These incidents would be amusing if they weren't so dangerous. A peculiar brand of medical misinformation that comes with an official stamp of approval is at play here. It speaks volumes about the state of scientific literacy among our leaders. This is the result of a carefully cultivated ecosystem where scientific temper has been systematically dismantled. The transformation of fringe theories into institutional policy was so gradual that many missed it. It started with our scientific institutions being demolished. Having replaced scientific temper with superstition, we're now watching the cost being calculated not in crores, but in preventable tragedies,' says Karanjeet Kaur, journalist and former editor of Arré, in this week's column.

After heart disease cancer is the leading cause of death in the US. Forty percent of Americans will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Timely diagnosis and treatment of cancer has always been a concern made worse by the COVID pandemic and the ongoing problem of un- and under-insurance. Another reason for concern is the increasing use of networked-based social media sites used to advertise bogus cancer cures, particularly to Generation Z, or those 27 or under, who increasing use social media sites as de facto search engines. Dr. Baker's recent research reveals health disinformation is rife on TikTok via its “For You” algorithm that directs users to fake cures and conspiratorial content via primarily five themes including personal anecdotes, conspiracy theories and spiritual messaging. Recently, someone who will remain unnamed in alternative media went on the attack against John Richardson, son of Dr. John Richardson Sr whose work with Ernst T Krebs in the 1970s exposed the wonders of apricot seeds to the world. In the attack video posted to YouTube by a man who won't even show his face on video, a 1978 and 1981 study were looked at, presenting completely false information about animals, cyanide and more with extremely easily debunkable claims. The creator of the video had to go out of his way to find these studies which leave out the additional chemical compounds used alongside laetrile which caused the problems noted in the dogs in the study. This is not just stupidity. It's wrong. Millions of lives have changed due to apricot seeds (or Vitamin B17) and hundreds of studies have been done on dogs and cats, not to mention mice with far higher dosages and absolutely no death. Instead, the studies were met with great success. As soon as chemotherapy entered the scene, amygdalin which was accepted as a useful tool against cancer by the FDA (and health organizations including the National Cancer Institute) suddenly ended up the target of vicious big pharma attacks. G. Edward Griffin wrote the book "World Without Cancer" many decades ago and the thousands of testimonials from people whose lives were changed forever have filled our past videos. Stories of the tribes who've lived off of apricot seeds have been told as their life expectancy rates high. Being the mother of 5 children, my 5th one, adopted later in his life and mine, the thought of losing any one of them, is unimaginable. This episode is about the unimaginable - a mother, a family, who lost a beautiful, funny, feisty, smart, caring, courageous 7-year-old to cancer. As many of you know, I have had my personal battle with cancer and currently, my younger brother is facing his - unless you have been through your own, it is hard to imagine the havoc that chemotherapy, radiation, and medications wreak on your body, not to mention your spirit when you are feeling sick and definitely not looking like anything familiar to your pre-cancer self - As a grown-up, there are certain expectations of how I should be weathering my cancer journey - after all, I have lived a life, even if I am not ready to say good-bye, but a child - that is an entirely different story; one in which they are just beginning their life's journey, only to be shortchanged or at best, sidetracked for a period-of-time where we bear witness to their suffering through various cancer treatments - it doesn't get much worse… Isabella Joanne Santos had a rare form of cancer, neuroblastoma, at age 2. She endured chemotherapy, surgery, radiation, antibodies, numerous ups & downs, meaning multiple relapses for 5 years until she passed away at age 7; while many of us were reading our children bedtime stories…Isabella and her family were waging a war. What was so spectacular about Isabella was that she was truly a rare gift to her family and to those who were lucky enough to meet her; the word rare in this context means an unusual, talented, gifted, special little girl, and yet, in the cancer world, rare means 700 children are affected each year. It means children, usually under the age of 5, are diagnosed with a form of cancer.  It means scary statistics about survival rates and relapses. In the case of the latter instance, rare is not one of the words you ever want to hear. Established in 2007, The Isabella Santos Foundation (ISF) is dedicated to eradicating pediatric cancer's devastating impact while honoring the legacy of Isabella Santos, her courageous fight against neuroblastoma. Collaborating with medical institutions, ISF drives innovative research to pioneer new treatments and enhance young cancer patients' lives. Over-the-course of seventeen years, ISF has provided over $7 million in funding toward expanding the scope of research and treatment and supporting families dealing with cancer in a variety of ways. It was Isabella's dream to Beat Cancer, Grow Hair, and Live Her Dreams. Although research and advanced treatments didn't come in time for her dreams to come true, Isabella's legacy will give other kids a fighting chance against rare childhood cancers. Kevin Mcshan is definitely one of those people. At age 9 he was told he would never walk without assistance and had to undergo an operation due to him being born with spastic cerebral palsy which is where your muscles basically get super tight and restrict movement. After being inspired by and early mentor who told him “The only limitations you will have in this life are the ones you put on yourself”, Kevin got busy making the most out of his life. He is very much into health and exercise and has done so well that now he is a paid professional speaker and also hosts his own podcast called “Lets Have This Conversation”.
