Daily Devotions: A Gift to Pray For - April 20, 2026

Proverbs 20:12 (ESV) - “The hearing ear and the seeing eye, the LORD has made them both.” In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall teaches about two often overlooked but powerful gifts from God, ears to hear and eyes to see. While many pray for provision, healing, and blessing, he emphasizes that spiritual awareness and sensitivity are among the greatest gifts a believer can receive. Pastor Sumrall explains that having eyes to see allows us to recognize needs, discern situations, and respond with compassion, while ears to hear help us understand what is often left unsaid. These gifts are especially important for parents, leaders, and anyone caring for others, as they enable deeper connection and wiser guidance. We must intentionally pray for spiritual perception, asking God daily for eyes to see and ears to hear so they can better serve, lead, and love the people around them. ---- Don't forget to like, subscribe to Cathedral of Praise TV https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1,and hit the bell icon

Proverbs 20:7 (ESV) - “The righteous who walks in his integrity—blessed are his children after him!” In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall highlights the lasting power of integrity in a world that often encourages compromise. He explains that while society may normalize dishonesty and corruption, God's promises remain unchanged for those who choose to live upright and truthful lives. Pastor Sumrall emphasizes that integrity is not just a personal blessing, it is a generational one. When a person walks in integrity, it creates a legacy that brings blessing to their children long after they are gone. Even without great wealth, a life of integrity becomes one of the greatest inheritances a parent can leave behind. Choosing integrity is choosing lasting impact, as God honors those who walk uprightly and extends that blessing to the generations that follow. ---- Don't forget to like, subscribe to Cathedral of Praise TV https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1,and hit the bell icon

Luke 21:34–36 (ESV) - “But watch yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly like a trap. For it will come upon all who dwell on the face of the whole earth. But stay awake at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.” In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall addresses the reality of heaviness and depression, teaching that some burdens come from the choices we make. Jesus warns that hearts can become weighed down by carousing, drunkenness, and the anxieties of daily life; things that slowly dull the heart and drain spiritual strength. Pastor Sumrall explains that while life brings real pressures, believers must guard their hearts and make intentional decisions about what they allow to influence their emotions and outlook. Instead of being consumed by negativity, distractions, or unhealthy habits, Christians are called to stay alert, pray, and choose a life of joy and focus on God. We have a responsibility to protect our hearts, resist what brings heaviness, and choose daily to rejoice in the Lord, no matter what circumstances we face. ---- Don't forget to like, subscribe to Cathedral of Praise TV https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1,and hit the bell icon

Luke 20:34–38 (ESV) - “And Jesus said to them, ‘The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage, but those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and to the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage, for they cannot die anymore, because they are equal to angels and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection. But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed, in the passage about the bush, where he calls the Lord the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob. Now he is not God of the dead, but of the living, for all live to him.'” In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall teaches about the reality of eternity and what God is like. He explains that life does not end at death, every person continues to exist, because God is the God of the living, not the dead. Jesus makes it clear that those who belong to Him are raised to new life, where death no longer has power. Pastor Sumrall addresses the false idea that life simply ends when we die, emphasizing instead that every person is immortal, having a beginning but no end. He reminds us that eternity is real, and our choices in this life determine where we will spend it. We, believers must ponder the beautiful hope of eternity, knowing that death is not the end but the beginning of everlasting life with God for those who trust in Him. ---- Don't forget to like, subscribe to Cathedral of Praise TV https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1,and hit the bell icon

Luke 20:2–8 (ESV) - “And they asked him, ‘Tell us by what authority you do these things, or who it is that gave you this authority.' He answered them, ‘I also will ask you a question. Now tell me, was the baptism of John from heaven or from man?' And they discussed it with one another, saying, ‘If we say, “From heaven,” he will say, “Why did you not believe him?” But if we say, “From man,” all the people will stone us to death, for they are convinced that John was a prophet.' So they answered that they did not know where it came from. And Jesus said to them, ‘Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.'” In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall reveals how Jesus responded to religious leaders who questioned His authority without a genuine desire for truth. He explains that truth does not need to be debated or strategized, truth simply stands on its own. The leaders' need to discuss their answer exposed that they were not seeking truth, but protecting their position. Pastor Sumrall also emphasizes that Jesus did not engage with people whose questions were rooted in wrong attitudes rather than a sincere hunger to learn. He teaches that believers, especially leaders, must learn not to waste time trying to answer those who are not open to truth. This Daily Devotion encourages us to value truth, examine our motives, and focus our time and energy on those who genuinely desire to grow and learn from God. ---- Don't forget to like, subscribe to Cathedral of Praise TV https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1,and hit the bell icon

