In today's generation, we've grown used to instant results. We place an order and expect it at our doorstep within hours. We start a job and want to see immediate success. And this mindset has quietly crept into our spiritual lives as well. We invest our time, our energy, and our hearts into our avodat Hashem , but when we don't see immediate results, the yetzer hara whispers in our ears: "Why bother? You've tried and tried—what do you have to show for it?" This struggle applies to so many areas of life: our tefillot , our limud haTorah , our efforts in helping others, or supporting a cause we care about. In the world of Torah and mitzvos, the fruits of our labor are often hidden—sometimes for years, sometimes for decades. But one thing is certain: no effort in avodat Hashem ever goes to waste. There's a powerful mashal that illustrates this: A man plants a seed deep in the soil and faithfully waters it every day. Weeks go by, and not even a sprout breaks through the ground. Discouraged, he stops watering, convinced his efforts were in vain. What he didn't know was that beneath the surface, the seed had already begun to take root. Strong roots were forming deep underground—out of sight, but full of life. Had he waited just a little longer, he would have seen a beautiful tree begin to grow. It's the same with us. The growth is there—we just don't always see it. If it's hard for us to continue, that only makes the reward sweeter. Every moment of hishtadlut —every heartfelt tefillah , every struggle to hold back a sharp word, every time we try to improve—is being collected and counted by Hashem. A person can work on their middot for years and not feel much change. They may still get angry, still feel overwhelmed, still struggle to maintain joy—but then, one day, in a moment they never imagined they could handle, they respond with calm and with strength. And in that moment, they realize: the change was always growing—it just took time to bloom. A woman once said that she had worked on her shalom bayit for years. She gave in. She stayed quiet. She chose peace over winning. But she felt like none of it made a difference. Then, during a difficult moment in their marriage, her husband said to her with tears in his eyes: "You don't know what kind of strength you've been for me all these years." The fruit had been growing all along. It just needed time to ripen. When we keep going—even when we don't see results—that is the ultimate expression of emunah . We believe that Hashem values every step. This world is the world of action. The world of reward is coming. So many of our greatest leaders didn't live to see the full impact of their work. But they kept pushing—and that's what made them great. Rav Aharon Kotler zt"l came to America in the early 1940s, at a time when the country was spiritually barren—especially when it came to yeshiva learning. In 1943, he opened a small yeshiva in Lakewood, New Jersey, with just 14 students. Few believed it would last. But Rav Aharon taught with fire. He poured his soul into building Torah in a land that seemed inhospitable to it. He led the yeshiva for 19 years, 7 months, and 1 day—until his passing. By then, the yeshiva had grown to about 160 talmidim. Modest numbers for nearly two decades of work. But the Rabbanim who remained said: Rav Aharon infused the yeshiva with kedushah . His efforts were l'shem Shamayim , and they would not go to waste. His son, Rav Shneur Kotler zt"l, took over—and remarkably, passed away exactly 19 years, 7 months, and 1 day from when he began. In that time, the yeshiva grew to over 900 boys. Still, the true explosion of growth came afterward. Today, BMG in Lakewood is home to over 10,000 talmidim—arguably the largest yeshiva in the world. Rav Aharon never saw it. But today, in the radiance of the Shechinah , he is surely reaping the reward. He planted the seeds. He watered them with sweat, with mesirut nefesh , and with unwavering bitachon . And Hashem made them grow. So if you're struggling… if you've been trying to grow in your avodat Hashem but don't see the fruits yet—don't stop. Don't listen to that voice that says it's not worth it. Every drop of effort counts. And one day, those seeds will sprout in ways you never imagined. Because the tree always takes time to grow. But the reward… is eternal.
In Episode 164 of the Best Coach Ever podcast, we're calling out one of the biggest lies online coaches love to tell themselves: “I'm doing everything and nothing's working.” Babe… are you really, though?
