Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universes. The search for Hal Jordan's counterpart in the DCU series Lanterns is over as Aaron Pierre has been cast as John Stewart. Pierre won out against other frontrunner Stephen James after screen tests with Hal Jordan actor Kyle Chandler. The John Stewart character from comics holds a lot of weight as it was one of DC's first Black superheroes and is a fan favorite. You can catch Pierre in Netflix's Rebel Ridge and M. Night Shyamalan's movie Old. Disney isn't shying away from leaning into the projects that feel like surefire hits right now, and their updated release schedule reflects that. Both the live-action Lilo & Stitch movie and Freakier Friday - reuniting Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis - have 2025 release dates with Stitch coming first in May and the Freaky Friday sequel in August. Excitement follows both films, with Freakier Friday taking a look at a grown-up Anna, played by Lohan, and Lilo & Stitch featuring a blend of live-action and CGI that will feature original Stitch actor, Chris Sanders. Fandango announced that Wicked pre-sales, which went live last week for the November 22 release, are only second this year behind pre-sales of Deadpool & Wolverine. This also puts Wicked at the highest for advance ticket sales this year for a PG-rated movie and the third of all time in that category, standing up against Disney films Frozen II and 2019's The Lion King. Daniel Ezra who previously starred in Netflix's All American has joined the cast of Paramount and Edgar Wright's The Running Man and will star alongside Glen Powell and Katy O'Brien. Henry Cavill has signed on to star in Voltron for Amazon MGM Studios, a live action film based on the 1980s animated TV series that followed a team of space explorers who pilot a giant super robot known as Voltron and was adapted from several Japanese anime TV series from Toei Animation. Hit Netflix rom com series Nobody Wants This starring Adam Brody and Kristen Bell has been renewed for a second season. Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan who executive produced HBO's Girls have come on board as executive producers and showrunners for Season 2. Horror slasher Terrifier 3 opened ahead of expectations this weekend to take the number one spot at the box office, pulling in over $18 million dollars domestically, while Joker 2 had a historic drop off of 81% in its second weekend, only taking in $7 million dollars domestically. Radio Silence Productions is returning for a sequel to 2019 cult horror film Ready or Not. Star of the first film Samara Weaving will return for the sequel and Guy Busick and Ryan Murphy who wrote the original will return to write. AppleTV+ has released the first trailer for Silo season 2 starring Rebecca Ferguson. The series debuts on November 15th. The hunt is on for a host for the upcoming Oscars and sources tell Deadline that the tentative plan is to use an ensemble of rotating hosts and ABC has approached Amy Poehler, Dwayne Johnson, and the duo of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman about hosting the show. AppleTV+ has renewed Gary Oldman led spy drama series Slow Horses for a 6th season. A fifth season renewal was announced earlier this year. Prime Video has released a teaser trailer for season 3 of Invincible and has set Thursday, February 6, 2025 for the season premiere. James Gunn confirmed on social media Tuesday that Krypto the Superdog will feature in his upcoming "Superman" film. The announcement was made in celebration of Adopt a Shelter Dog Month this October. Sony has set a release date for its upcoming Until Dawn video game adaptation film of April 25th, 2025. Until Dawn is directed by David F. Sandberg and was written by Gary Dauberman.

In a recent essay, critic Isabel Stevens writes: “There is much discussion of childishness—popular cinema is often described as ‘infantilized'—but how often do we consider what children want and need from films, and what they are watching and where (outside the usual narrow, artificial controversies about the dangers film poses to their innocent minds)? How are their critical faculties and understanding of cinema being nurtured, or not…?”  For this week's episode, Film Comment managing editor Clinton Krute invited Stevens, managing editor of Sight and Sound, and FC contributor Genevieve Yue—both parents as well as critics—to discuss what they watch with their own kids, and why they choose the films they do. Of course, the kids themselves also jump in, with Isabel's 6-year-old son Rai offering his (very positive) assessment of Star Wars, and Genevieve's daughter Harriet discussing her experience working with her mother on a program of experimental films for children at Light Industry in Brooklyn. Unfortunately, Clint's daughter Agnes was tied up with summer camp, so we'll all have to wait to hear why the dreamy visuals of Frozen II make it a better film than the original. Check out the show notes at filmcomment.com for links to the many articles and films discussed—recommended, of course, for all ages.

