Blending good humour and meaningful insight on rugby league, going beyond the statistics to talk about the intangibles and the controversial. We aren’t part of the NRL fraternity, nor are we looking to join it. We can and will discuss things about players, clubs and issues affecting our great game of rugby league that other news sources and so called experts won't touch.
There were (almost) some major upsets in Round 19, but ultimately the Cowboys and Broncos fell short, while the Storm and Panthers roll on at the pinnacle of the league. The Raiders managed to hold on against the Eels in one of the best matches this season. Defence was the showpiece of the evening, producing the first 0-0 halftime scoreline in almost 3 seasons, while some controversial calls both helped and hindered the Eels in the match. In Round 20, we've finally got the match we've all been waiting for - the likely GRAND FINAL PREVIEW in the Melbourne Storm v Penrith Panthers. Meanwhile, the Eels and Roosters fight for a top four berth and the Raiders and Knights for a top eight spot! WERE THE BRONCOS ROBBED? OR WAS IT JUST DESSERTS FOR AN ABYSMAL SECOND HALF SHOWING
Round 17 turned in some surprise contests! Of course it would, right after we spent 40 minutes blasting the NRL gamemakers for the trite it had become and the weekly blowouts
Are we really still talking about these blow outs? Sadly, yes. If you're anything like us, you've always lived and breathed footy. Until recently, you might have even watched every single game, even those you didn't have a particular stake in - just for the pure spectacle of speed, aggression and skill. But the way things have gone this year - it's almost become a farce. We've found it harder and harder to get excited for the games, with so many of the results seemingly written in stone even before a ball has been kicked. So this week, we're tee-ing off on V'Landysball. We don't even have any specific game times to list this week, as our theme of the diminishing quality of rugby league simply carried us from game to game, where it was example after example of how dire things have become. LISTEN TO THE EP & LET US KNOW YOUR THOUGHTS - ARE YOU LOSING INTEREST IN SEASON 2021? This episode also includes an analysis of the teams announced for Game III of the State of Origin Series (aka the dead rubber). LET THE AUTOPSY BEGIN
THE CAMEL'S BACK HAS BEEN WELL AND TRULY BROKEN In a whirlwind week in the NRL media, the Broncos are cleaning house. It began before a ball was even kicked in Round 15, with the 9 Commentary Team revealing Tevita Pangai Junior had been instructed to start looking around the league for other options, despite another 1-2 years remaining on his contract. Now they've followed suit with the sackings of Performance & Recruitment Personnel, and the signing of big name execs like Ben Ikin. We've also got our Round Reviews as always, covering topics like the rediscovery of the Panthers mojo, underperforming Raiders & Titans outfits and more. Plus, we've got the first of a two part ORIGIN GAME 2 PREVIEW, including the team announcements with surprise selections like 7 game rookie Reece Walsh! RD 15 REVIEWS
TIME FOR ANOTHER EPISODE LADIES & GENTLEMEN. IN THIS INSTALMENT, WE'VE GOT SOME ROUND 15 PREVIEWS FOR YA It wasn't long ago we were marvelling at what seemed to be an unbeatable team in the Penrith Panthers, but thanks to the decimation of their team through ORIGIN, they've lost two on the trot and Storm and Sea Eagles are rising fast as threats for premiership tilt. Will the Pennies bounce back this week facing off against the Chooks? Can the Raiders follow up their first decent performance in a long time with another one against the hapless Dragons? And how the fuck is Isaiah Papali'i still playing footy this week? All this and more here
Origin Game 1 has come and gone - with the severe depression or exhilaration that followed depending on where your allegiances lay
THE FOOTY GODS HATE THIS PODCAST!

In this episode, we've got the final two teams in our 2021 season previews series - and we've saved the best for last. We discuss the Melbourne Storm and the Penrith Panthers, and then we follow up our discussion in the last episode on the new rules to be featured in the 2021 NRL Season by spending some time proposing a few rules of our own that we'd personally love to see trialed in our game, the greatest game on Earth. This episode's got some sizzle to go with the steak, including: ❓ how did the Penrith Panthers manage to stumble so badly at the final hurdle - failing to score a try for the first 51 minutes on the game's biggest stage ❓ will a Grant & Munster combination gel from the get go in 2021 or will the extra weight on Mad Dog Munny's shoulders hinder the Storm's chances of going back to back ❓ could an attacking kick tackle restart or a right of response in extra time be just the ticket to bring the excitement back in areas where it's started to get a little stale Team Segment Start Times: Storm - 1:10 Panthers - 26:00 Proposed Rules - 49:00 Make sure you hit SUBSCRIBE or NOTIFY to stay up to date when we post new episodes, or follow us on Facebook or Instagram. In this episode, we preview the 2021 seasons of last years 4th and 3rd place finishers in the regular season - the Sydney Roosters and the Parramatta Eels. We also discuss the new rules of our game at length, including our thoughts on the new rules we saw in 2020 and the many continuances of those that are being implemented in 2021. ❓ With the Sydney Roosters holding back on recruitment and banking on their current stars - can a few of their ageing stars and leaders stay healthy and, more importantly, keep pace with the young talent coming into the NRL? ❓ Can Mitchell Moses step up in 2021 and share some of the load being ably carried by King Gutho? ❓ Will the new rule where every try is reviewed by the Bunker be enough to eliminate the major gaffs we've seen over the past few seasons? In this episode, we continue our Season Previews with the New Zealand Warriors & Gold Coast Titans. We also give our take on Cameron Smith aka The Accountant aka "The Goat" - will he or won't he play? We're not even sure if the man himself knows - but we list the For and Against in the case of Cameron Smith @ the Gold Coast Titans. Some of the topics we found ourselves divided upon in this episode include:
In this episode, we're done with our life stories and the introductory crap and rip straight into four more season previews. This time around it's the Cowboys, Sea Eagles, Dragons & Tigers. We find ourselves wondering:
In this episode of Rippin' In | An NRL Unfiltered Podcast with Spencer & Alex, we say g'day for the very first time. We introduce ourselves and what this podcast is all about, before tearing straight into our first two season previews for the 2021 NRL Season - the Brisbane Broncos & Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs. In the Broncos segment, we discuss how the bloody hell they can recover from an abysmal 2020 (or if they can recover at all) and their players under fire. On the Bulldogs, we cover their big recruitment drive and whether or not we see these players (and coach) as the solution to what has been so very broken for the past few years.
