How should the hidden stories of history be told? In chapters? That's what we do at Stories Still to Tell; we frame history in a linear way, trying our best to make you feel like you're living in the era where the story is told. The content of this podca
So, uh, this is embarrassing. Sebastian and Greg wanted to make it a fun surprise what the episode would be for 1968, but we couldn't figure out how to make a title that was ambiguous, so...surprise! In this episode we set the foundation for one of the darkest moments in American history. Along the way we discuss cinema, the state of Sebastian's neighbors, and the painful steps the United States took towards progress. 1968, here we go! Special thanks to anyone who has rated and reviewed us. Your support means everything to me and Sebastian. If you haven't reviewed us and have read this far, why don't you go ahead and tell us what's up. Do you hate us, do you love us? "Love" is a strong word, and we would understand your hesitancy to say it back to us. But life is about taking risks, right? So why don't you jump in heart first.
Greg welcomes Sebastian back from his extended work trip with a variety of stories to help him catch up on what he's missed. Spoiler: we talk about Red Lobster A LOT. Additional note, Greg wanted to call this episode: "The Boyz-isode," but creative differences arose in the production process.
If you though 1967 was bad, just wait until you hear 1968! From earth-shattering assassinations to a shifting political landscape in the United States, there was more unrest than ever before. But at least we got two brothers offering their sexual services to a famous actor. In their hunt for treasure, things don't go well...
"Let's get to the bottom of this: did you stick googly eyes on a radioactive rock?" We finally get an answer to what happened at Falcon Lake
In episode two of our series on the Falcon Lake incident, we catch back up with Michalak in the immediate aftermath of his encounter. The story breaks, and his life is ruined. People call him a liar, but he thinks he can prove them wrong. He just needs to find the evidence first...
This week we dive into Canada's most infamous UFO encounter - the Falcon Lake incident. In May 1967, Stephen (Stefen) Michilak encountered two strange crafts, that ended in him getting burned on his chest. This week we talk about the encounter itself, and why this might be the most believable case of all time.
This is by far the worst year we've covered yet. We've got riots, the war in Vietnam, and a small town in Wisconsin seceding from the United States and declaring war on the country - yes, you read that right. We also have expanded our year coverage to explore some of the most intriguing true crime cases as they happened. Also, Creed won a Grammy in 2001 for Best Rock Song for their hit "With Arms Wide Open."
First off, sorry for the long absence! We explain it all in this episode. This week, we've got a short story episode where Greg describes how he paid money to solve a murder while telling the story of a missing man going all the way back to 1966. Hope you packed your swim trunks, cause we're going to Miami!
The underbelly of Great Bend, Kansas runs deep - and it's all controlled by the...square dance society? Sebastian and Greg do their best Hardy Boys impression and try to solve this case. FYI if another man is banging your wife, it's generally a bad sign. Also, maybe it's a good idea to have a pathologist that doesn't cite picture books as part of his "expertise." F E A R T H E P U M P E R P.S. Thx 4 all tha reviewz :* ^_^
1966 was super sick. Inflation? Through the roof. Civil rights? Yup, people are still getting murdered for it. Vietnam? How about a quarter of a million boys getting sent over? But hey, the Chicago Bulls were created and hippie culture started around now! This episode we'll talk about how hard it is for women to date, all the best true crime cases of the year - including spree killers and an unsolved murder, LSD, and the great state of Kansas before getting into our case for the year.
In 1965, a horror house that went beyond even the darkest of your imagination existed, and a group of neighborhood kids decide to participate. You are really going to hate us after this episode :( But we offer our sincerest Indiana Thank You in return for your listenership :) Special Indiana Thank You's to anyone who has reviewed us! It's the easiest way for us to get feedback on what you think and for us to grow. You're the best!
1965 ended up being a pretty important year. From the Civil Rights movement to a further escalating war in Vietnam, the political landscape in the United States was certainly tumultuous. Meanwhile, the Beatles continued to get knuckle deep into American pop culture, while the worst show of all time debuted on NBC. Seriously though, do submarines come up for air? Sebastian and Greg answer all your questions (while also coming up with a TV show idea of our own) as we break down the year 1965 before we get into the case next episode. Special thanks to anyone who has reviewed us! Seriously, it means more than you could imagine :) All the platforms we publish on heavily rely on the A L G O R I T H M overlords, and reviews are what feed it, so thank you again!
