Sunando Bhattacharya spent 13 years as a business leader in managed IT services companies in India before starting his own cloud tech services business. This company grew slowly and an opportunity arose to create a software product for one of their clients. Two years later, in 2019, they had a few more Apiculus product customers and focused more on the product. Apiculus is a complete "cloud-as-a-service" software platform for data centers to offer, sell, deploy, and manage cloud data services for their own customers. They focused on smaller data centers in emerging markets, including Nepal, Oman, Rwanda, and others in the Middle East and Africa. The Apiculus business grew as it turned into a product-first company. They overcame many challenges during COVD and with customers and partners that didn't work out. In 2024, the company was acquired by Yotta, and Indian cloud technology company, in a strategic acquisition. Quote from Sunando Bhattacharya, founder of Apiculus "Somebody asked me what one thing you want for your company. I said I wanted my company featured on Great Places to Work. It's very important that the team that works with me finds this a great place to work. "The only secret ingredient for tech companies is people. It's people who make the technology. And if you take care of your team, you take care of your people, you will always do well. "This isn't just for services companies. Talent and ability are important. But for somebody to bring their best every day to work and deliver something world-class, which is world-beating, it needs a very different level of passion. And that passion will only come from your team if you take care for them." As you have probably heard by now the U.S. government is rolling out the new COVID shot. They are recommending it for all people. In fact the COVID booster, RSV and the seasonal flu vaccine are being rolled into one. Is this a good thing? No one knows because it has never been studied. Individuals 5 years of age and older regardless of previous shot status will be eligible to receive a single dose shot. Those who have been following the evidence of course realize the previous shots have been woefully ineffective, offering minimal protection at best and for only a short period of time. And perhaps most importantly the benefit risk ratio is well understood to be markedly skewed toward "high risk" and minimal benefit for most people. Learn about this year's variant, the latest on the effectiveness of masks and what you should do to protect you and your family this winter.
Welcome to this episode of 20/20 Money! My guest on today's show is Dr. Heidi Bell, OD, FCOVD. Heidi is a partner in Elite Eyecare, which houses Elite Vision Therapy within the practice and joins me on the show to talk about the success and passion she has for vision therapy and how following that passion has led to incredible success in the practice and fulfillment for her—personally and professionally. This was a very enjoyable conversation and we start off by talking about her journey in practice ownership and how a focus on vision therapy took hold in the practice and what it's meant to her, her team, and her patients. She shares both the strategy and tactics that worked well and what didn't work when building out VT inside of the practice. She also talks about her pricing model and what the economics of VT have meant to the overall financial success of the practice. She also shares a number of resources that have helped her through the various stages of VT success in her practice as well as what steps you should consider taking if you're considering implementing vision therapy inside of your practice. And one final note, Heidi did confirm the percentage revenue from VT to be around 20% with the caveat that it can be difficult to nail down that number as there's a trickle effect from VT patients and “cross-pollination” of revenue, so the 20% is likely low. This last point will make a lot more sense towards the end of this conversation. As a reminder, you can get all the information discussed in today's conversation by visiting our website at integratedpwm.com and clicking on the Learning Center. While there, be sure to subscribe to our monthly “planning life on purpose” newsletter that's filled with tips and ideas to help you plan life on purpose. You can also set up a Triage conversation to learn a little bit more about how we serve in the capacity of a personal and professional CFO: helping OD practice owners around the country reduce their tax bill, proactively manage cash flow, and make prudent investment decisions both in and out of their practice to help them live their best life on purpose. Hi friends, we will be on hiatus for the fall. To tide you over, we're putting up some favorite episodes from our archives. Enjoy! ——— There's an old view of the mind that goes something like this: The world is flooding in, and we're sitting back, just trying to process it all. Our minds are basically passive and reactive, always a step behind. Contrast that view with a new one that's quickly gaining ground. According to this alternative, we don't just react to the world, we anticipate it. We're not leaning back but trying to stay a step ahead—our minds are fundamentally active and predictive. And our