In this episode we're going to cover event proposals and how to write ones that more clients will say "YES" to. An event proposal is a document created to win new business, detailing the fees an event manager/event management company will charge for services to produce an event. Event planners live and die by their event proposals, so if you aren't using them you are definitely leaving money on the table. Here are the five major components to starting on a winning event proposal: Introduce yourself and the project. Write an attractive event description. List all services provided. How to Start with Friends and Family Text everyone in your phone. Email everyone in your inbox with a personal message letting them know about your business. Post on your own Facebook page. Call close friends and let them know what you’re up to. Invite a group of friends to coffee and ask them to share your story. (If you trust this group of friends you can ask them for feedback on what you’re doing. If you do not trust their business sense then do not let their opinions change your passion for planning.) Give business cards to your friends that they can pass out. Offer to do a free event for your friends and family in exchange for a Yelp review, photo shoot and testimonial. Ask friends to share your website on their Facebook page. You can also tell former bosses, past business acquaintances and former co-workers. There are ways to communicate these messages to them without being overly salesy. Trust me when I say they all want to hear about your new adventure. Once you reach out to your inner circle, you can launch a social media outreach campaign. How to Get Clients through Social Media Post images of your events or other beautiful events you like on Instagram. Follow and connect with similar people on Instagram. Join Twitter and use the “advanced search” function to find brides-to-be, corporate clients, venues, vendors, etc and begin following and interacting with them. Join local community groups on Facebook and start adding value to the groups by posting your knowledge. They will quickly view you as an expert and reach out to you. Post your knowledge on your Facebook page. You can also run contests to give away a free event. Partner with local restaurants or venues to post content on their Facebook pages (great idea!). Get a past client, family or friend to do a short Youtube video review of your work. Social media works but it takes a little time. You have to create a strategy (use the one I just wrote above) and execute on it every single day. Just do one small thing on social media once per day. We call this “planing your seed”, and in a few months the seeds you plant in the social media world will grow to be large, beautiful, healthy trees. When you begin marketing on social media make sure you choose the same Company name on every platform (same name on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Youtube). How to Get Clients on Review Sites The next place to get clients is on review sites. Yelp, Thumbtack and Craigslist are some of the best places to get new clients but the key is to have 10 or more reviews. Let's Be Friends! Having a broad topic usually means more competition. The more focused your niche, the easier it is to convey expertise. Having expert-level knowledge. Keep in mind, being an expert on a topic might mean you have better-than-average knowledge. You don’t have to be a genius or have traditional credentials. Knowing who your audience is, what their problems are, and how you can teach them to solve those problems. Lights, camera, action! Now that you picked a subject and have all the right gear, it’s time to shoot some video! Place the green screen on the wall behind you. Make sure you pull the green screen taut so that there are no wrinkles or sagging as that can show up in the videos when you edit the background. Then set up the camera on a tripod in front of you and place the lights behind the camera. Once you have your little mini-studio set-up it’s time to record. Do a test recording first to make sure that you look and sound good. If you see any sort of shadow on your face or body, adjust the lights accordingly to eliminate it. Article Source

    123. Three Things To Consider When You Don't Have Support

Play Episode Listen Later May 25, 2020 19:11

Whether your goals are for fitness, starting/growing your business, or just in general... support has been something I've always looked for to feel secure moving forward. But what happens when you don't have it? Then What? In this episode, I'm sharing my best advise for this challenge. Here are Three Steps to help you get the support you are needing: 1. Tell the truth about your aspirations. What are you really going for? If you talk small about your goals and dreams you may find that you're not showing up for your goals and dreams in the best way. Tell your supporters what you intend to create in ALL of it's greatness. 2. Lead by example. It’s easy to get defensive when someone shares unsolicited advice, but being the victim isn’t helping your situation. Instead, try talking only about the successes you’re experiencing, no matter how small they seem, so the people around you can see what’s possible for you. 3. Hear their fears. More-than-not, you’re not being supported because the other person is expressing their own fears and projecting their own failures. You've got this. Remember to have a strong "WHY" that you can go back to and keep going. Give yourself permission to fail and permission to learn from it. Based on this need for social connection, your reactions to rejection, negative judgment and stinging sarcastic remarks can range from minor hurt to bouts of depression. The ability to let a show of dislike roll off your back is a learned skill. You have to consciously balance your need to be liked with understanding what is true about the current situation. 1. Catch yourself reacting defensively or shutting down. The first step to handling a negative situation is to recognize your reaction. Instead of stuffing your emotions, you need to stop three or four times a day and ask yourself, “What am I feeling?” 2. Ask yourself what is true about the situation. When you sense yourself shutting down or feeling defensive, ask yourself what you believe the person meant to do to you. Did they truly mean to insult you, betray you, disrespect you, or make fun of you? 3. Finally, if you believe the person doesn’t like you, ask yourself whether this matters. Some people will like you. Others will not. Will the person’s judgment of you impact your work or life? Today I'm joined by UVU's newest event planning graduate: Paynton Matthews and I'm thrilled for you to listen in! Here are her five biggest takeaways from her time at event planning school: Things go wrong at events and it is out of your control. You have to think quick and not let your client know you are stressing. Think quick on your feet! You have to plan down to every little detail. Even the simplest of tasks can make the biggest difference. You wear many hats as an event planner. Knowing things in every aspect of event planning from audio to catering can be so helpful. Also, you may be a therapist or a seamstress from time to time. Whatever the job calls for! Building a network is so important. Building a network of other event planners and vendors can be helpful in your career. This is a stressful job (always in the top 5 most stressful jobs) it is important to find an activity/hobby outside of work (like dirtylicious) that can help you de-stress after work. It is very important for your mental health. Creating a memorable experience for the guests is so important. They may not remember the souvenir they brought home that night but they will remember the happiness they felt while attending your event. Event Planner's Toolbox: Batteries, black duct tape, bottled water, calculator, clear packing tape, clipboards, energy bars, extension cords, first aid kits, flashlights, floral wire, hammer, hand sanitizer, highlighters, mending kit, flat tire repair, jumper cables, pain reliever, paper clips, pencils, pens, markers, personal hygiene items, pocket knife, lint roller, rubber bands, safety pins, scissors, screwdriver, super glue, tape measure, USB drive, phone chargers/batterie backs, Walkie-Talkies, Ziplock bags. There are many moving parts on event day (Regardless of what type of event you've planned), and inevitably, unexpected situations will arise. If you don’t have the day-of-event details outlined to a tee in your Customizable Event Planning Checklist, you won'y miss anything. Which instead of showing up later as a big problem, the client and guest's will have no idea something even went wrong. There’s no need for that added stress when you can use your checklist to create a thorough day-of-event schedule. That’s precisely why you’ll want to keep track of every single thing that can affect the guest and client experience. It’s the little details that make a big difference. The result is them making almost double the revenue that a McDonalds makes per location, and are one of the largest family owned businesses in the United States. Here are my five biggest take aways from this Chicken-chain that apply to EVERY business. 1. Look for Opportunities 2. Create a Superior Customer Experience 3. Give the employees (and yourself) freedom to make choices that benefit the customer and business 4. Build Your Community and Get Involved 5. Businesses Don't Succeed or Fail, People Do.
