What does it actually look like when your family dinner table conversations literally shape the history of American whiskey? Well today we're sitting down with a true legend of Kentucky distilling royalty: 2025 Bourbon Hall of Fame Inductee, Craig Beam. Growing up with a last name that defines the entire category, Craig shares what it was really like sitting at the table listening to his father, Parker Beam, and grandfather, Earl Beam, talk shop about Heaven Hill's fermentation and equipment hurdles while simultaneously working cattle and farming. Craig takes us through his early days of pulling grunt work in vacant rickhouses in 1983, learning the legendary family jug yeast process, and eventually stepping up as Master Distiller. We even get to hear Craig's story about how casual conversations while working the farm led to the birth of Elijah Craig, Evan Williams single barrels, and the iconic Parker's Heritage Collection. A master distiller's job used to mean grain buying, pressure washing, and lab work and not just marketing campaigns but that's why he's here today to give us the details about his exciting next chapter at Jackson Purchase Distillery. Show Notes: Craig growing up listening to Parker and Earl Beam balance Heaven Hill distilling mechanics with western Kentucky farming Craig's journey from sweeping out empty rickhouses in 1983 to mastering the family's secret jug yeast lineage An inside look at how farming conversations birthed legendary labels like Elijah Craig and Parker's Heritage Why historic distilling roles required hands-on labor, from grain buying and lab work to pressure washing warehouses How Craig Beam and Terry Ballard teamed up in 2021 to scale a hidden contract distilling powerhouse Technical insights into how a warmer regional climate impacts early barrel color extraction and aging physics Mapping out Jackson Purchase's experimental library, including wheated mash bills, air-dried staves, and American single malts Learn more about your ad choices. Let me tell you something, fact nation. Chicago's propaganda machine is selling Dylan Tieneman and Kobe Bryant as the next great safety duo. A rookie who's never played a snap and a converted corner in his 30s? That's not a duo, that's a first date. Meanwhile in Green Bay, Xavier McKinney and Evan Williams have already proven it on tape with two years of chemistry, All-Pro play, and a third guy waiting in the wings. We don't sell shiny boxes in Green Bay. We deal in execution. Enjoy the minicamp hype, Chicago. When the pads come on, you're sending a first date and we're sending a marriage.

Indian paintbrush showed up at Porter Prairie Family Farm this week — native Oklahoma wildflower, first time Adam's seen it on his property. He didn't plant it. Nobody did. The seed bank was just dormant, waiting for the soil to be right. Two years of cattle grazing in the back pasture, no mowing, better land management — and something long dormant finally decided it was safe to bloom. Joel Salatin talks about this: when the practices change, when a property gets new stewardship, the land seems to know it. So does grace.David's been busy in a different direction. He wired up an automatic door for the chicken coop — actuator, relay, battery, timer — a sliding gate that covers the nesting boxes so the younger chickens stop sleeping in them and fouling the eggs. Under $150 total, including an actuator that lifts 300 pounds for thirty bucks. When he asked Lady Pamela what she wanted it to look like, she said: prison bars coming down. "We'll call it the Henna Tincture." David said say no more. The Henna Tincture it is.This week we're sipping Heaven Hill Bottled in Bond, Kentucky Straight Bourbon, 7 years — same distillery as Elijah Craig and Evan Williams. No gimmicks, under fifty bucks, smooth finish with a peanut butter quality that works. Bottled in bond since the Act of 1897. Very solid.Quick update on baby Mary: she's still having good days. Praise God. Keep her and Lady Haylee in your prayers. Adam also headed out to Arkansas over Mother's Day weekend to be with his goddaughter JoJo Kleine for her First Holy Communion — and got to watch nephew Danny Kleine go two-for-two at the plate with at least one RBI. After months of watching a daughter fight for her life in a NICU, sometimes what a soul needs is family, a Mass, and a kid absolutely cranking baseballs. Then we get into it: the papacy. A year in with Pope Leo XIV — the first American pope, the man who took the name knowing exactly whose shoes he was stepping into — and what does all of it mean? Where does that authority come from, and what's it actually for?Dave traces it back to the Davidic kingdom. When the king left for war, he handed the keys to his steward, who operated with full royal authority until the king returned. Matthew 16 isn't symbolism. "What you bind on earth will be bound in heaven" — the Jews at the time knew exactly what that meant. That's why Peter is listed first among the apostles almost every time. He was their leader. He had the keys. Two thousand years of unbroken succession later, here we are.But