The First Letter to the Thessalonians offers us hope that our journey from death to eternal life is sustained through the saving work of Jesus Christ. (Lectionary #431) September 1, 2025 - Cathedral Rectory - Superior, WI Fr. Andrew Ricci - www.studyprayserve.com
Hello listeners! Thank you for joining us for this intriguing discussion on physical death and resurrection.
Our baptism signifies and seals to us the fruit of Christ's death and resurrection. We will see: 1. The rich meaning of this for our present life 2. The consequences it involves for our present life
For the latest Scots Whay Hae! podcast Ali spoke to writer and musician Andy Bollen about his latest book Definitely Maybe: The Birth, Death and Resurrection of Oasis, a timely publication - out now with Polygon Books.Although this book is ostensibly about the band, it's actually part-memoir concerning Andy's life in and around music, as well as an overview of British, and particularly Scottish, culture in the '90s.The two talk about public perceptions of Oasis, their own initial thoughts, the pros and cons of Britpop, the changing face of indie, the lost art of A&R, their own musical memories across that decade, and much, much more.At the heart of this story is the infamous night at Glasgow venue King Tut's Wah Wah Hut - 31st May 1993 - where, to over simplify hugely, Oasis were spotted by Creation Records' Alan McGee.It's one of those occasions where if everyone who said they were there actually was it would have broken the laws of physics, and a number of myths and legends have been told over the years as a result. To capture that sense of uncertainty there are five separate chapters dealing with that evening giving various points of view (think Rashomon, classic film fans) and Andy (who was definitely there) talks about the reasons for this, and his attempt to get to some form of truth. This is a warm and engaging conversation about a time in popular culture which was in part shaped by Oasis and the hype around them, but which acknowledges and celebrates the fact that there was so much more going on. It's also touches on the nature of storytelling itself. Whether you were there or not this is a podcast you'll be sure to enjoy. This week we walked through the wonder of Jesus Christ, from his eternal existence to his return. We marveled at the miracle of his birth, the mystery of his perfect childhood, and the power of his ministry: Healing the sick, calming storms, casting out demons, and raising the dead. Every moment of his life pointed to the mission for which he came, to seek and to save the lost. That mission is not abstract. It's personal. Jesus came for you. Jesus came for me.We saw the wonder of his death and resurrection, how he took the full weight of sin on himself and conquered the grave so we could have life. And that's not the end of the story. Jesus is returning, and until then, he has given us a mission. Go and make disciples. Go and tell the world the good news. That the broken can be made whole. That the lost can be found. That life is possible in the name of Jesus Christ. Let his kingdom come and his will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Jesus' Death and Resurrection Tore the Veil that Stood Between You and a Personal Relationship with God MESSAGE SUMMARY: With the “Veil torn”, Jesus wants your life-focus to be on following Him -- your life should be about impressing Him and not others. Jesus assumes that Jesus Followers will practice the piety of giving, praying, and fasting; therefore, they will do things in the right way and with the right motives. To this end in Matthew 6:16-18, Jesus instructed the Apostles in fasting: “And when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, that your fasting may not be seen by others but by your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.". Therefore, your worship and prayers should be about growing and deepening your personal relationship with God and not in consideration of others and their impressions of you. TODAY'S PRAYER: Lord, I come this day inviting you to cut those deeply entrenched chains that keep me from being faithful to my true self in Christ. In doing so, may my life be a blessing to many. In Jesus' name, amen. Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 44). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, Because of who I am in Jesus Christ, I will not be driven by Hatred. Rather, I will abide in the Lord's Love. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5). In this episode, we delve into how elderhood offers a unique spiritual opportunity to reflect on one's spiritual bucket list and identity beyond profession and family roles. Our discussion also covers the spiritual practice of preparing for the end of life, including planned giving and legacy planning within the church. We explore the importance of advanced directives, funeral planning, and the creation of a comprehensive guide to aid individuals and families in navigating these pivotal decisions. Additionally, the video touches on a new program at St. Mary's during Lent titled 'Leave A Legacy,' which educates congregants on medical and spiritual concerns, legal and financial considerations, probate processes, and estate planning. Viewers are encouraged to think deeply about their spiritual and financial legacies and the importance of their contributions to the future of the church community. 00:00 Introduction to Elderhood and Spiritual Bucket Lists 00:48 Spiritual Practice and End-of-Life Preparation 01:24 Legacy Planning and Financial Gifts 04:06 Funeral Planning and Personal Preferences 10:45 Lenten Program: Leave A Legacy 17:34 Diocesan Support and Future Planning 21:36 Conclusion and Final Thoughts