Yoo Hoo! Hello family! This week Jaime and Angee decided to therapeutically dive into the first of the Frozen series, as they believe this is an important foundation for the later discussion regarding Frozen II (which is the one they REALLY want to talk about!) Highlights from this episode include: Frozen is YET ANOTHER movie about PTSD and people's varying responses to trauma If you have a child with magical powers who accidentally hurts your other child during playtime, resulting in the other child's memory becoming erased and subsequently the “covering up” (shaming) of the magical child's unique gifts, please have a conversation with and guide your first child to avoid even more shame and isolation throughout their childhood! (basically, if you screw up in your reaction as a parent – which you will – just apologize and teach the right way!) Oaken might be the coolest (or warmest?) character in the entire movie It's okay to let your freak flag fly Don't marry someone you just met Olaf (and perhaps ALL snowmen?) are pure love and innocence Angee wants to marry Kristoff – rather, Jonathan Groff – despite his sexual orientation Thank you so much for listening and continuing to be a fan of the show! Then after talking about the big title changes of the week, Blake plays audio from the WWE financial call when Vince McMahon talked about Ronda Rousey and how injuries has caused the ratings and live event attendance to go down, and that set off Mark and Sal to a rant that has to be heard to be believed. After everyone was calm, they discussed the AEW Double or Nothing Rally and get instant reaction to the breaking news that Double or Nothing is already sold out. Finally the guys break down the WWE Elimination Chamber PPV, including the WWE Hemp Championship match (wait till you hear Mark's pick for this one), the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship (Fire & Desire?), issues with The Miz & Shane McMahon as tag team champions and more.

“The origin story feels pretty far away from where I am now,” says screenwriter Kelly Younger. “I started out in archeology. Truth be told, I wanted to be a Goonie,” he jokes. “I'm from a working class Irish family. My family went through a hard financial time. We actually lost our house when I was a kid.” “In The Goonies, the kids are about to lose their homes, but then they find this treasure map, fight criminals, there's pirate ships, but ultimately they find the treasure that is going to save the family home. That movie really hit me at a pretty important moment.” “Then, when Indiana Jones came out, I wanted to be an archeologist. That was always my interest and facisnation. Lost civilizations and treasures. The kind of magic surrounding those kinds of stories. I was also a bit of a theater kid in middle school and high school. When it came time for school, I studied English Literature and the Classics.” Eventually, it became obvious that Younger was making career choices based on movies. “Ultimately, I moved to Ireland and studied literature, drama, folk tales, mythology, and fairy tales. I started out as a student of storytelling, but then my theater background kicked in and I started writing plays—mostly because I was broke. I wrote a play and won 1,000 pounds and got involved in the Dublin Theater Festival.” Eventually, this lead the screenwriter to Disney Animation where he worked as part of the “Story Trust,” providing feedback and advice for Moana, Cars 3, Coco, Incredibles 2, Ralph Breaks the Internet, Toy Story 4, Frozen II, Onward, Aladdin, and Raya and the Last Dragon. As a screenwriter, Younger has credits on Muppets Now, Muppets Haunted Mansion, and the new Eddie Murphy comedy Candy Cane Lane. The story follows a man who is determined to win the neighborhood's annual Christmas decorating contest until he makes a pact with an Elf who cast a spell on him which brings the 12 days of Christmas to life, and wrecks havoc on the town.

fWotD Episode 2393: Frozen II Welcome to featured Wiki of the Day where we read the summary of the featured Wikipedia article every day.The featured article for Thursday, 23 November 2023 is Frozen II.Frozen 2 (stylized as Frozen II) is a 2019 American animated musical fantasy film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures as the sequel to Frozen (2013). Produced by Peter Del Vecho, the film was directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee from a screenplay by Lee. The directors co-wrote the story with Marc Smith, Kristen Anderson-Lopez, and Robert Lopez. It stars the voices of Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Josh Gad, and Jonathan Groff. Set three years after the first film, Frozen II follows sisters Anna and Elsa, and their companions Kristoff, Sven, and Olaf as they travel to an enchanted forest to unravel the origin of Elsa's magical power. It explores the themes of colonialism and advocating reparation.Frozen II was greenlit in March 2015 after a company debate about whether it would be perceived as inferior to the original. It used more-complex, enhanced animation technology than Frozen, and was an interdepartmental collaboration. Anderson-Lopez and Lopez returned as the film's songwriters, and Christophe Beck again composed the score. The film was translated into 46 languages and was accompanied by Into the Unknown: Making Frozen II, a documentary series.Frozen II premiered in Hollywood, Los Angeles, on November 7, 2019, and was released in the United States on November 22. The film received generally positive reviews from critics and grossed $1.450 billion worldwide, finishing its theatrical run as the third-highest-grossing film of 2019, the tenth-highest-grossing film of all time, and the second-highest-grossing animated film of all time. It also held the title of the highest-grossing worldwide opening of all time for an animated film for three years. Frozen II received a nomination for Best Original Song at the 92nd Academy Awards, among numerous other accolades. Two sequels are in development. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:34 UTC on Thursday, 23 November 2023.For the full current version of the article, see Frozen II on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm Emma Neural.

