houston, Texas, in the October 2024 death of his wife, Christa Bauer and their unborn child. A website had been published about Lee and his life as an apparently flawless human being incapable of murder. It's yet another brazen move from an entitled good ole boy who thinks the normal procedures of the justice system don't apply to him. Also on the show, a follow-up on the YouTube creator who is being sued by JP Miller. Plus, updates on Bowen Turner's alleged parole violations and Buster Murdaugh's defamation case. Plus, we'll update you on the latest in the Peter J. Strauss case who's sentencing is set for 2pm on February 20th in Charleston. Let's dive in...

Once again, investigative journalists — aka “bloggers,” “viral podcasters,” “spewers of bilious screed” and “self-proclaimed journalists”— Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell have to tear up the script as their usual onslaught of breaking news hits on production day … but this time, they only have themselves to blame. On Tuesday, Mandy received a tip that thrice-accused rapist Bowen Turner, of Orangeburg, South Carolina, had been at his county golf course that morning throwing back beers in direct violation of his latest parole conditions. With receipts in hand, Mandy immediately went to the authorities and ole Bowen Turner was arrested that evening. On today's episode, Mandy and Liz talk about the behind the scenes of Bowen's latest run-in with the law and what happens next, plus they share recordings of Bowen talking with his parents in the days before and after his latest parole hearing this past September. One thing they learned? Bowen's dad had predicted Bowen's golf club demise on Tuesday. Also on the show, the latest in the Mica Francis case and JP Miller's collection of frivolous lawsuits against peaceful protesters — including an email that JP sent to three of the defendants' lawyer, offering his unsolicited ideas on how they can settle his cases against them. Premium members will get an extended episode cut, featuring Bowen Turner's latest attempt as getting off the sex offender registry. Let's dive in...
Investigative journalists — aka “bloggers,” “viral podcasters,” “spewers of bilious screed” and “self-proclaimed journalists”— Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell continue their in-depth coverage of the Mica Francis case with the latest on Pastor JP Miller's legal bullying of protesters and content creators. On Wednesday, two more cases against the protesters were dropped, making that three out of 33. Already, JP's sloppy attempts at silencing his detractors are being called out in court. Also on the show, a rundown of the accusations JP is making against the protesters and creators and a look at court documents that outline what appears to have been an ethically ambiguous relationship between JP and a neighbor, who purports to be a member of the media and therefore protected from JP's legal retaliations. As JP seeks to once again take Jan Lancaster to court, Mandy and Liz explore the reasons why this one case should be considered separately from the solitary injustice happening with the rest of the protester-defendants. Plus, an update in the Christa Bauer Gilley case. Let's dive in...

Investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell continue shining sunlight on the Mica Francis story. On today's episode, a former church member being sued by JP Miller turns the tables on him with a fiery counterclaim. According to court filings, THREE DAYS before Mica's death, JP asked this church member to write “Dedicated to Mica” on the website of the church's Dare2Care program, a mission that was important to Mica. Was this unfortunate timing? Or does this point to something more nefarious? The former church member also accuses JP of using his pulpit to shame and bully Mica and of retaliation after the church member and his wife decided they'd had enough of him and left the church. Also on the show, in one of the most deranged calls to 911 yet, JP tells police that protesters are yelling the 'n-word' at church members and could “pull a gun” at any minute and he describes them as blondes, wearing sweaters and no makeup. Was this JP setting the stage for the lawsuits he filed five days later? Plus, an update in the Sara Lynn Colucci case and Christa Bauer case. This episode gets deeper into these very twisted stories... Let's dive in...

