We've said it before, but the 90s were the peak time for "chick"-fronted alternative rock bands. There were so many good ones and among them was that dog. fronted by this week's guest, Anna Waronker. They only managed three albums, but they made a great impression. Anna put out a couple solo albums, but she also pivoted to making music for TV which she's done successfully for a while. She currently does the music for Yellowjackets with musical partner Craig Wedren of fellow 90s survivors Shudder to Think. We discuss her whole career, her legendary dad Lenny (who was just accepted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame), her famous friends like Maya Rudolph and Jack Black, her husband Steve McDonald of the band Redd Kross (she did the music for the recent documentary on the band which is now available to rent at the link below), and a ton more. This is our conversation with Yellowjackets composers Anna Waronker and Craig Wedren. In this in-depth conversation, we explore the sonic mystery box they've crafted over the past three seasons of the show. From eerie guttural vocalizations to layered dissonant harmonies—and even deep forest tree burps—they break down key sections of the score, revealing how they capture the intense emotions of the characters. Plus, they discuss the unique challenges of composing for the same characters at different points in their lives, from their teenage years to adulthood. "Why Cleveland?" is the question I get when I tell people I moved from Chicago to Cleveland, mostly from people IN Cleveland. This Very Special Episode of This Is Your Afterlife does not answer "why" and in fact cautions against reading too much into every little detail of such a huge life transformation. My lovely pal, very funny comedian, and big TIYA fan Claire Favret helps me tease it all out.Content warning: employment, power outage, crappy apartment, COVID precautions, reckoning with the concept of sour grapes, relationship between making a living and making art, disillusionment with standup, commute soundtrack, are you a club or BLT?Here's the Craig Wedren post on the 30th anniversary of Shudder to Think's Pony Express Record, which I reference. If you believe in This Is Your Afterlife and want the uncut conversations and bonus episodes, become a patron for $5 or $15/month at patreon.com/davemaher. On this week's Talkhouse Podcast, we've got two guys whose work I've admired for decades, but who I never realized were as close as they are personally: David Wain and Craig Wedren. Wain is a writer-director-actor (and more) who first came to fame with the hilarious sketch-comedy group The State, whose mid-'90s MTV show was and is a cult sensation—and still holds up to this day. Proof of that: The State has been doing reunion shows recently, and today's podcast was inspired by the fact that I saw today's other guest, Craig Wedren, in the audience for their recent Chicago show. After The State, Wain went on to direct a bunch of hilarious movies, including Wet Hot American Summer, Wanderlust and Role Models. He's also done lots of acting, and way more stuff than I can list here in a reasonable amount of time. On top of that, he started the just-for-fun, cheekily named Middle Aged Dad Jam Band, whose core also includes State alumnus Ken Marino and lots of big special guests. The Jam band will be playing at SF Sketchfest, which starts today, with tons of other great acts, including… The State. Craig Wedren started his career as the singer of Shudder to Think, the DC-based band of art-rockers whose early records came out on Dischord. After that band split up—which had something to do with Wedren being diagnosed with a pretty serious cancer in his mid-20s—he switched his focus to scoring and soundtrack work, at which he has undoubtedly succeeded. He's made music for tons of TV and film, including many of Wain's projects. He's also made some fantastic solo albums, including one that's due for release next week called The Dream Dreaming. It's maybe the most accessible thing he's ever done, but as Wain points out in this conversation, accessible music by Craig Wedren is still beautifully odd. Check out “Play Innocent” from The Dream Dreaming. As a huge fan of both Shudder to Think and The State, I'm surprised I didn't realize that Wain and Wedren weren't just professional collaborators, but literally life-long friends. They've known each other since they were about 4, and they started making creative things together not long after that—they get into that history here. In this conversation, they talk about their history together, what they're doing now, the ups and downs of doing it yourself, bath-time tips, and Wedren's health issues over the years, including one that just happened. It's a great chat. Enjoy. Thanks for listening to the Talkhouse Podcast, and thanks to David Wain and Craig Wedren for chatting. Studio Soundtracks takes listeners behind the scenes of how music is crafted for film and television by hearing directly from composers, songwriters and music professionals