Brad and Jake tackle, but Brad hasn't seen any movies from 1943, so he recommends the acclaimed The Life & Times of Colonel Blimp. This unconventional epic spanning the Second Boer War and both World Wars was helmed by the Archers (Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger), and starred Roger Livesey, Anton Walbrook, and Deborah Kerr in knockout performances. Jake, with little in his 1943 arsenal, asked Brad to watch Disney's Saludos Amigos. But since it's more of a tourism ad than it is a movie, Brad took the opportunity to rank all 61 Disney Animated Features released at the time of this recording, from Snow White to Strange World. Other movies mentioned in this episode: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937), Pinocchio (1940), Fantasia (1940), Dumbo (1941), Bambi (1942), The Three Caballeros (1944), Make Mine Music (1946), Fun and Fancy Free (1947), Melody Time (1948), The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad (1949), Cinderella (1950), Alice in Wonderland (1951), Peter Pan (1953), Lady and the Tramp (1955), Sleeping Beauty (1959), One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961), The Sword in the Stone (1963), The Jungle Book (1967), The Aristocats (1970), Robin Hood (1973), The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (1977), The Rescuers (1977), The Fox and the Hound (1981), The Secret of NIMH (1982), The Black Cauldron (1985), The Great Mouse Detective (1986), Oliver & Company (1988), All Dogs Go to Heaven (1989), The Little Mermaid (1989), The Rescuers Down Under (1990), Rock-a-doodle (1991), Beauty and the Beast (1991), Aladdin (1992), The Lion King (1994), Pocahontas (1995), The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996), Hercules (1997), Mulan (1998), Tarzan (1999), Fantasia 2000 (1999), Dinosaur (2000), The Emperor's New Groove (2000), Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001), Lilo & Stitch (2002), Treasure Planet (2002), Brother Bear (2003),Home on the Range (2004), Chicken Little (2005), Meet the Robinsons (2007), Bolt (2008), The Princess and the Frog (2009), Tangled (2010), Winnie the Pooh (2011), Wreck it Ralph (2012), Frozen (2013), Big Hero Six (2014), Zootopia (2016), Moana (2016), Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018), Frozen II (2019), Raya and the Last Dragon (2021), Encanto (2021), Strange World (2022)