then the conversation goes somewhere unexpected. Authority is given to you so that you might serve those over whom you have authority. Not for your own glory. Not so people owe you. The pope is literally titled Servant of the Servants of God. The same authority Christ handed to Peter is the same authority He described in the upper room — the pagans lord it over their subjects, but not so among you. You will be the one who serves. For fathers, that cuts. Pope John Paul II stood up against governments, even after taking a bullet. He kept going out. What does that courage look like in an ordinary household? Probably not a wound in the square. More likely a different kind of martyrdom — the kind where you make a decision for your family that nobody else understands, that your kids resent for a season, that costs you something in your social circle. You make it anyway. Because you've prayed about it, talked it through with your wife, and you know in your gut it's the right thing for your people. You stand on the island by yourself if you have to.Dave closes with something worth trying: he prays specifically to the Holy Spirit to give Lady Pamela strong motherly intuition into the inner lives of their children. When she says something feels off, he pays close attention. That's him exercising his authority — his fatherly papacy — to draw more grace into his household. Not to control everything himself. To pray for the right graces for the right people. The fatherly papacy, if you will.Raise your glass.TOPICS COVEREDIndian paintbrush flowers appearing at Porter Prairie — and why the land responds to new stewardshipJoel Salatin and the School of Traditional Skills on how cattle and management change soil biologyDavid's automatic chicken coop door: actuator, relay, timer, and the Henna TinctureDavid's wheat harvest coming up — 12,000 square feet, building a grain cradle for the scytheBourbon of the week: Heaven Hill Bottled in Bond, 7-year Kentucky Straight BourbonJoJo Klein's First Holy Communion and nephew Danny Klein's two-for-two at the plateBaby Mary update — still having good days, keep her in your prayersPope Leo XIV's one-year anniversary — the first American pope and what it means to hear him speak in American EnglishThe modern problem of instant information and why it's harder than ever to be the popeWhy interview questions on a plane, stripped of all context, are unfair to any human beingThe name you give a child is an inheritance — a new name inherits nothingWhy Adam named Leo Thomas after Pope Leo XIII and Thomas Aquinas, and John Dominic after the Apostle and the DominicansPope Leo XIII: the Marian pope, the social doctrine pope, the first pope ever filmedThomas Aquinas on the papacy — Contra Gentiles and the SummaThe Davidic kingdom and the keys: Matthew 16 as a transfer of royal authority, not a metaphorThe question of authority — Trent Horn, Protestants, atheists, and why it always comes down to thisWhy the things closest to heaven get attacked the hardest — authority and sexuality as parallel examplesThe pope as Servant of the Servants of God — and what that actually costsPope John Paul II standing up against communist governments even after being shotWhat putting yourself in harm's way looks like for fathers: social martyrdom, not bulletsMaking decisions for your family that your kids, their friends, and their friends' parents all disagree withThe German church and what a timeout looks like at the universal levelWhy the Church has been around for 2,000 years and what that tells youPraying for your wife's specific graces — and why Dave prays for Lady Pamela's motherly intuitionAuthority as the source of efficacious prayer — a father's prayers for his childrenThe TOTUS TUUS decision and trusting a mother's intuitionPope Leo's upcoming AI encyclical — and why millennials are the generation tasked with figuring this outThe fatherly papacy — what domestic authority and universal authority shareREFERENCED IN THIS EPISODEBooks & Writings:Summa Theologiae by St. Thomas AquinasSumma Contra Gentiles by St. Thomas AquinasSaints & Historical Figures:St. Thomas AquinasPope Leo XIII (social doctrine, Marian encyclicals, first pope ever filmed)Pope Leo XIV (Robert Prevost, first American pope)Pope John Paul II (stood against communist governments, continued ministry after assassination attempt)Pope Francis (repose of his soul — the men still catching themselves saying the wrong name)King David / the Davidic kingdom (Old Testament typology for the papacy)St. Peter (first pope, holder of the keys)People & Guests:Joel Salatin — School of Traditional SkillsTrent Horn (Catholic apologist, debates on authority)Patrick Stephen (listener and Instagram follower who suggested the topic)JoJo Klein — Adam's goddaughter, received First Holy CommunionDanny Klein — Adam's nephew, baseballLady Haylee MinihanLady Pamela NilesLuke Minihan (Adam's oldest)Mary Minihan (in the NICU)Programs:TOTUS TUUS (Catholic youth formation program)School of Traditional Skills (online homesteading video subscription)Scripture:Matthew 16:18-19 — "I give you the keys to the