But here's the twist: this is the same man accused of stalking his late wife, Mica, who was denied a restraining order against him.... On today's episode, the LUNASHARK Team received the official coroner's report in the death of Chris Skinner, the quadriplegic man who drowned in his neighborhood pool shortly after he reportedly confronted his wife, Suzie, and Pastor JP Miller about their alleged affair. Was it an accident, as ruled? Or is there more to the story? We examine discrepancies in the official reports of how Chris ended up in the water... and video footage that suggest it may have been intentional...? Also on the show, an intake form from a family law firm that JP Miller appears to have consulted in February 2024 for representation in his divorce contains some VERY interesting information, including the name of the person who referred him to the firm. Plus, JP is now suing 13 protesters and creators in Magistrate Court and we have some more insight into what he's up to. According to a summons and complaint that was served on one of the protesters, JP is seeking a restraining order, claiming he is being harassed and he's seeking $7,500 in damages in an invasion of privacy claim. We are officially in the Upside-Down now. After combing through JP's claims, Mandy and Liz have a message for the judge … This episode gets deeper into these very twisted stories... so let's dive in. Investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell continue their deep dive into the Mica Francis case in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Today's episode begins with a clarification concerning Mica's divorce attorney Regina Ward and the settlement terms reached between JP Miller and Mica's family this past summer. Also on the show, in a press conference in June 2024, Regina Ward shared a list of abuses that Mica allegedly experienced at the hands of Pastor JP Miller … alleged abuses that mirror a proposed coercive control law that failed three times to make it out of state legislative committee. In that press briefing, Regina said that had this law been enacted before Mica's death there was a possibility it could have saved her life. Mandy and Liz take another look at the proposed law and a provision that seems like it would have protected JP more than it would have protected Mica. Plus, JP is up to his old antics and has filed 10 new civil lawsuits against an assortment of protesters and content creators. And Part Two of the very cozy and strange emails JP Miller and his righthand woman Tricia Ross sent to police regarding Mica. Also, as we continue to cover the Christa Bauer murder in Houston, Texas, please consider donating to Christa's family's Go Fund Me as we have. Christa's husband awaits trial in the murder of Christa and their unborn baby and her family has had to temporarily move to Texas to take care of Christa's two young children, Maddie and Gannon because the court thinks the children belong there as opposed to South Carolina, where the hub of their support system is. Investigative journalists — and proud “podcasters” — Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell reveal the latest in the Mica Francis story, starting with emails from JP Miller and his sidekick Tricia Ross that were sent to police days after Mica's death, urging the police to investigate one of their own in connection to Mica's death. Yes, seriously. Turns out May 2 was a very bad day for JP Miller. Not only did he have to explain himself to his partners at the Myrtle Beach bar he had a stake in, he seemed to be on a war path as he pointed his finger at Heather Wilson, his alleged former ally at Horry County Police Department. JP — demonstrating once again that he thinks the police work directly for him — wanted the department to investigate Heather for Mica's death because she is the mother of the man Mica was hanging out with on March 11 and the man who JP later called and berated. Mandy and Liz share the first installment of the texts and emails that came back from reporter Beth Braden's FOIA for communications between JP and the police. Also on the show, how did the waterfront home in Myrtle Beach that Wayne Miller tried to get the courts to force an octogenarian widow who was thought to have dementia to sell end up getting sold to attorney Regina Ward … the attorney who represented Mica in her pending divorce and later Mica's family in their quest to hold JP and his church accountable? We have the scoop — including an interview between Beth and Regina. From the Alex Murdaugh trial's alleged jury tampering and subsequent appeals; investigations into the deaths of Stephen Smith and Mica Miller, examining potential foul play; and the ongoing legal battles surrounding Bowen Turner and Michael Colucci, both facing multiple accusations of serious crimes — we covered a lot of cases and controversies in 2024. Also this year, we added tragic death of Christa Bauer Gilley to our focus, and continued our focus on advocacy for victims' rights reform, specifically concerning coercive control. On this special episode of True Sunlight, the team of journalists looks back on the madness in the South Carolina Justice System, plus another shocking update in the Myrtle Beach church world related to JP Miller and Solid Rock. With our new billboards around the state and our coverage seeking answers, we hope to shake loose information in Stephen smiths case and Sandy hopes to hear back from SLED early in 2025. We are also actively seeking partners to create a new event in July that will celebrate Stephen Smith's life and draw attention to the 10 years that have passed without justice since his death. Investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Beth Braden look at the actions and interactions of JP Miller, a South Carolina pastor, following the death of his wife, Mica Miller. Our investigation dives into 'sooooo' many police reports filed involving Miller, his church, and protestors, raising questions about potential police bias and insufficient investigations into serious allegations against Miller, including potential human trafficking and assault. The reports also highlight Miller's frequent traffic violations and his apparent disregard for advice to avoid further police attention, especially given an ongoing FBI investigation. The overall narrative suggests a pattern of questionable behavior by both JP Miller and local law enforcement. Investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell - along with researcher and reporter Beth Braden - take a fresh look at what Myrtle Beach Pastor JP Miller seemed to be saying in his bizarre ramblings in front of his congregation the day after his wife, Mica Francis, died. And then they go back even further to explore the insidious messages JP seems to have received from his semi-famous father, Pastor Wayne Miller, during his divorce from JP's mom in 2001. From telling the court about “unexplained lingerie” and “unwholesome” conversations over AOL, Wayne Miller responded to his estranged wife's accusations with a fiery vengeance as he sought to maintain custody of his children and pay zero dollars and zero cents in alimony. Also on the show, journalist/researcher Beth Braden reports on the latest strange dealings