Having grown up in a Jewish home, author Dr. Samuel Blumenthal grew up going to Temple but didn't really know who God was for most of his life. In his 40's, Sam found Jesus. Sam wrote a book, Once Upon a Time, A Collection of Short Stories for Those Trying to Find Their Way Home. Stories have always been about us, a mirror in which we can see ourselves—our hopes and dreams, but also our greatest dilemmas. In his book, this retired clinical psychologist illustrates gospel truths on the themes of creation, fall, redemption, and restoration, all of which come into clearer focus through the lens of God's perfect love. https://samuelblumenthal.com/ ______________________________________________________________________________ Look for HOPE is Here: - at www.HOPEisHere.Today - on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/HOPEisHereToday - on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/hopeisherelex/ - on X (Twitter) - https://www.x.com/hopeisherelex - on TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@hopeisherelex - on YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtJ47I4w6atOHr7agGpOuvA Help us bring HOPE and encouragement to others: - by texting the word GIVE to 833-713-1591 - by visiting https://www.hopeisheretoday.org/donate #Lexington #Kentucky #christianradio #JesusRadio #Jesus #WJMM #GregHorn #GregJHorn #suicideprevention #KentuckyRadio #HOPEisHere #Hope #HopeinJesus #FoodForThoughtFriday #MondayMotivation #FridayFeeling #Motivation #Inspiration #cupofHope #FYP #ForYouPage #SuicideAwareness

They are arranged into three categories: tools, techniques, and transformational moments. Why would you want to hear about my second book? A brave new world or was it the long way home–for these men. And, A hideous nightmare seemed the culture of Williamson's world–to men who knew nothing of beauty. Survey Team and Souvenir by Philip K. Dick, that's next on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast, with at least one lost vintage sci-fi short story in every episode. We're seeing phenomenal growth all over the world and we cannot thank you enough for your support. The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast is being heard in more than 100 countries around the world. To say thank you we've got a special announcement that will be made when we go live on YouTube Thursday night at 8 PM in New York. We'll answer your questions and let you know what stories are already narrated and on the way, and some of those we are working on for future episodes. Let's kick off our double dose of Philip K. Dick with a story from the May 1954 issue of Fantastic Universe Magazine. Our story can be found on page 84. Survey Team by Philip K. Dick… Our second story was printed in the pages of Fantastic Universe Magazine five months after our previous story. The magazine had this to say about the now legendary author. “Philip Dick's characters have an exciting way of letting their logically-motivated self-interest lead them straight down the flaming road to ruin. We suspect that it is this distinctly individual approach which has made him one of the most admired and widely read science fiction writers of the past few years.” Let's turn to page 41 for Souvenir by Philip K. Dick… In two days on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast, Neither Peter Horn nor his wife ever expected that their child would be a small blue pyramid of another dimension! The Shape of Things by Ray Bradbury. This week's episode is an exploration of form, and why some stories are better contained in short story form rather than a novel. Guest Ghassan Zeineddine shares the evolution of his short story collection, Dearborn, as well as some of his process, including research and spending serious time with subjects who sometimes play roles in stories years down the road. Dearborn is part-celebration, part-astute observation of the Arab-American community in Dearborn, Michigan. This episode also contains a bit of history about how Dearborn became the US city with the highest concentration of Arabs and Arab Americans, and also lends insights into process, craft, and why the short story form is sometimes just right. Short Science Fiction Collections - Book 69 Title: Short Science Fiction Collections Overview: Thousands of short science fiction stories are available through our Short Science Fiction Collections series from classic science fiction authors Jules Verne, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, H. G. Wells, Mary Shelley, Edgar Allan Poe, Washington Irving, Robert Louis Stevenson, Hugo Gernsback, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Philip K. Dick, Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., Frank Herbert, Voltaire, Ray Bradbury, Isaac Asimov, and many other science fiction authors. Science fiction (sometimes shortened to sci-fi or SF where Forrest J Ackerman has been credited with first using the term "sci-fi" in about 1954) is a genre of speculative fiction that typically deals with imaginative and futuristic concepts such as advanced science and technology, space exploration, time travel, parallel universes, and extraterrestrial life. It has been called the "literature of ideas", and it often explores the potential consequences of scientific, social, and technological innovations. Science fiction can trace its roots back to ancient mythology, is related to fantasy, horror, and superhero fiction, and contains many subgenres. Its exact definition has long been disputed among authors, critics, scholars, and readers. Science fiction, in literature, film, television, and other media, has become popular and influential over much of the world, and it is also often said to inspire a "sense of wonder". Besides providing entertainment, it can also criticize present-day society and explore alternatives. The literary genre of science fiction is