in the Entertainment Industry. Listen to inspiring conversations about composition and hear works from Emmy, Grammy, and Oscar-winning film scores on the show. CRAIG WEDRENCraig Wedren first gained notice as the dynamic, multi-octave-wielding frontman of Shudder to Think. With its eccentric song structures and complex time signatures, Shudder to Think would prove a significant influence on math rock, post-hardcore, and emo. Since the band wound down in the late-'90s, Wedren has released a series of solo albums and related collaborative projects, and his music has become an essential part of some of film and television's most popular and lauded shows. Beginning with the soundtracks for the late-'90s films High Art and First Love, Last Rites along with his Shudder to Think bandmates, Craig's composing resume has gone on to include extensively working with director Lisa Cholodenko (The Kids Are All Right) and David Wain (Role Models, Wet Hot American Summer). Wedren would go on to create evocative, decidedly contemporary scores for cultural-touchstone films and television series including The School of Rock, Laurel Canyon, Reno 911!, GLOW (Netflix), Fresh Off the Boat (ABC), Shrill (Hulu), New Amsterdam (NBC) and, most recently, the wildly popular Showtime series YELLOWJACKETS. ANNA WARONKERAnna Waronker is a composer, songwriter, singer and artist. Well known as the front woman and songwriter for the Los Angeles based band that dog., Anna has taken her unique melodic and harmonic sensibility and personal lyrical wit into composing for film and television. Notable scores and soundtracks include the limited series adaptation of Tegan & Sara's best-selling memoir, High School (FreeVee), Shrill (Hulu) with whom she co-composed with Craig Wedren, I Love That For You (Paramount+ with Showtime), the animated series Harriet The Spy (Apple), the cult classic Josie And The Pussycats, Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist, and many more. Anna has also worked in theater as a composer penning the music, book and lyrics with Charlotte Caffey (Go-Go's) for Lovelace A Rock Opera (The Hayworth Theater, Edinburgh Fringe Festival) and songs and score for a musical adaptation of Hit The Wall and Lily Tomlin and Jane Wagner's The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe (Los Angeles LGBT Center/Davidson/Valentini Theatre). As a singer, performer and recording artist, Anna has produced and released two solo albums and four albums with that dog., most recently the critically acclaimed Old LP (UMe) in 2019. Recently, Anna has been busy working on the third season of Call Me Kat (Fox) and the young adult mystery School Spirits (Paramount+). Anna is currently working on the second season of the Emmy nominated and Critic's Choice winner Yellowjackets (Paramount+ with Showtime) with Craig Wedren. The duo write and perform a very unique and celebrated score. For season two of Yellowjackets, Anna and Craig have written an original song that features Hedwig and the Angry Inch's John Cameron Mitchell and collaborated with Alanis Morrisette on an alternate version of their Hollywood Music in Media Awards winning main title of Yellowjackets entitled “No Return.”
On this episode, I spoke to composers Anna Waronker and Craig Wedren about their work on Yellowjackets. Waronker and Wedren were HMMA Award winners for Best Main Title in a TV Show/Limited Series for Yellowjackets. They were also HMMA Award nominees for Best Original Score in a TV Show/Limited Series for Yellowjackets.

Indie Rock Legend, Lou Barlow, is our guest this week and it was truly an honor to interview him. He created the music for the 1995 cult classic Kids with John Davis aka the band Folk Implosion. We covered this soundtrack for our very first episode. The movie also features a previously released song from Lou's band Sebadoh, and a song from his Deluxx Folk Implosion. The soundtrack spawned the Top 40 Single, "Natural One". We chat about Kids and working with our favorite soundtrack supervisor, Randall Poster. We also discuss the various shows and movies that have licensed Lou's music. We also talk about Lou's acting debut in Lisa Cholodenko's 2002 film, Laurel Canyon (which was scored by Craig Wedren who I interviewed last year for the podcast). And last but not least, we talk about Lou's new podcast, Raw Impressions which he co-hosts with his wife, Adelle. It launched late last year. Holy rain covered cat! This episode is one of the ones I am most proud to share. Here at EOE headquarters, it's no surprise how much we love this band and this record, so it was a complete labor of love and honor to get to go so deep with it and with the band. That's right, the entire band! There's even a surprise at the end of the journey/episode for all those brave enough to traverse to the bitter/sweet end. Join Drew and I as we talk until our jaws hurt. As an added bonus, James Parker (from Yeast) tells us about why this is his all time favorite Dischord release in a return of our quick-hit segment. Come on in, the waters...strange.
