What do Ponzi schemes, emotional spending, and IKEA shopping trips have in common? More than you think. In this Talkin' Money Unfiltered conversation, I sit down with financial therapist Rachel Duncan to explore the wild history of Charles Ponzi, why scams like Bernie Madoff's still happen today, and how “easy money” myths lure even the savviest investors. We also get personal about the emotional side of money—FOMO spending, consumerism as a hobby, and why it feels so intimate (and brave) to finally talk about money with friends. You'll walk away learning: Why Ponzi schemes are built on trust, community ties, and the promise of high returns Red flags to watch for when evaluating an investment opportunity How FOMO spending silently taxes your wallet and relationships Why patience—not quick wins—is the real path to financial security How talking openly about money can actually deepen friendships and relieve financial shame Listen to the podcasts we talked about: Easy Money: The Charles Ponzi Story Debt Heads Whether you've ever wondered how smart people get caught in scams, or you just want to feel less alone about your own money choices, this episode is a must-listen. Rewind to 2014, when the tech world was sort of dancing around the promise of the “digital future.”  The term “digital transformation” was just beginning to gain traction, and “cloud computing” had become the darling of boardroom conversations, though many enterprises were still hesitant to fully embrace it. At the time, if you were one of the rare leaders who could see past the noise and around corners, and understood that data, cloud, and AI would become the backbone of enterprise reinvention, you would be on track to be one of the fastest-growing tech service providers in the ecosystem. That, at least, is the case for our next guest on the Reboot Chronicles Show, Raj Mamodia. Raj is the Founder and CEO of Brillio, a tech service provider that partners with Global 1000 corporations to reboot themselves for growth and success in our crazy digital age. While others chased hype cycles and easy exits, Raj built a company grounded in execution, innovation, and long-term value creation. Today, Brillio is on a trajectory toward becoming a multi-billion-dollar market leader in digital services. Listen in as Raj unpacks how he navigated the early fog of digital transformation, resisted the lure of short-term trends, and built a company that's helping the world's largest enterprises thrive in a tech-driven future.

We've always said to understand the economy, you have to understand human nature, and nothing reveals that better than watching the biggest players do a Godfather-style U-turn for easy money. In this episode, we connect the dots between Marlon Brando's Don Corleone and Jamie Dimon's pivot from calling crypto “a fraud” to using it as loan collateral, all while the President of the United States holds stakes in coins of his own. We unpack how the $2 trillion crypto market has morphed from anti-Wall Street rebellion to one of the most powerful lobby groups in America, funnelling cash to Congress to rewrite the rules. Along the way, we lift the lid on stablecoins, explain why money is a public good (not a private printing press for the TikTok age), and ask what happens if the dollar's last line of defence, the Fed, gets taken out. Life imitating art imitating life… and the ending might not be pretty. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

