For the Culture
Episode 4 of the last season of Game Of Thrones is called "The Last Starks Of Winterfell". It aired on Cinco De Mayo, and we immediately recorded after it ended to give you our instant reactions. The NBA Playoffs are very entertaining this year despite the beloved Lakers not being in it. We're rooting for Damian Lillard and the Portland Trailblazers. It would be nice to see the Warriors lose by a hungrier team. But Portland needs to beat the Nuggets first. Avengers: Endgame reached $2Billion in 9 days, whereas James Cameron's Avatar reached $2Billion in 9 years. Who's the king now? We give our late reactions after we each saw it twice. Schoolboy Q's "Crash Talk" album came out and we've been bumping it out our speakers ever since. Who's the best rapper in L.A.? We discuss. Lastly, we talk about Star Wars: Rise Of The Skywalker, and a very off-putting theory about the reincarnation of Anakin Skywalker's spirit. All that and more in the Jungle.
It’s the One Year Anniversary of this little podcast and we’re celebrating it with the last season premiere of one of the most powerful shows ever created, GAME OF THRONES. We give you our reactions, we highlight what we liked and didn’t like, Marcell doubles down on his crazy theory with Tyrion, and we really try to figure out Euron Greyjoy’s intentions. All that and more GAME OF THRONES talk for the anniversary. We are still mourning the loss of Nipsey Hussle. His funeral was last Thursday and Marcell gives his take on the man that impacted his life, and how Nipsey’s death impacted the lives of the people that live in South LA. Europe’s most coveted monument almost got burnt to the ground the other day. We don’t know much about the Notre Dame de Paris, but it was all over the news and we figured we take a shot by learning as much as we could about this building and sharing our thoughts about it. (shrug) All that and the fact we love being black. Enjoy our milestone episode of The Coolest Podcast In The Jungle!
It's been a week since the passing of one of Los Angeles' own inner city hero, Nipsey Hussle. To say the man was just a dope west coast rapper doesn't cut it. He's a legend in L.A. Marcos Vaca is in the jungle with us to share his thoughts on the most shocking death in hip-hop this side of the millennium. Emotions and speculations run rampant as we are still trying to process the murder of not only a good rapper, but such a good man. To lighten things up, we talk about Jordan Peele's latest movie, US, the highly anticipated follow up to his first movie, GET OUT. One of us only thinks of it as average, while the other one has to explain some stuff that flew over most people's heads. The symbolism and themes that Jordan Peele tried to convey in US gets discussed in this episode. Speaking of Jordan Peele, he has a new TV show called THE TWILIGHT ZONE. The obvious reimagining of the 60's sci-fi classic of the same name. Marcos is a Twilight Zone geek, so he has some interesting takes on the new show, as well as the old one. All this is more. Make sure to follow us on social media. Rest In Peace Nipsey Hussle! Instagram: @tonycortezofla @marcosvaca_
The 2019 Academy Awards were pretty entertaining, partly because there was no host. Plenty of surprises as far as who won and who didn't win. My sister and my niece are here to give their opinions of the show, and also play movie trivia games. This is the first time family members came to the jungle, so enjoy this special Oscars episode! The Grammys were last week and we finally talk about what happened, who won, and who should've won. The credibility of these awards are under question thanks to Drake's speech and Cardi B's win. We finally talk about J. Cole's "Middle Child" and how perfect the song is, and if J. Cole can hold his own in a rap beef with Pusha T. Speaking of rap, our Top 10 favorite rappers are discussed, and argued over. In the TV/Movie world, Marcell gives us the scoop on a show called GOOD GIRLS on Netflix. We give you more GAME OF THRONES Season 8 theories and if the HBO spinoffs would be worth watching. Also, Jordan Peele's new movie, US, has us very excited. All this and more...but don't forget to follow us on Instagram: @tonycortezofLA @cellxdocg
In this episode we talk about Super Bowl 53, and whether or not Tom Brady is the greatest football player of all-time. Also on Super Bowl Sunday, 21 Savage was detained by ICE. We react to one of our favorite rappers being targeted by the government (or so we theorize). The NBA Trade Deadline passed, and we talk about the state of the Lakers and where they're headed now that the season is halfway done. Speaking of basketball, have you seen Zion Williamson yet? Dewayne gives us the scoop on how good Zion really is and if he lives up to the hype. In the movie/TV department, Dewayne talks about how great THE PUNISHER is on Netflix, TRUE DETECTIVE gets its shine, and we explain how fascinating BLUE PLANET 2 is. Reminiscing on season 2 of ATLANTA and talk up Donald Glover's greatness, but all the love goes into another Leonardo Dicaprio movie called THE BEACH, which is on HBO. Which is a better company, HBO or Netflix? All that and more, just follow us on Twitter: @tonycortezofla @ronmexicoisw