Luke 19:30–31 (ESV) - “‘Go into the village in front of you, where on entering you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever yet sat. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks you, “Why are you untying it?” you shall say this: “The Lord has need of it.”'” In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall highlights a powerful truth about stewardship and surrender. While we often bring our needs to God, there are moments when God speaks to us about what He desires to use from our lives. He reminds us that everything we have ultimately belongs to God, and we are simply stewards of what He has entrusted to us. Pastor Sumrall explains the significance of the colt that had never been used, showing how what is set apart for God must be reserved for sacred purposes. He also emphasizes God's heart as a giver, not a taker—when God asks for something, it is never to diminish us, but to use it for His purposes and return blessing in our lives. This Daily Devotion encourages believers to willingly release what God asks for, trusting that He is faithful to provide, multiply, and return it in ways that bring both blessing and eternal purpose. ---- Don't forget to like, subscribe to Cathedral of Praise TV https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1,and hit the bell icon

Luke 19:16–17 (ESV) - “The first came before him, saying, ‘Lord, your mina has made ten minas more.' And he said to him, ‘Well done, good servant! Because you have been faithful in a very little, you shall have authority over ten cities.'” In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall teaches that our faithfulness in this life determines our responsibilities in the life to come. As Jesus shares the parable, He reveals that those who are faithful with what they have been given, even if it seems small, will be entrusted with greater authority in His future kingdom. Pastor Sumrall explains that believers will one day rule and reign with Christ, and what we do now with our time, talents, and resources directly impacts the assignments we will receive in the millennial reign. He challenges Christians to live productive lives for the kingdom, using their abilities, homes, and resources to reach others and build God's work. No act of faithfulness is too small, and that what we do for Christ today has eternal significance in the kingdom to come. ------- Don't forget to like, subscribe to Cathedral of Praise TV https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1,and hit the bell icon

Luke 18:9 (ESV) - “He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and treated others with contempt.” In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall explains how Jesus spoke directly to specific people to correct specific spiritual attitudes. He points out that Jesus was not afraid to address those who were confident in their own righteousness and looked down on others, showing that focused teaching is sometimes necessary to bring growth and correction in people's lives. Pastor Sumrall emphasizes that spiritual leadership, whether in the church or in the family, requires honest and focused conversations. Just as Jesus addressed particular attitudes, pastors and parents must sometimes speak directly to individuals or groups to help them grow and change. This kind of focused correction is not harshness, but a sign of care and responsible leadership. As believers, we must not to be offended by correction, but understand that specific and focused teaching is part of how Jesus trains us to live and minister with humility and love. ---- Don't forget to like, subscribe to Cathedral of Praise TV https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1,and hit the bell icon

Luke 17:14 (ESV) - “And when he saw them he said to them, ‘Go and show yourselves to the priests.' And as they went they were cleansed.” In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall teaches from the story of the ten lepers and highlights how healing often flows in response to obedience. As the lepers obeyed Jesus and went to show themselves to the priests, they were cleansed along the way, demonstrating that faith is shown through action and obedience to God's instructions. Pastor Sumrall also emphasizes the importance of validating miracles, explaining that Jesus Himself instructed the lepers to have their healing confirmed by the priests. In the same way, believers should not be afraid to have doctors confirm what God has done, because real miracles can be clearly seen and verified. Obedience releases God's power and validated miracles bring glory to God. ---- Don't forget to like, subscribe to Cathedral of Praise TV https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1,and hit the bell icon

