This week I sat down with George Burgess, a rugby league legend who won an NRL Premiership with the South Sydney Rabbitohs and represented England on the international stage. George is a good mate who I just kept running into everywhere, so we finally sat down for a proper chat, and I'm so glad we did. This one goes well beyond the footy.George opens up about losing his dad to Motor Neurone Disease at fifteen, and how that shaped the path that followed. It was Russell Crowe, part-owner of the Rabbitohs, who brought the Burgess family out to play for Souths, and George shares what that opportunity meant for him and his brothers, Sam, Tom and Luke, who he went on to play alongside in the NRL.We also get into a side of George a lot of people don't know. He has always loved acting, and since hanging up the boots he has carved out a serious career on screen, with roles in Land of Bad, Spartacus: House of Ashur, and the upcoming Lionsgate feature Beast in Me.This is a chat about grief, reinvention, brotherhood and backing yourself to start again. George is the real deal and I loved this one.In this episode we cover:Winning an NRL Premiership with the South Sydney RabbitohsLosing his dad to Motor Neurone Disease at fifteen and how it shaped himHow Russell Crowe brought the family to SouthsPlaying alongside his brothers Sam, Tom and Luke in the NRLHis lifelong love of actingLanding roles in Land of Bad, Spartacus: House of Ashur and Beast in MeWhat it takes to reinvent yourself after sportGrief, brotherhood and starting a new chapterFollow GeorgeInstagram https://www.instagram.com/george.burgess2.0/?hl=enConnect with Cooper and TGHF1% Good Club Book (use code PODCAST for 25% off) https://www.thegoodhumanfactory.com/products/1-good-club-bookInstagram https://www.instagram.com/cooperchapman/TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@cooperchapman_LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/cooper-chapman-08a278151/Workshop and Speaking Enquiries https://form.typeform.com/to/DSPSnvEHThe Good Human Factory Instagram https://www.instagram.com/thegoodhumanfactory/The Good Human Factory https://www.thegoodhumanfactory.comTHE GOOD HUMAN FACTORY™️ 2020 Hosted on Acast. Send us Fan MailIn Episode 153 of the Joint Dynamics Podcast, host Andrew Cox | Joint Dynamics dives deep into the high-stakes world of elite performance nutrition with Eliza Freney, the powerhouse behind The Rugby Dietitian. If you've ever viewed nutrition as an "add-on" to training, Eliza is here to shift your perspective: in the world of professional collision sports, nutrition isn't optional - it is infrastructure. With a resume that reads like a "who's who" of international sport - including roles as the Head of Performance Nutrition for Rugby Australia and the Wallabies, and current consultancy for the NRL's South Sydney Rabbitohs and New Zealand Basketball - Eliza brings a level of scientific rigor that is rarely seen outside of elite environments. We explore the physiological nuances of fueling different roles on the pitch, from the explosive power needs of a front-rower to the high-speed endurance requirements of a winger.A significant portion of today's conversation focuses on Eliza's cutting-edge research into Omega-3 fatty acids (DHA and EPA). We move beyond simple "heart health" to discuss the emerging and vital role these lipids play in concussion risk mitigation and cognitive recovery for athletes facing repetitive sub-concussive events. Whether you are a weekend warrior, a parent of a rising teenage star, or an elite professional, Eliza's insights into the "nutrition mindset" will change how you view your next meal.We also take a moment to acknowledge that rugby is truly in Eliza's DNA; while her father, Michael Freney, famously wore the gold jersey for the Wallabies, Eliza is the one now ensuring the modern era of players actually has the fuel to finish the full 80 minutes—perhaps the most important "assist" in the family history!*JD podcast show sponsor is Muvitality Medicinal Mushrooms for modern day health and wellness | Mu …Go to muvitality.com and use the code JD10 to receive a 10% discount on your purchase of Mu Functional mushrooms such as Lions Mane, Cordyceps, Chaga, Reishi, and Turkey tail functional mushroomsEnjoyHere are some useful links for this podcastIG @therugbydietition Relevant episodesEpisode 145 - All Blacks Secrets: Dr. Nic Gill on Building Rugby's Greatest Dynasty - https://podcasts.apple.com/hk/podcast/episode-145-all-blacks-secrets-dr-nic-gill-on-building/id1527374894?i=1000747675984Episode 148 - Controversial or Just Honest? Danny Weidler & Adam Pengilly are back for another episode of Triple M NRL's The Journos! Led by Charlie White the boys sink their teeth into more drama in Brisbane! Ben Te'o, assistant coach shockingly exited the club after alleged issues with his superior Michael Maguire. Though, Danny Weidler reveals exactly what went down after his chats with the Broncos and disputes the information that's been revealed so far. The drama in Brisbane though hasn't overshadowed Daly Cherry-Evans return to Brookvale Oval, but there are more storylines ahead of Sydney Roosters trip to Manly Sea Eagles. A premiership contender is fading, a head coach is under the pump, there is drama engulfing both the Eastern and Northern Beaches! And another headache for the Roosters is from their noisy neighbours South