The time is probably very short for God's return. Are you ready? Do you know Him? Are you serving Him? Are you wasting time? Are you being lazy? Are you being spiritually lazy. We have not time for laziness in any way. We have to get up and get the work done because Jesus is coming soon!
Life can silence us, but God still deserves our praise. In today's devotion, rediscover why singing in the difficult times matters. Like Paul and Silas, your midnight song might just trigger a miracle.
Have you ever felt so discouraged that even getting out of bed seemed impossible? We all face seasons when disappointment and setbacks crush our spirits. Today's devotional explores how to move forward when everything inside you wants to give up.The remarkable story of Nehemiah offers a powerful blueprint for battling discouragement. As a Jewish exile serving in the Persian king's court, Nehemiah learned his homeland lay in ruins—Jerusalem's walls destroyed and his people demoralized. Instead of accepting this reality, he embarked on what seemed impossible: rebuilding both the physical walls and the broken spirit of a nation. What walls have crumbled in your life? Whether you're facing relationship breakdown, career setbacks, health challenges, or spiritual drought, these timeless principles provide a pathway forward. Remember, experiencing discouragement doesn't mean your faith is weak—it means you're human. But like Nehemiah, you don't have to remain discouraged. God stands ready to help you rebuild what seems irreparably broken. We would love to hear your comments. Send us a Text MessageSupport the show

"Discouraged, Troubled, and Frustrated" | Pastor Caleb Farfsing | July 27, 2025 by Pastor Jonathan M. Anderson, Sr.
"...21 But we were hoping that it was He whowas going to redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, today is the third daysince these things happened. ..." Luke24 is one of the most exciting chapters in the Bible as it describes theresurrection of Jesus Christ. When you have a perplexed heart like the womendid at the cross because they found no body, the tomb was opened and Jesusrevealed Himself to Mary Magdalene, I am reminded that Jesus knows our name andreveals Himself to perplexed hearts. And oh, what a difference it makes. Todaywe're looking at verses 13 through 35, where we find two disciples on the roadto Emmaus. They had disappointed, discouraged hearts, and were sad until Jesusopened their eyes. Emmauswas a small village eight miles northwest of Jerusalem. The two men walkingfrom Jerusalem to Emmaus were disappointed and discouraged disciples who had noreason to be discouraged. They had heard the reports of the women that the tombwas empty and that Jesus was alive, but they did not believe them. They hadhoped that Jesus would redeem Israel (Luke 24:21), but their hopes had beenshattered. We get the impression that these men were discouraged anddisappointed because God did not do what they wanted Him to do. They saw theglory of the kingdom, but they failed to understand the suffering. Jesusgraciously walked with them and listened to their "animated heatedconversation" (Luke 24:17, Wuest). No doubt they were quoting various OldTestament prophecies and trying to remember what Jesus had taught, but theywere unable to put it all together and come up with an explanation that madesense. Was He a failure or a success? Why did He have to die? Was there afuture for the nation? Thereis a touch of humor in Luke 24:19 when Jesus asked, "What things?"He had been at the heart of all that had happened in Jerusalem, and now Hewas asking them to tell Him what occurred! How patient our Lord is with us asHe listens to us tell Him what He already knows (Romans 8:34). But we may come"boldly" ("with freedom of speech") to His throne and pourout our hearts to Him, and He will help us (Ps. 62:8; Heb. 4:16). Thelonger Cleopas talked, the more he indicted himself and his friend for theirunbelief. What more evidence could they want? Witnesses (including Apostles)had seen the tomb empty. Angels had announced that Jesus was alive. Witnesseshad seen Him alive and heard Him speak. The proof was there! "Faithcomes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" (Romans 10:17). Thisexplains why Jesus opened the Word to these two men as the three of them walkedto Emmaus. Their real problem was not in their heads but in their hearts (seeLuke 24:25 and 32, and note v. 38). They could have discussed the subject fordays and never arrived at a satisfactory answer. What they needed was a freshunderstanding of the Word of God, and Jesus gave that understanding to them. Heopened the Scriptures and then opened their eyes, and they realized that Jesuswas not only alive but right there with them! Whatwas their basic problem? They did not believe all that the prophets had writtenabout the Messiah. That was the problem with most of the Jews in that day: theysaw Messiah as a conquering Redeemer, but they did not see Him as a SufferingServant. As they read the Old Testament, they saw the glory but not thesuffering, the crown but not the cross. The teachers in that day were notunlike some of the "success preachers" today, blind to the totalmessage of the Bible. Maythe Lord help us to get into the Word and give Jesus and the Holy Spirit timeto open our eyes to the Truth! Remember Jesus parting words to His disciples: “…andlo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age" (Matthew 28:20). Godbless!