Luke 16:23–26 (ESV) - “And in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side. And he called out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in anguish in this flame.' But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner bad things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish. And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us.'” In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall shows us the reality of eternity through the story of the rich man and Lazarus. He explains that while the body is buried, the soul lives on forever, and each person will spend eternity either in heaven or in hell. Pastor Sumrall emphasizes that hell is real, a place of torment, anguish, and separation, and reminds believers that Jesus died on the cross to save us from this eternal judgment and give us the hope of heaven. He also highlights the great chasm between heaven and hell, showing that eternity is permanent and decisions made in this life determine where a person will spend forever. The greatest tragedy is realizing too late what could have been. Life on earth is temporary, eternity is what truly matters, and today is the time to make things right with God by accepting Jesus as Savior. ---- Don't forget to like, subscribe to Cathedral of Praise TV https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1,and hit the bell icon

Luke 16:10–13 (ESV) - “One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much. If then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches? And if you have not been faithful in that which is another's, who will give you that which is your own? No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.” In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall teaches four principles of stewardship from the words of Jesus. He explains that faithfulness in small things reveals the true character of a person's heart, because what someone does in little responsibilities will also be seen in greater ones. Pastor Sumrall also emphasizes that generosity and faithfulness in giving open the door for true spiritual riches, while caring for what belongs to others prepares believers to receive God's own blessings in their lives. Pastor further highlights the importance of attitude, reminding believers that they must choose who they will truly love and be devoted to—God or money. Every decision that prioritizes money over God reveals the heart's devotion. ---- Don't forget to like, subscribe to Cathedral of Praise TV https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1,and hit the bell icon

Joshua 5:7 (ESV) - “So it was their children, whom he raised up in their place, that Joshua circumcised. For they were uncircumcised, because they had not been circumcised on the way.” In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall reflects on Israel's preparation to enter the Promised Land and highlights how an entire generation failed to raise their children according to God's covenant. He explains that the same generation that refused to trust God also neglected to teach their children obedience, showing that their hearts never truly changed even after 40 years in the wilderness. Pastor Sumrall emphasizes God's mercy and grace, reminding us that even when people were faithless, God remained faithful in providing for them. He challenges parents to examine their own lives and consider whether they are faithfully teaching their children to follow God or leaving out important truths because of personal preferences. Every believing parent must raise the next generation in the fear and admonition of the Lord, because what we truly believe about God is revealed in what we teach our children. ---- Don't forget to like, subscribe to Cathedral of Praise TV https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1,and hit the bell icon

Only may the Lord your God be with you, as he was with Moses. Whoever rebels against your commandment and disobeys your words, whatever you command him, shall be put to death. As Joshua steps into leadership, the people express their desire for a leader marked first by God's presence, a life rooted in a real relationship with Him. Pastor Sumrall explains that strength is also essential. Leaders must not be easily swayed or controlled by pressure, but stand firm in what is right. Alongside strength is courage, the willingness to face opposition and lead forward even in difficult moments. Leadership is not about personality or ability, but about a life with God, strength in character, and courage to lead faithfully in every situation. ---- Don't forget to like, subscribe to Cathedral of Praise TV https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1,and hit the bell icon