Welcome to 1964. The day after the Cleveland Browns win the NFL Championship, a brutal scene is discovered that leaves cops so startled they have to bring in the big city cops. There are creeps lurking in suburban Cleveland, but you already knew that didn't you? Just be sure to lock your doors...
It's another hard-hitting episode, as Sebastian and Greg discuss: poetry, skyjackings, is 9/11 funny, Beatlemania, a handful of murders, the best Christmas movies, and more before we get into the case for 1964!
Follow the money...find the gun
Sebastian is on vacation, and I promise he isn't locked in the chest freezer in my basement. But since he's gone, I decided to introduce a new series titled (Short) Stories Still to Tell - get it? The inaugural episode takes us down to Yerba Buena, Nuevo León, Mexico, where it gets crazy in the caves.
"I want them to see what they have done to Jack.” ... Skadoosh
This episode we try something new, and isolate the year review to it's own episode. 1963 was a hell of a year. There was the Civil Rights movement, mounting troubles in Vietnam, the Mona Lisa, an explosion in Indiana, the Nedlands Monster, and The Great Train Robbery. Did you guys know they make an e-cig that is built to look like an Apple Watch? What a time to be alive...
It's 1963 Part 4, and it's time to talk about the big hoss: John "Jack" Fitzgerald Kennedy. He grew up in his brother's shadow but carved a lane for himself the gold old-fashioned way: daddy's money. Also, have you ever gotten road head in a convertible that's on a boat? Yeah, didn't think so. Greg's Boston accent is on full display this week, so uh...be ready. You can now review us on Spotify! Just hit the little stars under our name. Seriously, a huge thank you to anyone who has rated us. You are the absolute best and we wish we could buy you a beer or a coffee! :)
It's the Holidays, so Sebastian and Greg have been pretty busy. Don't fret, they put together another subpar episode that will really close out the year nicely. In this episode, we discuss a series of academic and logistical topics including, but not limited to: gapes, cream cheese, the Scots, and I can't even remember what else. Most importantly though, we find Sebastian love in our brand new segment: The Tinder Dating Game.
Spontaneity and surprise are crucial in the longevity of any relationship, and Lee Harvey Oswald had both in spades. Don't you ever wish your significant other would attempt to assassinate a racist general? Ugh, I'm beginning to think romance is dead...
In this episode, we catch back up with Lee Harvey Oswald as he makes the great migration to the U.S.S.R. There, he learns a thing or two about communism, how to get laid, and writes some truly beautiful poetry. This is another story still to tell.
Big head means even bigger research. Sorry for the delay, LHO Part 2 COMING VERY SOON
1963 is known for like, one thing. One man with a big head was killed by another man with a big head...or was he? The big headed man that we will be talking about today is Lee Harvey Oswald. His story begins with a disruptive childhood and mommy issues. How did that lead to an assassination attempt on the president of the United States? Come find out as we kick off our 1963 series with Lee Harvey Oswald!
Listener beware, you're in for...a disappointing show. We've got murder, we've got the ghost of Robin Williams, we've got stories from our childhood, we've got witches, we've got acid, and so much more!
1962 the year of our lord. In this episode we catch up with Marilyn and her death. Was it all about the Kennedy's? Did a man have a pension for enemas? Communism? Moving pamphlets? I guess we'll have an answer soon...
Before we get to her death in 1962, we need to talk about who Marilyn was. She was smart, funny, well-liked, you name it. But there was a lot more going on behind the scenes. At her core, Marilyn wanted a family. Daughter of a schizophrenic, as a child she was passed from foster home to foster home. Her destructive childhood would be enough to shake the strongest of humans to their core, and set them on a path of misery; but Marilyn wanted more for herself, even if her childhood clouded her judgment. Some people want success out of spite, but it seemed that Marilyn wanted success simply for structure. Unfortunately, her past would haunt her daily, proving that we inherit the sins of our parents; culminating in her death at the age of 36.
1961 was a bit of a wake-up call for the United States, at least, those who chose to pay attention. In Louisiana though, something happened that brought so much attention to the town, the Supreme Court had to get involved...a couple of times. So, a man walks into a bank...and things don't go well. After that, we've got corrupt governors, prison diaries, and a completely different version of events from a different source.
1960 was a wild year. It kicked off a decade that most who remember it, do so fondly. But in the deep south of Texas, in April, a beauty queen and elementary school teacher goes missing over Easter weekend. Suspects range from boyfriends to exes, and even the church itself. Unfortunately, the trail goes cold....