As we approach the end of 2022, we look back at some of our favorite conversations that we had to cut out of our regular episodes. We'd like to thank all of our guests in 2022! In this episode of the R3 Podcast, Rudy speaks with Craig Wedren, a musical artist associated with the pioneering band Shudder To Think, the soundtracks to many films and television programs well as several diverse-sounding solo albums. His unique voice and approach to music composition not only deeply impacted Rudy but many other way cooler artists as well. This conversation not only covers Wedren's musical history, but also his health ordeals which include cancer and a heart attack. Things get even deeper with a look at Wedren's ongoing Sabbath Series project. Along the way, Rudy mines lessons from Wedren's non-traditional life to explore ways to improve one's life. It's all just food for thought and, per usual, things get… a bit “different”. If you're unfamiliar with Craig's work, Rudy recommends starting with Get Your Goat (Shudder To Think) and Adult Desire (solo). As the Emmys swerve just around the corner, I wanted to take a look at one of the year's best shows -- Showtime's Yellowjackets, which is currently up for three Emmys, including Outstanding Drama Series. The witty, darkly comic series tracks the trials and traumas of a high school girls' soccer team stranded in the mountains by a plane crash, and the ways their situation ripples through into the future of the survivors decades later. It's a (literally) killer showcase for its cast, including Melanie Lynskey, Christina Ricci, and Juliette Lewis as adult versions of the crash's few remaining survivors. And the story is filled with amputations, poisonings, blood sacrifices, and explosions -- and that's only in one-half of the show's time-hopping tragedy. With its heady mix of Lost and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, it's easy to see why it's getting so much praise. One hardly-undersung element, ironically enough, is the score courtesy of Craig Wedren and this week's guest, Anna Waronker. A veteran of the LA alternative/indie scene, Waronker made her bones as frontwoman of alt-rock band that dog, she soon moved into film and TV composing with films like Josie and the Pussycats and, most recently, shows like Hulu's Shrill. Those grungy alt-rock roots are in full force in her and Wedren's work on the Yellowjackets, personified in its earworm of an opening title track, "No Return." This week, I'm here with Anna to talk about coming up as a composer, how her riot-grrl sensibilities translated to film and TV scoring, and the subversive approaches she and Wedren took to Yellowjackets (as well as her solo work for fellow Showtime comedy I Love This For You. Both Yellowjackets and I Love This For You are currently streamable on Showtime. You can also listen to the score for the first season of Yellowjackets on your preferred music streaming service courtesy of Lakeshore Records.
