Hey there! We are back with another hilarious episode, this time without Uma : ( Thanks to Devyani honing her sound editing skills, you shall be exposed to a lot (A LOT) of sound FX - only a teeny tiny bit overkill. We start off commenting on Uma's absence, how forgetful we are and Mr. Clean, who is apparently not really a fictional character, but a mascot of a brand. Here's the Wikipedia page Ardra promised. Snigdha, the amateur daughter (yeah...) and doctor (BTW, she's 14, which qualifies as very cruel on this scale by Tim Urban) explains Ardra's devastating chronic illness - "DOCOR", the symptoms and side effects of which can be heard throughout the episode. Ardra is clearly suffering and enduring agonizing affliction. Devyani then presents, as usual, some facts you may or may not know, (and may or may not enjoy

...Hi. We're alive. This episode is really really late, like crazy late, and we apologize. It sounds like an excuse to say that the universe was conspiring against us, but that's what the evidence says. Multiple computer malfunctions, school, schoolwork, exams, a *parental ban on anything podcast-related*, some really bad days... what would you think? Life just really got in the way for this one, even if you don't believe it was orchestrated by a higher power. Moving on. Legs and feet/ Nothing can beat/ And I always eat/ Noodles. OR Legs and feet/ Nothing can beat/ And I always eat/ Noodles and meat... balls. Which do you think is better? This was a collaborative effort between us for the poem because yk not much fine literature about legs and feet - which were the topic of the week. After a normal amount of rambling in the introduction, a soon-to-be-famous song adaptation, and some more rambling for good measure, we come to the poem. We were divided over the final version, and got distracted before we could finalise. At some point after that, we explained a minor mishap in the episode page (minor-er than going on an unplanned hiatus). Devyani initiated a jokes-and-facts-segment (unofficial), got upset at being talked over and interrupted, and announced she was going to boycott the podcast. (You'll have to listen to know how that turned out.) Oh and... hi, Feng Shui. Please let us know you exist because we don't trust Snigdha. Sorry for probably horribly misspelling your name. The factoff question's answers were unexpectedly entertaining. Especially if you are familiar with unit conversions. The factoffs were also outstanding, at least if you trust the factoffers's confidence in their own facts. Medicine, atmospheric refraction, and small pieces of coloured plastic that could apparently make the most populous country in the world. The points distribution was a bit different this time round (as in, there were two kinds of points allotted by two different methods). This caused a bit of discord, but it all worked out (everyone's still alive with all limbs attached). We are back with another weird and crazy episode, whose topic was a surprise uptil the very point when the poem of the week was recited (8:53). We sang a couple songs, rambled about whether watermelons are cute, toilets qualify as bottles and penguins are aggressive and did some of our random comedy. But most importantly, we answered questions that people have asked on the internet: Should you eat cake with a fork or a spoon? (9:43) What are the chances of pizza killing you? (11:41) When you are jetlagged, do you also get hungry at unusual times? (12:21) Is caramel an invention or a discovery? (18:00) How much Nutella is too much Nutella? (No, the topic isn't food.) (19:23) What's your favorite dessert and what's your favorite desert? (Okay, maybe we are a little inclined towards food.) (21:00) What happens to mosquitoes in a bottle that has been farted in? (26:08) What is the opposite of a bridge? (28:27) Which one of us can run fastest (30:42) and farthest (30:54) ? (Though this question was posed by the person who can run fastest and farthest.) I don't know what to be happier about for this episode, that we talked about potatoes, or that we actually finally got to meet in person. This is the first time we've all met since the inception of this podcast, more than three months ago. After a slightly riotous intro, an absolutely stunning performance with an age-old classic (original), and a long-awaited haiku that definitely fit all the traditional requirements, we had some supposedly important announcements, which, like 50% of all good announcements, put the recipients to sleep. Then, Ardra treated us to a poem about the history of potatoes (I'm sure you know the basics, but hearing it again as a poem never hurt). Next, Snigdha, aided by the others, gave a brief and very possibly incomplete overview of the cultural significance of potatoes (and Uma nerded out about the etymology of Axomamma). Also, CW: mild swearing, lots and lots of bad jokes. And puns. So, so many puns. We also spent thirty seconds a time on like fifty different topics, but I'd rather let you find those for yourself. After that came the Factoff! I imagine you know what that is, and if you don't there's a longish explanation in the episode. Snigdha's chosen question was accidentally prepped for by Devyani, so she chose the order. Uma explained the Potato Paradox, Ardra explained just how mind-bogglingly far the moon is (space potato), and Devyani talked about the Demonic Cat Problem, along with two side facts that were less genocidal and more musical in nature. Then we had a total count of our Flubber points so far. The winner after 10 episodes was (cue the drumroll) - Someone, you'll have to listen to find out who. We're back! This week, due to her... *ahem* ... busy schedule, Devyani forgets to choose a topic, but all is