that appear to have grown from Solid Rock Ministries, specifically a massive transfer of assets to JP's assistant AND a new nonprofit filing attached to several people in the JP MIller ecosystem. Investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell have spent months behind-the-scenes — along with researcher and reporter Beth Braden — trying to piece together what happened to Mica Francis in the 34 minutes between when she left for work on April 27 and when she bought a gun shortly before allegedly killing herself in a North Carolina swamp. And now they have a theory about what would have been bad enough for Mica to think she had to take her own life. As they await the outcome of the FBI's investigation into Mica's estranged husband Myrtle Beach Pastor JP Miller, they re-examine the evidence and piece it together with NEW information gleaned from sources. Three words: History repeats itself. Also on the show, alleged Murdaugh co-conspirator Russell Laffitte has his first state court appearance since his federal conviction was overturned last month. And Alex Murdaugh gets creative with his latest 132-page appellate brief in his quest for a new murder trial. The Mica Francis case takes another turn as Solid Rock moves to "The Rate Hole". Questions continue to be raised about what Myrtle Beach Pastor JP Miller knew about his estranged wife's death on the night her body was found in a North Carolina swamp … and when he knew it. Are those questions fair? Are they warranted? Are they just the beginning to figuring out what happened to Mica Francis in April 2024? Investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell take a second look at old pieces of the puzzle and put them together with new information and offer their perspective on how investigators regarded JP Miller from the very beginning and why it seemed to rattle him. Also on the show, an update on Russell Laffitte's federal retrial and his attorney's infamous delay tactics, as well as the possibility of South Carolina Attorney General's Office prosecutor Creighton Waters getting his turn at putting Russell behind bars sooner rather than later. Less than three years before Mica Francis' body was found in a North Carolina swamp after her alleged suicide, there was another strange death near Solid Rock at Market Common, the Myrtle Beach church that belonged to Mica's husband Pastor JP Miller. That's the death of Chris Skinner, the 41-year-old quadriplegic man who was married to the woman JP was allegedly having an affair with at the time — the same woman JP has routinely been photographed with since Mica's death in April. Chris was found in his wheelchair at the bottom of his neighborhood pool. Investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell take a look at Chris' inspiring story of determination and hope — at who he was BEFORE he entered into JP's ecosystem in 2018. They also take a deeper look into his death, the ensuing investigation and the strange coincidences and inconsistencies that exist between his and Mica's cases. Was Chris at the pool this morning because he was meeting someone to play chess? Or did he go there because he had lost hope? Chris' wife Suzie told police that he wasn't suicidal and she later referred to his death as having been a result of getting too close to the edge of the pool. But that's not what surveillance footage shows. And what role did JP's alleged relationship with Suzie play in Chris' death and Mica's desire to divorce JP? JP and Suzie have reportedly denied having an affair. And JP has denied any and all allegations related to Mica's death and her allegations of coercive control abuse during their marriage. Also on the show, alleged Alex Murdaugh co-conspirator Russell Laffitte is out of prison and home for the holidays and what will it take for courts to take women seriously when they ask for restraining orders against the men they fear? After investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell wrapped up last week's episode — in which Mandy wondered when we'd ever see Myrtle Beach pastor JP Miller in handcuffs — they got their wish. JP spent one glorious night in jail after a physical confrontation between him and a female protester. And the drama didn't end there... On today's episode we look at what went down between JP and the protester as well as everything that was revealed in a May 2 recording of JP talking to his business partners about Mica Francis' death days earlier. Also we look at what Mica's medical records tell us about the three years after her alleged first suicide attempt. Plus, updates in the Christa Bauer Gilley case in Houston Heights, Texas, including the quest for Lee Gilley's jailhouse phone calls and a look at his newest attorney …. whose name is Dick. But not that Dick! Star criminal defense lawyer Dick DeGuerin, who defended the likes of David Koresh and Robert Durst, has joined Lee's defense team, in what's turning out to be another example of a wealthy man trying to buy his way out of accountability. Justice for Mica Miller is percolating six months and more than 20 episodes after investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell began reporting her the death and what her life looked like in the leadup to it. On Friday, the FBI finally moved in on Mica's husband... Myrtle Beach Pastor JP Miller, who stands accused of harassing, stalking and coercively controlling her during their marriage. For more than five hours, around two dozen federal agents searched his house and left with computers and boxes of alleged evidence. On this deep dive episode, Mandy, Liz and reporter Beth Braden — talk about how the raid unfolded and what happens next. Days after the raid, JP's church, Solid Rock At Market Common, appears to have shut its doors for good... What is JP doing with all the church's assets...? Look like a fire-sale to commemorate the occasion. Plus, updates in the Bowen Turner case and the terms of his parole. Thrice accused rapist Bowen Turner is getting out of prison on Halloween, and in this episode, journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell warn the women of South Carolina while explaining who is responsible for the systemic failure that led to Turner's swift release. Did Assistant Solicitor Kevin Hope fail when he agreed to the plea sentence for Turner's resisting arrest charge? Did Bowen change? How is Bowen Turner getting out of prison? This wildly important episode focuses on the Bowen Turner case, highlighting a series of alleged failures within the South Carolina justice system that allowed a man accused of multiple rapes to be released from prison AGAIN. We also explore similar instances of alleged bias in the justice system, specifically towards men from privileged backgrounds, and compare Turner's treatment to other, often less privileged, individuals involved in confrontations with law enforcement. We also critique the use of the Youthful Offender Act (YOA) in Turner's case, questioning its applicability given the seriousness of the charges and the apparent lack of rehabilitation effort on Turner's part…. The team also sheds light on the most recent news on Myrtle Beach pastor JP Miller and Solid Rock church in their rebranding efforts after Mica Francis' death.