predictions aren't just idle guesses, either—they're shaping how we experience the world. This new view is known as the “predictive processing framework”, and it has implications, not just for how we perceive, but also for how we act and how we feel, for our happiness and our well-being. My guest today is Dr. Mark Miller. Mark is a philosopher of cognition and senior research fellow at the Centre for Consciousness and Contemplative Studies at Monash University. He's part of a new wave of intensely interdisciplinary scholars who are working at the intersections of philosophy, neuroscience, and psychiatry. Here, Mark and I sketch the predictive processing framework and unpack some of its key pillars. We discuss how this approach can inform our understanding of depression, addiction, and PTSD. We sketch out notions of loops and slopes, stickiness and rigidity, wobble and volatility, edges and grip. And, on the way, we will have a bit to say about video games, play, horror, psychedelics, and meditation. This was all pretty new terrain for me, but Mark proved an affable and capable guide. If you enjoy this episode and want to explore some of these topics further, definitely check out the Contemplative Science Podcast, which Mark co-hosts. Alright friends, on to my chat with Mark Miller. Enjoy! A transcript of this episode is available here. On Tuesday night it will be mostly cloudy, with a low of around 29 degrees. As mentioned, the weather was a bit weird on Monday, as you probably noticed.A tornado touched down near Williamsburg Monday — the first time the state has seen a January tornado in more than 50 years. The tornado was reported on the ground at 2:01 p.m. and traveled northeast, prompting warnings across a swath of Eastern Iowa. It was cleared within a couple of hours, according to Tom Phillip, a meteorologist with the Quad Cities National Weather Service Office. The tornado warning area covered parts of Benton, Johnson, Jones, Linn and Iowa Counties. The exact path of the tornado hasn't been determined yet, but Phillip said the NWS office will be releasing more information when it's available. No injuries have been reported. This is the first tornado Iowa has seen in January since Jan. 24, 1967, Phillip said.In addition to the tornado, there were reports of hail in Eastern Iowa, including 1 inch in Homestead, and 3/4 of an inch near Shueyville. Quarter-inch hail was reported in Williamsburg, Mount Vernon, Lisbon and Manchester.Temperatures across Iowa were unseasonably warm Monday. The normal high temperature is usually around 27 degrees, but according to the National Weather Service, Cedar Rapids saw a high of 50 degrees on Monday. We're entering into the phase of Covid-19 where we can compare different generations of vaccines to each other.Although just 39 percent of Americans 65 and older have had both the initial COVID vaccine series plus an updated bivalent booster against the omicron strain, new University of Iowa-involved research shows “significant protection” from that bivalent shot among those older adults.Specifically, Americans in that older age range who got the updated booster were found to be 84 percent less likely to be hospitalized with COVD than unvaccinated people and 73 percent less likely to be hospitalized than those who were vaccinated to some degree — but not with the bivalent booster, according to research published Dec. 30 by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.Nationally, over 400,000 COVID cases were reported for the week Jan. 11 — up from weekly counts in the 200,000s in October and November and from weekly counts under 200,000 last March and April. Weekly COVID deaths nationally jumped to 3,907 on Jan. 11, up from 2,705 the week prior.A man fatally shot last week while breaking and entering had previously lived in the house he was breaking into, according to court documents.Patrick M. O'Brine, 30, was shot by a man living in a home in the 300 block of South Sycamore Street in Monticello. The man called 911 at 1:48 a.m. Wednesday to report that someone was attempting to break into the house, where he was home with a 10-year-old child, according to a news release from the Monticello Police Department. Before law enforcement arrived, the man shot O'Brine, who had managed to get into the house and confronted him. The man and the child were not harmed.A petition for custody of minor children filed in Jones County Court by O'Brine in September states that O'Brine previously lived at the house on South Sycamore Street with the mother of his children, though O'Brine and the woman in question had both since moved before the shooting.