First episode of 2019, Happy New Year! We start off talking about the influence rap music has on Marcos, a musician who mostly makes folk and jazz music. It's very interesting to see the perspective of rap coming from artists that are in such different genres. We play the "3 strikes" game with the Top 10 highest paid hip-hop artists of 2018. We both love movies, so we talk about master filmmakers such as Kubrick, Scorsese, and Nolan. The greatness of Heath Ledger had to be talked about, as well as our Top 5 favorite movies of all-time. The WWE Attitude Era has never been talked about on this podcast. We both agree that from 1998-2001, wrestling was the coolest thing going on at the time. We discuss wrestlers like The Rock and finishing moves like The Pedigree, but also we play the "3 strikes" game again because it's just so fun. We feel nobody talks enough about the death of Prince and other great artists, such as Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston, who just died "suddenly". Were they murdered? Who's the better artist, Michael Jackson or Prince? Being a musician who's been in multiple rock bands, Marcos breaks it down as to why rock music is dead. All this and more, but make sure to follow us on Twitter/Instagram: @TonyCortezOfLA @marcosvaca_
Marcell is back, and it's like we never skipped a beat. We start off talking about Game Of Thrones, and the hype surrounding the April 29th premiere. Marcell has this theory about what will happen in the final season of the series. We play the infamous 'three strikes game' involving the most memorable Game Of Thrones characters, and why Petyr Baelish is Marcell's favorite character. Rap music continues its dominance in 2018, and we get gifted again with a Jay-z verse that can be held as the best verse of 2018. We discuss that, and also, the 2019 Grammy nominations that were released a week a ago. Tekashi 6ix9ine, Lakers, NFL, Stan Lee, we talk about all that and more. Wassup! This episode was recorded October 12th on a day where it rained heavily in L.A. out of nowhere. The co-host this time is the homie Dewayne, a fellow Los Angelino. In this episode, we start off with Kanye's insanity at the White House. We then diverge from that subject quickly (because we're mad at him) to discuss Pro Football. Dewayne tells us all about his Fantasy Football League and, with our fantasy expertise, we evaluate his team, his fantasy transactions, and his league as a whole. We also talk about the Netflix shows we're currently watching, and movies that we think you should watch and/or look out for in the future. This subject also happened turn into a Michael Keaton dedication piece. We end it on a mid-90s movie that you DEFINITELY should watch. Hope you enjoy. “It’s been a long time, we shouldn’t have left you...” We’re back after a long hiatus, and this time, Myra Bivens joins me as the first female co-host of the Coolest Podcast. She and I recorded over a bottle of Evan Williams. Both of us took that down together with ease. The bourbon flowed and so did our opinions on rap music, sports, comedy, and the like. We argue over the Eminem and MGK feud and discuss who won the rap battle. We compare each other’s Top 5 favorite rappers of all time, and talk about the current state of Kanye West how we feel about him right now. We both love the NBA, so we give our predictions on who the best teams will be, come May/June. Myra indulges in some Laker hate as usual, and we trash the NCAA and NFL for being a couple of shady corporations. Kevin Hart defends Tiffany Haddish from shots fired by Katt Williams, but then we somehow ended up talking about Kevin Hart’s best friend who extorted him. This episode went all kinds of ways thanks to us drinking a whole bottle of Evan Williams together, but we promise, it’s entertaining. LeBron James is taking his talents to Hollywood to play for the historic Los Angeles Lakers and the city is going crazy! Mom and Dad call in to give their reactions to the Lakers acquiring the best basketball player in the world. This episode is nothing but Lakers talk. We discuss a little bit of the Dodgers, and do some Dwight Howard bashing, but this is mostly a Lakers episode. WE BLEED PURPLE AND GOLD! INSTAGRAM/TWITTER: @TonyCortezOfLA @coolest_jungle
