Daily Devotions: How We Are Commanded to Live in the Church – August 03, 2026

1 Corinthians 1:10 (NLT) – “I appeal to you, dear brothers and sisters, by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, to live in harmony with each other. Let there be no divisions in the church; rather, be of one mind, united in thought and purpose.”   In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall reflects on the biblical command for local churches to function as a unified family. He discusses how the concept of the local church is sometimes undermined by "patronage systems" where people follow specific personalities rather than Christ. True spiritual enrichment happens when a church chooses to set aside quarrels and focus on shared goals.   Pastor Sumrall explains that being "of one mind" is not about following a single human leader, but about being united in God-given thought and purpose. He reminds us that the tithes and offerings are intended to care for the household of God and provide for the spiritual needs of the community. By living in harmony and avoiding the trap of personalities, we ensure that the church remains a healthy place for all of God's family.   ---- Don't forget to like, subscribe to Cathedral of Praise TV https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1,and hit the bell icon

Romans 16:17 (NLT) – “And now I make one more appeal, my dear brothers and sisters. Watch out for people who cause divisions and upset people's faith by teaching things contrary to what you have been taught. Stay away from them.” In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall addresses the difficult but vital topic of handling divisive people within the church. He warns that the most dangerous dividers are not harsh or mean, but are "smiling snakes" who use "smooth and glowing words" to deceive innocent people and upset their faith. These individuals often prioritize their own personal interests and agendas over the health of the Body of Christ.   Pastor Sumrall explains that while some cultures often emphasizes the control of old friendships, believers must be willing to put right and wrong above those connections. He highlights Paul's clear instruction: when you encounter people who teach things contrary to the truth and cause trouble, you must "watch out and stay away". Protecting your faith requires distancing yourself from those who stir up emotions to manipulate others. ---- Don't forget to like, subscribe to Cathedral of Praise TV https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1,and hit the bell icon

Romans 15:18–19 (NLT) – “...They were convinced by the power of miraculous signs and wonders, and by the power of God's Spirit. In this way, I have fully presented the good news of Christ...”   In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall teaches why the Gospel was so effective in the early church, highlighting the four essential components of a "full presentation" of the good news. He explains that it requires not just a correct message, but a messenger whose life is marked by hard work and holiness, accompanied by miraculous signs and the power of the Holy Spirit.   Pastor Sumrall explains that modern "talking heads" who rely solely on persuasive words or celebrity status will not see the same results as those who live a disciplined, holy life. He warns that the messenger's lifestyle is an integral part of the message itself; therefore, we cannot expect the Gospel to have full power if the one preaching it does not live the life. True power comes from the synergy of truth, character, and divine demonstration.   ---- Don't forget to like, subscribe to Cathedral of Praise TV https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1,and hit the bell icon

Proverbs 6:16–17 (NLT) – “There are six things the Lord hates—no, seven things he detests: haughty eyes, a lying tongue...”   In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall discusses a specific list of behaviors that the Bible explicitly states God detests, including haughty attitudes, lying, and the sowing of discord. He emphasizes that these "seven things" provide a clear standard for believers who desire to live a life that is pleasing to God rather than one that invites His opposition.   Pastor Sumrall explains the specific danger of a "lying tongue," noting that lies are like broken feather pillows—once the words are out, they can never be fully gathered back up. He particularly highlights God's hatred for those who sow discord within families or use false witness to destroy others. By focusing on these warnings, we are encouraged to steer our lives toward integrity and peace. ---- Don't forget to like, subscribe to Cathedral of Praise TV https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1,and hit the bell icon

Proverbs 6:12 (NLT) – “What are worthless and wicked people like? They are constant liars, signaling their deceit with a wink of an eye, a nudge of a foot, or a wiggle of a finger.”   In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall shares unpleasant but necessary wisdom regarding how to identify and evaluate the character of wicked and worthless people. Drawing from Proverbs 6, he outlines the traits of those who are constant liars, practice deceit through "code words" or secret signals, and possess perverted hearts that constantly stir up trouble and division.   Pastor Sumrall explains that while these individuals may seem powerful or strong for a season, the Bible warns they will be destroyed suddenly and beyond hope of healing. He advises believers that when they encounter such people, the best response is not to go to war, but to simply "back up" and distance themselves. Learning to recognize these characteristics protects you from getting caught in a mess that leads to the same destructive end. ---- Don't forget to like, subscribe to Cathedral of Praise TV https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1,and hit the bell icon

2 Chronicles 31:10 (NLT) – “Since the people began bringing their gifts to the Lord's Temple, we have had enough to eat and plenty to spare. The Lord has blessed his people, and all this is left over.”   In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall explores the biblical principle of abundance that occurs when God's people respond generously to His Word. Using the account of King Hezekiah, he describes how the faithful bringing of tithes and offerings resulted in great heaps of surplus, proving that God provides more than enough for His work and His people.   Pastor Sumrall explains that abundance in a local church is not the result of manipulation or fundraisers, but is a direct reflection of God blessing His people. He encourages pastors to spend less time figuring out how to "get" money and more time praying for the people and teaching them to fear and follow God. When believers are taught to live right and are subsequently blessed by God, there will always be plenty to spare in the House of God ---- Don't forget to like, subscribe to Cathedral of Praise TV https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1,and hit the bell icon