We don't like to brag or anything, but the people behind Madness Madness have accomplished some pretty incredible feats of combat prowess, to the point where several hit movies have been based on our exploits: Avatar, Avengers: Endgame, Avatar: The Way of Water, Titanic, Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens, Avengers: Infinity War, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Jurassic World, The Lion King, The Avengers, Furious 7, Top Gun: Maverick, Frozen II, and of course Barbie. That's more than $27 billion at the box office just from the ones we can name off the tops of our heads, so honestly we've got nothing to learn from Frank Dux, a fight choreographer and semi-professional liar whose “life story,” the 1988 Jean-Claude Van Damme breakout “Bloodsport,” pulled in a mere puff of dust to the tune of $11.8 million worldwide, which I don't even think is enough money to wipe your ass with these days.Nonetheless we'll hear about this valor-stealing boomer schmuck, then imagine him dropped into Cassadaga, Florida (formerly New York), the fortune-telling capital of the world, mouthing off to a series of increasingly irritable palm readers until the ghost of Patrick Swayze manifests and Road House roundhouses him so hard he lands in a different ZIP code from his medals of honor, which turn out to be made of cardboard and cellophane anyway. For this week's Nose, the straightness is the difficulty of the lack of a bend. Last week, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled against the Andy Warhol Foundation, saying that Warhol could not use a photographer's portrait of Prince as the basis of his own image of Prince. In her dissent, Justice Elena Kagan writes that the ruling, “will impede new art and music and literature. It will thwart the expression of new ideas and the attainment of new knowledge. It will make our world poorer.” And: Jury Duty is “a documentary-style comedy series that chronicles the inner workings of an American jury trial through the eyes of one particular juror.” The catch is that that one particular juror doesn't know that everyone else involved is an actor, and the whole trial is fake. The traditional folklore and animistic beliefs of the Sámi, the Indigenous nomadic peoples of northern Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Russia, are under-studied and their cultural significance rarely acknowledged, even in the Scandinavian countries where Sámi traditions have intermingled with mainstream ones. The spread of Christianity and the influence of Christian missionaries in the Scandinavian north have especially distorted and shaped the reception and transmission of Sámi religious beliefs and practices in the modern era. The traditional Sámi religion recently gained widespread attention and reconsideration from a somewhat unexpected source, however, thanks to the incorporation of elements of Sámi folklore in Walt Disney Animation Studios' Frozen movie series. In this episode, artist and folklorist Niina Niskanen joins me to discuss her research into Sámi religious systems, folklore and oral culture, the cultural impacts of Sámi beliefs on mainstream Scandinavian society, how Sámi folklore traditions are represented in mass media, and how pop culture artifacts like Disney's Frozen have prompted a resurgence of interest in Sámi folklore and introduced Sámi culture to a new audience. This episode is part two of a two-part series looking at the Sámi in Disney's Frozen movies; part one, focusing on the making of Frozen II, can be listened to here. Prophecy Radio episode #63 takes a look back on the last year to reminisce about all the announcements we witnessed and all we've accomplished in 2022! We also talk about the most recent news in the Riordanverse, including the livestream and the winner of our art giveaway, as well as reread and discuss Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian chapter 17. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:01:45) Thank you to everyone who tuned into the Percy Jackson for Good Winter Solstice Fundraiser! We let you know what kind of content to expect from us in the coming weeks. Shoutout to @JessycaJill, who won our art giveaway, and to @Hellredsky, for working with us on that! Graci Kim's tweet from the other day was bittersweet, and we take a moment to recognize all she's accomplished. Read Riordan also gave us some tips for how to throw a Camp Half-Blood-themed holiday party. End of the year round-up and reflection (00:10:26) Once again we really love that we switched over to one chapter an episode. We're very proud of our episode titles, but which ones are our favorites? What's the most interesting thing we learned in our pursuit of increasing our knowledge of mythology? Our memories are so bad, but we did think of a couple fun facts we enjoyed learning. And it's not just Greek mythology that fascinated us! The books Karen was talking about were Skin of the Sea and Soul of the Deep by Natasha Bowen. It's so hard to pick a favorite interview since everyone has been lovely, and we managed to talk about pretty much all of them. In particular, make sure you go back and listen to our chat with Roseanne A. Brown and Roshani Chokshi but also Daniel José Older. There are so many talented people in the Percy Jackson fandom, but we have to shout-out a couple of our favorite artists we've discovered this year. There's definitely been an Annabeth Chase art renaissance, and we are so here for it. All of the Sun and the Star artwork has been incredible, but a special shout-out to @AlessiaTrunfio (Kristen's choice picks: here and here). Obviously Sarah (@Hellredsky) is one of our favorites, and Soia also has a special place in our hearts. And how could we forget about @Velinxi. Were you as surprised by the length of our longest episode as we were? What about our shortest episode? Did we ever get under an hour? We got a lot of big announcements this year, but which ones stick out in our minds the most? It's so hard to concentrate when there's so much awesome Percy Jackson news in the world. Chalice of the Gods was a really shocking announcement, and we're still recovering. Surprise, surprise, we had a lot to talk about this episode. Percy Jackson and the Olympians is truly the gift that keeps on giving. Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian (00:54:21) We're here to talk about The Last Olympian chapter 17. We're coming up on the end of this book pretty quickly!! We don't want to talk about Silena dying OR the fact that she was the traitor, but we have to. This was a great twist to the book, and it would've been hard to guess. Are we upset with Silena for being the traitor? CLARISSE DRAKON-SLAYER, FIRST OF HER NAME. The Blessing of Ares is super interesting, especially because it makes Clarisse momentarily invulnerable. Who does Percy summon with Mrs. O'Leary? Okay, why was Leneus' death so sad??? Aryan is going to be so great as Grover. We can see it so clearly. That elevator ride was a beautiful full circle moment. Is the Empire State Building guard mortal? We have another Will Solace sighting! How do we feel about Annabeth's confession that she no longer thinks Luke can be saved? Okay, hear us out: Rachel is Jacob. Percy is Bella. Mount Olympus is Renesmee. It would've been nice to see a conversation between Annabeth and Rachel after this moment. The moment at the hearth is what the sand dollar scene should've been like! Thank goodness Poseidon decided to listen to Percy. Kronos is near! Feedback (01:38:09) Daphne Olive totally agrees with us that Frozen II is the best Frozen. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 64, which will take a look ahead at everything coming in 2023! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Each episode, our Prophecy Radio hosts and their guests will keep you up to date on the latest information coming out of Camp Half-Blood, including upcoming books and adaptation news, discuss a topic of choice, and do a chapter by chapter reread of the Percy Jackson series. It's curious that FROZEN II, the sequel to a cultural juggernaut of a Disney movie, doesn't seem to have had the same resonance or impact. Could it be that, in contrast with the first film's simple-yet-largely-effective story, this one is convoluted at worst and overly ambitious at best? Could it be the global pandemic that struck mere months after this movie's release? Impossible to say, really, but our hosts sure do have a lot to say about this movie.

This episode features lots of talk about practical effects vs. current CGI trends, how good story-telling on film in a sword-and-sandals romp like Conan makes any lack of realism totally work, and an understanding that while more and more movies get made every year, the bar is very high thanks to the incredible legacy left before us! We drink a lot, too. 55 buzzes! That's a record. That means Mark holds the #1 and #2 spots of most-buzzed episodes on our show. He's gotta come back for Frozen II!
