This Saturday night on Johnny Beane TV, we kick things off with a tribute as we read a story about the passing of Phil Campbell, legendary guitarist of Motörhead. Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family, friends, and fans around the world. Then we take a quick behind-the-scenes mini studio tour, where you'll see some of the guitars hanging behind me and the gear that powers the show. I also reveal a guitar amplifier that was gifted to me today—and trust me, we'll be doing a full demo video with it very soon. After that, things get really cool… we unbox some awesome gifts from guitar legend Gary Kramer! I recently spent some time down at his place a couple weeks ago, and I've got exclusive footage from that visit that I'll be sharing with you guys very soon. It's guitars, stories, surprises, and rock ‘n' roll—all happening tonight on Johnny Beane TV!

Movies open a window into our collective soul. In Screen Captures: Film in the Age of Emergency (Lever Press, 2026), Stephen Lee Naish guides us through recent cinematic phenomena that reflect/refract our contemporary political existence. Stephen Lee Naish is a writer, independent researcher, and cultural critic. He is the author of several books on film, politics, music, and pop culture. He lives in Kingston, Ontario. He has appeared on the New Books Network three times for previous books: Create of Die: Essays on the Artistry of Dennis Hopper (2016), Deconstructing Dirty Dancing (2017), Riffs and Meaning (2018) From Star Wars-scope blockbusters and Hollywood coming-of-age comedies to independent horror productions, Naish draws out the ways these movies shape, and are shaped by, their audience's own dissatisfactions. In his discussion of the Star Wars franchise, Naish highlights a conflict between internet discussion-fueled fandom vs the Disney Empire that shares features with the ongoing rebellions depicted in the films themselves. A passionate fan base who can now voice their discontent via the internet is feeding back into the studio's agenda and criticizing the actions of characters within the film and the actors alike. Chapters on the super-heroes genre and disaster movies draw out the climate-based social tensions these reflect. Depictions of masculinity ("Men on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown") on screens large and small bleed into discussions of the work and presence of Nicholas Cage, David Lynch, and Dennis Hopper -- with a side-excursion into Valerie Solanas's strikingly prescient SCUM Manifesto. Stephen Lee Naish's Screen Captures adds a sharpening filter to the film-goer's experience on the big and little screen. TrulySignificant.com brings back a favorite guest, author and futurist Marc Morgenstern. Read his books..The Soul of Deal Making...is our favorite. Here's why you should listen to Marc.Marc is significant because he reframes the concept of “deal making” from being purely transactional to being deeply relational, values-driven, and purpose-centered. Here's why that matters: 1. He Elevates Deal Making from Tactics to Character Most books on deal making focus on:Negotiation tacticsFinancial engineeringLegal structureCompetitive advantageMorgenstern shifts the conversation to:IntentIntegrityAlignment of valuesLong-term relationship healthHis central idea is that great deals are not won — they are built. And they are built on trust, clarity, and shared purpose. 2. He Connects Business with Soul The “soul” in Soul of Deal Making represents:AuthenticityMoral groundingEmotional intelligenceRespect for all stakeholdersThis is especially significant in an era when:Short-term wins often override long-term sustainabilityDeals can damage reputations if misalignedLeadership credibility is fragileMorgenstern argues that the quality of the deal mirrors the quality of the people making it. 3. He Bridges Strategy and Humanity His work resonates with leaders who:Care about culture as much as capitalBelieve business is a vehicle for impactWant to create outcomes that endureRather than viewing negotiations as adversarial, he promotes:Mutual value creationListening deeplyUnderstanding motivations beneath positionsThat's a higher-level view of business — closer to stewardship than conquest. 4. Why It's Relevant Today In a world of:PE rollupsStartup exitsComplex partnershipsCross-border M&ADeals fail less because of math and more because of:Misaligned expectationsCultural incompatibilityEgoPoor communicationMorgenstern's message anticipates this reality. 5. Broader Significance His contribution sits in the same philosophical neighborhood as:Conscious capitalismStakeholder-driven leadershipValues-based entrepreneurshipHe reminds leaders that the true asset in any transaction is trust.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/success-made-to-last-legends--4302039/support.

In this week's episode, Paul Andrews dives into a fundamental topic for guitar beginners: what sets a riff, a lick, and a solo apart? Understanding these building blocks is essential for learning songs, improving improvisation, and practicing with intention.Key Topics CoveredBeginner Guitar Academy Updates"Wonderful Tonight" Song Study is being re-released on Friday, February 13th, just in time for Valentine's Day. The updated lesson will have in-depth breakdowns of lead and rhythm parts, along with play-along tracks featuring scrolling tabs.February's Live Member Q&A is set for Monday, February 23rd at 9 pm GMT / 4 pm EST / 1 pm PST. Submit questions ahead of time if you can't attend live—recordings will be available for all members. What is a Riff?A riff is a repeating, recognizable musical idea and often forms the backbone or foundation of a song.Iconic examples: "Smoke on the Water," "Sunshine of Your Love."Riffs repeat often, sync with rhythm & groove, and are usually played the same way every time.If you're a BGA member, check the riff section for 75+ riffs and the workshop section for themed riff collections. What is a Lick?A lick is a short, reusable musical phrase, like a "word" you can insert into solos or different playing contexts.Licks are flexible and show up in various songs and keys. Blues and rock are full of classic licks recycled by greats like B.B. King, Albert King, and Joe Bonamassa.Key traits: short, flexible, easy to move around.Find blues licks and "Quick Licks" lessons inside the Academy. What is a Solo?A solo is a longer musical statement, usually constructed from multiple licks.Great solos are like stories, with phrases, space, dynamics, and emotion (think David Gilmour's "Comfortably Numb").Solos aren't just fast runs—they use repetition, variation, and phrasing.BGA members can check out the workshop "Learn to Play 5 Beginner Guitar Solos" for a progressive solo study. How Do They Work Together?Riff = song identity.Licks = your vocabulary.Solos = arranging licks into a musical story. Most beginners miss the "lick" step when trying to solo. Learning licks is crucial.Common Beginner MistakesCalling everything a solo.

This episode is our third and final installment of a special, three-part Reid Riffs miniseries focused on what it actually means to become AI-native. In this episode, Parth shares how founders can rethink work by breaking problems into modular pieces, orchestrating AI agents in parallel, and collapsing timelines that once required entire teams days of iteration. Using real-world examples like coding agents that tackle week-long engineering challenges to reimagining how content can be localized across languages and regional markets, the conversation explores how AI enables small teams to operate with outsized leverage. Along the way, Reid and Parth discuss what separates real AI traction from “AI theater,” how founding teams are evolving, and why the most powerful AI often works best when it fades into the background, quietly amplifying human creativity and ambition. Instead of a news or headline-driven conversation, Reid sits down one-on-one with AI engineer and strategist, Parth Patil, for a deeper exploration of how AI is changing the way people and organizations work. In this second episode, they discuss why most enterprises are still talking about AI without truly integrating it (“AI theater”), and how the real shift begins inside everyday workflows rather than strategy decks. Together, they explore how language models and agents can reduce friction in communication and coordination, reinvent meetings, and turn unstructured information into actionable insight (with examples). They also examine how AI-powered analysis, automation, and parallelized agents are accelerating decision-making, reshaping roles, and moving work from execution toward orchestration. Parth and Reid both highlight how an open mindset and experimentation are required to collaborate effectively with these systems as AI evolves from a productivity tool into a foundational layer for thinking and leadership.