2 Chronicles 29:3 (NLT) – “In the very first month of the first year of his reign, Hezekiah reopened the doors of the Temple of the Lord and repaired them.”   In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall shows us the powerful example of King Hezekiah, whose very first act as leader was to reopen and repair the Temple of the Lord. This stood in stark contrast to his father, who had abandoned God, shut the doors of the sanctuary, and filled it with defiled things. By making the restoration of God's house his top priority, Hezekiah demonstrated a heart that refused to abandon the Lord.   Pastor Sumrall explains that when leaders are following the Word of the Lord rather than their own agendas, God supernaturally gives the people "one heart" to follow the vision. He warns that those who have no heart for the local church or seek to close its doors often have a heart that has abandoned God. True spiritual renewal begins when we focus on cleansing and restoring our places of worship and walking in obedience together. ---- Don't forget to like, subscribe to Cathedral of Praise TV https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1,and hit the bell icon

2 Chronicles 26:5 (NLT) – “Uzziah sought God during the days of Zechariah, who taught him to fear God. And as long as the king sought guidance from the Lord, God gave him success.”   In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall explores the profound impact that strong spiritual leadership has on a believer's success and stability. Through the life of King Uzziah, who flourished as long as he had the guidance of Zechariah, we see how the right influence keeps our hearts on a right track with God.   Pastor Sumrall explains that the primary role of a spiritual leader is not to dictate personal choices, but to teach believers how to fear and respect God. By keeping strong spiritual leadership in our lives, we are taught to seek the Lord's guidance continually, which serves as a safeguard against the pride and arrogance that can lead to a spiritual downfall. ---- Don't forget to like, subscribe to Cathedral of Praise TV https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1,and hit the bell icon

He addresses the common misconception that mercy is something believers can demand or earn through good works, reminding us that it remains a divine choice made by the Father according to His own purposes.   Pastor Sumrall explains that because mercy is God's decision, it cannot be bought or chosen through our own efforts. However, he encourages believers to always remain humble and prayerful, coming before the Father to ask for mercy rather than attempting to demand it. Understanding God's sovereignty allows us to trust His heart and His compassion in every circumstance. ---- Don't forget to like, subscribe to Cathedral of Praise TV https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1,and hit the bell icon

2 Chronicles 16:9 (NLT) – “The eyes of the Lord search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.”   In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall examines the danger of relying on wealth rather than faith during times of crisis. He uses the example of King Asa, a good king who made the mistake of "throwing money" at a problem by stripping the temple treasuries to buy help, rather than getting on his knees to seek the Lord as he had done in the past.   Pastor Sumrall explains that God is actively searching for those with fully committed hearts so that He can provide them with divine strength. He encourages believers, especially those who have seen God's prosperity, to avoid the trap of trusting in what money can buy and instead return to the position of total reliance on God's help and provision. ---- Don't forget to like, subscribe to Cathedral of Praise TV https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1,and hit the bell icon

2 Chronicles 13:10 (NLT) – “But as for us, the Lord is our God, and we have not abandoned him.”   In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall discusses the deep confidence that comes to a believer's heart by living right. He highlights the story of King Abijah, who stood firm against a vast army and an ambush by declaring his loyalty to God's Covenant. Even when facing overwhelming odds, Abijah's assurance was rooted in the fact that he and his people were following the instructions of the Lord. Pastor Sumrall explains that while everything in our lives flows by grace, there is a specific strength found in doing what is right in the eyes of God. When we trust in the Lord and remain faithful to His ways, we can face any enemy or challenge with the confidence that God is our leader and will hand the victory over to us. ---- Don't forget to like, subscribe to Cathedral of Praise TV https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1,and hit the bell icon

Using the contrasting examples of King Rehoboam and his wise counselors, Pastor Sumrall shows how harshness and fear can drive good people away, while kindness and consideration build a foundation of lasting loyalty.   Pastor Sumrall explains that loyalty is grown in the hearts of people through three specific actions: being good to them, doing your best to please them, and providing favorable answers to their needs. He warns leaders that leading through fear or harshness only serves to run people into the arms of rebels, whereas a leader who brings joy and relief to those they serve ensures a loyal and blessed community. ---- Don't forget to like, subscribe to Cathedral of Praise TV https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1,and hit the bell icon