On today's solo episode, I'm answering a powerful listener-submitted question from Rachel about one of the most talked-about topics in weight loss right now: Ozempic. If you're committed to doing things the natural way — focusing on real protein, fiber, strength training, and sustainable habits — but feeling discouraged watching others drop weight quickly with the help of medications, you're not alone. That frustration is real, and I hear it all the time. In this episode, I'm having an honest conversation about weight loss medications and what it really means to stay in your own lane. I'm also sharing five hard but important truths I always tell my clients—truths that will reframe your mindset, refocus your energy, and remind you that your results do matter… even if they're happening slower. If you've ever thought, “Why am I doing all this work when everyone else is getting there faster?” — this episode is for you. 1:1 Coaching with Lauren and Our Team of Dietitians: HERE To connect with Lauren, click HERE Submit your question for advice from Lauren on the show HERE Take the free Weight Loss Personality Quiz HERE Shop Our Meal Plans HERE Get Support & Personally Work With Us HERE Related Episodes:
192 If there has been one major underlying concept that I have woven into nearly every episode of this podcast, it is the concept of emotional delegation (or its opposite, emotional agency). BUT I've never made a podcast episode solely dedicated to making sure you understand this concept. So today is the day! I made this episode to clearly define emotional delegation for you, and help you see how it may be playing into your relationship challenges, and so you can start the journey of letting it go — because it is really the #1 underlying habit that pretty much EVERYONE falls into that hurts our relationships (and you're not going to hear about on many other relationship podcasts. I truly can't understand why this gets left out so often, because it is pretty much everything when it comes to marriage problems!)So listen in to learn:What emotional delegation is and how it completely disempowers you in your relationship.Where emotional delegation comes from (hint, both nature and nurture) and why pretty much everyone does it.Signs of what it looks like, so you can recognize if you may have this habit. Why understanding it is so important. Why emotional delegation is so detrimental, and the specific tolls that it takes on you and your relationship. My own personal stories of how it has affected me and my relationships. And what happens when you learn to stop emotional delegating, and step into its opposite: emotional agency. As you recognize that you are emotionally delegating, you hand yourself, and your marriage, a huge win. When you stop doing it, and begin to step into emotional agency, instead, you empower yourself even more, and give your relationship the very best chance to become the truly loving one you have always wanted. Karl Ihfe continues the "Heart of a King" series by examining David's heart of hope during his most discouraging season. Using 1 Samuel 21-30, Ihfe traces how David lost everything—his job, security, family, mentor, and friends—and found himself hiding in caves as a fugitive. When David's men threatened to stone him after the raid on Ziklag, Scripture tells us "David strengthened himself in the Lord" (1 Samuel 30:6). Ihfe outlines four spiritual practices David employed to maintain hope: being honest with God through lament (Psalm 142), taking positive action when God directs it, resisting temptation to take moral shortcuts (as when David refused to kill Saul in the cave), and finding ultimate refuge in God alone. Ihfe concludes by connecting David's cave experience to Jesus' own suffering and resurrection, reminding us that "caves are where God resurrects dead stuff," giving us hope in our darkest moments. https://bwaychurch.org

