The State of Virtual Care: How are major healthcare providers creating the creating the future of integrated healthcare? Craig joined Ascension Texas in September 2017 as President and Chief Executive Officer for Ascension Seton in Austin and Ascension Providence in Waco. He’s also Senior Vice President for Ascension Health. Ascension Seton and Ascension Providence make up one of the largest health systems in Central Texas with more than 2,000 affiliated physicians, 12,000 associates, 150 sites of care, including 12 acute care hospitals and a wholly-owned health plan with over 250,000 covered lives. This includes the top children’s hospital in Central Texas, Dell Children’s Medical Center, and Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas, Austin’s only Level 1 Trauma hospital. Craig oversees the strategic direction and operational leadership of this $2.3 billion health system. In addition to his responsibilities in Texas, Craig oversees Ascension Living, Ascension’s senior living and long-term care communities across the nation, and Ascension at Home, which delivers compassionate, personalized care to patients at home.

Dementia is not a disease in itself. Rather, it is a broad name referring to a long-term and gradual deterioration of a person’s mental ability. The condition can be severe enough to obstruct the sufferer’s daily life. Put simply, dementia occurs when the brain cells stop working as they should, affecting the person’s ability to think, remember, and communicate. Its usual symptoms include the difficulty of reasoning and thinking, gradual memory loss, and deteriorating communication skills. As Family and Professional Caregivers it is important that we properly understand dementia so we can provide the best care to our patients and loved ones. Dr. Michael Chua is a physical therapist that pracitces in Homes, Skilled Nursing Facilities and Acute Care Hospital environments. His clinical interest involves pain management, geriatrics and dementia management. He is also the Chief Inspirational Officer for TN Therapy Outsource and the author of MisUnderstanding Dementia.

After more than 20 years in engineering, Leanne Young joined the Center for BrainHealth to lead its Brain Performance Institute. Prior to joining the Brain Performance Institute, Leanne ran a division of Applied Research Associates, as a defense contractor, and helped establish human vulnerability as a core business area for that company. She worked with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to lead the first clinical trials of blast-induced brain injuries and, working with the Office of Naval Research, she led the development of a computer model for planning the medical response to a blast attack on a ship.
