Fit Shepherds aims to have every man in our community be in the best physical and spiritual shape of their lives. Fit Shepherds are formed through demanding workouts, fraternity, and discipleship.
Mike Bickel recently attended an Unbound Ministry prayer session. He shares a short testimony about the healing and freedom he got from being prayed with and with following the five keys that are part of being Unbound. According to John Kazanjian, the Unbound model of deliverance ministry is not a new teaching. It is a way of applying the Gospel to a person's story, packaged in five steps or “keys”: 1. Repent for your sins; believe in Jesus and surrender your life to him. 2. Forgive those who have hurt you and release them to God's merciful judgment. 3. Close any doors you have opened to the enemy's influence by naming evil and renouncing it. 4. Stand in the authority Jesus gives you and tell the devil to leave you alone. 5. Receive the Father's blessing on your identity and destiny. Come home to God's family. The reason these are called “keys” is that Satan gains access to areas of our lives when we open doors to his influence through sin, unforgiveness, agreement with lies; when we respond negatively to life's pain; when we don't understand our authority in Christ; and when we don't live securely in our identity as sons and daughters of God. Father James, a Fit Shepherd, continues talking about prayer -- specifically about why being attentive in prayer is important. He says that object of prayer is not just to complete a task -- meaning, doing a bunch of Hail Marys while reciting the Rosary -- but developing a relationship with a Person, spending time with that Person and growing in relationship with the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. When we pray like this, we begin to recognize God's voice. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/fit-shepherds/message
Father James, a Fit Shepherd, reviews what he's been talking so far about in relation to Fr. Jacques Philippe's book, "A Time for God." He says that it's helpful to intentionally cut sin out because they separate us from God. We also have to show up. And your disposition matters. Prayer is not about finding the right method, or adopting the attitude of what we need to do in order to make it work -- as if we say some magic words and the right combination will get us to heaven. It's not what we do in prayer but what God does in us. Then, God orients us to Himself and draws us to Himself. Our dispositions need to remind ourselves of the following Truths: having faith and trust in God. He desires a relationship more than we desire a relationship with Him. He cares for us. He loves us. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/fit-shepherds/message
The concept of accountability groups are explained and introduced. This is where each Fit Shepherd is accountable to doing something that other Fit Shepherds will hold them accountable for during the month. Father James Guarascio, a Fit Shepherd, introduces Fr. Jacques Philippe's book, "A Time For God." He talks about how we have to be in the right disposition in order to pray and that means getting rid of mortal sins that we repeat. Keeping god's commandments leads to three things: + Letting God abide in you + Letting God love you + Being able to see God What we do -- in other words, right actions -- matters. And leads to the right frame of mind/soul in order to pray. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/fit-shepherds/message
Father James Guarascio, a Fit Shepherd, shares a reading from St. Paul to the Philippians and talks about what you do and how you live your life matters as a man because, if you set your goal to be heaven, then what you do and how you live will lead you there -- and, hopefully, others you lead, such as your family members. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/fit-shepherds/message
Fit Shepherd, Carlos Briceño, shares about Kobe Bryant's intensity - as evidenced by his Mamba Mentality: doing the hard work necessary for success -- is something that Catholic men need to channel into their faith lives. In other words, if we could use our time and energy that Kobe put into basketball into our prayer lives and relationship with God, we will be on our way to becoming saints. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/fit-shepherds/message
Fit Shepherd, Brian Kibler, leads the group through several questions, which all point to: how do we take how we measure success or met expectations for a goal and overcome them in order to improve? He then relates that to the faith life -- how we need to figure out how set faith-based goals and meet them in order to grow closer to God and set ourselves on paths of holiness. . --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/fit-shepherds/message