Full review of Drake's latest album Scorpion, by Tony (Drake supporter) and Morgan (Drake detractor). It's been a whole month since the last episode, so like Lil Wayne always says, "Sorry For The Wait." June gave us plenty of new hip-hop music to enjoy for the summer. Drake and Kanye West are in the forefront, so we give you our reactions to what they gave us. The 2018 World Cup is in its knockout rounds. Even though U.S.A. isn't in it, we live in L.A., and it's definitely a party. We play the baseball game with the highest scoring teams of the World Cup so far. Morgan reviews the last three movies he's seen (JURASSIC WORLD 2, THE INCREDIBLES 2, OCEAN'S 8), and we end the pod with us watching a random-good boxing match between two Mexicans. Enjoy! Aubrey has some explaining to do. Pusha T has exposed a seemingly invincible international superstar. We talk about the beef between Pusha T and Drake, and what else can go from here. We start, however, with sports (of course) as the NBA Playoffs is nearing its end with the Warriors and Lebron's Cavs meeting in The NBA Finals for the 4th time in a row. Dewayne talks about his fantasy football expertise and what to look for in the upcoming NFL season. We also play the "over/under" game with this year's NBA Playoff teams. But most importantly, we talk about Drake's social media response to the "blackface" image that Pusha T unearthed years ago just to expose him. Is this rap war actually good for the two rappers? All this and more on the last day of May. Enjoy! INSTAGRAM: @tonycortezofla @cickrox @itsdewayne7 TWITTER: @tonycortezofla @lessismorgan @_coolestjungle
Rap music isn't what it once was, and the huge generational gap is the cause. Will Smith seems to be bridging it with his latest rap video on Instagram, letting the world know that if HE made it rain, he'd kill a stripper. Morgan is in the building and he's fresh off of calling 911 on a drunk driver. He's another one who thinks Lebron James is going to The Finals. He also tries to conquer the three strikes game with the Rockets/Warriors series heating up. We had to discuss The NFL's decision to fine players who peacefully protest. Tomi Lahren got water thrown at her and it was hilarious. Offset from the Migos crashes his car and Cardi B tells us why. All that and more! But follow us on social media tho. No. We haven't seen DEADPOOL 2 yet, but "Cell's Cellar" is back as Marcell gives his Top 3 wines of the week: TORCICODA, CALAFURIA, and PIETRABIANCA (we had trouble pronouncing them so there's the spelling). GAME OF THRONES is playing in the background as we talk about the NBA Playoffs. We make a friendly wager with "mythical dollars" on who's gonna win Game 3 of the Celtics/Cavs game. The Royal Wedding has been a topic of interest. We give our colorful opinions on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's big day. Let's just say we have very different views. First episode of the month (finally) and we start off with the recent success of Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino. With his incredible music video, "This Is America", his hit TV show ATLANTA, his appearance on SNL, and a summer blockbuster movie coming out, is there anything this man can't do? Also, we haven't talked about Kanye since he was going buckwild on TMZ. We discuss his antics, his sanity, and if he's "accidentally" moving the needle forward. The NBA Playoffs are heating up with LeBron James bullying Drake's Raptors yet again. Is he the greatest player of all time? We also play the 3 Strikes game with the NBA (it's Morgan first time). More sports with our 2018 NFL Season outlook and Morgan's favorite team, The NY Giants. Morgan gets random news headlines thrown at him to see what his natural reactions would be. Instagram Baddies of the Week is back to shed light on the beautiful women that weren't invited to the Met Gala. Oh, and we talk a little Met Gala (YAAAASSSS!). Anything and everything on this May 8th episode featuring my good friend Morgan. Check him out on Twitter: @LessisMORgan
AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR came out this weekend and Ant's the only one who saw it because he's the true nerd and Marcell is too cool for school. Will it make more money than BLACK PANTHER? Also, Kanye West is apparently going crazy and we discuss if he really is insane or if he's got all of us in the palm of his hand. Marcell's the only one who heard his new song "Ye vs. Everybody" and he gives his raw review. Bill Cosby is convicted of rape! Is his fall from grace the worst in entertainment history? And Ant debuts his Instagram Baddies Of The Week segment as Marcell tries his best to trash it lol. All that and more! Follow us on Instagram and Twitter: @tonycortezofla @kingxfishmonger
