If you need to hire one person, hire a team of people, or transform your business through Talent or Technical Services, Insight Global's team of 30,000 people around the world has the hustle and grit to deliver. My Guest: Clark Lea is the head football coach at Vanderbilt University. He spent 14 years as an assistant coach, including three as defensive coordinator at Notre Dame, before returning to his alma mater in 2021 to inherit a program that had gone winless the year before. He's now the back-to-back SEC Coach of the Year and the architect of one of the great turnarounds in college football history. We recorded this conversation live at our 2026 Learning Leader Growth Summit in Nashville, surrounded by members of the Learning Leader Circle. Key Learnings Clark inherited a Vanderbilt program that went winless the year before. He says he probably screwed up 50% of his first year. The game is how quickly you can pivot. Losing is a powerful teacher. It cleanses and purifies you in ways you don't want but need. You can blame other people, sink into self-pity, or ask: "What am I meant to be learning right now?" Fast-forward 15 years. Look at this moment from a future place of breakthrough. What did you do now that allowed change to occur? "What do I wanna be proud of in the attempt?" Letting go of expected outcomes is what allows you to refine and simplify the way you see the world. Enter the building unguarded. The clearer you are about who you are and what you want, the more obvious it becomes who fits and who doesn't. Different ball, same problems. Clark spends time learning from the Milwaukee Brewers, the Baltimore Ravens, and others. Different industry, same human challenges. Sometimes the different ball is the gift, because you walk in without preconceptions. Knowledge is limiting. Questions illuminate. Once you know something, you stop pursuing it. The questions you ask are the first constraints you put on knowledge. Get past the touchy-feely. Ask: "Tell me what's screwed up here." Problems are always there. Your job is to be willing to look for them. Check the cabinets. Living in a 700-square-foot LA apartment with his wife, Clark would open the cabinets and find them swarming with roaches. The building was fumigated. Two months later, they were back. You can move the pots out and stop checking, or you can keep opening the cabinets. Leaders keep opening the cabinets. Tell people what TO do, not what NOT to do. Rick Neuheisel's lesson. Stop coaching against the bad thing. Manifest what you want to have happen. Hire bunker guys, not logo people. Logos are easy to change. Hire people who'll fight for you in the bunker when it's hard. The Michigan Reset. Before his first game as Notre Dame defensive coordinator, Clark told the team's mental performance coach: "We're gonna be down 50 to nothing at halftime. BK's gonna fire me on the spot. Jerome Bettis and Rocket Ismail will be screaming at me in the tunnel." She asked, "Why don't you trust your players? You think this is all about you?" Have more captains. Clark sits in a room each summer with around 25 players he identifies as leaders. If the people at the leadership table are good, the locker room will be good. The team votes. He draws the line wherever the vote naturally falls. When you try to go opposite of what you're trying to avoid, you eventually become it. Clark spent his first years at Vanderbilt rejecting the program's past. Going opposite. Then he realized it was just attaching his identity to the very thing he was trying to escape. Now he plots toward the vision instead. What got you here won't keep you here. As Clark has grown, the program has grown. Once he understood that, he could sit with a player and listen first, instead of looking to them for affirmation. The mission is winning. Clark scrapped a beautiful, eloquent, unclear mission statement and replaced it with three words. Now every dollar spent, every coach hired, and every player retained is measured against the same lens. Well-better-learned. Vanderbilt's after-action review for every game and every process. What did we do well? What do we need to do better? What did we learn? On Alabama week, Clark's team had the best practice he's ever been a part of. His job each week isn't to tell the team the challenges. It's to give them the plan to win. At halftime against the number one team in the country, he kneeled the team down and said, "It's on a platter for you. Go take it." They beat Alabama. Stewarding 17-to-22-year-olds means helping them decouple their worth from outcomes. Clark cries in front of his team. His kids are around. His wife is there. His dad is at every practice. The players see a man. A human. A son. "An asshole in a Nike Tech Fit is still an asshole." In the NIL era, Clark fights to keep the locker room from splitting into a million-dollar club, a $500K club, a $30K club, and a $0 club. What you drive doesn't make a man. NIL value doesn't make a man. The grounding