Lesson 14: The Wise Use of TimeParagraphs: 14-17Life's hiccups can unravel us or they can be moments of profound learning—a choice I faced head-on when my son's car trouble called for a late-night rescue mission. What unfolded was not just a tale of a stranded teenager and his weary dad, but a lesson in transformation that I'm eager to share. I recount this personal episode to set the stage for a discussion on the power of positive self-talk and the remarkable shift from anxiety to exhilaration, with an insight from my days at the San Diego Padres that might just change the way you face your next big challenge.Imagine picking up the phone to call a stranger, not to sell them something, but to offer a simple message of love and affirmation. This episode takes us through a unique exercise that pushes the boundaries of comfort, inspired by the Way of Mastery's teachings. As we explore the nuances of this practice, we also delve into the concept that the treasures we seek aren't in the accolades we accumulate but in the love we give and embody. Join me as we examine the emotional landscape of random acts of kindness and how they redefine our sense of self-worth and purpose. Finally, we're beckoned to consider love not as a fleeting emotion but as the core of our very existence. Through meditation, teaching, and daily practice, I share how we can peel back the layers of our ego to reveal the limitless potential for love within us all. The episode concludes with an exercise from the 'Way of Transformation' program, guiding you through a month-long journey towards embracing this powerful truth. So settle in and prepare for a heart-centric voyage as we journey together toward embodying the transformative essence of love.If you're interested in the Living The Way of Mastery Year-Long Program, click here.If you'd like to support the podcast, you can donate here:https://www.buymeacoffee.com/thewayofmasteryIf you would like to experience Revelation Breathwork, you can get our FREE 3-part Breathwork for Beginners series here.Purchase The Way of Mastery here. Marc Bingham, a pioneering entrepreneur in the field of telephone directory publishing, has made a notable impact in the industry by identifying and successfully exploiting a unique market niche. Launching his first phone directory in 1971 in Carbon County as a young government employee, Marc recognized an untapped opportunity to offer comprehensive directories at more affordable rates than those of traditional phone companies. This innovative approach proved successful, leading to the growth of his venture, Phone Directories Co., which eventually published directories in over 200 locations including several Canadian provinces.A key to Marc's success has been his adoption of the Jaycees organization's principles, which emphasize a balanced approach to life — financially, mentally, physically, socially, and spiritually. These principles not only shaped his business philosophy but also guided his commitment to community service. In 2007, Marc made a significant shift by selling Phone Directories and investing his profits into Blue Diamond Capital, a company based in Orem. Blue Diamond has since fostered the growth of various businesses across retail, hospitality, land development, and aviation in four states. Beyond his business endeavors, Marc is also known for his philanthropy, particularly his substantial contributions to Utah's public universities, supporting diverse projects like an Entrepreneurship and Energy Research Center, a botanical garden museum, and a new track, reflecting his commitment to giving back to the community and supporting educational initiatives.
Today we're saving many of the things from our youth that our own kids' generations will never understand … like what the heck a phone book is (not to mention how to use it). From smoking sections on airplanes (why bother??) to having to WAIT for your favorite song to play (the agony!) to the migraines the microfiche machine triggered (and which the memory still does), we're breaking down some of the staples of our childhoods that continue to puzzle the most recent generations. But really, how did we survive without computers to do all our work for us? In this episode, I have the pleasure of speaking with Jessica Speer. She is the author of 3 books, BFF or NRF (Not Really Friends), Middle School (Safety Googles Advised), and The Phone Book. She helps youth discover, evaluate and value friendships and the complexities of relationships. A fantastic listen and even better resource for teens, and preteens in the most important years of connection building. https://jessicaspeer.com/Support the show

