This week we chose to talk about horror movies based off of or inspired by a true crime! Sav watched the movie An American Crime, leading her to tell us about Sylvia Likens. With their parents chasing the carnivals, Sylvia and her younger sister were left in the care of a complete stranger. For months the devil herself, Gertrude Baniszewski, along with some of her children and many of the neighbor children tortured, abused, bludgeoned, and eventually murdered 16 year old Sylvia. Mads watched the movie The Town That Dreaded Sundown based on the Phantom killer in Texarkana in the 1940s. Killing couples along lovers lanes, the Phantom Killer committed a string of murders and murder attempts that were eventually all tied together, although the mystery of who this serial killer was remains unsolved. This week we had a very special guest, our buddy Alec joined us to learn about some famous old timey murders! Fun fact about our stories this week, both H.H. Holmes and Jack the Ripper were committing their murders on 2 different continents at the same time, during the 1880s.Sav tells us about H.H. Holmes, formerly known as Herman Webster Mudgett. Holmes is commonly known for his murder castle built in Chicago Illinois. This castle was a batshit maze created so that know one would know their way about the building besides Holmes himself. Its unclear as to how many people Holmes lured into this castle, even more unsure how many of them made it out, but it is suspected that he murdered at least 50 people. Mads tells us about Jack the Ripper, known for his ripping and jacking! No one knows the name of the man (or woman!) who murdered prostitutes on the streets of White Chapel, England and theories surrounding this are wild. This weeks episode was something else and trying to find lengthy chainsaw murder stories proved to be much harder than we could've expected. We did however find some good stories for you and we also chime in with a good long tangent about some nasty beastiality mixed with dolphin suicide, what an episode! Maddi tells us first about Robert Elmer Kleason, an absolutely wild man who murdered 2 missionaries and dismembered them with a chainsaw in his taxidermy shop. Then she tells the story of the gruesome chainsaw murder/suicide committed by Christopher Peppelman. Sav then shares a particularly confusing story about the murders committed by Howard Willis. 2 teenagers, a step father, and potentially an ex wife of this man were brutally murdered and 2 of them were confirmed to have been dismembered with a chainsaw.