To celebrate 2 years of Soundtrack Your Life, we present to you a very special guest: Craig Wedren, the former Shudder to Think front man, and current TV/Film composer. Craig fronted the highly influential rock band, Shudder to Think in the late 80s/early 90s before the band turned to soundtrack work. Shudder to Think soundtracked Jesse Peretz's 1997 film, First Love, Last Rites and 1998's Lisa Cholodenko's 1998 film, High Art. Craig continued to work the TV/Film space, creating music for films such as Wet Hot American Summer, School of Rock, and Role Models as well as TV shows like Reno 911, Don't Trust the B*tch in Apartment 23, Fresh Off the Boat, Shrill, New Amsterdam and Yellow Jackets. Shudder to Think happened to be on the bill for Ryan's first concert and Ryan has followed Craig's career ever since. They chat about: How Craig got a crash course in film scoring in college How he continues to work with his crew from college How the all-star vocal roster for First Love, Last Rites came about Why he has a vocal coach credit for Anchorman Returning to Wet Hot American Summer for Netflix How Craig met collaborators: Theodore Shapiro, Jefferson Friedman, and Anna Warronker For More Information about Craig Wedren: Website: https://www.craigwedren.com IG: https://www.instagram.com/craigwedren Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/craigwedren
Theodore Shapiro is one of the emerging superstars of film and television composing, with a background in comedies and recent breakout hits such as Apple TV+'s SEVERANCE, directed by Ben Stiller. Teddy talks about getting started on another breakout hit YELLOWJACKETS before handing off the series to his friends Craig Wedren and Anna Waronker. Then, we dive into the intensely cinematic, deeply intimate and isolated music for SEVERANCE. Plus, how Teddy and Ben Stiller found their groove during pandemic lockdowns. Jon Reilly from the Life's But a Song Podcast stops by to talk about Richard Linklater's 2003 film, School of Rock. A movie that has since become a musical on Broadway. There was enough discussion about School of Rock to fill this episode as well as an episode on Life's But a Song, so please check that out as well, with guests Ryan and Nicole. The soundtrack for School of Rock is a mix of some original tunes from a couple of fake bands (The School of Rock and No Vacancy) as well as music from a bunch of classic rock royalty... and also The Darkness. We dive into the song writers for the fake bands (Warren Fitzgerald, Craig Wedren, and Sammy James Jr), the rock score for the film (by Craig Wedren), and our favorite soundtrack supervisor, Randall Poster, who has supervised soundtracks for Richard Linklater films multiple times. I've got to say, it's great to have a chance and excuse to explore the liminal worlds of Shudder To Think even further. They're always one of my favorite groups to interview so it was great to catch up with Craig, Stu, Chris and Mike again. And don't worry, it's not me and Jeff rehashing the same things we said last episode about the release. We got our friends Drew Lichtenberg and Scott Sheridan to drop by and drop the needle for us (i.e- break down their thoughts on the release and the band). Hope its as much fun to listen to as it was to record!
En este episodio Rana Fonk les habla del soundtrack plagado de rock alternativo y hip hop de los '90 de la genial serie Yellowjackets. Suenan desde The Smashing Pumpkins, Salt-N- Pepa, Dinosaur Jr., The Cranberries hasta Portishead. El score es compuesto por Craig Wedren y Anna Waronker de las bandas Shudder to Think y That Dog.
Right before Craig Wedren's influential DC band Shudder To Think broke up in 1999 and sent him into a momentary career freefall, they had scored several films including Velvet Goldmine. Five years earlier, Shudder had their claim with a record called The Pony Express Record for Epic that was as polarizing as it was genre-twisting; artsy, prog leaning, angular and sexy rock songs set within complex arrangements; this work translated perfectly into his post-Shudder life and work as composer for movies like School Of Rock, Wet Hot American Summer, Laurel Canyon, Shrill, Glow and now the excellent YellowJackets, streaming now on Showtime.
In this episode, we interview Craig Wedren. The former Shudder To Think frontman continues to release solo records in addition to his work composing music for film and television. Wedren's latest forays include the score and theme to hit Showtime drama Yellowjackets (with Anna Waronker) and the score to Reno 911! The Hunt For QAnon (with Matthew Wang). In this podcast, Craig talks about the albums, songs and concerts that changed his life and inspired him to make music. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/magnet-magazine/support

This week we're discussing every album by Shudder to Think. Led by Craig Wedren, Shudder to Think started out on Ian Mackaye's Dischord Records before becoming one of the craziest (and most short-lived) major label acts. Proggy, heavy, punky, and fun as hell. Wedren went on to become an accomplished TV composer (Wet Hot American Summer, Reno 911!, The Whitest Kids U' Know), which is something none of us were expecting.Closing track: “Pebbles” from Get Your Goat (1992)Check out our episode playlists on Spotify!https://open.spotify.com/user/motherpuncherincJoin our Patreon to jump the line when requesting an artist, as well as get bonus episodes, early access to shows, and more!https://www.patreon.com/everyalbumeverMerch available now!https://pandermonkey.creator-spring.com/Instagram:Follow Mike @pandermonkey for show clips and original musicFollow Alex @motherpuncherMike's Picks:Pony Express Record (1994) — Best Album, Personal FavoriteFuneral at the Movies (1991) — Worst Album, Least FavoriteAlex's Picks:Pony Express Record (1994) — Best AlbumGet Your Goat (1992) — Personal Favorite50,000 BC (1997) — Worst Album, Least FavoriteAlbums we discussed this episode…It was Arson EP (1988)Curses, Spells, Voodoo, Mooses (1989)Ten Spot (1990)Funeral at the Movies (1991)Get Your Goat (1992)Pony Express Record (1994)50,000 BC (1997)

