**Jeep Talk Show – Tire Tread Depth Reality Check + How to Properly Tow Your Jeep (XJ, JK, JL, JT & Gladiator)** Tony and Josh are back with another no-BS episode. We start by correcting the record on tire tread depth after some listener pushback, then dig deep into the right (and wrong) ways to tow a Jeep so you don't melt your transfer case or destroy your drivetrain. After that Tony shows off a pile of new website tools he's built for the community — Jeep of the Week, networked show timer, JTS Honor Badge generator, live chat, Best Of archive, Discord discount codes, and more. ### Timestamps 00:00 Intro Banter and Show Opening 00:27 Tire Tread Depth Standards and Safety Discussion 05:17 Towing an XJ Jeep: Methods and Considerations 11:13 Flat Towing Options for Various Jeep Models 12:30 Setting Transfer Case and Transmission for Safe Towing 14:47 Essential Pre‑Tow Checks: Steering, Parking Brake, and Lockers 15:40 Foot Brake and Driver Position Safety Tips 16:18 Flat‑Towing Setup: Parking Brake, Lockers, and Dolly Use 18:27 Hybrid Towing Options and Cost Considerations 19:56 Gladiator Towing Cherokee: Capacity and Gear Planning 20:40 Show Timer Integration and Remote Recording Setup 22:06 Show Timer Feature Overview and Segment Selection 23:15 Launch of "Jeep of the Week" Feature and Community Engagement 26:03 Jeep of the Week with Video Voicemail: Listener Participation 27:38 Reviving the "You Bought and What?" The widely recommended replacement point for everyday/wet driving is **4/32"**. Many shops and safety groups push 5–6/32" for trucks, SUVs, and wet/snow climates. - Safest way to tow any Jeep (TJ/YJ/JK/JL/JT/Gladiator): all four wheels off the ground (flatbed or wheel-lift + front dolly). - Minimum setup if you must two-wheel tow: transfer case in Neutral, automatic transmission in Park (or manual in gear), steering unlocked, parking brake off, lockers unlocked. For longer distances, remove driveshafts. - Atlas transfer cases have distance limits when flat-towed — pull the shafts if you're going far. ### Calls to Action Submit your ride for **Jeep of the Week**: jeeptalkshow.com (Listener Jeeps link in the top menu) Join the Discord & grab discount codes: jeeptalkshow.com/discord (type `/discount`) Best Of archive (top 50 episodes ranked by downloads): on the website Create your own JTS Honor Badge and drop it in the gallery Leave a 5-star rating & review on YouTube, Spotify, or your podcast app Questions or episode ideas? jeeptalkshow.com/contact Support the show on Patreon for exclusive perks: jeeptalkshow.com/contact --- **Support the Show & Shop Jeep Gear** Thank you for watching and listening! Tom and Jon finally get around to The Queue segment that didn't fit into Episode 273 and apparently theme park leftovers can still make a full meal.We begin at SeaWorld Orlando, where Tom discusses visiting on the final day of the park's free-beer promotion and his experience with the locker system near Mako.Next, we head to Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. Tom talks about unusually long security lines stretching beyond the tram area, his first look at the new Edge of Africa: Lion & Hyena Ridge, weather interfering with plans to ride Kumba and another round of free beer. There was also food involved, because naturally there was. Tom, Elena and Jon tried the 16-inch Family-Size Meat Lovers Pizza from Taproom Pizza for $33.99.Finally, Tom and Jon briefly discuss Six Flags Great Adventure's newly announced Bakunawa. Coming in 2027, the massive spinning launch coaster is being promoted as a six-record-breaking attraction featuring a 382-foot climb, speeds of up to 100 mph and an upside-down launch.
AP correspondent Charles de Ledesma reports an Australian airline is going to charge passengers to use the overhead lockers for their bags.
Budget-conscious travellers will need to think twice before rolling their carry-on case to the airport - from next year. From February next year, Jetstar customers will have to pay to use the overhead lockeer, with prices starting at $23, depending on availability. Consumer NZ Chief Executive Jon Duffy spoke to Melissa Chan-Green.