You shall walk after the Lord your God and fear him and keep his commandments and obey his voice, and you shall serve him and hold fast to him.” In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall answers a difficult question: why does God allow false prophets? He explains that even when signs and predictions seem real, the true test is not accuracy but direction. False voices often try to pull people away from God, leading toward compromise and rebellion. Assemble the people, men, women, and little ones, and the sojourner within your towns, that they may hear and learn to fear the Lord your God, and be careful to do all the words of this law.” In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall emphasizes the importance of the public reading of Scripture. God instructed His people to gather everyone, every generation, and read His Word aloud so they would learn to respect Him and follow His ways. Pastor Sumrall reminds us that when Scripture is removed from daily life, whether in church or at home, people lose their understanding of God and their reverence for Him. Respect for God grows when His Word is consistently heard, taught, and lived out. Instead of settling a family dispute, He pointed to a deeper issue, warning against greed and reminding us that life is not defined by possessions. Pastor Sumrall emphasizes that money and material things do not determine who we are. They may reveal what is already in the heart, but they do not define a person's identity. True value is found in the condition of our heart, not in what we own or accumulate. When Jesus spoke to the experts of the law, He did not avoid confrontation. He addressed what was wrong because He cared about people and their spiritual direction. Pastor Sumrall explains that correction should not be seen as an insult, but as a sign of genuine care. In a time when many avoid difficult conversations, we are reminded that real love is willing to speak truth clearly, without being harsh, but without compromise. Proverbs 16:23 (ESV) - “The heart of the wise makes his speech judicious and adds persuasiveness to his lips.” In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall teaches what true biblical persuasion looks like in a world full of marketing and influence. While many voices try to convince and attract attention, Scripture shows that real persuasion does not come from pressure or clever tactics. Pastor Sumrall explains that pleasant words are persuasive, but they must flow from a heart of wisdom. It is not enough to sound nice or entertaining. Words that truly influence others are grounded in truth, shaped by understanding, and spoken with grace. If we want to speak in a way that impacts people, we must cultivate both wisdom and kindness, allowing our words to reflect God's truth with clarity and care. ---- Discover fundamental truths and the power of Scripture with Pastor David E. They shall not appear before the Lord empty-handed. Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the Lord your God that he has given you.” In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall teaches a timeless principle about giving that runs throughout Scripture. He explains that offerings are not measured by amount, but by the heart and the proportion of what God has already given. Pastor Sumrall emphasizes that every offering is voluntary, never forced, and always rooted in gratitude. God is not asking for what we do not have, nor does He expect us to give out of pressure or debt. Instead, we must give what He has already placed in our hands. True generosity honors God, reflects trust in His provision, and flows from a heart that recognizes He is the source of every blessing. ---- Discover fundamental truths and the power of Scripture with Pastor David E. Deuteronomy 13:3–4 (ESV)- “You shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams. For the Lord your God is testing you, to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Pastor Sumrall reminds us that God allows these moments to reveal what is truly in our hearts. Do we genuinely love Him, obey His Word, and stay faithful to His voice, or are we drawn to what seems appealing or easier? Stay grounded in God's Word, look beyond outward signs, and remain committed to following Him alone. ---- Discover fundamental truths and the power of Scripture with Pastor David E. Deuteronomy 11:10–12 (ESV) - “For the land that you are entering to take possession of it is not like the land of Egypt, from which you have come, where you sowed your seed and irrigated it, like a garden of vegetables. But the land that you are going over to possess is a land of hills and valleys, which drinks water by the rain from heaven, a land that the Lord your God cares for. The eyes of the Lord your God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year to the end of the year.” In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall teaches the difference between the land of Goshen and the Promised Land. Goshen was a place of temporary provision, where people relied on their own effort to sustain what they had. But the Promised Land represents destiny, where God Himself watches over, provides, and works alongside His people. Pastor Sumrall reminds us that while God may bring us into seasons of abundance during difficult times, those seasons are not meant to be permanent. There comes a time to move forward into the life God has prepared, a place where His care, timing, and provision are evident in every season. Leave behind temporary comfort and step into God's purpose, trusting that in His plan, we not only experience provision but partnership with Him. Proverbs 16:4 (ESV)- “The Lord has made everything for its purpose, even the wicked for the day of trouble.” In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall addresses one of life's hardest questions: “Why?” When suffering happens, not everything has a clear answer. Pastor reminds us that not all events are God's will—there is still sin, brokenness, and evil in the world. At the same time, Scripture teaches that God created everything with purpose. While sin has corrupted creation, God remains sovereign and trustworthy. Even when we do not understand what is happening, we can trust His wisdom and His grace. We must rest in God's character when answers are not clear. We may not always understand why things happen, but we can hold on to the truth that God is good, and everything He created has purpose. ----- Discover fundamental truths and the power of Scripture with Pastor David E. Deuteronomy 6:6–7 (ESV) - “And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.” In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall reminds us that building a lasting inheritance for the next generation goes beyond finances. True legacy is spiritual. Moses taught that God's Word must be passed down intentionally—through daily conversations, consistent teaching, and a life centered on Him. Pastor Sumrall emphasizes that parents and leaders must actively train children in the ways of God, repeating His Word again and again in everyday life. From home to travel, from morning to night, God's truth should shape the environment children grow up in. The world competes for the hearts of the next generation. By consistently teaching Scripture and modeling a life of faith, we can raise children who know God and continue a strong spiritual heritage.