is the work. Reflection Questions What are you holding too tightly right now? Whose job are you doing because you don't trust them to do it themselves? Which cabinet have you stopped checking because you're tired of finding the same problem? Fast-forward 15 years. Looking back at this moment from a place of breakthrough, what are you meant to be learning right now that you've been avoiding? Many candidates forget to sanity-check their calculations in a case. That is a bad idea. Without a sanity-check there is no way to meaningfully assess the accuracy of your answer. More important, how you perform the sanity check is the key. All sanity-checks must involve the reduction of the answer to a number that you can intuitively compare to your own experiences. Unless you do this, you can never defend your answer. Zach sits down with Eli, a therapist, podcast host, and author, and his wife Ariella, a registered dietitian, for an honest look at what it actually takes to build a good marriage, not the sanitized version you'd expect from someone with a therapy practice and a book on relationships, but the real one. Seven weeks from welcoming their third child, living in Las Vegas with two kids already in tow, this couple brings both credentials and candor to a conversation about the daily, unglamorous work of staying close. The conversation covers the full terrain: how they define a good day versus a bad one, the specific argument that sent Ariella to two books in one week, the way Eli's ADHD reshapes how they communicate and how Ariella has had to rewire her instinct to simply fix or suppress conflict, and what they have learned after 11 years of marriage and counting. Eli is refreshingly unguarded about the fact that knowing everything about relationships professionally does not mean you execute perfectly at home. Ariella matches that candor, walking through her peacemaker wiring, her inherited anxiety around conflict, and the work she has had to do to give Eli the space to fully express himself instead of rushing toward resolution. What comes through most clearly is that the couple treats their marriage as a system they are actively tending, not a fixed state they arrived at. The "tank check," the "flash mode" codeword, the end-of-argument debrief, the habit of asking what kind of conversation this is before jumping in: none of this happened by accident. It came from arguments, mess-ups, therapy, books, and a genuine willingness to keep being curious about each other even when things get hard.Key TakeawaysKnowing the theory does not guarantee you live it. Even a therapist has bad days, snaps at his wife, and has to walk it back.Checking in on each other's "tank" before making requests can short-circuit a lot of unnecessary conflict."Don't go to bed angry" is not universal wisdom. Sometimes sleeping on it is the smarter move.ADHD in a marriage is not a dealbreaker. It requires over-communication, agreed-upon signals, and a partner who stays curious rather than just compensating. The "matching principle": knowing whether a conversation is logistical, emotional, or relational before jumping in prevents a lot of crossed wires.Repair matters more than a clean fight. What you do at the end of the argument, the debrief, the "what's our takeaway," is where growth actually lives.Accountability does not mean your partner gets to stay heated indefinitely. Both people have a job: one to express fully, one to stay present without shutting it down early.Keeping the effort you put in while dating, the check-ins, the curiosity, the showing up, does not stop being necessary just because the relationship became official.Guest InfoEli Weinstein, LCSW is a licensed clinical social worker, therapist in private practice, and host of "The Dude Therapist" podcast. Marine Corps veteran Alex D'Hue served from 2002 to 2008 and was assigned to Third ANGLICO, where he worked in small fire control teams providing air support while attached to other units. In this episode of Urban Valor, Alex shares the story of his difficult childhood, growing up between America and Belgium, surviving an abusive household, and eventually joining the Marine Corps after 9/11.Alex opens up to Urban Valor about the chaos of Marine Corps boot camp, the moments that nearly broke him, and how getting assigned to Third ANGLICO changed the direction of his military career. He later deployed to Iraq, where his team supported missions outside the wire, worked alongside Iraqi forces and U.S. units, and experienced the reality of combat in a way he never forgot. One of the most intense moments of Alex's deployment happened during a mission when his best friend Jackson took a sniper round to the helmet. Alex describes hearing “sniper fire,” seeing Jackson on the ground, dragging him back under cover, checking for blood, and realizing the helmet had stopped the round from going through. He also reflects on how the team's movement afterward may have saved his own life.

