Happy Holidays!Rudy got the flu for Christmas she's laying low this week and sharing episode 4 from his previous podcast Guys With Cancer. We hope you enjoy it.
So this movie came out in 2011 starring Joseph-Gordon Levitt and Seth Rogen that is a fictionalized retelling of writer Will Reiser's real life struggle with a spinal cancer. Did it do a good job of portraying what it's like to deal with cancer? Is it a good movie? Should you see it? Like cancer itself, the answer is complicated and very dependent upon the person. I was about to do something completely different with this episode but then I made the mistake of checking my phone right before recording. Rudy's been out of town so he's presenting you with one of his personal favorite episodes from his previous podcast Guys With Cancer. And don't worry... if you don't have cancer, you'll probably still get something from it and the well-intentioned folks who make suggestions. Interestingly, this was recorded just before Covid 19 was a known thing. Do you have any feedback for the podcast? Or maybe you'd like to participate in some manner? Send an email! In this episode of the R3 Podcast, Rudy redoes one of the first interviews he ever did with two members of one of his all-time favorite bands, Soulside. While this interview dives somewhat into the history of the band and the bands spawned from it ( Girls Against Boys, Rain, Like The Sound of Trains, and Paramount Styles), it focuses more on the relationships between the four members and lessons learned from their unusual history. Also FYI they have a new album “ A Brief Moment in the Sun” coming out on Dischord Records on November18, 2022! Do you have any feedback for the podcast? In this episode of the R3 Podcast, Rudy explores what might‘ve been if he had made some different choices in his life by talking with his friend multi-instrumentalist and social media icon THE Mike Squires. Instead of talking about the obvious stuff, Rudy steers the conversation towards a game of one-up-man-ship over who's had more jobs. Some other topics come up, mostly deep philosophical stuff cuz Rudy is in the middle of an existential crisis. And oh yeah, this episode may or may not contain audio of an actual murder. We're not saying, but apologize if such things are triggering for you. Don't worry, you can skip the first six minutes of the episode and just get to the good parts with Mike. Also, cancer is never mentioned in this episode, but hopefully it will give you some insight into life anyway. And we never discuss Mike being a volunteer fireman. In this episode of the R3 Podcast, Rudy speaks with Craig Wedren, a musical artist associated with the pioneering band Shudder To Think, the soundtracks to many films and television programs well as several diverse-sounding solo albums. His unique voice and approach to music composition not only deeply impacted Rudy but many other way cooler artists as well. This conversation not only covers Wedren's musical history, but also his health ordeals which include cancer and a heart attack. Things get even deeper with a look at Wedren's ongoing Sabbath Series project. Along the way, Rudy mines lessons from Wedren's non-traditional life to explore ways to improve one's life. It's all just food for thought and, per usual, things get… a bit “different”. If you're unfamiliar with Craig's work, Rudy recommends starting with Get Your Goat (Shudder To Think) and Adult Desire (solo). In this episode of the R3 Podcast, Rudy further explains the proper way to listen to and absorb the content of the overall series… sort of. When every episode is different, it's hard to get a handle on everything. Also included are two episodes of Rudy's previous podcast with Jeff Neurman called Guys With Cancer. While it is a "cancer podcast" hopefully you can get something from listening. The first is an introduction to the hosts and the second covers common "cancer verbiage". Please excuse the subpar audio quality. The next episode will have substantially less cancer talk in it. Hopefully. Auditory hallucinations are not always a form of mental illness that require treatment. Regardless, if you experience hearing voices, please consult medical assistance as Rudy has. In this episode of the R3 Podcast, Rudy mixes things up yet again and conducts the first of many “bucket list” type interviews to come with folks he finds super interesting. And yes, cancer comes up but barely and it's in the context of us all having crap storms to deal with in life. The bulk of the interview is about her music career teching, engineering, and producing many artists you know onus her decision to leave it all to use her powers for good in the world of science. In the next episode, Susan and Rudy will be discussing and listening to five songs from the book.