Jetstar is lifting its 7kg carry-on weight limit, but starting February 2nd, storing a bag in the overhead locker will cost passengers up to $52. Aviation writer Robyn Ironside joined 4BC Drive to break down whether this change is genuinely about speeding up boarding times or just a clever revenue generator.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
It’s back-to-school time. Today, I have friends walking their baby into kindergarten for the very first time. And I have other friends helping their baby move into a college dorm. Those two days feel worlds apart… until you’ve lived them. Those of us a little farther down the road know the truth. One day you’re zipping a backpack that’s almost bigger than they are. The next day you’re hugging them goodbye in a parking lot, trying not to cry until they can’t see you anymore. The days are long. The years are unbelievably short. And that’s exactly how it’s supposed to be. We aren’t raising children to keep them. We’re raising them to release them. But before that day comes, God gives us something incredibly sacred. Influence. During the school year, our children will spend nearly half of their waking hours at school. Nearly half. Half of their conversations. Half of their friendships. Half of their victories. Half of their disappointments. Half of the voices speaking into their lives. As moms, that realization can make us want to tighten our grip. We want to protect them from every hurt, every bad influence, every disappointment, every temptation. But we can’t. We can’t walk beside them every minute. God can. He’ll be in the classroom before they arrive. He’ll be standing in the hallway when they feel alone. He’ll be at the lunch table when they’re wondering where they belong. He’ll be on the bus ride, at practice, during the test, in the hard conversation, in the moment they need courage, and in the split second when they have to choose right over wrong. There isn’t one place your child will go where God cannot meet them. But here’s the beautiful and really really important thing… We get to invite Him there. We’ll buy the new shoes. We’ll pack the lunches. We’ll label the notebooks. But before we send them out the door… Let’s send them covered in prayer. Our my greatest assignment as a mother was never to control my children. It is to continually talk to God about them. Not lecture them more. Not yell louder. Not worry harder. Prayer is the most powerful thing you will ever do for my children. James 5:16, “The prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.” Do we actually believe that? If we do, then let’s pray like it. One of my favorite pictures of bold prayer comes from Joshua and the walls of Jericho. Jericho looked impossible. The walls were too high. Too thick. Too strong. Humanly speaking, there was no way through. But God didn’t hand Joshua a cannon to blast through the walls – He gave him marching orders. “Walk around it.” Once a day for six days. Seven times on the seventh day. After the 7th circle on the 7th day, have the priest blow their horns, let the people shout, and those walls will just fall down. Read the story in Joshua chapter 6. The battle plan from God sounded foolish. Marching doesn’t knock down walls. Trumpets don’t break stone. But obedience invited the power of God. And when God’s people obeyed, the walls that looked impossible suddenly came crashing down. Ever since reading The Circle Maker, I’ve loved the picture of praying circles. Sometimes I literally walk around the thing I’m praying for. Sometimes I simply picture it in my mind. Not because there’s something magical about circles. There’s not. The power isn’t in the walking. The power is in the God we’re walking with. The circle simply reminds me that I’m surrounding something with persistent, believing prayer. Mama… This school year, your Jericho may be the very building your child walks into every morning. So go make a circle. Walk around that school. Pray over every classroom. Pray over every teacher. Pray over every coach. Pray over every bus. Pray over every lunch table. Pray over every child who walks through those doors—including the ones who have no one praying for them. Pray that truth would be louder than lies. Pray that kindness would overcome cruelty. Pray that lonely kids would find friends. Pray that teachers would have wisdom and patience. Pray that they would have JESUS! Pray that your child would have courage to stand for what’s right. Pray that God would place divine appointments in their path. Pray that lives would be changed. Pray that walls would come down. But this isn’t just a call for mom’s with kids in school – this is a call for every single one of us listening. Listen to me – at a school near you, there are children inside those walls who desperately need someone talking to God on their behalf. THEY HAVE NO ONE PRAYING FOR THEM! Someone is carrying burdens no one else knows. Someone is terrified. Someone is lonely. Someone is one encounter away from discovering Jesus. Someone needs heaven to move. And prayer still has the power to move heaven. WHY NOT BE THE ONE WHO PRAYS FOR THEM? So let’s get to marching. Let’s get to praying. Let’s circle our schools until the God who brought down the walls of Jericho does what only He can do. Because while our children may spend nearly half of their waking hours at school, they never have to spend one moment there without the presence of God going before them. Could your prayer really make a difference? Absolutely. Read James 5:16 again: “The prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.” Do you know who that righteous person is? You. Not because you’ve done everything right, but because Jesus made you right with God. Through Him, you have been given the incredible privilege of approaching the