Summer is here and it's time to get scared. In this special minisode, Chris and Ed officially announce SUMMER OF FEAR 2026 - but that's not all!  They prepare for a season of horrors by looking at the disgusting summer of 1858, when London's River Thames became an open sewer so foul it forced the city into a full-blown sewage revolution. Then they cool off with Ambrose Bierce's short horror story “One Summer Night,” a classic tale about being buried alive, dug up, and still having things get worse.SHOW NOTESBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/scared-all-the-time--7084296/support.Get the latest episodes of our bonus show NEW FEAR UNLOCKED -- and a whole lot more! --by supporting the show on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/ScaredAllTheTime

Essas obras formam a base moral, científica e filosófica do Espiritismo. Musicas: - 01. Mind Tricks - Experia (Epidemic) - 02. Dark Music - The Sealed Kingdom (Epidemic) - 03. Bobbie Wickham has a sort of gravitational pull when it comes to Bertie Wooster and sticky wickets. And she's at it again. P.G. Wodehouse, today on The Classic Tales Podcast.   Welcome to The Classic Tales Podcast, where an audiobook format gives you an immersive experience in classic literature. I'm your host BJ Harrison.  I'm glad you could join us.   I sent out a newsletter this week with links to our new products, a note on other stuff we've got coming down the pike, and a link to a hidden gem in the library. If you missed it, check your inboxes. I try to keep it short, sweet, and convenient.   For years, I listened to David Copperfield, by Charles Dickens every year. There was just something nourishing when I revisited that story. There still is. The characters, the themes, the masterful language, it was a literary feast – and I always picked up something new. I don't know how you are, but sometimes I'm not at a place where I can handle a book. It just doesn't work for some reason. Then, a year or two later maybe, the same book absolutely hits the spot.   With the audiobook library card, you can always find something that will meet you where you are. And you can start, stop, try again, as much as you want. In a Wodehouse mood? Dozens of hours. Need to scratch a historical itch? How about Plutarch's Lives of famous Greeks and Romans, or The Count of Monte Cristo? Coming up on 19 years of personally narrated audiobooks.     Also, you don't need to place orders. Buttons to download each title are found in the product description. It's super easy to bop around and see what you like. Now, you can share it with friends, family, or clients. Whatever works.   Go to audiobooklibrarycard.com and choose the plan that's right for you.   Now for our Word for the Week, by Ambrose Bierce. "In a Grove" influenced the great Akira Kurosawa to create the film Rashomon. The concept being that two witnesses can give widely different accounts of the same factual event.   It may also serve as  William James's thesis that "it is not so much the truth of events that matters, but how they are perceived, and the difference that they make to the perceiver". Experience The Damned Thing by Ambrose Bierce; a classic American horror story first published in 1893. This eerie tale unfolds through a coroner's inquest, diary entries, and witness testimony, all circling around a terrifying creature that cannot be seen. Bierce was one of the earliest writers to explore the idea of an invisible monster, long before it became a staple of modern horror. The Damned Thing originally appeared in Town Topics in 1893 and later in Bierce's collection In the Midst of Life. Its documentary style, dry wit, and slow‑building dread make it one of his most memorable supernatural works. Feel free to check it out.   Before we dive into today's story, I want to start a new little feature called the Word for the Week. Each week, we'll have a definition from the Devil's Lexicographer himself – Ambrose Bierce. Over the course of 30 years, Bierce nearly weekly wrote a cynical definition of a common word, sometimes consisting of poems, which he sold to various newspapers and periodicals. After 30 years, he collected all of these into one volume which came to be called The Devil's Dictionary. In keeping with the spirit of its creation, we'll hear one of his jocular definitions before we begin today's show.   So, the Word for the Week is Infancy, and here to read it is Ambrose Bierce himself:   INFANCY, n. The period of our lives when, according to Wordsworth, "Heaven lies about us." The world begins lying about us pretty soon afterward.   Thank you Mr. Bierce.   And now, Michael Strogoff, Part 8 of 9, by Jules Verne.   Follow this link and watch the new video walkthrough using PocketBook.   Follow this link to get The Audiobook Library Card for a special price of $9.99/month       Follow this link to subscribe to our YouTube Channel:       Follow this link to subscribe to the Arsène Lupin Podcast:     Follow this link to follow us on Instagram:     Follow this link to follow us on Facebook:

A condemned man stands on a railroad bridge, a noose around his neck, dreaming of escape. Ambrose Bierce's 1891 tale “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge” remains one of the darkest and most unforgettable short stories ever written.Join the DARKNESS SYNDICATE for the ad-free version: https://weirddarkness.com/syndicateTake the WEIRD DARKNESS LISTENER SURVEY and help mold the future of the podcast: https://weirddarkness.com/surveyIN THIS EPISODE: It's Thriller Thursday – and this week I'm bringing you three tales of fiction. I'll share a short story that has been described as "one of the most famous and frequently anthologized stories in American literature" – it's “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge” by the legendary Ambrose Bierce, from 1890. I have a classic creepypasta from 2016 that many people mistakenly believe is a true story because it is so well written. It's “The Strange Case of Edmonson Kentucky” by Joe Terrell. But first, it's a short story of fiction as told by one of the hardest-working writers I know, as she is always posting new stories on Facebook: Christina Skelton. It's a story from April 2020 titled simply, “The Ghost Bus”.CHAPTERS & TIME STAMPS (All Times Approximate)…00:00.00.000 = Show Open00:01:31.892 = “The Ghost Bus” by Christina Skelton00:11:29.476 = “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge” by Ambrose Bierce * 00:34:43.528 = “The Strange Case of Edmonson, Kentucky” by Joe Terrell *01:02:22.710 = Show CloseSOURCES AND RESOURCES FROM THE EPISODE…“An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge” by Ambrose Bierce: https://weirddarkness.tiny.us/uu4acekx“The Ghost Bus” by Christina Skelton: https://weirddarkness.tiny.us/phupb8p4“The Strange Case of Edmonson, Kentucky” by Joe Terrell: https://weirddarkness.tiny.us/sdtru243=====(Over time links may become invalid, disappear, or have different content.