well, because ARDRA IS HERE TO SAVE THE DAY!!! (Well, I may be biased, because my name just so happens to be Ardra's name backwards. Guess who I am!) Yet, Devyani impresses her co-hosts with a "Last Minute Poem", one of our many non-existent sponsors. The topic of the game is not a topic after all, it's a game, aptly christened "Wikidiving" by Snigdha, where we delve into the depths of the internet. The games begin (5:24)! We encounter the "plage", another non-existent sponsor, and the crows, our new co-hosts and, you guessed it, yet another non-existent sponsor. In the Fact-Off (18:16), Snigdha (who claims to have a lovely relationship with farm animals, though others agree that this bond is merely theoretical), Uma (who makes Devyani jealous of a cow) and Ardra (who fails to get to the actual point of the fact until much later) , all coincidentally bring animal facts, though we fail to notice this link. We then remain unsuccessful to launch into the outro till very late (48:04) as Ardra keeps interrupting Devyani with non-existent sponsors (45:20), which also include: Jealous of a Cow. Huzzah! WE DID IT! WE KEPT IT UNDER 1 HOUR! Ok, I need to calm down. Ever asked yourself, "Why even get out of bed?" I bet you have. Well, we, the Potatoes (listen to find out why I call us that), have answers that lie on a wide spectrum, ranging from so philosophical that awkward silences were necessary to absorb them to.. umm.. how should I put it ..downright nuts. We also have answers from some of our friends and family members, who have their own take on the question. Hopefully, we don't discourage you to get out of bed. Unfortunately we soon tangent off to personal stuff, with several inside jokes that are simply inappropriate to publish publically on a podcast (Sorry for that. I recently learned alliteration in English.). Despite its funniness, it had to be cut out. This podcast is brought to you by (not really, the podcast is too nuts to be sponsored): Farts in a bag. Brought straight from China. Dentists from the eighteenth century (or so) who wanted to prank their patients (at least, according to Ardra, whose dentist will hopefully not mess up her teeth in the unlikely event that he listens to the In Common podcast) Potatoes! They happen to be multiple things, but I can't write them here, or I'll spoil the episode. Uma! The entrepreneur of the In Common podcast, who believes we should start a company. Here we are again. I'm half inclined to give up and accept that our episodes will always be long. But then I think of you, our listeners, and… I'm still inclined to give up. But never fear, we will keep trying our best to shut up on time. After a large-ish amount of philosophy sprang out of our taglines, our main topic of conversation was anything that comes out of a tube, which is a weird, broad and surprisingly controversial subject. Turns out, we are tubes, and so are doughnuts. Therefore, we are doughnuts. Obviously, the next logical step is to mix up and debate the etymology of doughnuts. They originally came from looking like nuts made of dough. Then people started cutting out the middle so it could bake all through. The oil cakes thing is related, but it's a long story. If you're interested, you can read up on it. After this, Snigdha regales us with stories of the brave but unhygienic doctors of old (we probably don't have to say this, but DO NOT imitate them, they knew less than your toddler relative). Then we play - drumroll, please - Tubology! You can qualify as a professional Tubologist simply by playing this game, though instead of a degree you'll have to carry a copy of this podcast at all times. After the game (where everybody and their cat gets a little too excited), we move on to the FACT OFF. You know the drill. This week's fact off was less about hard facts and more about unbelievable stories. The Phantom of Heilbronn, the mayor of Cormorand, and accidental almost-vivisepulture. Welcome to another episode! Yes, yes, it's a lot longer than planned - again - and we apologize. Some people just can't stop chattering once they start, amirite? But seriously, we had a really cool topic this week. Dreams are a fascinating part of our lives and are way weirder than they get credit for. We talk about some of the science behind weird and non-weird dreams (and Snigdha has some trouble with brain-ial anatomy), Devyani comes out to us about her troubled history with potatoes, and some... odd... stories come to pass with her attempts to change the subject. Have you ever been a part of an impromptu family-wide midnight prank aimed towards making a toddler believe she's haunted by the unnamed sister of ragamuffins Chaggu and Maggu? ...Yeah. Then Snigdha announces a questionnaire (believe it or not, she gave us individual study material a couple hours in advance) about dreams and the generally accepted significance of certain motifs in them. Some heated words afterwards lead to Snigdha accepting the title of a cranky old lady, after which Ardra and Devyani show off their voices (and stop soon, thankfully). Then the fact-off comes on, bringing facts to light about W's in eyes, the insane extremeness of lightning, and a really cool way of dining out while socially distancing. And about translations, facters, and apologizers. (You can visit Börd for En's website here.) Then we have some big announcements - first, we are giving you a chance to be officially recognized on the podcast! If you are feeling shy, we won't bite. I promise. We are just looking for an answer to this - What in the world is a Potato? Feel free to get philosophical. You can also tell us about any weird dreams you've had (preferably not 18+ though) Lastly, we lay to rest the ashes of one of our podcast segments.