Biden made the comments Wednesday at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, saying that it's his "intention" to visit the border during his trip to the North American Leaders' Summit on Jan. 9-10, which will include meetings with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador. The visit would mark Biden's first trip to the border during his presidency. People familiar with discussions surrounding the potential visit told the Wall Street Journal that Biden will not be making a policy announcement if he visits the border. The potential trip comes amid a record-breaking crisis at the southern border, with 617, 250 total migrant encounters occurring so far in FY 2023 as of Dec. 29, 2022, according to Customs and Border Protection sources, adding that there's an average of 6,858 encounters per day. In FY 2022, migrant encounters reached 2.3 million. On Dec. 6, Biden said that "there are more important things going on" when asked why he'd visit a border state but not the U.S. -Mexico border itself. The Biden administration has pushed for Title 42 — the pandemic-era policy which allows immigration officers to quickly remove migrants from the country on the basis of public health — to be lifted. After U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan ruled in favor of immigration advocates and gave Title 42 an end date of Dec. 21, the Supreme Court temporarily halted the policy's termination. Without providing evidence, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in November that Biden has been to the border. https://www.theepochtimes.com/white-house-defends-covid-travel-restrictions-as-beijing-threatens-countermeasures_4961495.html?utm_source=partner&utm_campaign=BonginoReport Now from the southern border, to this! The Biden administration said there was no cause for retaliation from Beijing after its communist leadership criticized Washington’s decision to require a negative COVID-19 test from those who travel from China to the United States. “There’s no cause for retaliation here just because countries around the world are taking prudent health measures to protect their citizens,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said during a Jan. 3 press conference. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP), which rules China as a single-party state, announced that it will reopen its borders on Jan. 8. The move comes just one month after the regime abruptly terminated its zero-COVID policy in response to mass unrest, causing cases of COVID-19 to surge throughout China. The move prompted a global outcry, and nations around the world are hurrying to put in place testing requirements for all arrivals from China. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a statement on Dec. 28, 2022, saying that passengers would need to present a negative COVID-19 test result or proof of recovery before boarding a U.S.-bound flight from China. The CDC said the move was meant to “slow the spread of COVID-19 in the United States during the surge in COVID-19 cases in the PRC [People’s Republic of China] given the lack of adequate and transparent epidemiological and viral genomic sequence data being reported from the PRC.” The United States joins the UK, Australia, Canada, France, India, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Spain, Malaysia, Qatar, and other nations seeking to place stronger restrictions on arrivals from China. A spokesperson for the CCP said that the testing requirements were “unacceptable” and vowed that the regime would “take countermeasures” against nations that issue travel restrictions on flights originating in China. The White House defended the decision to require testing from all China-originating travelers based on the international consensus that COVID-19 is currently ravaging China’s populace. That’s funny though… anyone remember when Trump shut down travel to China? Speaker Pelosi Visits SF's Chinatown To Show Support Amid Coronavirus Fears Play 1:16-1:40 The CCP has attempted to cover up the scale of COVID-19 infections in China and the number of deaths it’s causing among the Chinese population, which has no natural immunity following almost three years of constant lockdowns. Leaked images of papers from a CCP conference in December 2022 revealed that Party authorities believe that as many as 248 million Chinese became infected within the first 20 days of December. Publicly, the regime claims that only 10 people died from the disease throughout the month. That’s generally what happens when you don’t allow for herd immunity. https://bigleaguepolitics.com/report-at-least-769-recently-vaxxed-athletes-collapsed-last-year-during-competition/ Report: At Least 769 Recently Vaxxed Athletes Collapsed Last Year During Competition One of the underlying stories of 2022 is the enormous number of professional athletes – primarily men with an average age of 23 – collapsing during competition. Though many of these instances have been documented in singular reports. Mainstream media outlets appear reluctant to link this unprecedented surge in collapses to the Covid-19 jab. Or to even bother asking follow up questions as to why or how this is happening. This is especially suspicious considering the majority of these collapsing instances involved recently vaccinated and or boosted athletes. One America News Network (OAN) did some digging and discovered more than 769 athletes have collapsed on the field during a game from March 2021 to March 2022. As outlined by The Defender, this spike “in cardiac arrest and other heart issues among elite athletes coincides with the rollout of COVID-19 jabs.” Pearson Sharp of OAN asks: How many 23-year-old athletes were collapsing and suffering heart attacks before this year? Do you know any 23-year-old people who had heart attacks before now? And these are just the ones we know about. How many have gone unreported? Nearly 800 athletes — young, fit people