Checking in on the Toronto Blue Jays, Brenden Escott is joined by Brayden Ewasko from Locked On Blue Jays to take stock of Toronto's season more than 70 games in and debate whether this club has done enough to establish itself as a legitimate World Series contender. We break down a rough outing from Kevin Gausman in Chicago, examine what's behind Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s lack of home-run power despite continued offensive production and discuss whether there's any cause for concern. Plus, we look at the emergence of rookie catcher Brandon Valenzuela, the tremendous impact of offseason addition Kazuma Okamoto and the transformation of Louis Varland into the club's most trusted bullpen arm. We also evaluate the job John Schneider has done managing a roster that's continued to develop contributors throughout the lineup as the Jays push toward the second half of the season. We get into why he feels that way and talking so much more as Chan, Fred and Ryan start the convo fired up about a legendary summer of sports heating up— with underdogs becoming icons, Knicks championship unifying the city that doesn't sleep, and the World Cup action kicking off being everything it's promised to be! Checking out FIFA favorite on the pitch to the growing conversation around Victor Wembanyama, respect among competitors, and where sportsmanship fits in today's game. The conversation takes a turn as the guys discuss the things we struggle to tell our families and the people closest to us, the emotions we carry in silence, and why vulnerability remains one of the hardest challenges for men. The guys reflect on the passing of their fellow teammate and friend Aldon Smith, the pressures athletes face long after the cameras stop rolling, and why mental health conversations need to move beyond headlines and hashtags. And as we head into the weekend of Dad's, Ryan, Channing, and Fred chat fatherhood, family, and the realities of being the men their kids count on. Channing gets personal about his father's impact on his life and the funny memories they made together in his final days. Republicans are now arguing that their aggressive mid-decade redistricting campaign could preserve their House majority even in an environment where history is usually not on their side. According to a new memo from the National Republican Congressional Committee, newly redrawn maps have reduced the number of competitive districts and forced Democrats to compete in more Republican-leaning territory. Democrats dismiss that analysis, arguing that strong special election results and voter dissatisfaction with President Trump still favor a House takeover. My gut is still that Democrats will take the House. I do think it's going to be closer than people think, if just because we're in an intensely polarized country.Republicans are still looking for the why. That's what they haven't found yet. Why am I excited? Historically, at least in the Trump administration, it has been things like immigration. But you can't run the next election on the thing you solved in the last election. I know there are a lot of frustrated conservatives who say we should be talking about the fact that we closed the border. What have you done for me lately? That is the refrain from voters. Republicans are going to gin up the culture war, and they're going to point at Democrats and say they've learned none of their lessons. Turning the keys back over to them is not going to get you anything. It's going to get you more impeachments, more nonsense, and less of what you want. Democrats, meanwhile, will say we have an out-of-control oligarch president and we need some kind of emergency brake, so give us back control of the House.Politics Politics Politics is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. With gas prices continuing to fall, it's not crazy to think Republicans could find some footing. The national average fell below four dollars, according to AAA. A month ago it was around $4.50. We are looking at a collapsing gas price. We have been told throughout the history of commodities that gas shoots up like a rocket and falls like a feather. We are seeing it fall pretty quickly. If the price of a barrel returns to the levels we saw before the war, now that the memorandum of understanding has been signed and there is free flow of oil through the Strait of Hormuz, you're going to see lower gas prices. That's usually what people rely on, and it's also the hedge against inflation.Cheap gas had always been the Trump administration's hedge against tariff inflation. The argument was that while you might pay more on imports, gas would remain extraordinarily low. Obviously that promise was broken with the Iran war. Now it seems that we are at least in some phase of calm and negotiation, a controversial one. My point of view on any American activity in the Middle East—some may even say adventure in the Middle East—is that it almost always ends with America having to tell Israel no. Israel is usually very excited about having us in the region because, in general, we agree with Israel on most everything that happens in the Middle East. But they will always want us to do more, and eventually we usually have to tell them we are not going to do everything they want. That is just the way I understand the region. Is this memorandum of understanding wise? I read the text that was released yesterday. It's a pretty big give to allow Iran to sell oil. It's going to help the gas price, but it is a pretty big give. The carrots we are offering are big and juicy, but they are not promised up front. Everything is contingent on what happens from here. For Republicans, the best-case scenario is relative economic calm and Donald Trump being seen as a game-changing president that people might not always agree with but who is moving things forward. If we're talking about jobs numbers and things that are forward-facing, Republicans are probably winning the argument. If we're talking about side issues and distractions, Democrats are winning the argument. I still think it's going to be very, very, very hard for Republicans to keep the House. But again, this is a very polarized country, and the biggest thing Republicans need is a reason to get their people excited.Chapters00:00:00 - Intro00:01:57 - Republicans and the House00:12:19 - Obama00:15:51 - Thomas Kean Jr.00:19:36 - Iran00:24:43 - Kirk Bado on Primaries01:11:10 - Wrap-up This is a public episode. As water scarcity intensifies across the Colorado River Basin, public attention has increasingly focused on data centers, AI, and the growing demand for resources in the Sun Belt. But are these technologies really driving the region's water challenges—or is the story more complicated? In this episode of Ten Across Conversations, host Duke Reiter speaks with water policy expert Sarah Porter