We live in a world where false teachers abound. Sometimes, these false teachers grow in popularity because they give peppy, upbeat messages people want to hear. But today as we study Jeremiah 5, we'll see that avoiding the difficult messages of sin and judgment can lead to the spiritual decay of the people. Join us in this key chapter as we dive further into this important book of prophecy! DISCUSSION AND STUDY QUESTIONS: 1. If you have just read Jeremiah 5, how did it leave you? Encouraged? Discouraged? Why? 2. This chapter discusses the kinds of sins the people were engaging in plus the kinds of judgment they would face. What do you think are some good reasons to avoid sin? 3. What is the Lord's challenge to the people in verse 1? What is God's offer? What do you expect would have been the people's response to this challenge and offer? 4. What were the people seeming to say in verse 2? How did the Lord regard these words? 5. What social classes are discussed in both verses 4 and 5? What is God's indictment of both? 6. What hazards will the people face in verse 6? What does this indicate about the Lord's removal of His protective hand? What reason is given in verse 6? Why would this affect their ability to prosper under the Lord's protective care? 7. What kinds of sins are spoken of in verses 7 to 11? What kind of society had formed among the people? What kind of society should they have formed? 8. Read verses 12 &13. What were the prophets saying? What does the Lord say about the message of the prophets? Do you any pastors or preachers still do this today? If so, what does it look like? 9. Read verse 14. How does Jeremiah's message in verse 14 contrast with the prophet's messages in verse 14? Which do you think would be more pleasant and popular? Which message was actually from the Lord? 10. What is the Lord warning about in verse 15 – 17? What will happen? 11. Verse 18 gives a glimmer of hope. What is that hope and why is that important for us to remember about God's ultimate plan for the Children of Israel? 12. What kind of spiritual receptivity did the people have towards the Lord in verses 20 to 24? How does verse 25 help us understand why God's rebuke had so little impact on them? What principle can we learn for our own life about our need to walk in paths of righteousness? 13. What further description does the Lord give of the people in verses 26 to 29? Are there any similar parallels to some people in our world today? 14. Verse 31 gives a profound summary of the message of false teachers. What is the authority of a false teacher? What is (sometimes) the response of the people to their message? What might it look like for a false teacher, today, to teach on their own authority? How does this serve to warn us to have discernment with those teachers whom we listen to? Check out our Bible Study Guide on the Key Chapters of Genesis! Available on Amazon! Have you ever battled that sinking feeling of discouragement while trying to change your relationship with alcohol? That overwhelming sense that maybe your efforts don't matter, that progress seems impossible, or that your excuses are simply too powerful to overcome? In this deeply vulnerable episode, I share my recent struggle with discouragement in my own ministry. Despite years of helping women find freedom from alcohol dependence, I found myself questioning if my work was making any difference—if anyone even cared about the message of alcohol freedom. This raw conversation reveals how discouragement functions not just as an emotion, but as one of the enemy's most powerful weapons against our growth and freedom.Discouragement thrives on fear, doubt, and obstacles. It zeroes in on our vulnerabilities and tries to blind us to the truth of who we are and whose we are. The enemy wants us to fixate on our failures, forget God's goodness, and believe we're incapable of meaningful change. But there's profound hope in recognizing this spiritual attack for what it is.Whether you're just beginning to question your relationship with alcohol or you're well along your sobriety journey, this episode offers comfort, solidarity, and practical wisdom for those moments when discouragement threatens to derail your progress. The following is a short piece from a speech Granny D delivered at the Buck Jackson Rodeo Arena in Pecos, Texas on May 14th, 1999:“Never be discouraged from being an activist because people tell you that you'll not succeed. You have already succeeded if you're out there representing truth or justice or compassion or fairness or love. You already have your victory because you are changing the world; you are changing the status quo; you are changing the chemistry of things. And changes will spread from you, will be easier to happen again in others because of you because, believe it or not you with your activism are the center of the world.” CTA: Maybe like me you are coming to realize that activist work is not a job, but a calling to work together.
