Documenting my side hustle turning trash into cash. I buy abandoned storage lockers and resell the contents as a side gig. Join weekly for trials, tribulations, successes and failures.
Follow as I dig through 2 abandoned storage lockers and hunt for treasure. It has been a while since I bought new lockers! I wasn't sure if these would be worth the money. I even had to wait more than an hour just to pay. In the end they did not disappoint!
I was away for a week and unfortunately had to set my sales channels to vacation mode. This sale was a nice way to get back into it! Just before my other work commitments I was able to attend the The Reseller Rally in Cincinnati, Who knew there were so many reselling youtubers. Now I have my hands full watching all these channels from some cool people. Maybe I'll make some videos moving forward for a bit more than personal accountability.
I never would have expected to encounter this issue. The name and address on this order were a bit too familiar. What would you do?
This week I set a personal record for flipping a mug from a thrift store. I never would have guessed that a mug could sell for so much money. I also cover about a week's worth of what has sold on my ebay store.
I have hundreds of items that still need to be listed. So what do I do? Head to a thrift store of course! I am still doing decent at listing, despite the distractions and other things keeping me busy. I will be dumping some old card videos in the coming weeks as well as recording a new one or two on some Space Jam cards. Lastly, I am still working on finishing the sort for the Etsy store buyout. That video is coming as well.
Sales have been sluggish over the past week or two. There is a very clear reason why this happened and it is time to fix it!
Recap of what sold as I pack everything up to ship out. 25 orders going out is a personal record. On top of that I had another 12 orders that I was waiting for payment.
Real time results of my 45 auctions that all started at 99 cents each.
In the spirit of spring cleaning I listed everything for a dollar. Experimenting with listing a bunch of items I have been sitting on and avoiding listing. Testing out 99 cent auctions to see how different items and categories fare. 45 auctions close on the night of April 11th. Stay tuned for results.
Checking in this week showing what sold this week. This was my best week of sales in several years mostly thanks to the most recent locker I picked up!
I bought two storage lockers this week and found some surprising contents. One was a "Manager's Special" which I wasn't completely certain of the circumstances to earn that title. After looking into it I explain it. Definitely will be the first and last time I do this.
This week I bought 3 abandoned storage lockers. Two of them were packed floor to ceiling with black trash bags. I walk through the process from start to finish.
Another week, another storage locker. Small 5x5 unit that was trashed. I surprisingly undervalued one type of item. This week the trash was indeed treasure.
As an Ebay seller what do you do when your package is lost or significantly delayed? My answer is really quite simple.
Another week another locker. Paid quite a bit for a small locker this week. Was it regrettable...? Maybe
I explain how I track return on investment in my reselling. I use a 30 day rule. Also, an update on the Funk CD Ebay Auction that I relisted after the winning $600 bidder didn't pay.
With postal delays recently there can be a higher risk of significant loss from refunds. Customer service only goes so far. I discuss the Amazon A to Z guarantee that protects both buyer and third party sellers. No new storage locker purchases this week. Plenty of updates...and finally selling some sports cards!
Last weeks auctions closed and there were some surprises both good and bad. I break down the final sale prices for the bulk lots of DVDs, CDs and Hotwheels that were up for auction and the one that didn't go as planned.
A follow up to last week's flat tire incident. The situation ended more favorably than I could have anticipated... and that's not even counting what was found in the 3rd locker I went back for the next morning. Also I review my personal method of how to determine whether I list an item as Buy It Now or as an Auction on Ebay. With 7 auctions ending on Saturday I am excited for the outcomes.
I wasn't set on a topic this week until this happened today... I bought 3 lockers at the same facility today. Prices were cheap and all seemed smooth until a wrench (screw) was thrown into my plans. Lots of valuable lessons. Great day nonetheless! Part 1 of 2. I'll follow up next week on how much it actually cost me.
Quick video this week. Reflected on what got me into resale. I decided to get back to basics and went to the thrift store to see if I "still have it". Also FINALLY sold an item I picked up at a yard sale months ago. Was it worth holding onto for so long?
