How Can I Have Comfort When I Still Feel Guilty? | Christ For YouText: Isaiah 40:1–8 | Fourth Sunday in AdventAdvent says, “Get ready. The Lord is coming.” But what happens when you don't feel ready? What happens when your conscience starts shaking because you know you're guilty? And what do you do when guilt won't shut up and you start to fear that God is angry with you?In this sermon from Isaiah 40, God speaks to a trembling conscience with a verdict, not advice: “Comfort, comfort My people… her warfare is ended… her iniquity is pardoned.” This is not sentimental comfort. It's courtroom comfort. The war between God and sinners ends because God Himself comes near to pardon the guilty.Learn why comfort is not first a feeling but God's objective Word of forgiveness, why your conscience can lag behind the Gospel, and how God anchors your peace outside of you in what does not wither or fade: His enduring Word, delivered to you in Baptism and the Lord's Supper.Subscribe & Share:Apple Podcasts: Christ For YouSpotify: Christ For YouWebsite: ZionWG.orgContact:PastorRojas@ZionWG.org

On today's podcast, Pastor Cameron shares how Christmas and comfort go hand in hand. Jesus came to earth that He may bring comfort and consolation to His people.
In ancient road-building, when a king was coming to a city, workers would literally level the path—remove rocks, straighten curves, fill valleys, clear obstacles—so the king could arrive without hindrance. "Make straight in the desert a highway for our God," John says the same thing needs to happen in the human heart. He is saying repentance removes the rocks, straightens the curves, fills the valleys, builds the bridges, and clears the obstacles to make room in us for Jesus to come. “Repentance” is one of those words that can feel heavy. For some of us, it carries pain. For others, guilt. For others, images of street preachers with cardboard signs. But repentance—in the Bible—is one of the most freeing, healing, life-giving realities in the kingdom of God. It's not punitive. It's not shame-based. It's not God pointing a finger. Repentance is the invitation into becoming whole.

God shapes His people, both Israel in Moses' time and us in present day, through waiting for presence.
12/14/2025 - Sunday Morning Message at Pinheads Family Entertainment Center in Fishers, IN
One of the hardest things about life is the feeling that God has forgotten us when we are in the midst of suffering. Is the Lord too busy to regard our situation? Or is it that He just doesn't care? Isaiah continues to press his point that the Lord is not only all powerful, but He is all wise and all caring
The Scripture readings are Isaiah 40:1-8; 1 Corinthians 4:1-5; and Matthew 11:2-10, 11.God knows the full debt of your sin down to the last penny. And when Jesus pours out His forgiveness, mercy, and salvation on you, it is in double measure of your debt.

"Comfort, comfort my people, says your God." With these words, Isaiah delivers a beautiful proclamation of hope to a people in exile. In part 5 of a special 12-part series connecting Old Testament prophecy to New Testament fulfillment, we encounter the "Voice" crying in the wilderness. This Voice is St. John the Baptist, the herald who prepares the way for the Lord. He calls sinners to repentance, pointing to the truth that while all flesh is like grass that withers and fades, the Word of our God stands forever, and the Messiah has come. The Rev. Robert Smith, pastor emeritus in Ft. Wayne, IN, joins the Rev. Dr. Phil Booe to study Isaiah 40:1–11 This Advent series begins by covering the last Old Testament prophet, Malachi, and then spends twelve episodes alternating between Old Testament prophecy and New Testament fulfillment, tracing God's promises from Isaiah to the birth of Christ. The series explores Emmanuel's promise, the Davidic King, John the Baptist as forerunner, and reaches its climax with the Nativity. The final episodes examine the Suffering Servant, the shadow of the cross in Christ's infancy, Isaiah's Messianic mission statement, and John's declaration that "the Word became flesh." Thy Strong Word, hosted by Rev. Dr. Phil Booe, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church of Luverne, MN, reveals the light of our salvation in Christ through study of God's Word, breaking our darkness with His redeeming light. Each weekday, two pastors fix our eyes on Jesus by considering Holy Scripture, verse by verse, in order to be strengthened in the Word and be equipped to faithfully serve in our daily vocations. It Doesn't Get Any Better Than That Isaiah 40:28-31 28Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. 29He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. 30Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; 31but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Today’s Bible Verse“A voice of one calling: ‘In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God.’” — Isaiah 40:3 Isaiah 40:3 is a prophetic announcement about preparing for God’s arrival—a spiritual construction project long before orange cones made it cool. Spoken originally to bring hope and readiness, it uses the powerful metaphor of clearing a path through a wilderness, symbolizing removing obstacles in our hearts so God’s purposes move forward without speed bumps. Discover the power of praise and the importance of trusting in God's promises to transform a weary soul. The CAUSES of a Weary Soul: (1) WICKEDNESS (Psalm 38:4-6), (2) the WORLD, and (3) WORK. The CURE for a weary soul is the strength of the Lord (Isaiah 40:29-31, John 16:33). The immediate CURE for a weary soul is PRAISE (Psalm 34:1-6, 100:4, Matthew 6:9, Isaiah 61:3, Philippians 3:1, 4:4). We can PRAISE because: (1) GOD IS WITH US (Isaiah 41:10, 43:2), and (2) GOD IS WORKING (John 5:17), and (3) GOD WILL WIN.