about the realities behind water use in the American West. Porter explains why shortages on the Colorado River are rooted as much in decades of over-allocation and management decisions as in climate change, and why common assumptions about population growth, urban development, and industrial water consumption often miss the mark. The conversation explores the rise of data centers, the public concerns surrounding their water and energy demands, and the challenges communities face in balancing economic development with long-term resilience. Porter also offers a candid assessment of Arizona's water future, the difficult choices ahead, and why protecting groundwater, improving efficiency, and developing new water supplies will be critical for sustaining growth in an increasingly arid region.A thoughtful and timely discussion about water, technology, public perception, and the decisions that will shape the future of the Ten Across geography. When your husband says he needs rest, it can sound like one more excuse to check out. Here's how to tell real rest from another escape, without becoming the person who has to police him. If he's disappeared into screens, the game, or his phone before and called it rest, your guard goes up. That's fair. This video is about the difference between rest that actually restores him and avoidance dressed up as rest, and why the difference shows up in how he comes back to you, not in what he did while he was gone. A man who never rests stays agitated, reactive, and on edge, and all of that lands on you and the family. Real rest brings him back more present and easier to be around. Numbing-out sends him back more anxious and quicker to snap at something small. That return is your signal. You don't have to inspect him or quiz him about what he did. You watch how he shows up afterward. This one runs against instinct. Everything in you may say he should be doing more recovery work, more repair, more effort. But a man who never stops, who feels like he's always earning his place, stays stuck in busyness and gets harder to live with. Sometimes the recovery work itself becomes the new escape. Rest is how he refills the tank. A man with nothing left to give you needs it. Letting him take fifteen minutes outside isn't letting him off the hook. We also cover boundaries: rest with a time limit you both agree on, not one more way for him to disappear. And how, over time, rest stops being an activity and becomes a calmer way he carries himself, in traffic, under stress, at home, and when you ask him hard questions. If you're married to a man in recovery and you want him to have this, send him to StormReadyMen.com to take the assessment. It's built for him. On this Salcedo Storm Podcast:Elon Musk tells X users that they are the media now. One of the most influential members of the new media, with 687,000 followers, is Alexander Muse, @Amuse on X. His posts are an elegant and much needed counter-weight to the,” narrative over news,” left-wing press.
You check their phone. Their location. Their social media. Their messages. Their tone of voice. The time they arrived home. The way they answered a question. The hesitation before they replied. And even when you find nothing, the urge eventually comes back. So why do you keep checking? In this episode of After the Affair, Luke explores one of the most common but misunderstood behaviours following betrayal: the compulsion to monitor, investigate, and search for reassurance. At first glance, checking appears logical. After all, you were lied to. You were blindsided. The person you trusted broke that trust. Of course your brain wants to make sure it never happens again. But what if checking isn't actually creating safety? What if it's doing something else entirely? Luke explores the hidden relationship between checking and uncertainty, why the nervous system becomes trapped in threat detection mode after betrayal, and why the relief checking provides is often temporary rather than transformative. Most importantly, this episode explores the deeper question beneath the behaviour itself: What are you hoping checking will eventually give you? Because understanding the answer to that question may reveal far more about your healing than any phone, message, location history, or social media account ever could. In This Episode You'll Learn: Why checking becomes such a powerful habit after betrayal The difference between safety and uncertainty reduction What your nervous system is trying to achieve when it urges you to check Why finding "nothing" often doesn't make you feel better The hidden emotional cost of constant monitoring How checking can unintentionally reinforce anxiety Why trust and certainty are not the same thing The difference between investigation and anxiety management What checking may be preventing you from focusing on How self-trust becomes an essential part of recovery A Powerful Question From This Episode "What are you hoping checking will eventually give you?" Not what you're looking for. Not what you might find. Not who you're checking. What are you hoping it will give you? Safety? Certainty? Control? Relief? Reassurance? Because once you understand the need beneath the behaviour, you can begin addressing the real problem rather than managing the symptom. Key Takeaways ✅ Checking is a normal response to betrayal. ✅ Your nervous system is trying to prevent you from being blindsided again. ✅ Checking provides temporary relief, not lasting safety. ✅ The brain often mistakes uncertainty reduction for security. ✅ Finding nothing rarely resolves the deeper fear. ✅ Hypervigilance can become exhausting emotionally and physically. ✅ Trust cannot be rebuilt through monitoring alone. ✅ The urge to check does not automatically mean something is wrong. ✅ Recovery involves learning to tolerate uncertainty without immediately acting on it. ✅ The ultimate goal is not trusting them blindly, it is rebuilding trust in yourself. Why This Episode Matters Many betrayed partners spend months, or even years, trapped in a cycle of checking. Checking feels responsible. Checking feels protective. Checking feels like you're doing something. But over time, it can become a prison. Not because you're weak. Not because you're obsessive. But because your nervous system learned a painful lesson and is desperately trying to keep you safe. This episode explores why checking is often an attempt to manage anxiety rather than gather information, and why genuine recovery requires something deeper than monitoring another person's behaviour. Because eventually the question stops being: "Can I trust them?" And becomes: "Can I trust myself?" Resources & Support If you're navigating the aftermath of infidelity and looking for support, guidance, and practical tools to help you move forward, Luke offers both private coaching and community support.