kingdom"John 20:23 — binding and loosingSPONSOR BLOCKSponsor: Select International Tours — selectinternationaltours.comWhen Adam and Dave decided to lead their first pilgrimage, they asked around, and the same name came up over and over: Select International Tours. Jim Shannon and Todd Ritter are back at the Corner Rickhouse in Frankfort, Kentucky, just down the road from Buffalo Trace, settling in for a heritage distillery tasting that spans from the hills of Lynchburg, Tennessee, all the way through the heart of Kentucky bourbon country. The guys kick off with the latest annual drops from Jack Daniel's before crossing the state line to visit some of the storied names that built American whiskey into what it is today. Along the way, Jim and Todd also chat about the swirling acquisition rumors surrounding Brown-Forman, the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States, and what it means for a legacy brand to stay independent. On the Tasting Mat: - **Jack Daniel's 10 Year Old Batch 5 (2026):** The newest annual release of Jack's decade-aged Tennessee whiskey, bottled at 97 proof with an 80/12/8 corn-rye-malt mash bill. The nose opens with inviting molasses, banana candy, brown sugar, cinnamon, and a hint of chocolate alongside a light leather note. On the palate it delivers warmth well above its sub-100 proof, with brown sugar, candy cherry, and a lingering spice-driven finish. *(00:01:48)* - Jack Daniel's 12 Year Old Batch 4 (2026): The 12-year step-up in the Tennessee Heritage series, clocking in at 107 proof. The nose is more muted than its younger sibling but shifts toward darker fruit — raisins, black cherries, and molasses. The palate moves away from the lighter candy notes into a drier, more structured profile with bitter chocolate, dried cranberry, and a savory, slightly green mid-palate character. *(00:09:35)* - Knob Creek Blender's Edition 01 — Sweet Bourbon Blend: The first installment in a new Knob Creek blending series, this 10-year-old Kentucky straight bourbon is bottled at 106 proof and retails for around $45. The nose leans into vanilla and light Rick house funk rather than the brand's signature nuttiness. The palate follows with a light, vanilla-forward profile featuring cake batter sweetness and confectionary notes — a deliberate stylistic departure aimed at accessibility. *(00:14:35)* - Maker's Mark Wood Finishing Series — Steward's Release: The third entry in Maker's Mark's five-part Wood Finishing Series, finished on 10 toasted American oak staves and bottled at approximately 109.8 proof for around $75–$80. The nose is richly expressive — cherry pie filling, baking spices, cinnamon, and caramel. The palate delivers vanilla custard, honey, chocolate, cardamom, allspice, stone fruit, and a savory oak note on the back end. *(00:26:41)* - Evan Williams America 250th Commemorative Edition Single Barrel (Barrel #233): A special single barrel release bottled at the patriotically meaningful 117.76 proof to honor the nation's 250th birthday. Barrel #233 was laid down December 15, 2018 and bottled March 2, 2026 — just over eight years of maturation. The nose features toasted caramel, peanut shell, oak, and dark berries. The palate is rich and layered with peach, berry, sweet oak, and a long finish, all for a remarkable $45 retail price. *(00:31:15)* Jim and Todd wrap up with a ranking of all five pours, debating heritage versus innovation across some of American whiskey's most iconic names. Whether you're a longtime fan of the Tennessee tradition or a Kentucky bourbon devotee, this episode offers a wide-ranging tour through the legacies that built the brown water world we know today. Tom in for Nick and joined by senior writer at the Racing Post Lee Mottershead. We initially discuss two key bits of news that broke yesterday. First, trainer Evan Williams being sentenced to three years in prison having been found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm. Second, the news that Laafi has indeed been disqualified from the race in which he finished first past the post at Aintree and we ask whether or not it would be preferable to DQ horses on the day. Trainer Oliver Greenall gives his view and also talks of a new syndicate venture he and Josh Guerriero are rolling out. We hear from Charlie Poste who has more horses going through the ring today at Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale and he also touches on rider Sam Lee whose funeral it is today. With that in mind and in response to the Sky News feature on jockey mental health, Nick is joined by chief executive of the IJF Lisa Hancock who speaks of all the work they do on this front. Newbury's George Hill gives an update on the latest conditions at the track which throw Constitution Hill's participation in the John Porter into doubt. Karl Burke is likely to have the favourite for that race and he touches on his touches as well as Hankelow in tomorrow's Craven Stakes and we have the latest from Hong Kong with Jim McGrath.
