Daily Devotions: How to Make a Pastor Happy - October 1, 2025

Scripture for Today: Philippians 2:1–4 (ESV) – “So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” In today's Daily Devotions with Pastor David Sumrall, we see Paul's heartfelt answer to a question many ask: “How can we make our pastor happy?” His response is simple—love one another, walk in unity, and work together with one mind and purpose. Just as parents rejoice when their children stop quarreling and live in harmony, pastors find joy when God's people live with humility, care for one another, and put others' needs before their own. This reminder is for all of us today: true joy comes when believers set aside selfishness, serve each other, and live together in the love of Christ. #DailyDevotions #PastorSumrall #CathedralOfPraise #BibleStudy #Scripture #ChristianLiving -------- Discover fundamental truths and the power of Scripture with Pastor David E. Scripture for Today: Philippians 1:3–6 (ESV) – “I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” In today's Daily Devotions with Pastor David Sumrall, we see how a true pastor prays for his people. Paul's prayer for the Philippians was filled with thanksgiving, joy, and love—thanking God for their partnership in the gospel and trusting that the Lord would finish the work He started in their lives. His desire was that their love would overflow, their knowledge of God would grow, and that they would learn what truly matters so they could live holy lives. This same prayer still speaks to us today: God is faithful, He delights in our growth, and He will carry His good work in us until Christ returns. #DailyDevotions #PastorSumrall #CathedralOfPraise #BibleStudy #Scripture #ChristianLiving -------- Discover fundamental truths and the power of Scripture with Pastor David E. Scripture for Today: Isaiah 50:10 (ESV) – “Who among you fears the Lord and obeys the voice of his servant? Let him who walks in darkness and has no light trust in the name of the Lord and rely on his God.” In today's Daily Devotions with Pastor David Sumrall, we are reminded that the way we choose to live shapes the outcome of our lives. God calls us to trust Him as our light and provider instead of relying on our own strength or wisdom. When we walk in His Word and obey Him, His blessing turns small beginnings into something great—just as He did for Abraham. The choice is simple: live by our own fire and face destruction, or live in reverence and obedience to God, and experience His guidance, provision, and blessing. For every believer, the path of Christian living is found in trusting the Lord one step at a time. #DailyDevotions #PastorSumrall #CathedralOfPraise #BibleStudy #Scripture #ChristianLiving ------ Discover fundamental truths and the power of Scripture with Pastor David E. Isaiah 48:17 (ESV) – “Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: ‘I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you in the way you should go.'” In today's Daily Devotions with Pastor David Sumrall, we see five beautiful principles of God's leadership. He restrains His anger for the sake of His name, rescues His people for His own reputation, teaches what is truly good for us, and leads us on paths that bring life. Even when we feel like our labor is wasted, He reminds us to place everything in His hands—because in the Lord, our work is never in vain. These truths are not just about God's leadership over Israel, but also a guide for Christian living today. We are called to lead with patience, forgiveness, and selflessness, helping others in ways that benefit them and trusting God with the outcomes of our service. #DailyDevotions #PastorSumrall #CathedralOfPraise #BibleStudy #Scripture #ChristianLiving ---- Discover fundamental truths and the power of Scripture with Pastor David E. I have made, and I will bear; I will carry and will save.” In today's Daily Devotions with Pastor David Sumrall, we are reminded of God's lifelong faithfulness. He is the One who made us, who has carried us since before birth, and who promises to continue carrying and saving us even to our old age. For seniors, this is a word of encouragement: the same God who has brought you this far will never abandon you now. For the young, it is a promise to hold on to: no matter what the future brings, the Lord will still be carrying you when your hair turns gray. Isaiah 45:9 (ESV) – “Woe to him who strives with him who formed him, a pot among earthen pots! Does the clay say to him who forms it, ‘What are you making?' or ‘Your work has no handles'?” In today's Daily Devotions with Pastor David Sumrall, we look at a recurring phrase in the book of Isaiah: “what sorrow.” Again and again, God warns His people of the sorrow that comes from pride, rebellion, compromise, and misplaced trust. From hoarding