Sydney Rabbitohs who can now officially call Sydney Football Stadium home! And the St George Illawarra Dragons are under the pump as they still sit winless to start the season. An interesting theory is floated that may become a reality for the Saints. The boys sit down with Nicholas Pappas AM – a proud Cazzie, and the man who helped lead the fight to reinstate the South Sydney Rabbitohs after they were controversially expelled from the National Rugby League. Taking on Rupert Murdoch, News Limited, and the NRL establishment, Nick was at the centre of one of the biggest legal and sporting battles in Australian history for which many thought (wrongly) there was no hope. From his incredible Castellorizian roots and history, to the courtroom showdown that reshaped his life, the game of Rugby League, and the Rabbitohs, Nick reflects on leadership, loyalty, resilience and what it takes to stand firm when the stakes couldn't be higher. This episode explores what high performance really looks like inside two of the most demanding professional sporting environments in the world. Richard Graves is joined by Brendan Fahrner, formerly Head of Sports Science at the South Sydney Rabbitohs, and previously a long-serving performance staff member at Richmond Football Club during one of the most successful periods in AFL history. Across a career spanning AFL and NRL, Brendan has worked inside premiership-winning programs, navigated the evolution of GPS and performance analytics, and seen firsthand how elite sport has shifted from data accumulation to data translation. In this conversation, he strips back the noise around technology and shares why soft skills, trust, and clarity of message ultimately drive performance outcomes. From simplifying GPS dashboards to building credibility with senior coaches, Brendan offers a grounded, practical perspective on what actually moves the needle in team sport. He also speaks candidly about practitioner burnout, self-worth, and why sustainability in high performance careers is just as important as physical robustness in athletes. This episode will resonate with sports scientists, S&C coaches, performance managers and aspiring practitioners looking to build impact in elite environments. In this episode you will learn Why high performance is more about relationships than periodisation How to build trust quickly when entering a new club environment The importance of simplifying data for coaches and athletes How to align performance metrics with a coach's game model Why most GPS reports contain too much irrelevant data How to identify the few variables that truly influence coach perception Practical strategies for athlete-centric monitoring in squad settings The crossover principles between AFL and NRL performance environments How to translate analytics into language players understand Why self-care and professional boundaries matter in elite sport The importance of valuing yourself as a practitioner About Brendan Fahrner Brendan Fahrner is a high performance practitioner with extensive experience in elite Australian sport. He began his career in the early adoption phase of GPS in the AFL, working with Richmond and later Geelong during a period of sustained premiership success. He spent the majority of his career at Richmond Football Club, contributing to three premiership titles and multiple finals campaigns. Most recently, Brendan worked in the NRL with the South Sydney Rabbitohs, applying performance principles across codes and leading athlete monitoring and sports science integration within rugby league. He has developed a strong reputation for simplifying complex performance data, building trust with athletes and coaches, and creating athlete-centred systems in high-pressure team environments. The TAB has released the official Premiership odds for the 2026 NRL season, and Dean "Bulldog" Ritchie is stunned by the disrespect shown to the South Sydney Rabbitohs. With a roster featuring Latrell Mitchell, Cam Murray, and Jack Wighton, are the Bunnies really $21 outsiders, or is this the bet of the year? In this market breakdown, we analyse every major price for 2026. Bulldog labels the St George Illawarra Dragons as the "bolter" for the Top 8, while delivering a brutal verdict on the Wests Tigers' chances of avoiding another wooden spoon. Plus, we debate the Parramatta Eels' drought-breaking chances under Jason Ryles, whether Manly is a trap at $34 following the DCE exit, and if the Brisbane Broncos deserve to be $5 favourites. We also look at the Warriors, Raiders, and the looming "Spoon Bowl" between the Knights and Titans.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

A gifted junior footy player, he quickly rose through the ranks, taking home plenty of awards and ultimately winning the NRL premiership in 2014. But he shocked the NRL community in 2021 when he left the Rabbitohs to head north and captain the Brisbane Broncos - leading them to victory in the 2025 NRL Grand Final. But his success hasn't been without its struggles. He's battled multiple injuries throughout his career, the latest sidelining him as the Broncos beat the Melbourne Storm to take home the 2025 Premiership. Now Adam is detailing the highs and lows of his career in his memoir 'On My Own Terms'. Adam spoke with Ant about his determination to get through injuries, how his young family inspires him and the power of teamwork.