throne of God with confidence. You don’t have to wonder if you’re worthy enough to pray. Jesus settled that once and for all. Now pray. Pray boldly. Pray specifically. Pray expectantly. Your prayers aren’t empty words floating into the air. They are powerful conversations with the God who moves mountains, breaks chains, opens doors, and brings down walls. So start praying your circles. Circle your children. Circle their school. Circle their teachers. Circle the principal. Circle the coaches. Circle the staff. Circle the lonely kids. Circle the hurting families. Invite the presence of God into every classroom, every hallway, every bus ride, every friendship, and every decision. Because your prayers have great power and God still produces wonderful results. If you don’t know what to pray, you pray scripture! Yes, pray God’s own word, declare his promises over the school. I have a easy guide in the transcript of this devotional at biglifedevotional.com. (Thank you, Darlene!) Inside Allen Park: What Voluntary Workouts Really Are One week after the 2026 NFL Draft, Allen Park is busy. The Detroit Lions are in the voluntary phase of the offseason workout program. Photos show players in the building. Gibbs is there. Branch is there. Tarion is there. It's not practice. Not yet. Players are in meetings. They lift. They run. Injured players rehab with staff. Coaches sit in on meetings but do not coach on-field actions. That comes later. OTAs and a Firm Mini Camp on the Calendar The NFL calendar is set. The Lions released their OTA dates. They start later in May. There are three three-day periods. The mandatory mini camp lands around Father's Day weekend. That's the first time the entire team is required to attend. A holdout can happen, but it's rare. Last year was different. The Lions canceled mandatory mini camp because they were preparing for the Hall of Fame Game. In hindsight, that move did not help. There's no sign they will cancel it this year. Rookie Minicamp Canceled, What Changes for Newcomers The team canceled rookie minicamp. So what happens now? The rookie draft class and signed undrafted free agents will still be in the building. Contract signings are expected this weekend. The official UDFA list is likely to post today. New players will get orientation. Lockers. Food. Training rooms. Where to be and when. They also plug into parts of the offseason program tailored to rookies. They will attend the NFL PA rookie seminar. The message is direct. Do not gamble on sports. Do not gamble in the team hotel or lobby. Even if it's not football. Go across the street if you must. The J Mo situation still hangs over that topic. He got six games. The rules are the rules, even if they feel contradictory. There is a cost to scrapping the rookie minicamp. No invitee local players this year. That's where Natelyn once showed up and made noise. Ian Kennelly from Grand Valley State did the same last year and earned real preseason run. Those football reps matter for long shots. Agents notice. They are disappointed. So are some of us who value those looks. A Younger, Healthier Push by Detroit The Lions are changing things. What worked got them to a point. It felt like they plateaued. So they are pushing different buttons. Younger. Healthier. That theme runs through free agency and the draft. Tomorrow's guest on the Detroit Lions Podcast underscores it. This is a conscious shift by Brad Holmes and his staff. The same old approach wasn't enough. Detroit is trying to clear the hump, and the plan is clear. #detroitlions #lions #detroitlionspodcast #nfl #allenpark #offseasonworkoutprogram #otas #mandatoryminicamp #rookieminicampcanceled #undraftedfreeagents #rookieseminar #nflpa #strengthandconditioning #alexanzalone #gibbs #branch #tarion Learn more about your ad choices. Join Tony and April on the **Jeep Talk Show** flagship episode for a casual, fun catch-up chat after a three-week break! In this laid-back discussion, they dive into hot Jeep topics, share personal takes, and keep the laughs rolling. Key highlights include: - **Jeep's discontinuation of the 4xe plug-in hybrid models** (Wrangler and Grand Cherokee) for 2026 – why it doesn't bother April (old-school simplicity wins), range anxiety fears, charging challenges in rural areas, and how PHEVs sometimes traded capability for electrification quirks. - **Mud Terrain (MT) tires vs. lockers** – which upgrade to prioritize first? They agree: go tires first for better overall traction (rocks, mud, emergencies), then add lockers. April shares her approach of testing without lockers first to learn the Jeep's limits and reduce drivetrain stress. - **Ham radio vs. GMRS for emergency/off-road comms** – Tony questions if ham is phasing out with modern tech (satellites, internet), but April champions GMRS (easy, no test, family license, Midland's Jeep-friendly setups like the MXT series with integrated mics for tight dashes). Great for trails where cell service fails! - **Wrangler 392 pricing gripes** – recent price drops (like the 2026 Moab 392 coming in ~$20K cheaper), the thrill of that Hemi V8 roar, and why it's worth the premium (plus jealousy over friends' new ones). - **Off-road pet peeves** from the round table fireside chat crew: dropdown steps on rock sliders, loud concert-level speakers blasting music on trails, rear dual-exit exhausts getting mangled, oversized wheels, hitch sliders, and trail judgment. - Bonus: Tony plugs his new interview-focused show **Tony Muckleroy** (check it out on YouTube/Spotify for paranormal chats, preppers, and more wide-ranging topics). If you're a Jeep owner, off-roader, or just love the community vibe, this episode is full of relatable rants, practical advice, and good-natured banter. Hit play for trail stories, gear tips, and that classic Jeep passion!