possessions to calling evil good, from hiding sin to arguing with our Creator, these choices only lead to sadness and destruction. For us today, these Scriptures remind us that the way to a joyful and blessed life is not in following sin or the world's definitions, but in trusting and obeying the Lord. Instead of resisting the Potter, we yield to His hands and find peace in His design. Join us in this study and let God's Word guide your life—because a life surrendered to Him is a life free from needless sorrow. #DailyDevotions #PastorSumrall #CathedralOfPraise #BibleStudy #Scripture #ChristianLiving ---- Discover fundamental truths and the power of Scripture with Pastor David E. Paul also shows us how God uses the five-fold ministry—apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers—to equip the church. Their role is to bring us to maturity and prepare us for works of service, which is why the enemy works so hard to separate believers from their spiritual leaders and from the house of God. The fruit of maturity is clear: we no longer get tossed around by strange teachings, we are not easily influenced by lies that sound like truth, and we grow daily in Christlikeness by speaking the truth in love. Stay close to the spiritual leadership God has given you, let His Word shape your faith, and walk in the maturity that builds up the body of Christ. #DailyDevotions #PastorSumrall #CathedralOfPraise #Ephesians4 #Isaiah42 #BibleStudy #ChristianLiving ---- Discover fundamental truths and the power of Scripture with Pastor David E. Isaiah 40:1–2 (NLT) – “Comfort, comfort my people,” says your God. “Speak tenderly to Jerusalem. Tell her that her sad days are gone and her sins are pardoned. Yes, the Lord has punished her twice over for all her sins.” In today's Daily Devotions with Pastor David Sumrall from Cathedral of Praise, we are reminded that seasons of sin are not good days—they are sad days. But when repentance comes, the message of God is not judgment or condemnation, but comfort and tenderness. God instructs us to speak with compassion to the repentant: “Comfort them, speak tenderly to them.” The sad days are over, forgiveness has come, and restoration has begun. Just as Paul encouraged the Corinthian church to welcome back the repentant sinner, we too must learn to encourage, restore, and remind others that God rebuilds what sin has destroyed. When people are post-repentance, our role is not to crucify them—Christ has already been crucified. Instead, we remind them that in God's mercy, the sad days have passed, and the joy of salvation is restored. #DailyDevotions #PastorSumrall #CathedralOfPraise #Isaiah40 #Restoration #Forgiveness ---- Discover fundamental truths and the power of Scripture with Pastor David E. Isaiah 39:2 (NLT) – “Hezekiah was delighted with the Babylonian envoys and showed them everything in his treasure-houses—the silver, the gold, the spices, and the aromatic oils. He also took them to see his armory and showed them everything in his royal treasuries. There was nothing in his palace or kingdom that Hezekiah did not show them.” In today's Daily Devotions with Pastor David Sumrall, we learn the dangers of pride and “showing off.” What starts as an innocent desire to be noticed—like a child saying, “Look at me!”—can turn destructive when motivated by pride instead of love. King Hezekiah, flattered by Babylon's attention, revealed all his treasures. But his pride stirred up envy and greed, leading to devastating consequences for his nation. The lesson is clear: when powerful or influential people take notice, it's not always a good thing. Instead of flaunting what we have, Scripture reminds us to walk in humility. Pride always comes before a fall, but humility protects us from unnecessary trouble. #DailyDevotions #PastorSumrall #CathedralOfPraise #BibleStudy #ChristianLiving #Isaiah39 ---- Discover fundamental truths and the power of Scripture with Pastor David E. Ephesians 1:4–5 (ESV) – “Even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved.” In today's Daily Devotions with Pastor David Sumrall from Cathedral of Praise, we are reminded not only of how thankful we are for salvation, but also how God Himself feels about saving us. Paul tells us that God chose us, adopted us into His family, and it gave Him great pleasure to do so. Salvation was not reluctant—it was God's desire, His joy, and His plan from the beginning. As we rejoice in the gift of grace, let us meditate on the heart of the Life Giver. Forgiving us, redeeming us, and making us His children brings delight to our Heavenly Father. #DailyDevotions #PastorSumrall #CathedralOfPraise #BibleStudy #Scripture #ChristianLiving Subscribe to cathedralofpraiseTV: https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1 ---- Discover fundamental truths and the power of