In 1 Corinthians 15:1–2, the apostle Paul wrote: “Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.” We typically interpret Paul's gospel in terms of the doctrine of justification by faith, with good reason. In Romans 1:17, for example, Paul wrote, “For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed — a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: ‘The righteous will live by faith.'” And yet, in 1 Corinthians 15:3–7, Paul focused on what happened to Jesus Christ — His death and resurrection, not on what happened through Jesus Christ. Christ's death and resurrection are the cause, and our justification — including our own resurrection from the dead — is the effect. As we approach the holiest days in the Christian calendar — Good Friday and Easter — I want to devote a podcast to discussing the theological foundations of the gospel with Allen Tennison. I'm George P. Wood, executive editor of Influence magazine and your host. Allen Tennison is theological counsel of The General Council of the Assemblies of God and chair of the Commission on Doctrines and Practices. ————— This episode of the Influence Podcast is brought to you by My Healthy Church, distributors of The Holy Spirit in the Life of the Discipler. Passover is a prologue to Jesus' life, death, and resurrection. This most essential of Jewish feasts seamlessly transitions from prophecies in the Old Testament, to fulfillment in Jesus. We invite you today to see how this prophetic landscape is shaped with divine orchestration by the hand of our deeply loving God! Passover is a significant Jewish feast that not only commemorates the deliverance of the Hebrews from slavery in Egypt, but also points to Jesus' mission and identity. We invite you today to navigate through the rich tapestry of the Passover tradition, examining its prophetic nature for the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. You can purchase the Spring Feasts workbook to take notes while you listen, including the gorgeous visuals we created to accompany your experience: https://www.gospelspice.com/offers/ct6coMYd The observance of Passover, with its sacrificial lamb, bitter herbs, and unleavened bread, is rooted in Old Testament events. Two lambs are central to this feast: one for each family and one to be sacrificed at the temple. The sacrificial lamb of the feast points to Jesus Christ, who becomes the ultimate sacrificial Lamb for our redemption. The act of painting lamb's blood on doorframes to prevent death eerily prefigures the sacrificial significance of Jesus' blood. Jesus deliberately fulfills the Passover feast of Pesach by instituting the Lord's supper, and by going to the cross on our behalf. From washing his disciples' feet as an act of servanthood, to identifying Judas as the betrayer, Jesus adds new meaning to His last Passover meal - from the way He references the Passover elements, to how He identifies as the rejected stone becoming the cornerstone (Psalm 118). The Passover feast is inextricably linked to the mission of Jesus, from the symbolism of the Passover elements to Jesus' own actions during the Last Supper. For instance, the 3rd cup of the Passover meal, identified as the cup of redemption, embodies the essence of the new covenant, which Jesus describes as the cup of his blood shed for the salvation of humanity. Join us to experience Passover as Jesus did. Don't forget to check out our essential workbook to accompany this study. Stephanie personally created the content to invite you deeper into study. The Catechism tackles Jesus' bodily resurrection from the dead which is the “the crowning truth of our faith in Christ". Fr. Mike makes sure we understand that Christ's resurrection cannot be interpreted as a legend or a metaphor, but as a true, historical fact. Today's readings are Catechism paragraphs 638-644. This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB. William Taylor - God assembles his true people around the kingly rule of Jesus the Christ. That much is plain from Jesus' words to Peter that ‘I will build my church' on this rock. However, there is much about the kingly rule of Jesus that men and women, naturally, find deeply offensive.

Reformed Brotherhood | Sound Doctrine, Systematic Theology, and Brotherly Love
n this episode of the Reformed Brotherhood, Jesse and Tony explore Colossians 2:11-15, a passage rich with theological truth about our spiritual transformation in Christ. The discussion begins by examining the concept of spiritual circumcision, not performed by human hands, but accomplished by Christ Himself. This circumcision represents the cutting away of our sinful nature, symbolizing the inward renewal that comes through faith in Jesus. The hosts emphasize how this spiritual reality is tied to the Old Testament covenant sign of circumcision, demonstrating its fulfillment in Christ. The conversation moves into the significance of being buried and raised with Christ through baptism. Jesse and Tony unpack how baptism mirrors our union with Christ in His death and resurrection. They highlight how our record of debt, symbolizing the guilt and penalty of sin, has been canceled and nailed to the cross. This powerful imagery reminds listeners of the sufficiency of Christ's work on their behalf and the assurance of forgiveness and new life in Him. Finally, the brothers reflect on the triumph of Christ over sin, death, and the rulers and authorities that stood opposed to Him. They discuss the implications of being made alive in Christ, not only for our future hope of bodily resurrection but for our present reality as those who are spiritually raised and seated with Him in the heavenly places. This episode challenges listeners to rest in the sufficiency of Christ and to reject any theology that adds to His completed work. Key Points: Spiritual Circumcision in Christ: Jesus performs a circumcision not made with human hands, cutting off our sinful nature and bringing about inward renewal. Buried and Raised with Christ: Baptism symbolizes our union with Christ in His death and resurrection, demonstrating our forgiveness and new life through His work. Canceling the Record of Debt: The guilt and penalty of sin are removed as Christ nails the record of our debt to the cross, securing our justification. Triumph Over Sin and Death: Christ disarms rulers and authorities, demonstrating His victory over all powers that stood against Him and His people. Union with Christ: Believers are spiritually raised with Christ and seated with Him in the heavenly places, reflecting a present and eternal reality. Questions for Reflection: How does the concept of spiritual circumcision deepen your understanding of God's work in your life? In what ways does baptism symbolize your union with Christ in His death and resurrection? What does the phrase “canceling the record of debt” mean to you, and how does it influence your view of forgiveness? How does Christ's triumph over rulers and authorities encourage you in your daily walk of faith? What does it mean to you that you are already spiritually raised and seated with Christ in the heavenly places?
Zack leads us in a discussion of the theology of “being asleep in Christ”— the time between death and final resurrection day and how we can experience the Prince of Peace in our final days.