Wow, it's hard to believe we're already moving into the next era of Dischord history with this release. Welcome to 1988, this record heralded a sound and spirit unlike anything you've heard before in DC or on Dischord. This is a feral, untamed and unashamed beautiful beast of a vibration. It spoke of possibilities and dreams, of angelic harmonies and swirling energy. Why are we now seeing a resurgence of musical TV shows? Craig has created musicals for many TV shows (like Glow, Shrill, and Wet Hot American Summer) and joins Mark, Erica, and Brian due to his work on Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist. We talk about narrative excuses for breaking into song, musicals on TV vs. film vs. stage, musical episodes on non-musical shows, and more. Watch Craig's daily Sabbath Sessions at facebook.com/craigwedrenmusic. For more, visit prettymuchpop.com. Hear bonus content for this episode at patreon.com/prettymuchpop. This podcast is part of the Partially Examined Life network and is curated by openculture.com.
Cedric Bixler-Zavala is best known as the explosive vocalist for bands like The Mars Volta and At The Drive-In, but he is also an accomplished drummer. He and Joe discuss: a punk rock video arcade in El Paso, TX; drumming in punk band Foss with Beto O'Rourke; the unique story behind his surname; selling bootlegged cigarettes on tour to make ends meet, just before experiencing explosive success; 90s punk dogma; and the lifelong creative dynamic between himself and his creative brother, Omar Rodríguez-López. As a bonus, Craig Wedren, who happens to be a creative influence on both Joe and Cedric, drops by to talk about his meditative Sabbath Sessions. Because we're in lockdown due to the Corona virus outbreak. We're recording by phone and bringing you new episodes of The Trap Set every day for the foreseeable future.
A brief introduction to Sabbath Sessions.
In the latest edition of the Geektown Behind The Scenes podcast, I sat down to interview Jefferson Friedman, composer of the score for DC Universe's 'Harley Quinn' series, and co-composer on the brilliant medical drama ‘New Amsterdam’.Jefferson is a multi-award winning composer, who has composed classical music which has been performed throughout the United States and abroad. Since 2014 he has been working in LA across film and tv providing scores for shows such as 'Powerless', 'Wet Hot American Summer', and his latest projects - 'Harley Quinn', and ‘New Amsterdam’ which he co-composes with his friend Craig Wedren. The 'Harley Quinn' series, which has recently been picked up in the UK by E4, follows Harley’s adventures after she breaks up with the Joker and strikes out on her own in this new adult animated comedy. With the help of Poison Ivy and a ragtag crew of DC castoffs, Harley tries to earn a seat at the biggest table in villainy: the Legion of Doom. The cast is led by ‘Big Bang Theory’s Kaley Cuoco who voices Harley and is backed up by an impressive list of talent. Lake Bell (‘BoJack Horseman’, ‘Boston Legal’) provides the voice for Poison Ivy, with Diedrich Bader (‘Veep’, ‘BoJack Horseman’) voicing Batman, and Alan Tudyk (‘Rogue One’, ‘Firefly’), voicing both Joker and Basil Karlo, aka Clayface. Be warned, this is very much a "not safe for work or children" trailer below!'New Amsterdam', which premieres on Amazon Prime in the UK, with further airings on More4, is a unique medical drama starring Ryan Eggold (‘The Blacklist’) as the brilliant and charming Dr. Max Goodwin, the institution’s newest medical director, who sets out to tear up the bureaucracy and provide exceptional care. How can he help? Well, the doctors and staff have heard this before. Not taking “no” for an answer, Dr. Goodwin must disrupt the status quo and prove he will stop at nothing to breathe new life into this understaffed, underfunded and underappreciated hospital – the only one in the world capable of treating Ebola patients, prisoners from Rikers and the president of the United States under one roof – and return it to the glory that put it on the map.In the interview, Jefferson discusses writing a 'Harley Quinn' score which fits the manic nature of the character, along with finding themes appropriate for the supporting cast. This raises questions such as "what do plants sound like?" for Poison Ivy, or "how do you get an underwater sound?" for Aquaman. We also talk about working with scoring partner Craig Wedren on 'New Amsterdam', and creating a sound which is as unique and different for a medical drama as the show itself. Craig Wedren is a Midwest native whose father owned a fast food chain. He spent some time in DC, fronting the influential band Shudder to Think, while developing a career as a film composer, eventually moving to LA. In many ways, Craig’s life has the most parallels to Joe’s of any Trap Set guest. Craig and joy discuss: divorce; Little Tavern; DC; Shudder to think; Musical Ecstasy; becoming “muted”; emerging the “muted” state via life coaching; vulnerability; and film composing.