Scripture with Pastor David E. Isaiah 35:8–10 (ESV) – “And a highway shall be there, and it shall be called the Way of Holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it. It shall belong to those who walk on the way; even if they are fools, they shall not go astray. No lion shall be there, nor shall any ravenous beast come up on it; they shall not be found there, but the redeemed shall walk there. And the ransomed of the LORD shall return and come to Zion with singing; everlasting joy shall be upon their heads; they shall obtain gladness and joy, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.” In today's Daily Devotions with Pastor David Sumrall from Cathedral of Praise, we are reminded that the life of holiness is not narrow or restrictive—it is a broad highway filled with freedom, joy, and safety. The Highway of Holiness is open to those who walk in God's ways, and on it there are no predators, no dangers, and no threats. It is a place of spiritual security, where the redeemed live in God's joy and gladness. When we pray “lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil,” we are asking God to keep us on this Highway of Holiness. Far from being a tightrope to balance on, holiness is a safe and secure road where God's people can walk in peace, free from the traps of the enemy. #DailyDevotions #PastorSumrall #CathedralOfPraise #BibleStudy #Scripture #ChristianLiving Subscribe to cathedralofpraiseTV: https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1 ---- Discover fundamental truths and the power of Scripture with Pastor David E. While medicine, finances, and friendships have their place, our foundation must always be the Lord. Isaiah teaches us that even in times of chaos, God will bless His people, providing peace, safety, and provision. Our confidence doesn't come from circumstances, but from God's faithfulness. Wherever we plant seed, He makes it fruitful—because it is His blessing on our lives that turns every place into good ground. Let's learn to depend completely on Him and treasure the fear of the Lord as our foundation. #DailyDevotions #PastorSumrall #CathedralOfPraise #BibleStudy #Scripture #ChristianLiving Subscribe to cathedralofpraiseTV: https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1 ---- Discover fundamental truths and the power of Scripture with Pastor David E. Isaiah 29:15 (ESV) – “Ah, you who hide deep from the LORD your counsel, whose deeds are in the dark, and who say, ‘Who sees us? Who knows us?'” In today's Daily Devotions with Pastor David Sumrall from Cathedral of Praise, we see two clear attitudes of a rebellious heart. First, rebellion tries to hide in secrecy, convincing itself that God doesn't see or care. Second, rebellion refuses to listen to God's Word, choosing only what is comfortable and agreeable instead of truth. These passages challenge us to take a close look at our own hearts. Are we living openly before God, loyal to His Word? Or are we drifting toward secrecy, stubbornness, and selective hearing? True devotion means walking in honesty, humility, and obedience to God's instruction. #DailyDevotions #PastorSumrall #CathedralOfPraise #BibleStudy #Scripture #ChristianLiving Subscribe to cathedralofpraiseTV: https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1 ---- Discover fundamental truths and the power of Scripture with Pastor David E. Paul reminds us to “keep in step with the Spirit,” following His lead in each decision we make. Rather than worrying about tomorrow, we can obey what the Spirit shows us today. Paul shows us that just as Isaac was opposed by his brother, so today religion rises against true believers who are born again by the power of the Spirit. As persecution increases in our world, believers—especially the next generation—must stand firm in their faith. Christianity is not about a form of religion, but about truly being born of the Spirit. Take courage: when opposition comes, it only affirms that you are a child of promise. #DailyDevotions #PastorSumrall #CathedralOfPraise #BibleStudy #Scripture #ChristianLiving Subscribe to cathedralofpraiseTV: https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1 ---- Discover fundamental truths and the power of Scripture with Pastor David E. Isaiah 37:31 (ESV) – “And the surviving remnant of the house of Judah shall again take root downward and bear fruit upward.” In today's Daily Devotions with Pastor David Sumrall from Cathedral of Praise, we learn how true revival begins—not with the majority, but with a faithful remnant. Throughout Scripture, God has always preserved a people who love Him wholeheartedly, refuse to compromise, and seek His presence above all else. Revival starts when this remnant takes root below—fasting, praying, and going deep in their relationship with God. As we dig into His Word and walk