Joe, Biff and Jacques chat some good stuff like SPIRITED the new instant classic Christmas special with Ryan Reynolds & Will Ferrell, Georgia Senator Warnock winning his 4th election in 2 years and Brittney Griner release (and all the racism the GQP could throw her way). Jacques actually got a really honest to goodness phone book in the mail this week and also finding (much to Joe's chagrin) the show breakdown and opening skit he was pitching local cable company when Joe mistakenly asked him about simply doing a podcast back in 2016! Jacques chats his latest stand-up comedy follies, his uncle dying (who he was not close enough to, to know that he lost a lung in 1974 when he was shot by a cop running from a heist in Chelsea MA – True story). Biff and Jacques get into it a bit over both thinking World Cup games ending on penalty kicks is stupid by Biff seeing them as a necessary evil. Joe breaks down the new Nintendo Switch – Atari 50th Anniversary Celebration pack and a bit of a history lesson of just how shitty Atari was to the employees that built their empire. This week we talk with Caslon Kahle a physical archivist, donation coordinator, musician, low-key wizard, and wanderer from the Internet Archive. The Internet Archive (archive.org) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that was founded to build an Internet library, with the purpose of offering permanent access for researchers, historians, and scholars to historical collections that exist in digital format. Founded in 1996, the Internet Archive has an historical web collection (the Wayback Machine) of over 150 billion web pages, about 240,000 movies, over 500,000 audio items (including over 70,000 live concerts), over 1,800,000 texts, 1600 education items, and over 30,000 software items. We talk with Caslon about garages full of toy catalogs, sweaty times avoiding the law in a New York Basement structurally supported by 45s, the internet's phone book, and so much more. Scott Gibala Broxholm is on the #ReadingWithYourKids #Podcast to celebrate his delightful new #Children'sBook The Ele-Phone Book. Scott tells us this book was in some ways inspired by the old "telephone" game. In the book Mouse calls her friend Elephant to see if he can play. But he doesn't feel at all well. He may EVEN have . . . the dreaded ZOO FLU! So Mouse calls their friend Giraffe to tell her about Elephant. Giraffe calls another friend who calls another. But something is wrong with the phones and it's hard to hear what is said. So what each of his friends hears about him just gets wackier and wackier . . . and maybe . . . just maybe, it isn't the ZOO FLU after all! Scott and Jedlie have a great conversation about the book, about helping kids become more discerning about the information the are exposed to and how wondeerful kids can be. The game is back and so are we with an unfortunate continuance of the same quality of content we provided you in Season 1. We start with a unfocused discussion of the 2022-23 season and then move to some predictions for top-4 (and 5-6) and relegation. We then somehow fall into an Adama Traoré bet that can only bring shame to all involved.League Code: b86agzOpening and filler music provided by The Tan and Sober GentlemenFollow @3GDIE on TwitterJoin us on Discord https://discord.gg/HBMCmXbSOpening and filler music by The Tan and Sober Gentlemen
This week, I'm going solo! I wasn't feeling 100% the last couple days. Little cough and a stuffy nose, but no COVID, so I canceled my interview with my guest. Instead of skipping a week, I decided to sit down for a solo quick episode touching on some shit going on in life and then answering some listener questions yinz sent in. We're talking about pets, homeowner problems, current events, what I been watching lately, the Half Assed Beer Share, and more. If you rip through this one quick, jump back into the Phone Book and find a name you aren't hip to and hit play. I'll be back next week with another great guest doing great things for the city. Before phone books emerged in the late nineteenth century, many U.S. towns had city directories. In recent years, cell phones and the internet have made printed directories obsolete.
Comedian Sumukh Torgalkar (Sirius XM Laugh USA) has had quite a few boring jobs, but somehow he's managed to spice it up by either adding mayonnaise, befriending future wrestling superstars, or quitting after one week. The Domain Name System -- DNS -- is like the Internet's phone book. It's how computers match URLs to IP addresses in order to help you do things like look at web pages or send emails.Sure, the system seems like an obvious way of structuring the Internet now. After all, can you imagine the Web without Google.com and Amazon.com and Facebook.com? But the current structure of Internet domain names wasn't always an obvious solution to the problem. In this episode of Web Masters, you'll hear how the Domain Name System came into being from the man who invented DNS, Paul Mockapetris. Paul's vision for Internet routing was critical for making the Internet infinitely scalable. But, when he proposed it, he wasn't actually in a position to implement his vision. So, before his system could be adopted, he had to make sure nobody else's proposals were ever considered. Luckily, he was given a perfect opportunity to intervene. For a complete transcript of the episode, click here.

While sharing a drink at a literary pub in New York, Steph Kent & Logan Smalley mused about their favorite first lines in novels. Settling on Moby Dick's notorious "Call Me Ishmael," they wondered what would happen if Ishmael had a phone number that book lovers could call. It didn't take long for Ishmael to have his own number. Voicemails began pouring in from around the country as callers shared their most memorable reading experiences, favorite titles, books that changed and shaped their lives, and even one special copy of Beloved that cost a friendship. Steph and Logan join Marrie Stone to talk about The Call Me Ishmael Phone Book, which includes not only their favorite voicemail messages about books and authors, but interviews with independent bookstores around the United States, literary museums, author grave sites, and so much more. They talk about how the idea began, and how it grew. They share some of their favorite stories, and how the project is still evolving. They invite you to call Ishmael at (774) 325-0503 to share your own reading experiences or listen to the experiences of others. Visit their website for more information, or follow them on Instagram and Twitter. Download audio. (Record date: October 12, 2020)

Josh and Kurt talk about the phone book (yeah, the big paper book people used to use). Kurt got one in the mail. While it's certainly a relic from another time, there were security tips in it among other wild things.

"The whole issue that was emerging around for last two days on who put the Aadhaar helpline number in your contact list, came to a relief late Friday night when Google, the Android operating system provider accepted that ""they"" have done it. The company in a statement said that an internal review has revealed that in 2014, the then UIDAI helpline number and the 112 distress helpline number such as police, ambulance, fire etc were coded into the SetUp wizard of the Android phones. That was later used in India and has remained there since. And before jumping on to a false conclusion about whom to blame and whom to not, ask yourself: Why did Google save the UIDAI number in your contact list in the first place? They didnt wake up one day and said ''Lets add UIDAI phone number to the Indian phones for fun''. It is a matter of concern over the safety of Aadhar database, safety about You and Me, the 1.35 billion people who's privacy is now in grave danger. And the government is doing nothing about it. Our Correspondent Miss Anusha Bhattacharya gives more insights about the case.
We’re chatting with Mark Reeder a musician and music producer who has been involved in the Berlin and international music scene since 1978, starting as Factory Records German representative from 1978-1983.Through contacts in the GDR he put on several secret punk gigs behind the Iron Curtain and his Stasi file is described as “as thick as a phone book”. He is however, denied access to the full file as it remains in the possession of the German Federal Intelligence Service...He is also the founder and owner of the first East German electronic dance music label Masterminded For Success “MFS” which he started in 1990, after being the only and last Westerner to make an album in communist East Germany which was “Torture” by Die Vision in 1989.His is a very interesting and unusual account with some great stories including how he smuggled a Volksarmee uniform across the Berlin Wall and the unusual currency needed to get your phone fixed.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/coldwarpod)
Tuesday April 24, 2018: We talk about the royal baby, DNA testing, Meek Mill, Return of the Mack, and romaine lettuce. Pinkman and Fritz face off in closest to the pin again. Mo doesn't like tribal music. The regular round of closest to the pin is a real cracker. Fritz on the street gets heated as usual and we close the show with PPT.
