In this episode of Ten Minute Tuesday, the guys take a deep dive into the fascinating history of Herter's—the legendary catalog company that helped shape Midwest hunting culture for generations. Long before online shopping, big-box outdoor retailers, and social media influencers, hunters eagerly waited for the annual Herter's catalog to arrive in the mail, packed with everything from duck decoys and calls to boats, waders, and hunting camp essentials. The episode explores the story of founder George Leonard Herter, whose larger-than-life marketing style turned a small Minnesota sporting goods business into one of the most influential hunting brands in America. From the famous “Model Perfect” slogan and outrageous product claims to the rise of Herter's decoys, boats, and hunting gear, the guys break down how the company changed waterfowl hunting forever and became a cornerstone of Midwest outdoor culture. They also discuss the lasting legacy of Herter's, why old catalogs have become collector's items, and how many of the marketing tactics and gear debates hunters see today trace their roots back to the original hunting empire built in Waseca, Minnesota. If you love waterfowl history, vintage hunting gear, and the stories behind the brands that shaped the sport, this is an episode you won't want to miss. In this episode of Ten Minute Tuesday, the guys dive into the fascinating history of duck calls — from hunters using live decoy ducks and mouth calling in the 1800s to the rise of legendary call makers like P.S. Olt, Victor Glodo, Chick Major, and Phil Robertson. They break down how early mechanical calls changed waterfowl hunting forever, the origins of competitive duck calling in Stuttgart, Arkansas, and how modern duck calls evolved into both hunting tools and pieces of personal identity for hunters everywhere. The episode also explores the split between contest calling and real-world hunting calling, the impact duck calls have had on hunting pressure over the decades, and why understanding the history behind the calls hanging on your lanyard matters. If you're a duck hunter, call collector, or just love waterfowl history, this one is packed with stories, trivia, and insight into one of hunting's most iconic tools. Many believers are questioning why modern church structures often mirror corporate business models instead of the spiritual qualifications found in the early church. In this episode, Pastors Scott and Dallas may have an answer as they explain why the goal of the church is to raise up "men and women of God" whose leadership is simply an overflow of their life as a disciple. Why did pintail limits drop… even when hunters were still seeing birds? In this Midwest Flyways history episode, we break down one of the most debated topics in duck hunting history — the rise, fall, and ongoing management of the northern pintail. From booming populations in the 1950s to sharp declines in the 1960s and 70s, this episode dives deep into the moment when hunters and biologists collided over what was really happening. We cover the real reasons behind pintail population declines, including Prairie Pothole Region habitat loss, agricultural expansion, and why nest success rates crashed below sustainable levels. More importantly, we explore the tension between what hunters saw in the field versus what the data showed — and why that disconnect still exists today. This episode also explains how the pintail debate helped shape modern waterfowl management, including the development of Adaptive Harvest Management (AHM), species-specific regulations, and population-based season structures that still impact duck hunting today. If you've ever questioned duck limits, season changes, or how wildlife agencies make decisions — this is the episode that explains it. Perfect for duck hunters, waterfowl enthusiasts, and anyone interested in conservation, flyway management, and the future of hunting. This week on Ten Minute Tuesday, we dive into the history of waterfowl banding and how it transformed conservation in North America. From early pioneers like Jack Miner to the millions of ducks banded over the past century, these little bands have revealed the true story of migration, survival, and harvest. Banding turned guesswork into data—mapping flyways, shaping hunting regulations, and helping ensure sustainable waterfowl populations. Every band tells a story, and every hunter who reports one becomes part of that legacy. Thanks so much for listening and be sure to subscribe and review! Join Flyways Hunt Club and get 1 month free! In episode 333 of the Glass and Out Podcast we had the honour of being joined by the greatest hockey coach of all time, Scotty Bowman. As a head coach, Bowman led the Montreal Canadians, Pittsburgh Penguins and Detroit Red Wings to a combined 9 Stanley Cups. He also captured another five cups in front office roles. He is the NHL's all-time wins leader, with a total of 1,467 between the regular season and playoffs and was twice awarded the Jack Adams trophy as the NHL's Coach of the Year. But above all else, Scotty Bowman is the ultimate student of the game. He was able to adapt to new rules, new generations of players, the introduction of Europeans to the NHL, and eventually, the influx of Russians that arrived with the collapse of the Soviet Union. He saw drastically different versions of the game from the rough and tumble 70's to the high flying 80's and the dead puck era in the 90's. At 92, his memory, as you are about to hear, is simply remarkable and there is no doubt that ability helped him gain a competitive advantage from behind the bench based on his ability to recall the slightest detail and nuance within a game. Listen as he shares a lesson in hockey history, practice tips from the legend Dick Irvin, and the how he views the current state of today's game. Flyways Hunt Club This week for Ten Minute Tuesday, we're back with another one of Cal's history lessons. This time, we'll be going through the lead shot ban and how that change took place over a few years. After decades of having become accustom to shooting lead and relying on the payload and consistency of lead shot, science told us a story we hadn't really seen as hunters. This story was the reality, birds were dying because of lead poisoning. For many of us, this change happened before we started our hunting journeys and hearing about the changes we've come to know as standard practice are helpful to paint the broader picture of the history of waterfowl hunting! At the same time, Pags gives credit where it's due—Texas Senator John Cornyn earns praise for stepping up to support the bill. Callers from across the country jump in, blasting what they say are outright lies about how voting registration works. In this episode, Caleigh and Sara take a nostalgic (and slightly unhinged) trip down memory lane as they unpack growing up in the 90s, explaining old pop culture to their kids, and realizing that everything we loved is now considered “vintage.”We talk about South Park Wednesdays, MTV back when it actually played music, VHS tapes, dial TVs, and the emotional damage caused by movies like My Girl. We also dive into generational humor, why every age group eventually becomes the punchline, and how Gen Alpha is stepping into the spotlight whether they like it or not. This episode is less about fitness and more about laughing at how fast culture changes, how weird it feels to age in real time, and why every generation swears they had it best. Episode Description:What would you give up if you had to choose between your favorite gadgets—or would you rather invent something wild, like a flying umbrella? That's the question that launches this episode of The JB and Sandy Show, where JB, Sandy, and Tricia dive into the hilarious world of Insta-Gotmes, the struggle for “microgains,” and the surprising history hiding in Austin's neighborhoods. The show opens with Sandy's “One Must Go” challenge, putting JB on the spot to choose between his red light therapy hat, grounding mat, and self-tanning drops. JB admits, “I got flim flam. Three times. Yeah, I am a sucker.” The crew laughs about wellness trends, supplement overload, and the trust JB places in Tricia's nightly pill routine: “If she could kill me, she could slip a cyanide pill in there. I have no idea. No idea. I'm dead.”
Curtis(filling-in for Mark Simone) gives a history lesson of Greenland, and takes calls from Bob in CT, and Danny on Long Island, NY.