closely with Him, fruit begins to show above for all to see. It's not about numbers or trends, but about a people who hunger for God's presence and truth. Be encouraged today: live like the remnant. Go deep with God, and let Him bring lasting fruit in your life. #DailyDevotions #PastorSumrall #CathedralOfPraise #BibleStudy #Scripture #ChristianLiving Subscribe to cathedralofpraiseTV: https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1 ---- Discover fundamental truths and the power of Scripture with Pastor David E. Galatians 3:3 (ESV) – “Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?” In today's Daily Devotions with Pastor David Sumrall from Cathedral of Praise, we are reminded that true spiritual growth does not come through human effort, religious rules, or self-help methods. Just as we began our Christian life by the work of the Holy Spirit, so it is the Spirit who continues to shape and perfect us into the image of Christ. As believers, it's easy to fall into the trap of trying to change ourselves by sheer willpower. But the Bible teaches us to rely on God's Spirit working within us. When areas of our life need to change, instead of striving in our own strength, we can come before God and ask Him to let His Spirit transform us. Christian living is not about trying harder—it's about letting the Spirit produce His fruit in our lives. Join us for this Bible study and be encouraged to walk in the Spirit, trust His work, and live each day more like Jesus. #DailyDevotions #PastorSumrall #CathedralOfPraise #BibleStudy #Scripture #ChristianLiving Subscribe to cathedralofpraiseTV: https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1 ---- Discover fundamental truths and the power of Scripture with Pastor David E. Scripture Reading: Galatians 2:11–13 (NLT) “But when Peter came to Antioch, I had to oppose him to his face, for what he did was very wrong. When he first arrived, he ate with the Gentile believers, who were not circumcised. But afterward, when some friends of James came, Peter wouldn't eat with the Gentiles anymore. He was afraid of criticism from these people who insisted on the necessity of circumcision. As a result, other Jewish believers followed Peter's hypocrisy, and even Barnabas was led astray by their hypocrisy.” Even great leaders can stumble. Peter, who had boldly stood for Christ, fell into hypocrisy because he was afraid of criticism. That fear led him to compromise his actions and mislead others. Paul had to confront him directly because leadership always influences those who follow—whether into truth or into error. In today's Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall reminds us that the fear of people's opinions can push us toward hypocrisy. But when we choose integrity and obedience to God over fear of criticism, we walk in truth and help others do the same. Scripture Reading: Galatians 1:10 (NLT) “Obviously, I'm not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ's servant.” In a world where leaders are pressured to keep everyone happy, Paul reminds us of the heart of true ministry: we are called to serve Christ, not to chase human approval. People's opinions often shift, but God's will is steady. Our focus should be on whether our actions, words, and service are pleasing to Him. In today's Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall encourages us—whether pastors, leaders, or believers—to live with one clear goal: to be faithful servants of Christ. When we prioritize pleasing God above people, we not only honor Him, but we also see lives truly transformed. Scripture Reading: Proverbs 14:9 (NLT) “Fools make fun of guilt, but the godly acknowledge it and seek reconciliation.” We all hurt others at times—most of our sins involve people around us. The world often laughs off guilt, teaching us to ignore it or see apology as weakness. But the Bible shows us a different path. A godly person admits when they've done wrong and seeks to make things right. In today's devotion, Pastor David Sumrall reminds us that real strength is found in humility, honesty, and reconciliation. Instead of excusing or rationalizing our mistakes, let's choose to acknowledge them before God and others, and pursue peace in our relationships. Scripture Reading: Proverbs 14:4 (NLT) “Without oxen a stable stays clean, but you need a strong ox for a large harvest.” Leadership is never without challenges. Whether in a family business, a company, or a ministry team, working with people means dealing with their strengths—and sometimes their shortcomings. Proverbs reminds us that while a stable may stay clean without oxen, there can be no harvest without them. In the same way, you cannot build something lasting by doing everything yourself. Yes, people bring their own struggles, attitudes, and mistakes into the workplace or