Checking the boxes on what a wrestling superstar in the 80's and 90's had to capture the imagination of fans around the world, British import Davey Boy Smith is still celebrated as one of the greats. While never a World Champion, Smith's popularity and intangible charisma shone through in an era where while fitting the mold as far as looks go, Smith could connect with fans in a way that seemed effortless. This week, Stefan Bennett and Mike McGuire take a look at some of the points of Davey's career, leading up to his untimely passing. Hear two different perspectives - one from North America, and one from Smith's home of the UK - and what he meant to each of our hosts, and how he resonated with fans globally.

Recent months had been wearing me down as I solo-parented, homeschooled our four kids, and kept up with the everyday life and needs of our home and family. Exhausted and bone weary, I headed out for vacation with my two oldest kids and my mom. I wanted a great vacation, filled with tasty BBQ and ice cream, sunshine, and a day at the beach full of rest and relaxation. Living in Wisconsin, we cherish our summers. We live for warm days where we can be outside, enjoying our beautiful state. The shores of Lake Michigan are full of prairie grass and dairy cows, calming waves, and clean beaches to be enjoyed. Upon arrival, we went directly to the bakery. My mom and I had been daydreaming over flaky, fruit-filled pastries. To our horror, as we walked into the shop, we were greeted with an empty pastry case. They were sold out. Dejected, I grabbed the last loaf of sourdough bread, paid, and left. Would this be how my whole vacation would go? We'd driven four hours, and all I wanted was a great getaway. The next day, we sat and contentedly munched sourdough fruit danishes. (This time we got up early to be sure they didn't sell out.) Checking the weather, we found rain headed our way. "My beach day," I cried inwardly. Consulting the radar, we assessed and made a plan. We could drive an hour in the rain, then get there, swim, and head back in the rain. I prayed we'd get our beach time even with the rain. I was desperate. Arriving at the small town on Lake Michigan, we looked at the sky. "Oh no! We have maybe 30 minutes," my mom reported. We were supposed to have a longer break in the rain, but the sky was darkening before us. We walked out to the old lighthouse, pausing to admire the view. The driftwood peppering the shorelines, the yellow sand, and deep blue waves rolling to their own beat. Yes, my heart needed the wide open spaces that came from being by the vast lake. Finding the swimming beach, we marched to the water. To our horror, we found gray sludge slopping up out of the waves. What!? Rain clouds came closer as we raced to the next beach. Drops started falling as we once again marched toward the water. My son barely reached the sludgy lake before the rain started falling harder and faster. Instead of taking a dip in the lake, he and my 64-year-old mother started running for the car. Defeated, I trailed after. Worst vacation ever. I texted my mother-in-law– "I need a vacation do-over." All I wanted was a great vacation, rest for my weary soul, and relaxation. What I'd gotten wasn't that at all. I drove us back to the house and went for a walk after the rain stopped, talking with God. The dark blue stormy sky is a vibrant backdrop to the cornfield and wildflowers in the ditches. As I walked and talked, I expressed my sadness about my horrible vacation. I pondered why, even though I saw the vast lake and had time relaxing, I still felt weary to my bones. I didn't get an immediate answer. I had to sit with it–my discontentment. During the long drive home, I continued to mull over thoughts. My realization came in the silence of sleeping kids and a phone-scrolling mom. My weariness wouldn't be fixed by a weekend away. It would be better if I habitually rested and sought God. My expectation was that a great summer vacation would fix the fatigue I'd been feeling; instead, I had disappointment and frustration. However, out of the experience, truth struck me. Yes, vacations are great, and time in God's creation is so beneficial, but it doesn't make up for the lack of physical or mental rest. More importantly, even a good vacation doesn't fill your soul the way that time with Jesus does. In Luke 5:16, Jesus shows us an example of going away from the crowds to spend time with his Father, God. The more I look at my summer routine, the more I recognize my lack of this personal time dwelling with Jesus. As you enter the summer months, I encourage you to plan times to rest your body and soul. Make time in your schedule to rest. You don't have to take a vacation or trip in order to make the downtime; simply plan for it. Be intentional with your Summer plans. Leave space for down days when you can relax. Enjoy quality time with others who encourage you to grow in your relationship with Christ.