in the prime of life — falling down on the field. In fact, 500% more soccer players in the EU are dropping dead from heart attacks than just one year ago. Sharp discussed how this unprecedented surge is not a coincidence. Especially because “the Pfizer vaccine is known to cause heart inflammation.” He also alluded to the fact this number may be grossly underreported. The reason for these unreliable figures stems from the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) showing only between 1 and 10% of adverse reactions according to past investigations. Kyle Warner, for example, is an athlete who filed a VAERS report about his own health injuries following the COVID-19 jab. As Dr. Joseph Mercola put it; the filing took Warner 45 minutes – “a length of time that many doctors can’t or won’t devote when it comes to reporting adverse vaccine reactions seen among their patients.” Regardless, elite athletes collapsing in game increased so much in 2022 that even a mainstream media sports channel in Australia has speculated that the health issues could be linked to COVID-19 shots. https://twitter.com/i/status/1513542808531046409 - Play Video As this number steadily grows, mainstream outlets appear to be ignoring these collapses and their potential linkage to the Covd-19 vaccine. At the same time, the White House and other institutions continue pushing for more to take the experimental jab and get boosted. https://thepostmillennial.com/two-thirds-of-us-big-bank-economists-predict-a-recession-for-2023?utm_campaign=64487 Recession predicted in 2023 for US economy by economists at major banks Two-thirds of top economists at the United States' largest financial institutions are predicting a recession in 2023, according to a survey conducted by the Wall Street Journal. Primary concerns cited in the survey of 23 primary dealers, including those from Barclays PLC, Bank of America Corp, TD Securities, and UBS Group AG, were a dwindling of pandemic savings, a decline in the housing market, and a tightening of lending rules as potential warning signs of an incoming recession. The prediction follows a year of soaring inflation, accompanied by rapid interest rate hikes by the Federal Reserve that have risen from nearly zero in March, to 4.5 percent by the year's end. The Federal Reserve reportedly plans to continue its increase to 5 percent, then 5.5 percent in 2023. Economists predict that this will force unemployment rates above five percent, resulting in millions of Americans losing their jobs. The central bank doesn't forecast a decline in interest rates until 2024 at the earliest, as it attempts a balancing act of attempting to lower inflation levels without triggering a recession. Inflation began to increase at the beginning of 2022, rising at its fastest pace in 40 years. It currently sits at three times the government's preferred rate of two percent. Americans' savings during the pandemic from decreased spending and government stimulus measures have started to dwindle, as consumers increasingly dig in to weather rising prices of most products, from groceries to gas. Households have also increasingly had to take out lines of credit to afford their lives, as total household borrowing increased by $351 billion between the second and third quarter, to a total of $16.51 trillion, the fastest increase in 14 years. The high interest rates have hit the housing market particularly hard, as mortgage rates continue to soar and home sales plummeted. Banks have also significantly tightened their lending standards, more often than not an indicator of an incoming recession. Out of the 23 primary dealers surveyed, only five believed that there would not be a recession: Credit Suisse Group AG, Goldman Sachs Group Inc., HSBC Holdings PLC, JPMorgan Chase & Co, and Morgan Stanley. Jeremy Schwartz, Senior US Economist at Credit Suisse, one of the five banks that didn't predict a recession, wrote of the outlook for 2023, "Several historically reliable lead indicators are sending recession signals, but in our view these measures are unable to correctly gauge recession risk in the current environment." https://www.foxnews.com/world/zelenskyy-warns-russia-planning-prolonged-attack-iranian-shahed-drones Zelenskyy warns Russia planning ‘prolonged’ attack with Iranian Shahed drones Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that Kyiv has gained intelligence suggesting that Russia is planning a prolonged attack by using Iranian-supplied Shahed drones. In an overnight address Monday, Zelenskyy warned that in the two days since the world welcomed in 2023, Ukraine has stopped more than 80 drone strikes. "We have information that Russia is planning a prolonged attack with Shaheds," he said. Zelenskyy said that Russia is looking to exhaust "our people, our air defense, our energy sector" by constantly pummeling the country with air strikes – a strategy Moscow has been employing for months but which it has escalated as winter sets in. "Now is the time when everyone involved in the protection of the sky should be especially attentive," he said addressing Ukrainian pilots and those in charge of air defense. Moscow and Tehran, Iran, have repeatedly denied any drone partnership or the use of Iranian supplied drones in Ukraine despite evidence supplied