Michael interviews Stephen Logue, an economist and former FMCG marketer who became marketing director at Berni Inns, founded a research-led consultancy, and later owned restaurants.Logue explains how market research identified five consistent drivers of restaurant success—cleanliness, service, atmosphere, food quality, and value for money—and how redesigning and standardizing Berni Inns (including work with Conran) lifted sales and won a Catey. He argues hospitality underinvests in service, emphasizing “hire character, train skills,” building staff confidence and self-belief, and using tools like mystery visits and customer research. He shares “runners and riders” concept testing, a successful Greek concept at Meadowhall, lessons from Wetherspoon's standards and value focus, and the financial importance of repeat customers. Logue now supports independents via pro bono work and promotes simple cost control, menu margin analysis, and clear service promises.Connect with Stephen Logue:https://www.linkedin.com/in/stephen-logue-47227757/https://www.hospitalityblueprints.com/https://youtu.be/2_E_EBbdXpU?si=_0cECaQouijt_8LShttps://www.hospitalityblueprints.com/masterclass-videosBook:https://www.amazon.co.uk/Magic-Malls-Incredible-Customer-Service/dp/1910090638/ref=sr_1_3?crid=GEM2XLEJMP0P&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.lw06nq8ML3KTk_rhrQVeIK8X9HSz5KW3t9INoXg7iSTGjHj071QN20LucGBJIEps.bEQQL7nAGqgyohrPiRxbrwgf3N_jm-_O3tqE8QOnVBw&dib_tag=se&keywords=Stephen+Logue&qid=1780948637&sprefix=stephen+logue%2Caps%2C232&sr=8-3Connect with the podcastJoin the Hospitality Mavericks newsletterTune in via your favourite podcast platform - here More episodes for you to check out here A big thank you to our episode sponsor Monotree. They help hospitality operators strengthen operations and scale company culture by creating a "Branded Front Door" for your workforce.Head to their website to sign up.This podcast uses the following third-party services for analysis: Podcorn - https://podcorn.com/privacy

Tom Logue - January 11th 2026 When we stop listening and obeying, we wander — but prayer shows us the way forward. This week, Tom pauses our King and His Kingdom series to bring a prophetic and pastoral message rooted in Exodus 15 and Numbers 13–14, asking a piercing question the Lord placed on his heart: Why did God's people wander in the wilderness? Though the journey from Egypt to the Promised Land should have taken days, Israel wandered for forty years because they chose complaint over trust and fear over obedience. Through the stories of Moses, Caleb, Joshua, and the people of Israel, Tom shows how forgetting what God is capable of leads to fear, rebellion, and spiritual drifting. The message presses closer to home as Tom reminds us that this is not just Israel's story — it's ours. When we stop listening to God and obeying His voice, we wander relationally, spiritually, and communally. Drawing a powerful modern analogy and tying it to the life of prayer, Tom calls the church to build their lives around ongoing, relational prayer, not occasional moments. Prayer is not a religious task — it's the way we stay close to God, avoid wandering, and walk faithfully toward the Promised Land. As we step into a new year, this sermon invites every listener to examine their life honestly: Are we walking with God, or wandering without Him? The invitation is clear and hopeful — return to prayer, trust the Lord's leadership, and walk forward together into the fullness of His kingdom. Colonial pastoralist Major Logue is a figure of note in the city of Geraldton, Western Australia. But his diaries, written partly in code, reveal a dark and confronting chapter of Australia's past – a history that Yamatji people already know all too well. Descendants of some perpetrator families are now challenging what they call “colonial silence”. For them, truth-telling is real, personal and local. There are no guidelines or rulebooks, and it can lead to denial and indifference – but it can also be a liberation. In this two-part special Full Story, Guardian Australia's Indigenous affairs reporter Sarah Collard and Lorena Allam from UTS's Jumbunna Institute discuss decoding the truth behind Logue's diaries, and how descendants of colonial violence are coming together to heal from the horrors of the past Warning: This episode contains historical records that use racist and offensive language, and descriptions of events that will be distressing to some