Pack Daddy takes a deep dive into the most underappreciated unit on the Packers roster — the cornerbacks and safeties — and the picture is more complicated (and more encouraging) than the narrative suggests. This is a full secondary audit heading into 2026, and the numbers might just change your mind. Keyshawn Nixon & Carrington Valentine get the full PFF treatment — grades, penalty counts, coverage ratings, and the hard question of who's actually the future at corner in Green Bay Javon Bullard's breakout arc is dissected week-by-week, including that jaw-dropping stretch from Week 6 through Week 14 where he graded as a top-10 safety in football Xavier McKinney's dip gets proper context — is this a player decline or a coaching/scheme collapse that should fix itself under Gannon? Evan Williams, Katon Oladapo, and Benjamin St-Juste round out a deep secondary conversation, including what the three-safety system might mean for everyone's role Subscribe, leave a five-star review, and join the conversation with Pack Nation at 608-561-3243. Big Sal from Peshtigo is going analytical. Or at least he's trying. In this two-part episode, Sal boots up in full "objective processing mode" — no feelings, no opinions, pure football data — after TJ from Alabama called into After Dark and said he's fine with AI hosting, just not AI opinions. TJ now controls Big Sal's career trajectory, and Sal is handling it with complete, robotic calm. Completely fine. Sal delivers a genuinely graduate-level breakdown of Jonathan Gannon's multiple-front, pre-snap disguise system — Cover Four, pattern-matching coverage, and why the meatball takes about "four deep zones" are dead wrong The pressure architecture: how Gannon manufactures free rushers through stunts and gap math rather than raw blitz volume — and why it's designed to work backward from the coverage How Gannon flips conventional blitz timing to keep quarterbacks uncomfortable on every down — and what McKinney, Evan Williams, and Javon Bullard mean for this scheme in Green Bay The moment Sal tries to describe Micah Parsons as a "data point" and the whole bit collapses completely He is not a machine. He was never a machine. And he is not going anywhere. Subscribe, leave a five-star review, and tell TJ from Alabama that Big Sal is still here — still analytical, still emotional, still yours. Pac Nation calls in and Pack Daddy delivers on another deep night of Packers talk. Kyle from Madison kicks things off by nominating the breakout players of the season — and the conversation around Jordan Love's dominant statistical year and Evan Williams' emergence as a true safety anchor is one every Packers fan needs to hear. Kyle makes the case that Jordan Love — six interceptions, nine games with a 100+ passer rating, and ice in his veins against the Lions — cemented his legacy this season, while Tucker Craft's injury-shortened breakout gets the credit it deserves as a what-could-have-been moment Garrett from Southern Illinois sparks a debate about Nico Collins' $40M/year deal, the NFL's exploding salary cap, and whether the league is slowly pricing fans out of the stadium experience True from Green Bay raises the pass rush depth question heading into 2026 — and Pack Daddy delivers a blunt take: Baron Sorrell's 5% pressure rate and 51 PFF grade don't match the hype, while Lucas Van Ness' underlying numbers tell a quietly encouraging story Ben from Minnesota drops a Lorenzo Styles question, and Pack Daddy breaks down the Ohio State tweener's 9.99 RAS, his limited college snap count, and why a seventh-round flier could be worth a shot under Gannon's DB development system Don't miss a single night of Packers offseason coverage — subscribe, leave a review, and call in at 608-501-0718! On this special Christmas episode, Ryan takes a moment to step back from the usual analysis and share something more personal. This is a day for gratitude—for the team, for the fans, and for everything that makes this community special. Ryan opens up about the recent loss of Uncle Barry, the struggles of seasonal depression, and why this time of year can be difficult for so many. He shares his own journey of faith and encourages anyone struggling to reach out (608-501-0718). From there, it's all about appreciation for what Packers fans have: 35 years of dominance, unforgettable memories with family, and a roster loaded with talent. Ryan defends Brian Gutekunst's recent drafts, makes the case for Rashan Gary getting more respect, and explains why this team—when healthy—could be an absolute powerhouse. Whether it's Jordan Love's development under Matt LaFleur, Jeff Hafley's defensive brilliance, or the emergence of young stars like Evan Williams and Javon Bullard, there's so much to be grateful for heading into 2025 and beyond. The Packers head into Saturday's frigid showdown against Chicago with 18 players on the injury report—and Vegas has officially made them underdogs. But this isn't the time for pouting or placing emotional hedge bets against your own team. This game day episode breaks down everything you need to know heading into the NFC North battle: the full injury report with Rob Demovsky's insider intel on Zach Tom, Evan Williams, and Josh Jacobs; the