Drummer Adam Wade talks about his upbringing in DC/NY, early musical mentors, DC drumming influences, seeing a young Dave Grohl, the early 90’s and touring with Naked Raygun, Helmet, Smashing Pumpkins, Fugazi & more, Keith Moon and the Monkees as influences, recording Grippe & Novelty with Jawbox, his experiences with Shudder to Think and acclimating to both the music and singing with the unique style of Craig Wedren, tough crowds with STT, playing with the Motels & Krist Novelselic, Jody’s propensity’s for injuries and subsequent gig cancellations vs Adam’s ability to not be injured (but played through vertigo), re-crunching the numbers on calculated risk, watching Brendan Canty, Jimmy Chamberlin’s drumming live, & more!~ https://www.filmschoolmusic.com/

You may know him from the "avant-punk" of 1990s Shudder To Think, but you'd probably been listening to Craig Wedren in some way in the last twenty years. From his frequent collaborations with writer/director David Wain on the various Wet Hot American Summer television seasons and movie, Role Models, Stella and Wainy Days, to his recent work on shows like Fresh Off The Boat, GLOW, Powerless, Hung and Blunt Talk, or his contributions on films such as Velvet Goldmine, School of Rock, Search Party, Wanderlust and many more, Craig has put his ear for 70s rock radio and 80s MTV to work. He stops by to talk about his latest solo release, Adult Desire from 2016, and discuss the virtual reality component that took us back to the immersion of yesteryear when audio and visual worked in thoughtful tandem. We also discuss his years spent in the Cleveland area, fronting teenage coverbands and enjoying the sounds of the Michael Stanley Band and Donnie Iris on WMMS, his apprehension writing music for 1990s based television, watching director and former Lemonheads bassist Jesse Peretz burn a suitcase on tour, and of course, KISS, plus so much more. Concluding on William James's Psychology, the Briefer Course (1892). We briefly cover emotions and spend the bulk of our time on will. James’s introspective method allows us to distinguish reflex or coerced actions from voluntary, free-seeming ones, and gives us the vocabulary to attribute moral virtue to those who have enough willpower to keep those inconvenient truths in mind (if you eat this, you’ll get fat!) that allow us to successfully resist temptation. Listen to part one first, or get the unbroken, ad-free Citizen Edition. Support PEL! End song: "Join the Zoo/Live Again" by Craig Wedren; listen to him on Nakedly Examined Music #15.
On this episode of Making Ways, filmmaker Tim Nackashi joins the show to talk about his first steps into the world of film, share behind-the-scenes commentary about some of his acclaimed music videos, and deliver great advice for aspiring filmmakers. Tim is a self-taught director. He grew up playing in bands, studied painting in college, and first earned his stripes working on his documentary Dirty Work, executive produced by Ed Norton. Over the years, Tim has created visually groundbreaking, often high-concept music videos for OK Go, Maroon 5, Death Cab for Cutie, TV on the Radio, Craig Wedren, and many more. As Tim discusses his work, you’ll get to know the process by which he pitches and directs and learn more about the powerful short films he’s helmed over the years, such as Through the Wall and Is History Repeating Itself?, both focused on the human stories behind some of today’s most heated debates. You’ll also hear about the reality of on-set life and the challenges of breaking through in the world of entertainment. Tune in for a new episode, shot on location in Los Angeles, with award-winning filmmaker and my friend Tim Nackashi.