Ransom Note

For over two decades, Anna Logue Records has been a beacon for those who understand that the early 1980s represented a golden age of electronic music – a brief, brilliant window when artists armed with synthesisers, drum machines, and raw creative vision crafted something genuinely revolutionary. Founded in 2005 by a collector-turned-curator who spent the mid-90s buried in the minimal synth scene, swapping tapes and haunting eBay for privately pressed 7″s and forgotten cassettes, the label emerged from a simple desire to rescue and celebrate the melancholic yet melodic treasures that deserved far better than wanton abandonment and obscurity. We're happy to admit our ignorance of the label until being alerted via the reissue of Join The Car Crash Set. But having been turned on via that channel we delved deeper… a lot deeper. 0000428969_100 What began with Camera Obscura's debut vinyl LP (through three problematic pressing rounds) has blossomed into a catalogue that honours both the artists of yesteryear and into the contemporary that are keeping the analogue flame alive. The label's ethos is refreshingly purist – this is music made before the digital age smoothed off all those beautifully rough edges and that bleakness when electronics were raw and honest. Anna Logue Records isn't part of the ‘music industry' – it exists in deliberate opposition to it. Non-exclusive agreements respecting artists' autonomy, every release is treated as art or memorabilia rather than product, lovingly designed with original band materials, lyrics, photos, and the meticulous attention of someone who still remembers receiving multiple parcels a day in pursuit of the perfect sound. Sister label Nadanna (a playful portmanteau of founders “Mr. Nader” and “Mr. Anna”) extends the mission into contemporary territory, releasing danceable works that blur the lines between minimal synth, Italo disco, and Electropop. Together, they form a small but vital operation – self-financing, fiercely independent, and still run by that same collector was too busy discovering bottomless pits of forgotten electronic to pay too much attention at college. The mix you're about to hear traces the label's journey in reverse, alternating between Anna Logue and Nadanna releases, from timeless classics like League of Nations' “Fade” to previews of what's next. It includes what the label's founder calls “the perfect electronic pop song” (Blipblop's “Ögat som ser”), features a performance from Rational Youth's Tracy Howe on Techniques Berlin's “Cold War”, and closes with the achingly beautiful “Zara In The Stars” – written by Quieter Than Spiders' Leon Zhang in memory of a beloved dog at a sanctuary, a reminder that these endeavours carry real meaning beyond the music. Twenty years in, with projects like Delayscape's double album and new Twins Natalia material still in the pipeline, Anna Logue Records continues doing what it's always done; unveiling music that should be heard, released with passion by people who genuinely love it, for those who understand that sometimes, the best technology is the one that came before everything got polished to death. Best get that mix on and have a chat hey… Interview here: https://www.theransomnote.com/music/featured-music/anna-logue-records-a-flavour-of-the-label-mix/ @annaloguerecords

Send us a textWe live in a culture that numbs pain instead of naming it. When life unravels through loss, trauma, or burnout, we're often told to “move on,” “stay positive,” or “just have more faith.” But what if the way forward isn't denial—it's lament? In this episode, pastor and writer Allyce Fogle-Logue joins us to talk about her new book Heaven's Ache—a forty-day journey through the Psalms that reclaims lament as a sacred rhythm for the soul. Born out of her own season of grief, Allyce invites us to rediscover the language of honest sorrow, where we can bring our pain before God without pretending everything's okay.Together, we explore why lament isn't weakness but worship, how it helps us process loss with hope, and why the Church needs to recover this forgotten practice. Whether your wounds are fresh or long-hidden, this conversation will help you lament like you mean it—and encounter the God who meets you in the ache.Support the show

Colonial pastoralist Major Logue is a figure of note in the city of Geraldton, Western Australia. But his diaries, written partly in code, reveal a dark and confronting chapter of Australia's past – a history that Yamatji people already know all too well. Descendants of some perpetrator families are now challenging what they call ‘colonial silence'.

What happens when the life that looks perfect on paper leaves you feeling empty inside? In this revealing conversation with bestselling author Kayla Logue, we challenge conventional definitions of success and explore what it truly means to live a fulfilling life.Kayla shares her remarkable journey from feeling trapped in a "storybook" existence to boldly redefining her path as an author, multi-unit Pilates franchise owner, and founder of the nonprofit Move Into Words. With raw honesty, she recounts walking away from her seemingly perfect life with just $900 to her name—a decision that ultimately led to authentic happiness and meaningful success."Success really does look different for everybody," Kayla explains, highlighting how our pursuit of external validation creates a cycle of emptiness rather than fulfillment. We discuss why so many people remain stuck in unfulfilling relationships, jobs, and situations, afraid to make changes that could lead to greater happiness. Through Kayla's personal experiences, we uncover how journaling with genuine intention helped her process emotions, create clarity, and chart a new course aligned with her true desires. The conversation tackles the myth of overnight success in entrepreneurship, revealing the consistency, patience, and sacrifice behind every achievement. Kayla dispels common misconceptions about building businesses, emphasizing that true success comes from living authentically and prioritizing what matters most: time freedom, meaningful relationships, and mental and physical well-being.Whether you're questioning your current path, feeling trapped in golden handcuffs, or simply curious about redefining success on your own terms, this episode offers powerful insights on breaking free from societal expectations and creating a life that feels genuinely successful—not just on paper, but in your heart.Follow Kayla's journey on Instagram @KaylaLogue and check out her book "Always Squeezing Lemons" to discover how redefining success might be the key to finding your own happiness.Join the What if it Did Work movement on FacebookGet the Book!www.omarmedrano.comwww.calendly.com/omarmedrano/15min