diverse, and its exact definition remains a contested question among both scholars and devotees. This lack of consensus is reflected in debates about the genre's history, particularly over determining its exact origins. Question of deeper origins aside, science fiction developed and boomed in the 20th century, as the deep integration of science and inventions into daily life encouraged a greater interest in literature that explores the relationship between technology, society, and the individual. Scholar Robert Scholes calls the history of science fiction "the history of humanity's changing attitudes toward space and time ... the history of our growing understanding of the universe and the position of our species in that universe." In recent decades, the genre has diversified and become firmly established as a major influence on global culture and thought. Submission guidelines can be found at http://www.TallTaleTV.com ---- About Tall Tale TV ---- Hi there! My name is Chris Herron and I'm an audiobook narrator. In 2015, I suffered from poor Type 1 diabetes control which lead me to become legally blind for almost a year. The doctors didn't give me much hope, predicting an 80% chance that I would never see again. But I refused to give up and changed my lifestyle drastically. Through sheer willpower (and an amazing eye surgeon) I beat the odds and regained my vision. During that difficult time, I couldn't read or write, which was devastating as they had always been a source of comfort for me since childhood. However, my wife took me to the local library where she read out the titles of audiobooks to me. I selected some of my favorite books, such as the Disc World series, Name of the Wind, Harry Potter, and more, and the audiobooks brought these stories to life in a way I had never experienced before. They helped me through the darkest period of my life and I fell in love with audiobooks. Once I regained my vision, I decided to pursue a career as an audiobook narrator instead of a writer. That's why I created Tall Tale TV, to support aspiring authors in the writing communities that I had grown to love before my ordeal. My goal was to help them promote their work by providing a promotional audio short story that showcases their writing skills to readers. They say the strongest form of advertising is word of mouth, so I offer a platform for readers to share these videos and help spread the word about these talented writers. Please consider sharing these stories with your friends and family to support these amazing authors. On this SELECTED SHORTS, host Meg Wolitzer presents three stories about moving out of familiar territory into new spaces and new understanding. In Meron Hadero's “The Thief's Tale,” read by Teagle F. Bougere, an émigré can't leave some of his old ways behind. “The Tallest Doll in New York City,” by Maria Dahvana Headley, imagines what happens when two iconic skyscrapers fall in love. It's read by Becca Blackwell. And summer trip yields unexpected treasures in Anne Tyler's “The Feather Behind the Rock,” read by Jane Curtin.
Along with special guest Longinus, the boys drink and review Sam Adams' Just the Haze, a no-alcohol IPA, then review some short stories by Kurt Vonnegut. "The Foster Portfolio" has an investment advisor who finds a client who appears to be poor, but secretly has enormous wealth, which he has no interest in. It examines one man's struggles with his moral failings. "All the King's Horses" is about a horrifying chess game played with real people's lives, including a Colonel's wife and two sons. It's a parable about parents' choices in sending their children off to war. "Tom Edison's Shaggy Dog" is clever and fun story about a dog who is smarter than Thomas Edison. "Welcome to the Monkey House" is a futuristic story about an over-populated planet where society takes extreme measures to reduce the number of people. But then Billy the Poet comes along and throws a wrench in the works. "Harrison Bergeron" is a brilliant anticipation of modern nonsense about "equity." The only way to make everyone equal is to make the smart people stupid, the pretty people ugly, and the talented just as dull as everyone else.

Short Science Fiction Collections - Book 67 Title: Short Science Fiction Collections Overview: Thousands of short science fiction stories are available through our Short Science Fiction Collections series from classic science fiction authors Jules Verne, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, H. Guest host Roxane Gay (no mean cook herself) presents three stories centered on food. In “Three Great Meals” the late New Yorker humor writer Donald Barthelme tells you how to prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner from a terrifying medley of fast food and low-end canned goods. The story is read by Nate Corddry. In "Simple Recipes," author Madeleine Thien weaves together evocative memories of traditional meals prepared by her father, with more complex images of a family in conflict. The reader is Cindy Cheung. And finally, a Roald Dahl classic, “Lamb to the Slaughter.” This tale of a model housewife's response to a marital crisis will make you view your Sunday roast in a whole new light. She's embodied by Catherine O'Hara.
What makes a brilliant short story? Are they better read as part of a collection or as a sharp shot on their own? How do you render fully formed characters in very few words? We're thrilled that this month, Arinze Ifeakandu joined us to talk about his short story collection God's Children Are Little Broken Things, a beautiful, artful collection of nine short stories about queer lives and love in Nigeria. One of the great pleasures of reading this book is savouring the art of the short story, but also seeing how they can be built into a cohesive collection, so it felt like the perfect opportunity to revisit the form.