That shift has market odds now pricing in a near certainty of a September rate cut—plus the potential for multiple cuts by year-end. For asset owners, it's a gift: stocks, gold, silver, and speculative plays are all climbing. But for everyone else, it means more inflation and higher costs of living. Nick unpacks the revision's size and why the outdated BLS methodology fuels them, contrasts it with ADP's numbers, and notes GDP growth at 3% with no recession in sight. Gold is flirting with $3,400, silver above $38, and the majors are breaking out. Copper took a hit after Trump backtracked on refined-product tariffs, but long-term deficits remain the driver. Both expect strong M&A activity in gold and copper as companies enter fall conference season with healthy balance sheets.Market Takes - Private Placement Intel's latest deal is a U.S. uranium company with an 11M-pound historic resource, run by a proven team behind URZ Energy and Azarga Uranium. It's valued at just C$2M, insiders own 43% (most locked until 2026), and the financing is at $0.05—a lower entry than any insider has had. Nick and Gerardo call it “easy money” given the track record. They also discuss the broader uranium market's political and energy tailwinds. This deal was open to new participation until this morning (08/11/2025) but is now oversubscribed and closed to new interest.Bizarro Banter - This week's cultural detour is brief, but the theme remains: “everything is awesome” for asset owners. Gerardo and Nick highlight that to thrive, you must “get in the game” in some form—because the old 9-to-5 model is dying by design. Side hustles, multiple revenue streams, and smart capital allocation are no longer optional. Plus a bullish development: allowing Bitcoin directly in 401(k)s. Nick sees it as part of a larger trend toward tokenization, private equity access, and ETF innovation. Gerardo recounts helping a friend turn a six-figure Vanguard 401(k) into seven figures by shifting into select juniors before restrictions hit, underscoring the importance of investor control over capital.Premium Portfolio Picks - For paid listeners only. They then shine a light on the cast of Maya's narrative-form podcast and break down the scheme that made Ponzi infamous (11:43). This leads to a conversation about Bernie Madoff and other modern grifters and how they're able to succeed using Ponzi's diagram (25:24). After the break, Larry and Maya talk about why money is valuable and society's general misunderstanding of how currency works (31:06). We unpack themes like simulated realities, the search for meaning, and whether a perfect world is actually desirable. We cover a wide range of topics including: How Asimov's Three Laws break down in novel situations Potential alternate endings and our unanswered questions The magic of Amazon's invisible infrastructure What happens when every human desire is fulfilled? Going in, we had no idea what to expect, but it definitely delivered an experience. (2:15) From a storytelling perspective, we feel that the book injected drama and conflict into an otherwise straightforward narrative. (4:43) Nat, Neil, and Adil talk about parallels between this book and Nat's sci-fi novel, Husk. (8:30) Our discussion shifts to Isaac Asimov's I, Robot and the famous but imperfect Three Laws of Robotics, and how these laws start to break down in complex situations. (13:10) Spoiler alert (skip ahead if you need!): We get into the book's climax, which left us confused and with plenty of lingering questions. (17:17) We brainstorm alternative endings and wonder what a longer version of the book might have explored. (19:51) Neil connects the book with the film Dark City. How can you be sure the world you wake up to is the same one you remember? (32:07) There have been many technological advancement in the 2010s, but one that leaves us impressed is Amazon's logistics system. (38:15) Large acquisitions that have gone on in our lifetime, like Instagram, Slack, and WhatsApp.  (45:52) A look at how major social platforms' rise was driven by hardware breakthroughs: Facebook's shift to mobile, Instagram becoming a camera-native app, and TikTok's explosive growth thanks to 4G/5G streaming. I'm so proud to present the pilot episode of a new show I'm hosting, Easy Money: The Charles Ponzi Story. In 1920, a broke immigrant in Boston became one of America's richest, most infamous men—practically overnight. In just nine months, he swindled the modern equivalent of a quarter billion dollars, upended the world of finance, and etched his name into history as the mastermind behind one of the most notorious scams ever: the Ponzi scheme.Hosted by me and featuring award-winning comedian and actor Sebastian Maniscalco, Easy Money: The Charles Ponzi Story is a docudrama that captures the rise and fall—both outrageous and tragic—of the con artist who fooled the world and paid the price. What if everything you've been taught about achieving success is backwards? What if the very thing you've been doing to create abundance is actually pushing it away from you? You've been programmed to believe that struggle equals worth. That if money comes easily, it's not legitimate. That you have to earn your abundance through pain, through sacrifice, through proving yourself worthy to some invisible judge in the sky. I learned this the hard way. For years, I believed that my worth was measured by how hard I worked. I would stay up until 3 AM, sacrifice my relationships, push my body to the breaking point, all in the name of "success." And you know what I got? Burnout. Frustration. And a bank account that reflected exactly how much resistance I was creating.

You know, the most fascinating thing I've discovered in my exploration of reality is how differently money behaves than what most of us have been taught. We've all heard the stories – work hard, struggle long, sacrifice everything – but what if those were just stories from a timeline we no longer need to participate in? What you're about to experience is a specially designed sleep meditation that will fundamentally shift your relationship with money. We're going to reprogram those old beliefs about struggle and replace them with a new truth – that money can and should come easily. Tonight we're going to reprogram your subconscious mind as you drift into peaceful sleep, allowing the natural flow of abundance to become your default reality. This includes affirmations and binaural programming technologies.

And right now, in this very moment, you're about to discover why millions are flowing to those who've unlocked this one simple truth: money doesn't have to be hard. What if I told you that your relationship with money isn't fixed? That the stories you've been telling yourself about wealth - stories passed down through generations of struggle - can be rewritten? This episode utilizes powerful affirmations that have helped thousands shift from a mindset of scarcity to one of abundance.  This will help in rewiring the deep mental patterns that have been unconsciously limiting your financial growth. These affirmations will help align your mindset with the natural flow of abundance. You'll absorb powerful concepts and ideas that have helped people manifest unexpected windfalls, surprise inheritances, and yes - even overnight wealth. Haven't you noticed how some people seem to attract wealth almost magnetically? While others push and strain, these rare individuals simply open their arms and welcome avalanches of abundance. Their secret isn't hustle or struggle - it's understanding that money is meant to flow effortlessly. Because when you align with the energy of easy money, the universe has no choice but to deliver.