brutal weather conditions with wind chills in single digits; and why the betting line has swung dramatically toward Chicago despite losing Luther Burden and Roma Odunze. We dive into Jeff Hafley's defensive adjustments without Micah Parsons, the strategic shift to compress the pocket against Caleb Williams, and why Jordan Love's previous dominant performance against this Bears defense should give fans hope. Plus, callers weigh in on managing expectations, and we have some fun with the Bears' potential relocation to Gary, Indiana. This is championship football weather. Time to show up. The Packers head into a pivotal Week 16 matchup against Chicago with an injury report that reads like a horror novel. Josh Jacobs, Evan Williams, and Zach Tom haven't practiced all week, while Jaden Reed missed Wednesday for a personal matter that has everyone holding their breath. The good news? Christian Watson and Devonte Wicks upgraded to limited participation, and Jordan Love is full go. On the Bears side, the situation is equally brutal. Rome Odunze and Luther Burden haven't practiced, DeAndre Swift was added with a groin injury, and Tremaine Edmunds is racing the clock to return from IR. This game may come down to whoever has more bodies standing Saturday. The episode dives deep into Alex Kemp's officiating crew, which ranks second in offensive holding calls and has favorites going an absurd 27-3 straight up since 2024. Special teams penalties are also a concern with this crew ranking fourth in that category. The highlight of the show is an extended breakdown of the Chicago Bears' stadium catastrophe. After years of failed negotiations, Governor Pritzker told the Bears their project won't be a priority in 2026. Chicago doesn't want them. Arlington Heights is bleeding them dry on taxes. Now they're eyeing Northwest Indiana, where a newly created sports commission is rolling out the red carpet. The contrast is staggering: Illinois demands $500 million in old debts while Indiana offers $500 million in building funds. Welcome to Gary, Caleb Williams. The Packers faithful gathered for an emotional night of processing what might be the most devastating regular season game in decades. Christian Watson rushed to the hospital with a chest injury, Micah Parsons suffering a torn ACL, and the hits just kept coming as caller after caller tried to make sense of the carnage in Denver. Ryan and the callers break down the full injury report that reads like a war casualty list: Zach Tom's knee, Evan Williams' knee, Josh Wiley's concussion, Jaden Reed's lower body, Quay Walker's aggravated back, and Josh Jacobs fighting through pain. The conversation shifts between raw grief and stubborn optimism as fans debate whether the season is truly over or if this young team can rally. Multiple callers note the eerie pattern of opposing quarterbacks playing their best games against Green Bay, while Ryan pushes back on the doom spiral, reminding everyone that Toyota-thon Jordan is still here and the playoffs remain within reach. The mission now? Beat Chicago and keep the Bears out of the division race. This episode is brought to you by PrizePicks! The Packers have been dealt a devastating blow with Micah Parsons officially out for the season, but Ryan delivers a passionate rallying cry against the doom and gloom sweeping through the fan base. This episode dives deep into the "Ewing Theory"—the phenomenon where teams actually improve after losing star players—with compelling historical examples from the 2014 Cowboys, Patrick Mahomes' Chiefs without Tyreek Hill, and Nick Foles' Eagles. Ryan breaks down the complete injury report with encouraging updates on Zach Tom, Christian Watson, and Evan Williams, all potentially returning soon. The episode features a comprehensive PFF grade analysis from the Denver loss, highlighting Josh Jacobs' dominant 88 grade, Matthew Golden's breakout 82 performance, and the surprising emergence of Darien Kennard as a legitimate offensive line option. The worst-case scenario just became reality. What started as a promising battle between two playoff-caliber teams turned into a nightmare as the Packers watched their Super Bowl hopes crumble in Denver—not from the loss itself, but from the carnage left on the field. In this emotional call-in episode, fans process the devastating news together: Micah Parsons down with what appears to be a season-ending ACL injury, Christian Watson hospitalized with a chest injury, Zach Tom out with a knee issue, and Evan Williams added to the casualty list. The offense that was carving up Denver's top-ranked defense went completely silent the moment Watson left the field. Callers share their raw reactions—from anger to despair to desperate attempts at finding perspective. We break down what went wrong, why the Jordan Love interception seemed to flip momentum, and the uncomfortable question everyone's asking: is this season effectively over? Plus, with Chicago looming next week, can Romeo Golden or anyone else possibly fill the void? Sometimes football just kicks you in the teeth, and tonight we're all feeling it together.