First, he highlights the specific biblical promise that God's eyes and ears are uniquely attentive to prayers made at the Temple Mount, which is why our pastors personally carry thousands of your prayer requests to the Western Wall in Jerusalem.   Pastor Sumrall also explains a vital principle of project management found in the life of Solomon, who focused on finishing his two greatest projects, the Temple and his palace, before turning his attention to smaller towns. By prioritizing major assignments and seeing them through to completion over twenty years, leaders can avoid being distracted by minor tasks that hinder significant progress. ---- Don't forget to like, subscribe to Cathedral of Praise TV https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1,and hit the bell icon

Your intention is good, but you are not the one to do it.'”   In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall uses the life of King David to illustrate that a good idea or a sincere desire is not always synonymous with God's will. Even though David had the heart, the designs, and the money to build the Temple, God chose his son Solomon for the task, showing that God's plans are not dictated by our good intentions.   Pastor Sumrall explains that while good intentions flow from our hearts to God, His true will flows from His heart to us. Understanding this distinction helps believers remain patient and obedient, recognizing that God in His mercy may allow us to contribute to a vision, as He did by letting David design and pay for the Temple, even if we are not the ones meant to complete it. ---- Don't forget to like, subscribe to Cathedral of Praise TV https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1,and hit the bell icon

Romans 2:24 (NLT) – “No wonder the scriptures say, ‘The Gentiles blaspheme the name of God because of you.'”   In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall discusses the reality that our personal lifestyle choices directly impact God's reputation in the world. He challenges believers to consider how their daily actions, words, and integrity reflect on the “family name” of God, warning that a life inconsistent with the Gospel can cause others to blaspheme or reject the message of Christ.   Pastor Sumrall explains that while we celebrate the principles of grace and mercy, our lifestyle remains a powerful testimony to those around us. By following the example of Zacchaeus, who cared so much for Jesus' name that he made public restitution for his sins. We are encouraged to let our choices reflect a sincere love and respect for our Savior. ---- Don't forget to like, subscribe to Cathedral of Praise TV https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1,and hit the bell icon

1 Chronicles 21:1 (NLT) – “Satan rose up against Israel and caused David to take a census of the people of Israel.”   In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall discusses the spiritual reality that satan often targets leaders in order to destroy the people they serve. Using the account of King David's unauthorized census, he illustrates how a leader's lapse in judgment can lead an entire community into discipline, emphasizing that when a leader is tempted to sin, it affects the entire work of God.   Pastor Sumrall explains the vital importance of leaders taking full responsibility for their mistakes, just as David did when he confessed his guilt and sought God's forgiveness. Pastor encourages the church to pray continually for pastors and leaders, asking that God would help them see through satan's schemes and always find the way of escape provided in every temptation. ---- Don't forget to like, subscribe to Cathedral of Praise TV https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1,and hit the bell icon

1 Chronicles 17:16 (NLT) – “Then King David went in and sat before the Lord and prayed. ‘Who am I, O Lord God, and what is my family, that you have brought me thus far?'”   In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall examines King David's reaction to the incredible, generational promises God made regarding his lineage and the future of Israel. He shows us that a person's response to God's favor and “great and precious promises” is often more revealing of their true character than how they handle pressure.   Pastor Sumrall explains that the proper response to divine blessing is profound humility and intentional prayer. By entering God's presence, sitting down, and acknowledging his own unworthiness, David demonstrated a heart that remained anchored in worship and gratitude even after receiving the highest honors. ---- Don't forget to like, subscribe to Cathedral of Praise TV https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1,and hit the bell icon

1 Chronicles 15:25–26 (NLT) – “Then David and the elders of Israel and the generals of the army went to the house of Obed-edom to bring the Ark of the Lord's Covenant up to Jerusalem with great celebration. And because God was clearly helping the Levites as they carried the Ark of the Covenant, they sacrificed seven bulls and seven rams.”   In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall explores three often-overlooked truths about King David's character that established him as a leader respected even to this day. Beyond his musical talents or his failures, David's life reveals a profound pattern of personal devotion, extreme generosity, and a deep care for the well-being of his own household.   Pastor Sumrall explains that true greatness begins with a heart for worship that prioritizes God's presence above personal dignity. From emptying his personal treasuries to build God's house to ensuring he blessed his family after public service, David's life provides a powerful model for how leaders can maintain a generous and worshipful heart. ---- Don't forget to like, subscribe to Cathedral of Praise TV https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1,and hit the bell icon

1 Chronicles 14:2 (NLT) – “And David realized that the Lord had confirmed him as king over Israel and had greatly blessed his kingdom for the sake of his people Israel.”   In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall reflects on humility as one of the most vital yet often overlooked characteristics of King David's leadership. He highlights the pivotal moment when David realized his promotion and success were not for his own status, but were granted by God specifically for the sake and benefit of the people of Israel.   Pastor Sumrall explains that a truly humble leader recognizes they are merely an instrument in God's hands and ensures that God receives all the glory for what is accomplished. By seeking God's strategy before every action and carefully listening for “how-to” instructions, leaders can remain focused on their God-given purpose rather than personal ambition. ---- Don't forget to like, subscribe to Cathedral of Praise TV https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1,and hit the bell icon
