The most enjoyable part of doing the podcast is talking to a wide range of people who, regardless of their industry or role, share a common goal: making things better. At the end of the day, that's what it's all about. Sometimes we make things better by selling something people need. Other times, it's by teaching them something new, creating an art installation that moves them, designing a workplace where they feel fulfilled, or building tools that make tasks easier. Whatever the approach, the mission remains the same—to make things better. This simple goal can often get lost behind the different names our work has taken over time. Take “UX,” for example. It started as “Human Factors,” then became “Human-Computer Interaction,” and eventually evolved into “User Experience” and “Human-Centered Design.” Whatever the term, it all comes back to the same principle: improving lives. The more we keep that in mind, the better we understand what this work is truly about. There's a lot of talk today about creating a “Digital First” strategy. But perhaps we should think in terms of a Human First strategy—focusing on what people want, what they need, and how we can help close the gap. One of the great things about being a podcast host, educator, and thought leader in this space is providing the tools that help others create the tools people need.My guest on this episode of Experience by Design understands what it means to elevate human potential and create “human-powered excellence.” Terry Peters discovered his passion for computers and coding through his high school football coach. Over his 20+ year career, he has helped organizations shape their digital strategies through user research, systems design, and user-focused experiences. His systems perspective emphasizes the importance of employee experience within technological and digital design—prioritizing their voices to create solutions that truly make things better. We discuss Terry's journey into management information systems and eventually user experience. We explore the challenges of requirements gathering, the role of AI as a supportive tool in human-centered design (rather than a replacement), and Terry's work with Veracity, now part of RGP, where empathy is central to projects that impact employees' work and lives. Finally, we reflect on the ethos of user experience: improving people's lives and making things better. By integrating diverse perspectives, we can build tools that help people achieve that goal.Terry Peters on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/terry-peters-m-s-8198b61b/RGP: https://rgp.com/
Digital Stratosphere: Digital Transformation, ERP, HCM, and CRM Implementation Best Practices
In this episode of Disruption/Interruption, host KJ sits down with Lukas Egger, VP of Product Strategy and Innovation at SAP Signavio. They discuss the realities of implementing AI in large enterprises, the pitfalls of treating AI as a plug-and-play solution, and the importance of re-engineering business systems to unlock true value. Lucas shares insights on innovation, the dangers of the "speed race," and how organizations can de-risk ambitious AI projects. Four Key Takeaways: The AI "Rat Race" Myth [2:00]Lukas explains why the biggest mistake in AI adoption is thinking it's a race to move the fastest, and why slowing down can actually lead to outsized value. The True Cost and Opportunity of AI [7:26]The conversation compares current AI investments to the Manhattan Project, highlighting the generational scale of today's infrastructure build-out and the unique opportunities it presents. Paradigm Shifts: Cheap Content, Expensive Trust [16:59]Lukas discusses how the abundance of cheap, AI-generated content shifts value creation from ownership to membership, and why trust and personalization are now critical. Re-engineering Business Systems for AI [24:29]Lukas argues that success with AI requires rethinking and redesigning entire business processes, not just swapping out old components for new technology. Quote of the Show (36:55):"The most important part is to claim agency about your strategy and what you want to achieve, and this will not come from giving into whatever the latest social media news might imply.” – Lukas Egger Join our Anti-PR newsletter where we’re keeping a watchful and clever eye on PR trends, PR fails, and interesting news in tech so you don't have to. Adam shares the key turning points that helped him transform his agency from early hustle to a scalable, systemized growth engine—including the reset brought by COVID, adopting the EOS operating model, and ultimately reinventing the agency structure around senior talent and client growth.Adam breaks down one of today's biggest misconceptions: that AI search is just “one more channel.” Instead, he explains how AI is fundamentally reshaping digital marketing, creating two new responsibilities for every brand—getting recommended by AI and shaping how AI interprets your brand. He highlights why online reputation, structured content, and brand clarity now matter more than ever as AI-driven platforms begin curating only four personalized results instead of pages of search listings.Looking ahead, Adam explores a future where consumers rely on AI agents to research, filter, and purchase on their behalf—transforming how businesses must communicate, compete, and differentiate online. The Cult: The Cannabis Business, Culture, and Marketing Show
What’s the real purpose of a website in 2024? In this episode of Hybrid Marketing’s Office Hours, Tyler Jacobson, Matt Gillespie, and Aaron Rosenbluth tackle a question most marketers avoid: when was the last time you actually visited your favorite brand’s website? Starting with frozen pizza brands and ending with strategic insights for cannabis businesses, this conversation challenges conventional wisdom about digital presence. The team discusses why they completely abandoned educational blog content after years of heavy investment, how Google’s AI overviews are reshaping SEO, and why consumer behavior has shifted from brand loyalty to convenience-first shopping. You’ll learn why B2B websites need to serve as sales enablement tools rather than traffic generators, how dispensary websites should prioritize user experience over content, and why some of the most successful brand websites focus on unexpected experiences like merchandise drops and interactive games rather than product information. The conversation also explores the harsh reality that many websites exist simply to validate legitimacy rather than drive transactions, and why aligning your expectations with actual user behavior is more important than chasing vanity metrics. Whether you’re marketing a cannabis brand, running a dispensary, or managing any B2B or B2C business, this episode will help you rethink what your website should actually accomplish and where to invest your marketing resources for maximum impact. Key Takeaways: Why educational content strategies have fundamentally shifted The critical question every business should ask: “Why would anyone come to our website?” How to align website strategy with actual customer behavior The difference between websites that support sales vs drive direct conversions
There's a lot of tired discourse about whether or not a Democratic Socialist like Zohran Mamdani could win in places that aren't as blue as New York City. But what's not getting enough attention is that Mamdani and his campaign somehow cracked the code for producing online content with offline results: getting people off the couch to connect with strangers face to face over a shared political goal. How'd they do it? Maya Handa, Zohran's campaign manager, and Andrew Epstein, his communications director, sit down with Jon to talk about the decisions and content that built Mamdani's campaign from scratch, what they learned along the way, and the lessons other candidates and campaigns can take from what they achieved. For a closed-captioned version of this episode, click here. In the UK oil and gas sector, the record on major accidents looks encouraging. Serious incidents are very rare, and the industry appears to be operating safely. Beneath the surface, the data tell a different story. One-third of safety inspections fall below the legal standard, and more than half of process-safety professionals are expected to retire within the next decade. At the same time, ageing assets, shrinking budgets, and weaker regulatory oversight are straining existing safety systems. Operators must sustain high safety performance when experience is walking out the door, equipment is ageing, and new technologies are flooding the scene faster than they can be tested. In this episode I speak with David Jamieson of Salus Technical, on making process safety straightforward. We explore why process safety remains an invisible threat, how AI can capture the wisdom of the best engineers, and what it takes to keep legacy assets safe as they wind down.