by Kyiv and backed by Western defense officials. Zelenskyy urged his forces on the front lines, particularly those fighting in areas like Bakhmut – which has seen intense ground warfare for months – to continue to hold the line amid harsh winter conditions, which has likely slowed fighting in other areas like Kherson. Ukrainian forces have continued to push the lines eastward in areas like Donetsk, and fighting has begun to intensify in the Donbas region where Russian backed forces have fought since 2014. Commander-in-Chief of Ukraine’s Armed Forces championed this week that Ukrainian forces have liberated 40% of the territory Russia occupied following its invasion. He also said that in the regions where Russian forces remain Moscow has lost roughly 28% of the land. Now two years removed from the height of the COVD-19 pandemic, 2022 finally saw a return to normalcy and that included an abundant year in music. Live shows were back in full swing, records were recorded with band members actually in the same room together and acoustic bedroom performances on Instagram slowed down considerably. Our seventh annual Year End episode reflects all of this and indicates that our voracious appetite for all things music (including the music itself) has not waned a bit. Our respective Best Of '22 lists include some of the best shows we attended, our favorite albums released this year, old artists we've only recently discovered, great books we've read and in Glenn's case even an entire music scene. It all indicates that we still can't get enough music and can't wait to hear what we'll get into in the coming year. Happy New Year y'all. There's an old view of the mind that goes something like this: The world is flooding in, and we're sitting back, just trying to process it all. COVID has accelerated digitisation for women In 2020 more than 40% of the world's population wasn't using the internet, with many more women being unable to get online. Now a new global study into digital access in 90 countries shows that although women were disproportionately impacted by the COVD pandemic, it seems to have got more of them online in Southeast Asia and Africa. In these two parts of the world, the study shows progress in terms of bridging the gap between men and women and access to tech and the internet. While, historically, 90% of transactions in India were done by cash, the researchers say the pandemic forced more people to turn to digital payments for everyday items including food and other goods. In many parts of Southeast Asia, including India, many women are doing most of the shopping. The combination paved the way for progress and highlights a unique instance where the pandemic benefited women in these regions. Additionally, now equipped with their own digital wallets, women are afforded more agency over their finances. The progress in gender parity was seen in sub-Saharan Africa (8% improvement from 2019-2021), the Middle East and North Africa (6%), and South Asia (3%). We speak to Tufts University researchers who carried out the work; Dean of Global Business Bhaskar Chakravorti and Research Manager Christina Filipovic. Va-t-on grelotter cet hiver ? Comment les entreprises peuvent-elles baisser leur consommation ? Le gouvernement peut-il tenir son objectif d'élimination des passoires thermiques en 2028 ? As COVID-19 sweeps through the community, some people are avoiding it altogether, and some of us are unlucky enough to be getting it twice or more. So do we build up immunities over time, or does contracting the virus more than once raise the risk of making us more sick? The scientific jury, it seems, is still out. A controversial study released in June suggests reinfections could increase people's risk of bad outcomes. Extracting healthcare data, it concluded US veterans who had been reinfected were three times more likely to be hospitalised and twice as likely to be dead. But other experts have their doubts. Today on Please Explain, national science reporter Liam Mannix joins Bianca Hall to discuss the latest evidence about COVD-19 reinfections.Subscribe to The Age & SMH: https://subscribe.smh.com.au/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Financial Detox presents new micro learning series today with an explanation of the Fed and raising of interest rates. Jason Labrum and Alex Klingensmith with IDA discuss the relationship of the raising Fed rates to the markets and what investors should consider for hedging against inflation. Let's talk about the FED. Its very clear the our economy is in a "bear market" and these times will determine if you are successful investor or not. The fed just raised the rate another 75 basis points yet the markets reacted by going up that particular day. The reason the fed has raised rates is to control inflation or slow inflation. The US Economy has been in what is considered a "easy monetary" policy since early 2000; lower rates, easy to borrow, and the economy has been stimulated by these actions. Then throw in COVD where the government flushed the economy with trillions of dollars into the system. At the same time production of goods and supplies became limited therefore driving the costs of goods and services. Listen to todays shows to hear what to expect and what investors can do.