Welcome to Episode 1407 of the **Jeep Talk Show**—we're now in our **16th year** delivering unfiltered Jeep talk, trail tips, mod advice, and real community vibes! In this episode, Tony dives into the **shocking news** that's rocking the Jeep world right now: **Stellantis has officially discontinued the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) 4xe models** in North America starting with the 2026 model year. The Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe have vanished from Jeep's build configurator—no press release, no fanfare, just quietly pulled. We break down why this happened: ongoing recalls (battery fires, power issues, stop-sales), shifting demand with lower gas prices, the end of big EV incentives, and why simpler gas or mild-hybrid setups might make more sense for real off-roaders. Current 4xe owners—don't panic; get your recalls handled, and Jeep should keep supporting parts for years. Is this a smart pivot away from problematic tech, or a step back from "green"? We discuss the pros/cons and what it means for the future of electrified Jeeps. We also tackle the classic budget mod question: **Mud-Terrain (MT) tires first, or lockers?** Tires are the foundation—they touch the ground and give instant gains in mud, loose dirt, rocks, and looks (that aggressive stance!). Lockers shine in extreme rock crawling where wheels lift off, but on a budget, many Jeepers swear by starting with MTs for better "two-tire grip" across axles vs. four potentially spinning. We share real thoughts on why MTs often win for everyday wheeling, plus when lockers become essential. What's your pick? Drop it in the comments! Tony rants (again) about **Wrangler 392 pricing**—why are we still seeing these V8 beasts priced way too high (even after recent drops like the new Moab 392 specials coming in ~$20k cheaper than prior Rubicons)? With gas prices down and love for that Hemi torque/sound, Jeep could move way more units by making it more accessible—closer to a loaded 3.6 Rubicon premium. Come on, Jeep—keep the go-anywhere spirit alive without luxury pricing! Communications corner: Is **ham radio for emergency use** obsolete with GMRS, cell phones, and Starlink? We explore why ham still rules as a resilient backup (no grid/internet needed, global reach in disasters like hurricanes or EMP scenarios). GMRS is easier for trail chats, but build a layered plan—test your gear, know repeater backups, and stay ready. 73 to the hams out there! Bonus: Tony announces his **new interview show** (The Tony Muckleroy Show on YouTube & Spotify)—wide-ranging convos on anything interesting, starting with a personal one on paranormal experiences with his daughter. Check it out for ghosts, stories, or random deep dives! Thanks for watching/listening, Jeep family! Smash that **LIKE**, **SUBSCRIBE**, and hit the bell for more. Comment your thoughts on the 4xe news, MTs vs. lockers, 392 pricing, or ham radio. Send voice messages/ideas via jeep talkshow.com/contact, DM on X @TonyMuckleroy, or call in next live! Tuesday Hour 1: Lockers in high school, UNI Coach Ben Jacobson & Iowa State's win over Mississippi State
In celebration of the show now fully hitting it's 50th anniversary, we're going back to the earliest episode we've yet to cover: Rob Reiner, with no real musical guest. Except, we do get some music in the episode. We get A LOT of things, actually. Much like the show's first episode, there's a bunch of elements in the gumbo for tonight; John Belushi doing his Joe Cocker, Andy Kaufman and his record player return to the show, The Lockers do some street dancing, Albert Brooks turns in what has to be the longest pre-taped segment the show has ever aired. Hell, even Denny Dillon is there! It's a fascinating building block towards what the show would become, with a myriad of "firsts" in play and William Ham is on board to help us figure it all out!

Oakmont was every bit the punishing test we expected, and this year’s U.S. Open lived up to its brutal reputation. Fast greens, deep rough, steady rain, and those infamous church pew bunkers made survival the name of the game. In the end, it was JJ Spaun who rose above the chaos, capturing the title with the only score under par for the week and a short game that held firm under immense pressure. His clutch tee shot on 17 will be remembered—but the 62-foot bomb he dropped on 18 was pure electricity. We break down the big names that faltered throughout the week, reminding us once again that Oakmont doesn’t play favorites. It was a classic U.S. Open: unforgiving, dramatic, and a true test of championship golf. Oakmont never disappoints.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