In this sermon "Comfort in Sorrow," Pastor Patrick Austin begins a new Advent series exploring passages in Isaiah that prepare our hearts to celebrate Christ's coming. Focusing on Isaiah 40:1-11, Pastor Austin observes that while the Christmas season offers temporary comforts through traditions and material things, we're all searching for something deeper—a comfort that truly saves and soothes our weary souls. The sermon reveals that just as the Israelites in Babylonian exile needed God's comfort, we too need the same message: "Comfort, comfort my people, says your God" (Isaiah 40:1). Pastor Austin explains how this passage points to Christ in three ways: the promise of comfort (God's forgiveness and love), the person of comfort (Jesus as the fulfillment of Isaiah's prophecy), and the proclamation of comfort (the good news that Jesus has come and will come again). He concludes with practical applications: rest in God's promise that He hasn't forgotten us, receive Jesus as the only true source of comfort, and proclaim this message to others who are searching for hope during the Christmas season. Isaiah 40:1-11 Comfort, comfort my people, says your God. 2 Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and cry to her that her warfare is ended, that her iniquity is pardoned, that she has received from the Lord's hand double for all her sins. 3 A voice cries: "In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. 4 Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain. 5 And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken." 6 A voice says, "Cry!" And I said, "What shall I cry?" All flesh is grass, and all its beauty is like the flower of the field. 7 The grass withers, the flower fades when the breath of the Lord blows on it; surely the people are grass. 8 The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever. 9 Go on up to a high mountain, O Zion, herald of good news; lift up your voice with strength, O Jerusalem, herald of good news; lift it up, fear not; say to the cities of Judah, "Behold your God!" 10 Behold, the Lord God comes with might, and his arm rules for him; behold, his reward is with him, and his recompense before him. 11 He will tend his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arms; he will carry them in his bosom, and gently lead those that are with young. Key Words: Comfort, Pardon, Sin, Glory, Behold, Flesh, Word, Good News, Shepherd Keystone Verses: Go on up to a high mountain, O Zion, herald of good news; lift up your voice with strength, O Jerusalem, herald of good news, lift it up, fear not; say to the cities of Judah, "Behold your God!" Here in John's gospel, we get a lengthy behind-the-scenes look at the Last Supper. As Jesus eats the Passover meal with his disciples, he knows that the hour of His crucifixion is drawing near. As both Lord and servant, Jesus leads by example and washes the disciples' feet and commands them to love one another. It's revealed that Judas will betray Jesus, and he departs from the other disciples to execute his plan. Jesus reveals the nature of the relationships within the triune Godhead, describing how the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit relate to one another. Finally, Jesus tells his disciples that they should expect to be persecuted by the world.John 12 – 1:10 . John 13 – 9:25 . John 14 – 15:31 . John 15 – 20:44 . His strength doesn’t run out, and His patience doesn’t expire. The One who created the stars also sustains our hearts, meeting us in our weakness with endless compassion. No matter how many times we stumble or doubt, His love remains steady, and His strength is always enough to lift us again. “Want to listen without ads?