On this episode, we speak with Craig Wedren, former frontman of Shudder to Think, who’s composed music for nearly every project from MTV comedy troupe the State, including Reno 911! Miami, Balls of Fury, and the 2001 cult classic, Wet Hot American Summer. We talk the fascinating story of how Wedren got to where he is today, as well as recent projects such as NBC’s DC Comics sitcom, Powerless, and the new movie, How to Be A Latin Lover.
Craig led Shudder to Think from 1986 to 1998 and has since had a solo career and done soundtrack work. Shudder to Think was a band that started as part of Washington DC's "hardcore" scene, but challenged musical conventions to try to achieve U2-level success with Captain-Beefheart-level weirdness (they failed). We discuss their song "Pebbles" from Get Your Goat (1992), then go post-Shudder to "Show Down" by Craig's short-lived pop-dance band, Craig Wedren & Baby. Then we talk about working on assignment on "I Am the Wolf, You Are the Moon," for Wet, Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp. We also listen to "Heaven Sent" from Crag's album Wand (2011). The opening music is "X-French Tee Shirt" from Pony Express Record (1994) and the closing music is the theme from The State. Learn more at craigwedren.com. Hear more Nakedly Examined Music.

The season of Fall is upon us. Lisa Tobias returns again to the show. That can only mean one thing: It's time for the Couch Surfing podcast, baby! It feels good to be back in the swing of things.00:02:28 - Lisa is enjoying the updated version of 90210. John is indifferent.00:05:35 - The Fringe pilot caused unintentional laughter from John, but Joshua Jackson is a bad-ass, so he's going to keep watching.00:15:16 - True Blood was a bit of a letdown for Lisa, but she's still on board. John is reminded of Sundown, starring Bruce Campbell.00:19:34 - John is finally watching Six Feet Under. So far, he's not impressed, finding much of Alan Ball's work cold and one-note.00:27:52 - Free DVD rentals from the Library are exposing John to mediocre entertainment such as the Amityville Horror remake and Babel, but he strongly recommends the special edition of David Cronenberg's The Fly.00:35:55 - Be sure to pick up the long overdue special releases of Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club and Weird Science this month!00:38:12 - At the end of this month, keep an eye out for the tenth anniversary release of Can't Hardly Wait. Hopefully, we'll get to see more of Amber Benson in the film!00:40:05 - While trying to catch up on Bones online, John has to deal with his first ever serious virus on his computer. A system recovery (F10) was performed. Everything is fine, now.00:42:25 - Due to the computer virus, John had to read stuff (!). When all is said and done, he finishes the novelization of Can't Hardly Wait, but was left kind of bored with the Brian Michael Bendis graphic novel, Powers: Who Killed Retro Girl? (Answer: The Butler did it. Just kidding.)00:45:36 - John is curious to check out the reboot of Geek By Night, and recommends listeners to do the same. He wonders how much of his input remains in the show, if any.00:49:38 - A shout out to Geek By Night and Buffy Between The Lines alum, Rachel Ruzzo.00:55:51 - We get our Neil Patrick Harris fix by watching Harold & Kumar: Escape From Guantanamo Bay.01:02:11 - John & Lisa are hopeful they can take Tim Minear up on his offer to be on the show soon (call us, Tim! Let's do cyber lunch!).01:03:04 - The show wraps with Lisa recounting her experience at Dragon Con. NOTE: Sorry we didn't have time to get to listeners' emails. We'll hit it next recording! The following artists can be heard in this episode:Three Dog Night, Weezer, Penguin Cafe Orchestra, Eberg, Rolling Stones, Sneaker Pimps, Tom McRae, John McEntire, Massive Internal Complications, Simple Minds, Depeche Mode, Thirteen Senses, Van Halen, Mickey Avalon, Elvis Costello, Badly Drawn Boy and Craig Wedren.