team, but they are also the very ones God can use to accomplish greater things. Instead of avoiding the difficulties, we are called to train, develop, and lead with patience. A large harvest requires strong workers—and strong leaders willing to “scoop the mess” and keep going. Scripture Reading: Isaiah 5:20–22 (NLT) “What sorrow for those who say that evil is good and good is evil, that dark is light and light is dark, that bitter is sweet and sweet is bitter. What sorrow for those who are wise in their own eyes and think themselves so clever. What sorrow for those who are heroes at drinking wine and boast about all the alcohol they can hold.” In this passage, God warns of the sorrows that come when people change the meaning of right and wrong. Isaiah speaks of those who redefine morality—calling evil good, excusing sin as freedom, and celebrating what God calls destructive. This is the reality we still see in our world today, where definitions are constantly shifting to justify corruption, immorality, and disobedience. As believers, we are called to stand firm in the truth of God's Word. The Bible—not the world's changing standards—defines what is good, righteous, and holy. Instead of conforming to a culture that blurs the lines, we are to hold fast to Scripture and live by God's eternal truth. Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 12:5, 9–10 (NLT) “That experience is worth boasting about, but I'm not going to do it. I will boast only about my weaknesses… Each time he said, ‘My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.' So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. That's why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” The Apostle Paul reminds us that true strength in the Christian life does not come from our abilities, popularity, or achievements—it comes from God's grace. Paul faced hardships, insults, persecution, and constant opposition, yet he learned to rejoice in weakness because that's where God's power shines the brightest. Instead of relying on himself, Paul relied completely on God's grace. This is a lesson for us today. When life feels overwhelming, when insults or troubles come our way, we don't have to be ashamed or defeated. We can say, “Lord, I rely on Your grace. I boast in my weakness so that Your strength may be seen in me.” In every trial, His grace is sufficient, and His power will carry us through. Scripture Reading: Isaiah 1:21, 18 (ESV) “How the faithful city has become a whore, she who was full of justice! Righteousness lodged in her, but now murderers… Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.” One of the hardest lessons in the Christian life is realizing that people change—not only from bad to good, but sadly, sometimes from good to bad. Isaiah shows us how God's people, once faithful and pure, had turned away into sin. They kept bringing offerings, but their hearts no longer belonged to Him. God wasn't interested in empty rituals—He wanted obedience, holiness, and true devotion. The same is true for us today. Maybe you once walked closely with God but drifted back into old habits, wrong influences, or spiritual coldness. Yet the Lord still says, “Come, let us reason together.” His mercy is greater than our failures, and when we return to Him with obedience, He restores, forgives, and blesses. Brothers and sisters, if your heart has changed, don't stay far from Him. Sit down with God today, settle things with Him, and let Him make you clean again. Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 11:1-4 2 Corinthians 11:1-4 – “I hope you will put up with a little of my foolishness. I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy. I promised you to one husband, to Christ, so that I might present you as a pure virgin to him. But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the cunning ways of the serpent, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ.” In today's Daily Devotions, Pastor Sumrall reflects on Paul's godly jealousy for the church at Corinth. Paul's concern was not about control or ownership, but about protecting the believers' pure devotion to Christ. He observed that others were stepping into their spiritual lives, teaching false ideas, and subtly pulling them away from the faith he had nurtured. This teaching applies to us today by reminding us to stay rooted in the truth of Christ and recognize the shepherds God has placed in our lives. Leaders who guide us faithfully care for our spiritual growth, and it's natural for them to feel a godly concern when our devotion is at risk. We are encouraged to discern teaching, remain loyal to Christ, and honor those invested in our spiritual journey. ------ Don't forget to like, subscribe to Cathedral of Praise TV https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1,and hit the bell icon
