Keeping Death Green: New Burial Options for Body Disposition

What if your final farewell could honor both your legacy and the planet? Welcome to an insightful exploration of the 11th installment of the Good Death Seminar Series, where we unpack the concept of "Keeping Death Green." Together, we explore how technological and medical advancements have transformed our perceptions of death, often veering away from its sacred nature. By revisiting historical perspectives and highlighting the gaps in contemporary hospice care, we aim to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of life's final chapters. What does it mean to choose environmentally conscious end-of-life options? We dive into this critical topic by comparing traditional funerals with more sustainable alternatives like natural burials, water cremation, and human composting. We share invaluable insights into how these practices not only reflect personal and spiritual values but also contribute to environmental stewardship. We discuss the economic and ecological benefits of these greener options, inspiring listeners to consider the legacy they'd like to leave behind. From reducing carbon footprints to supporting biodiversity, these choices empower individuals to honor their loved ones while caring for the planet. Lastly, we touch on the profound impact of body donation and other earth-friendly burial practices. By exploring the societal and personal implications of these choices, we highlight their role in medical education and environmental preservation. Our conversation stresses the importance of communicating end-of-life wishes and choosing reputable programs, ensuring that one's final act serves a greater purpose. We wrap up by reflecting on the sacredness of life and death, urging listeners to embrace the opportunities for growth and transformation that they present. Join us in reimagining the end-of-life journey as a meaningful transition that respects both our humanity and the earth.   We dive into: (00:00) Global Check-In (07:59) Green End-of-Life Burial Options (17:04) Eco-Friendly Burial Options Discussion (25:50) Eco-Friendly Burial Options Comparison (41:02) End-of-Life Planning and Donation Options (47:01) The Sacredness of End of Life   If you found this podcast helpful, please Rate, Review, & Follow so we can reach more people.   Links mentioned in this episode: Doulagivers Institute FREE Doulagivers Institute On-Demand Level 1 End of Life Doula and Family Caregiver Training Webinar Buy The Good Death Book The GOOD DEATH GOOD LIFE Live Monthly BOOK CLUB and Q&A   80-90% of a positive end of life depends on these two things: Knowing the basic skills on how to care for someone at the end of life and planning ahead - and Doulagivers Institute is giving you for both for FREE! What if the secret to a meaningful, fulfilling life isn't about chasing the loudest passion or forcing yourself into a version of success that doesn't fit — but about finding your natural flow and trusting where it leads you? In this thoughtful, honest conversation, we explore the deeper nature of contentment. It's not just about being happy or settling — it's about discovering who you truly are beneath the noise, and building a life aligned with your unique talents, dispositions, and spirit. We unpack why many of us start down paths that aren't really meant for us, why it's okay (and sometimes necessary) to pivot, and how being honest with yourself is the compass that will lead you to the kind of work and life that feel natural and deeply rewarding. This episode is an invitation to stop forcing what isn't meant for you — and start leaning into what is.     Key Takeaways: Stop Forcing It: Why trying to be something you're not robs you of ease, flow, and fulfillment The Journey of Discovery: How starting somewhere — even in the “wrong” place — is part of uncovering what's true for you The Role of Inner Honesty: How regular, honest check-ins with yourself help you stay aligned with your spirit and avoid chasing ideas of success that aren't yours Talent, Disposition & Flow: Learning to recognize your natural talents and inclinations, and how embracing them leads to more meaningful, sustainable contentment Letting Go Without Quitting: How to discern the difference between giving up and making a wise, necessary pivot Your Life, Your Fit: Why nobody else can tell you where you belong — and why that's the beauty of it     Why Listen? If you've ever felt like you're trying too hard to make something work, or like your life isn't quite fitting the way it should, this episode will help you recalibrate. It's a conversation about self-trust, adaptability, and finding peace in the often messy, non-linear journey of creating a life that actually belongs to you. Tune in and let's explore the art of living a life built on contentment — not compromise.   -- (Photo by Tim Mossholder on Unsplash)   ...And if you're loving the show, don't forget to hit that SUBSCRIBE button, SHARE IT with your friends, and VISIT OUR WEBSITE for even more content!  www.WayoftheArtist.com

#203: An Ocean of Grace, Saumanasya - The Cheerful Disposition of the Yogi's Mind

Yoga Inspiration

Many of us come to yoga seeking relief. Relief from pain, from restlessness, from uncertainty. And sometimes we find it. But over time, what we discover is more lasting than relief. We discover presence. We discover steadiness. We discover a kind of joy that doesn't have to shout. It only has to be. So we practice. Not to get rid of pain, but to know it. To meet it with clarity and care. And in that meeting, we find something remarkable: joy is still possible.   It is a joy that knows sorrow. A happiness that is not threatened by difficulty. This is the depth of saumanasya. Saumanasya is defined by Patañjali as cheerfulness—it could also be translated as “mental clarity,” “gentle gladness,” or even “spiritual contentment.” But this is not about putting on a smile or chasing a feeling. It's the natural radiance of a mind that has become unentangled. In Pāli, the same word appears as saumanassa, and it's spoken of as a kind of mental vedanā—a feeling tone that arises not from external stimulation, but from deep, internal stillness.   It's not the kind of joy that explodes in celebration or depends on everything going our way. It's the joy that arises when the striving quiets down. When the noise fades. When the heart is unburdened. And perhaps most beautifully, it's a joy that does not replace suffering, but includes it.   Practice LIVE with me exclusively on Omstars!

How does God remove sin and make a person new? In this sermon on regeneration, Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones explains that it is the result of the work of God's Holy Spirit applying the work of Christ to the hearts and minds of those that are called according to His will. When people are granted the gift of God's grace by the work of the Spirit, they are transformed and renewed. They are new creatures and part of the new creation that Christ has brought and will bring. The transformation that is brought about by regeneration does not change the substance of people, but it renews their minds and gives them new desires. These new Spirit-gifted dispositions result in a new life. This is the life of the Christian who seeks to love God and their neighbor. It causes them to love new things that they once despised, and it causes them to hate old things that they once loved. This is brought about by the sovereign work of God in the life of sinners that He chooses to renew and adopt into His family. This work cannot be directly perceived, nor can it be understood fully, but it is the beginning of the new life. It is a rebirth that wholly and completely reorients the will and desires of a once sinful people. It is the fountainhead of the new life in Christ.
